Coffee Program
The global coffee market is steadily increasing, which not only benefits small producers but mostly large scale coffee corporations. Coffee is one of the biggest sources of income for families in Guatemala. Unfortunately due to an unjust supply chain and most of the power falling on the hands of the purchasers, coffee producers sell their coffee beans at a price that makes it very challenging to generate a decent income. This is why De La Gente’s mission is to create equal economic opportunities for coffee growing communities.
With a growing demand for specialty coffee and transparency on behalf of the coffee industry, De la Gente has developed a business model that promotes a sustainable top- quality coffee production. Through our green and roasted coffee operations DLG works to create a more equitable and inclusive coffee industry that benefits all the stakeholders.

What´s New?
Ija’tz Honey processed - In 2020, DLG implemented unconventional coffee processing methods at the Ija’tz cooperative. Considering that being innovative in the industry is a key to emerging in other markets, our quality control coordinator Zach Latimore spent several days in the cooperative doing different experiments with the producers to obtain a Red Honey processed coffee. This process consists of removing the first layer of the bean (Known as the pulp) and then put it to dry in the patios for approximately eight days. Unlike the conventional wash process, neither fermentation nor washing is involved. We are so excited about the pretty satisfying result, with sweet flavor notes, red berries, a bit of wine, and a silky body.
