NOTES ON SENIOR CURRICULUM

Boys independent day school three miles west of Morristown on Route 24. Conducted by the Benedictine monks of St. Mary’s Abbey. Accredited by Middle States, NJ Dept. of Education, member NAIS, recipient of CASE Exemplary School Award. 633 Students, 99 Faculty; 67% graduate degrees.

All seniors are required to take one full year course in Fine Arts. Advanced Placement and Advanced courses are weighted, as indicated above. Linear Algebra and Shakespeare are two of the most demanding courses offered to seniors and should be regarded as college-level courses.

CURRICULUM

520 graduated from 2017 through 2020 of whom 3 or more enrolled at:

5 year-long courses, trimester system. Required: 4 yrs. English; 4 yrs. math through PreCalculus; 3 yrs. history, 3 yrs. language (French, Spanish, Latin, Italian, and Arabic); 3 yrs. laboratory science; full year Fine Arts required for all seniors; one term Fine Arts and one term Computer Science required twice; 8 trimesters of Theology required. AP courses in all subjects. 95% have taken one or are taking at least one AP course; 50% have taken or are taking two or more. Typically, students are not permitted to take more than three AP courses per year without permission.

GRADING All grades are included in the GPA. Grade point averages are computed on assigned values of A+ = 4.33 or (97 - 100), A = 4.0 or (93 - 96), A- = 3.66 or (90 - 92), etc. Passing and college recommending is D = 0.66 or (65 - 69). Honors = 3.50 average. High Honors = 3.83 average. Highest Honors = 4.00 average. Advanced courses are weighted one-half additional value and Advanced Placement courses are weighted one whole additional value in determining GPA. Delbarton does not rank students.
