PARAM VIR CHAKRA This award is also known as “Wheel of the Ultimate Brave”, and the award is granted for "most conspicuous bravery in the presence of the enemy" As of January 2018, the medal has been awarded 21 times. Of the 21 awardees, 20 have been from the Indian Army and one has been from the Indian Air Force. The medal is a circular bronze disc 1.375 inches (34.9 mm) in diameter. ASHOK CHAKRA The Ashoka Chakra is a depiction of the dharmachakra represented with 24 spokes. MAHAVIR CHAKRA The Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) (literally great warrior medal) is the second highest military decoration in India after the Param Vir Chakra and is awarded for acts of conspicuous gallantry in the presence of the enemy, whether on land, at sea or in the air. VIR CHAKRA Vir Chakra is an Indian gallantry award presented for acts of bravery in the battlefield. SHAURYA CHAKRA The Shaurya Chakra is an Indian military decoration awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice while not engaged in direct action with the enemy. It may be awarded to civilians as well as military personnel, sometimes posthumously. It is third in order of precedence of peacetime gallantry awards and comes after the Ashoka Chakra and the Kirti Chakra R i b b o n : Green colour ribbon divided into four equal parts by three vertical lines.
