HISTORY

NATURE

Lizard Island was discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770 when his vessel, The Endeavour, ran aground on a nearby coral reef. The crew spent nearly two months on the island repairing the damaged ship. Cook made his mark on the island, naming “Cooks Passage”, “Cooks Look” summit and the adventurer named the island itself – Lizard Island after the resident monitor lizards.

Beautiful, natural and private. Lizard Island is located on the ‘World Heritage Listed’ Great Barrier Reef, in protected waters alive with an abundance of marine life, coral reefs and world renowned dive sites.

NEW LOOK Lizard Island underwent a $50 million refurbishment in 2015 with the new look best described as casual elegance. Palettes are neutral blending in with natural surroundings and creating an inside out ambience in guest rooms, bar and restaurant.
