Message from the COO of GPCA

CArmen LemAy

in 2019 we had 235 projects and 163 member companies.

We are still working on increasing our social media presence currently with Facebook and instagram. With our new marketing committee in place, we hope to increase these posts and eventually get onto the linkedin and twitter platforms.

2019 was a difficult year with projects and memberships showing a decrease, and print requests continued to decline as well. We have struggled with getting attendance and sponsorship to our events, as well as seminars. the social committee has reviewed our sponsorship opportunities and removed/revised them to make these offerings a little more affordable.

We started reviewing our full member benefits and partnered with a few companies so that we could offer our members more. benefits for full memberships include:

• Mark’s 10 per cent off (cards are available to be picked up at the office)

• The Dunes Golf & Winter Club 10 per cent off in the pro shop and 15 per cent off in the masters lounge on food.

• Fountain Tire 10 per cent off

• Northern Metalic (see store staff for discount information)

• Visa Truck Rentals (see store staff for discount information)

We will have the member benefit cards available soon and will send out a notice as soon as they are ready.

We now have the ability to print in colour on anything from 8.5-by-11 to large-sized prints. We can do anything from your basic blueprint to large posters (i.e. garage sale signs).

advocacy has been a very big focus to the board of directors in 2019 and continuing into 2020. We met with local candidates during the election to express the concerns and needs of our local construction workers. after the ucP was elected, we met with minister Panda to discuss the hospital and payment issues, procurement process, prompt payment, and how to prevent future issues from happening. We also met with mla tracy allard regarding red tape reduction. our advocacy went on to include a meeting with the city of grande Prairie council and inspection services around inspections and consistency with inspections. We participated in the alberta energy efficiency Passive House conference and the chamber of commerce round table with local politicians and industry leaders. the executive then met with minister copping and attended an event regarding the long-term need of skilled trades in this region and alberta.

if there is anything you would like us to work on either at the local government level or that we need to take to the alberta construction association for the provincial level, please reach out to us, this is a large part of the benefits of being a member. -
