THE CAMPAIGN FOR ST. MARY’S ABBEY & DELBARTON SCHOOL

“Brotherhood is a defining characteristic of St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School. Our monastic community, through prayer and service, has made brotherhood a Delbarton hallmark since the School’s founding by the Benedictines of St. Mary’s Abbey in 1939. Here, all find the love of God and a passion to serve, in a community of teachers and learners committed to academic, spiritual, moral and personal excellence.” FR. MICHAEL TIDD, O.S.B. HEADMASTER, DELBARTON SCHOOL

We offer much to all who become part of this community— and we thank all who are willing to give much.

A COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE, FAITH AND SERVICE

As a Benedictine Catholic college preparatory school for boys, we are more than a top high school. We live out a mission of forming young men who are motivated to reach their best intellectually, physically, spiritually and morally.

Building on our distinctive mission and success, Delbarton’s strategy for the future calls for significant and sustained investment in our students, faculty and monks, with an emphasis on building our endowment and modernizing facilities to meet the growing and changing needs of our community.

PRIORITIZING

ROBUST FINANCIAL AID Delbarton is transformational for the boys who are able to enroll, and yet all too often the School remains beyond families’ reach due to financial constraints. Delbarton is committed to taking economics out of the admissions equation through more financial aid enabled by philanthropy.

MAKING AN IMPACT We will achieve this priority through targeted scholarship support, including endowment— enabling Delbarton to enroll the strongest possible classes of young men and minimize tuition increases for all families.

“It’s essential for us to move toward a sustainable financial aid model where a majority is funded through philanthropy. A successful campaign will help us maintain the level of excellence that our community has every right to expect.” JIM ’82 AND JEANNE PETRUCCI P’10, ’25

PRIORITIZING

TALENTED FACULTY Faculty are critical to what makes Delbarton so special. Our teachers provide highly personalized support and model lives of ethical integrity and service to others. Investing in the continuing professional development of our talented and committed teaching staff is a major priority that can be achieved best and most sustainably through endowment and philanthropy.

MAKING AN IMPACT The success of our campaign would enable investments in our faculty such as additional professional development opportunities, increased support for post-graduate study, and more faculty and staff living spaces on and near campus.

PRIORITIZING

DYNAMIC FACILITIES Over the last 10 years, Delbarton has made strategic investments in our academic and extracurricular facilities that have furthered excellence and advanced our mission. Our priorities now call for targeted investments in new initiatives, including a Learning Commons addition to Trinity Hall, appropriately named St. Benedict Hall, and a modern field house adjacent to the Cocoziello Field and Passarelli Track. These two facilities, more than any other, will drive further academic achievement and athletic success in powerful ways.

OPENING DOORS St. Benedict Hall officially opened on April 13, 2021, dramatically expanding Delbarton’s library and guidance center. This modern research and collaborative work facility will enable us to improve our students’ academic achievement and community experience overall, while also preparing them for the more collaborative university and workplace environments they will encounter beyond Delbarton.

THE MONKS Inextricably linked together in spirit, mission and purpose, the Benedictines of St. Mary’s Abbey are central to Delbarton School’s vitality, as they continue to model their Benedictine charism of prayer, work and community. The student experience of brotherhood is grounded in the teachings of St. Benedict and animated by the daily example of the monks.

ABBEY ENDOWMENT The Benedictine community of St. Mary’s Abbey relies to a great extent on its endowment resources to fund the retirement and health care needs of its senior members. Enhancing the Abbey’s endowment will further secure the Abbey’s ability to meet present needs and provide the resources for the formation and education of new members of the monastic community.

MAKING AN IMPACT To sustain this vital part of our community, we must modernize the monastery buildings to create a safer, more energy-efficient living environment, and to make the Abbey Church fully accessible to all. Other critical needs include health care support for elderly and infirm Benedictines as well as resources for educating the young men who seek to join our community and engage in our mission of Benedictine Catholic education at Delbarton.

A new lounge with kitchen facilities adds an important communal space for the monks of St. Mary’s Abbey. A new protected walkway connects Vincent House to the Abbey Church. Modern residential suites are a long-overdue overdue improvement for the monks of St. Mary’s Abbey.

THE CAMPAIGN FOR ST. MARY’S ABBEY & DELBARTON SCHOOL $70 MILLION

To be successful, this comprehensive campaign requires a total investment of $70 million. This is an ambitious effort, including all annual support for both St. Mary’s Abbey and the Delbarton Fund over a period of years. This is an exciting and critical moment for our community, and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity thus far. With your additional support, we can make an impact on thousands of families, students and friends.
