All
YOU WILL THINK WITH ALL YOUR BEING.
YOU WILL STRIVE WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.
YOU WILL SERVE WITH ALL YOUR HEART.
YOU WILL LOVE WITH ALL YOUR SOUL.
YOU WILL ACT WITH ALL YOUR FAITH.
“You
send your sons to Delbarton because the promise that defines the school—the pursuit of excellence marked by the commitment to service—is the one you want to define their lives.”
When cut down, we grow back stronger.
WHEN FACED WITH CHALLENGE, WE COMMIT. WHEN NEEDED TO MAKE IT BETTER, WE ACT. WHEN ASKED FOR ONE MORE REP, WE ROLL.
Benedictine monks, to be exact. Smart, strong, spiritual men who know what it means to persevere and to never forget the higher purpose. For 1,500 years they have been guiding young men to strive for scholastic and spiritual excellence. You don’t have to be Catholic to attend—or to benefit.
WE PUT IN THE WORK.
We examine thought and ideas to their core. We converse, connect, express and apply with precision. We test and refine. We let our hearts be touched and our hands get dirty. We use the knowledge we gain to pursue the Good as we become men who succeed at the highest levels.
“DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD, BUT BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MINDS, SO THAT YOU MAY DISCERN WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD— WHAT IS GOOD AND ACCEPTABLE AND PERFECT.”
YOUR TASK
Build and program a robot with speechprocessing capabilities that can successfully interact with passersby.
You’ll work in a small collaborative team, with support from your teacher, who was previously an economist and entrepreneur. This will be your semester’s work for Coding and Design Through Robotics.

THE DELBARTON DIFFERENCE?
A dynamic blend of tradition and innovation that creates an inspiring college preparatory experience informed by faith and values.
Challenge yourself by developing a new product in the Delbarton Incubator, learning Arabic, earning Bloomberg Market Concepts certification in the Ryan Crane ’95 Business Center, collaborating on an engineering project in our STEM Makerspace, externing through DelEX, or seizing opportunities in other signature academic programs.
THERE IS NO “BACK ROW” AT DELBARTON.
In both the Middle School and Upper School, faculty members also serve as advisors, counselors and coaches. They will hold you to high standards in gaining both knowledge and judgment—and take the time to help you become your best.
You will work with teachers who have served in the military and the Peace Corps, managed global trading on Wall Street, sung amateur opera in the U.S. and Europe, played Big Ten football, lived all around the world, and more.
“Teaching is and has always been relational. Boys learn best if they can relate to the teacher and pick up on their enthusiasm for the subject.”
FACULTY MEMBER
WE LIVE COMMITTED.
We lead through service to others. We understand the deep power of connection and brotherhood. We welcome all. Undeterred by trials and without hesitation, we gladly give of ourselves. We become men who walk humbly in our achievement.
“NOW AS YOU EXCEL IN EVERYTHING—IN FAITH, IN SPEECH, IN KNOWLEDGE, IN UTMOST EAGERNESS, AND IN OUR LOVE FOR YOU—SO WE WANT YOU TO EXCEL ALSO IN THIS GENEROUS UNDERTAKING.”
Here, you belong. And your brothers will be with you all of the way.
YOUR COMMITMENT
Help local students after school with their homework this year.
You’ll head to Neighborhood House each week. Not for a grade or a service requirement, but because it’s a way you can give back. Are you in?
“I cannot overestimate the sense of unity and brotherhood I have felt in a little under a year and a half that I have been at Delbarton. Home games are electric, the plays are hyped up weeks in advance, and the academics are definitely challenging. Delbarton students unite with brotherhood every day both in and out of the classroom.”
UPPER SCHOOL STUDENT
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A DELBARTON GRADUATE?
It means having a network of lifelong friends and professionals. Sharing your advice and experience with new generations of students. Always being welcomed home to Delbarton.
Your parents will also become part of Delbarton. Don’t be surprised if they keep in touch with your friends’ families long after you graduate.
Your Delbarton teachers, coaches and mentors will ask you to give your all— courageously, honestly, respectfully, and with true commitment.
Competitive colleges and careers will ask you to serve and lead with integrity and humility.
You and your brothers will ask each other for strength and support throughout your entire lives.
WE SEEK TRUTH.
We seek justice. We live in the rhythm and peace of a connection with God. We are awed by beauty and not afraid to express how it takes shape within us. We become men who know ourselves because we know Him.
“WHATEVER IS TRUE, WHATEVER IS HONORABLE, WHATEVER IS JUST, WHATEVER IS PURE, WHATEVER IS PLEASING, WHATEVER IS COMMENDABLE, IF THERE IS ANY EXCELLENCE AND IF THERE IS ANYTHING WORTHY OF PRAISE, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS.”
4:8
Spirituality at Delbarton is as quiet as a prayer—and active in every way. It will call you to make a difference by protecting the environment, leading retreats and service programs, and supporting causes you care about.
It also finds expression in a thriving arts program. Advance to an intensive AP Art program, take music lessons, or join the Abbey Players—creativity is a gift to grow and celebrate.
LOVE OF GOD AND NEIGHBOR
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39)
DISCIPLINE
Self-discipline is essential to foster the common good and cultivate excellence, whether academic, athletic, artistic, moral or spiritual.
BENEDICTINE Values
SAYING “YES” TO DELBARTON MEANS EMBRACING THIS PLACE, OUR BELIEFS, OUR VALUES, OUR VERY WAY OF BEING. ALL HE CALLS US TO.
MORAL AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
All members should strive for virtue and for that love that casts out fear.
HOSPITALITY
“All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: ‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me’ (Matthew 25:35).”
(Rule of Benedict 53:1)
STEWARDSHIP
We have a moral duty to care for God’s creation and to use wisely the resources of this creation for the good of all human beings.
HUMILITY
Humility is about the acceptance of the truth about myself: I am not God; I am not the center of the universe. God must be at the center of all we do.
PRAYER AND WORSHIP
As a Benedictine school, we teach the value of silence and reflection as integral components of the whole person.
LISTENING
Listening “with the ear of the heart” is to be practiced by everyone—students, teachers and coaches.
COMMUNITY AND STABILITY
Everyone should have the sense of being a vital part of the community and that “here, we belong.”
OBEDIENCE
Everyone in a Benedictine school should experience the great gift of being listened to attentively and treated with the utmost respect.
WORK
Work sustains our livelihood, protects us from idleness, expresses human creativity, and helps achieve our purpose of growing in mind, body and spirit.
CONVERSATIO
“Conversatio” sums up in one word the whole set of values and practices that establish our school’s culture as Benedictine.
WE ARE STRONG.
With a strength that comes from sweat, resilience, and devotion—to a sport, to an ensemble, to growth in all ways, to higher values, to putting our brothers before ourselves. We become men who are fit, who are active, who know that excellence lies in far more than awards and accolades.
YOUR ENERGY
You’ll be rocking it, living in the moment, sweating under the lights. And it will feel good.
Being part of Delbarton’s rock band won’t be just something to put on your college resume. It will energize you, body and soul. Are you in?
“With so many clubs, sports, arts groups and afterschool activities, Delbarton is a place to try things that you normally wouldn’t. It is a place where being the smartest kid or liking school isn’t a negative.”
UPPER SCHOOL STUDENT
the meaning of the word “team.”
There’s something about the Delbarton flag. It represents a connection with this place and with each other that makes anything possible.
THE GREEN WAVE ISN’T JUST WHAT WE CALL OURSELVES.
IT REPRESENTS ALL WE ARE CALLED TO.
As a Benedictine community, we belong to an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices of our students, faculty and staff.
