Arc Building Partners is employing Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) technology at 716 Health to remain closely aligned with schedule and budget expectations. VDC encompasses a plethora of tools that allows the team to mitigate risks early on, avoiding costly and timely rework in the field.

“With this technology, we have elevated conventional 3D MEP coordination to encompass the varying medical equipment. In addition, we incorporated 4D strategies by using a model within a progress tracking platform,” said Ciminelli II. “Our work at 716 Health is another step towards our quest to bring digital twin technology to construction.”

VDC Manager Ana Alcocer said the team collaborated closely with the architectural team at CannonDesign to ensure design intent.

“To date, we have laser scanned two portions of the structure to verify steel installation and account for any settlement after erection,” Alcocer added.

Additionally, VDC technology is being used to confirm core and shell instillations for upcoming TI’s, and modeling and coordinating Unistrut for medical equipment support in the X-ray rooms.

“The MRI room was coordinated to identify openings through the magnetic shielding, which were then integrated into the shop drawings of that scope before fabrication began,” Alcocer said. “We also added another module into Procore to provide the 3D coordination model so that that our field team could have immediate access to the modeling information as needed.”

To date, the core and shell will be completed shortly, followed by UBMD Ortho and General Surgery fit-outs in

May. Great Lakes Medical Imaging is scheduled for completion this fall, followed by GPPC and the ambulatory surgery space, which is slated for completion the first quarter of 2024.
