“Brotherhood

is a defining characteristic of St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School. Our monastic community, through prayer and service, has made brotherhood a Delbarton hallmark since the School's founding by the Benedictines of St. Mary’s Abbey in 1939. Here, all find the love of God and a passion to serve, in a community of teachers and learners committed to academic, spiritual, moral and personal excellence.

A commitment to excellence, faith and service. Since its founding in 1939, Delbarton School has maintained an unwavering commitment to excellence, including academics, athletics and service to the wider community. in partnership with the Benedictine monks of St. Mary's Abbey, Delbarton's faculty and staff provide an unparalleled Benedictine Catholic education. At Delbarton, we enroll boys and graduate young men of distinction, character and leadership.

Thanks to philanthropic support and the deep engagement of current parents, parents of graduates and alumni, Delbarton School and St. Mary’s Abbey have thrived. Over the last two decades we have: n Nearly doubled the School’s endowment from $18.5 million in 2004 to $27.5 million today.

n increased the number of supporters to the Delbarton Fund year-over-year. n Secured some of the highest alumni giving participation in our history –

the highest compared with similar high-performing schools nationally, with participation averaging around 40% each year since 2013.

n established a low faculty-to-student ratio of 7:1 and 50% of the

Delbarton faculty having tenures more than ten years, many of whom have served Delbarton’s students for over 20 years.

n Placed in the top

5% of students nationally in ACT and SAT performance.

n Recruited and educated new members of the monastic community and introduced them to Delbarton’s faculty – two new Benedictine educators joined the faculty in the 2018-19 academic year. 2

Building on our distinctive mission and success, Delbarton’s strategy for the future calls for significant and sustained investment in our students, faculty and monks, with an emphasis on growing our endowment and modernizing facilities to meet the growing and changing needs of our community. Specific priorities include...

Robust Financial Aid Delbarton is transformational for the boys who are able to enroll, and yet all too often the School remains beyond families' reach due to financial constraints.

Delbarton is committed to taking economics out of the admissions equation, through more financial aid enabled by philanthropy. Achieving this priority through targeted scholarship support, including endowment, will enable Delbarton to enroll the strongest possible class of young men and keep tuition increases at an absolute minimum for all families.

it's essential for us to move toward a sustainable financial aid model where a majority is funded through philanthropy. A successful campaign will help us compete for the strongest possible students, keep tuition costs stable and maintain the level of excellence that our community has every right to expect. 4

Talented Faculty

6

Faculty are critical to what makes Delbarton so special. Our teachers provide highly personalized support and model lives of ethical integrity and service to others. investing in the continuing professional development of our talented and committed teaching staff is a major priority that can be achieved best and most sustainably through endowment and philanthropy. The success of our campaign would enable investments in our faculty such as offering additional professional development opportunities, offering more support for postgraduate studies, and providing more faculty and staff living spaces on and near campus.

7

Dynamic Facilities Over the last ten years, Delbarton has made strategic investments in our academic and extracurricular facilities that have helped drive quality and advance our mission. Our priorities now call for targeted investments in new initiatives including the learning Commons and a modern Field House adjacent to the Cocoziello Field and Passarelli Track. These two facilities, more than any other, will drive academic achievement and athletic success in powerful ways.

Adding a learning Commons to the newly-renovated Trinity Hall is Delbarton’s most urgent academic priority. With Delbarton fully enrolled, students are currently using hallway benches without table surfaces for additional study and group meeting space. Building a modern research and collaborative work facility will enable us to improve our students’ academic achievement and community experience overall, while also preparing them for the more collaborative university and workplace environments they will encounter beyond Delbarton.

8

Delbarton will also set its sights on the addition of a Field House providing students and guests with a facility that matches the excellence of our athletic programs. initial drawings for the Field House include home and away locker rooms, a modern weight room with fitness facilities, fully accessible bathroom facilities for visitors, a concession stand and improved stadium seating.

The Monks inextricably linked together in spirit, mission and purpose, the Benedictines of St. Mary’s Abbey are central to Delbarton School’s vitality, as they continue to model their Benedictine charism of prayer, work, and community. The student experience of brotherhood is grounded in the teachings of St. Benedict and animated by the daily example of the monks. To sustain this vital part of our community, the monastery buildings require modernization to create a safer, more energy efficient living environment, and to make the Abbey Church fully accessible to all. Other critical needs include health care support for elderly and infirm Benedictines as well as resources for educating the young men who seek to join our community and engage in our mission of Benedictine Catholic education at Delbarton.

Our sons continue to benefit from the values instilled in them by the monks of St. Mary’s Abbey. We consider them an extended part of our family and we are honored to play a small role in sustaining this critical part of the Delbarton community.

Achieving the priorities highlighted requires significant philanthropy, focus and commitment. To help generate the required resources, St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School are moving ahead together with a special campaign entitled Brotherhood to reflect the defining characteristic of Delbarton and the Abbey. The Brotherhood campaign invites support from current parents, parents of graduates, alumni and friends.

A new protected walkway connects the Monastery with the Abbey Church.

A lounge with kitchen facilities adds an important communal space for the monks of St. Mary’s Abbey.

Modern residential suites are a long overdue improvement for the monks of St. Mary’s Abbey.
