THE DYING SCOTSMAN a Murder Mystery
It’s the beginning of a new decade and as the 1930s loom ahead The Canon Crime Writers Club gather on-board one of the most luxurious locomotive in the country. Father Canon Boyle, the world-famous inventor of Dr Bedrock Homes, has called the meeting of prominent authors and a few extra guests for intrigue in the dining car of the hurtling train. Will one – or more – of the guests turn to murder?
The guests are (in alphabetical order): BRUCE ANDRE - You are an actor and play Dr Watkin, the side-kick to Bedrock Homes, on both radio and in the recent silent films with Tom Barrymore. You also sing. Costume suggestion: You are quite theatrical and like a bit of colour in an outfit. DAVID RICHARDS - You are a publisher and have been an honoury member of The Canon Crime Writers Club since its inception. You publish much of the work that comes out of the club. Costume suggestion: You are a bit of king-pin at the Club so something smart and a little extravagant. GERALDINE HUDSON - You are a literary Critic and an academic. Your recently deceased husband, James Hudson, was a member of The Canon and you have now been invited to fill his place at the table. Costume suggestion: Something classic but not too colourful, you are in mourning.
HARVEY WELLS – You are a writer, mostly known for science fiction, who is attempting a crime novel. Canon Boyle knows this and invited to you to the party to get ideas. Costume suggestion:You are keen to fit into the crowd so a suit and a bow-tie would be perfect. IRIS ACKROYD - You are an up-and-coming screenwriter for the new ‘talkies’ and are working with Canon Boyle on the script for the new Homes film. Costume suggestion: You are a fashionable young lady, glamorous but understated. SCARLET RICHARDS - You are the socialite daughter of David Richards and are attending the event with your father. Whilst it’s not the highlight of your social calendar you are pleased to be invited. Costume suggestion: You do love clothes and jewellery so something stylish with a bit of sparkle. TABITHA CHRISTINE - You are a Crime author, arguably more famous than Canon Boyle. You have been part of The Canon Crime Writers Club for many years. Costume suggestion: You are an elegant, if slightly quirky, dresser. A pearl necklace might be appropriate. TOM BARRYMORE - You are a highly-acclaimed actor of stage and screen. You have played Dr Bedrock Homes in two silent films and will be filming a new ‘talkie’ this year. Costume suggestion: As Hollywood royalty, you dress with style. As it is a party organised by Canon Boyle you may like to bring a pipe in case the host wants you to act a little.
