The Salvation Army Coventry City Corps R56 Roll Front (B158)

Many of the Salvation Army congregation gave a weekly amount towards new chairs whilst their Methodist friends made sure they had somewhere temporary to worship during the 20 months they were without premises. The £1.9 million for the new building was raised with donations from The Bradbury Trust, Salvation Army nationally as well as local donations and fundraising. Rosehill’s sample chairs were tried and chosen by the congregation and on 2nd July 2005, 300 members sang “Praise the Lord” at the opening ceremony. Guest of Honour was the army’s national chief secretary Lieutenant Colonel Victor Poke who said “it is a great privilege to be in a building which is not just bricks and mortar but a place where people can come and find their lives transformed.” The chosen chair was the Coronet roll-
front. The chair was 2” wider (an optional extra offered by Rosehill), also included was the elasticated book pocket for storage, a link lock device to keep the chairs linked in a straight line and a high specification fabric in accordance with fire regulations. A further 20 chairs without extras were ordered for the new café area. Rosehill Furniture Group are really pleased to work with the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army Preston City Corps Maxim Chair (A160)
Above: 150 Maxim chairs installed at The Salvation Army, Preston Date of Installation October 15th 2005
A Preston newspaper on 14th October 2003 reads:
Capt Malcom Martin, commanding officer of Preston’s Salvation Army said “We want to replace the church building to provide a building that is more user-friendly and allows us to better serve the community. It will be purpose built for the work we do and hopefully the community will take ownership of it. It will be a modern and attractive building and so will add to the regeneration of the area.”
The same Preston newspaper on 7th October 2005 reads:
The Mayor of Preston, Bhikhu Patel and Lt Col Keith Burridge of the Army’s national executive will be at the official opening of the Salvation Army’s new £2m base. Capt Malcom Martin, of the Preston branch said “We have been on Walker Street since 1924 and have been looking for a new base on and off for the past forty years, so we are delighted to finally be so close to getting into our new premises”. It has been purpose designed and built for the Salvation Army with more rooms of different sizes to allow us to cater for all kinds of different activities, better access for disabled people and parking for 33 vehicles.
On 18th July 2005 Capt Malcom Martin visited our new showroom and took some sample chairs to demonstrate to the congregation. They settled on the Maxim and 2000 series folding chair and in August ordered 150 Maxims and 56 folding chairs.
The chairs supplied by Rosehill for the "church" area of the building had to be modern, attractive and comfortable, yet also offer flexibility of use. The Maxim chairs look "permanent" when placed in the church setting, yet offer us the option of adjusting the seating format to suit different kinds of events, or even stacking them neatly to free the floor-space. The design blends in well with the modern and airy design of the auditorium and building overall. Customer Comment
