Walk in the miners’ footsteps – hear their stories
Join us for the only mine tour in Western Canada that takes you into the original mine. This fully guided tour will take you in approximately 1,000 feet (300 metres) into the mine where you will see the process of how coal was mined and the life of an everyday miner of the 20th century. Be sure to dress warm though, for the temperature underground is 0 degrees Celsius. So make sure to have a extra layer. Our off-season hours are November through April, 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Pre-booked tours only, and group discounts are available. May and June, the mine is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm, and walk-ins are welcome. July and August the mine is open 10 am to 6 pm, seven days a week.

Alberta Pioneer Camp
Our winterized facilities are available for public bookings from September through June with great options for schools, churches, families and community groups. We have two distinct sites in the beautiful wilds of Alberta to meet your group’s needs. Pioneer Lodge, located 16 kilometres southwest of Sundre, overlooking the Red Deer River valley and the Rockies, can accommodate up to 108 people in cabins and guest rooms. Our Ranch site, located on Crimson Lake, 15 kilometres north of Rocky Mountain House, can accommodate up to 120 people in May and June and 80 people from September to April. Our sites are perfect for church retreats, youth getaways, business meetings, scout groups, and family gatherings. Both sites offer a great variety of programs, including horseback riding, archery, wall climbing, and leadership programming. We’ve welcomed many types and sizes of groups, such as outdoor education programs, school bands, youth retreats and family getaways.
