History

T

he Ciret tradition has grown from an invention reaching back for millennia.

Humans have always seen the need to beautify their homes and to do so good painting tools have always been essential. Up until 100 years ago approximately 90% of these tools consisted of paint brushes, which along with the hand axe, is one of the oldest tools known to man. Today decorating tools comprise a wide diversity of products, to which Ciret has made a significant contribution in developing.

In 1896, the decorative painters Brueckmann, Boysen and Weber started the "School of Painting for Decorative Wall Design" in Elberfeld (a part of Wuppertal, Germany). The first products they sold were copper stencils and so started a long tradition. In 1919 Wilhelm Greten took control of the business and saw its expansion into manufacturing with the setting up of a factory for paint brushes, rollers and additional painting tools. The company continued to grow over the next 80 years, with management of the company taken over by J.R. Rogusch (Wilhelm Greten’s sonin-law) in 1952 and then Horst Rogusch (Wilhelm Greten’s grandson) in 1976. In 2011 Ciret Holdings AG merged with Storch Holding GmbH to form Storch-Ciret Holding GmbH with its head office still in Wuppertal, where it all started over 115 years ago.

This merger has made us the leading expert for the painting and decorating tools market in Europe.

Ciret Limited was established in 1961 as Homekey Limited, initially supplying top quality brushes throughout the south of England. From its Portsmouth base, the business expanded to become an established supplier to decorators merchants, builders merchants and independent hardware stores throughout the UK and in 2005 moved to our present location in Havant, just outside Portsmouth. In this same year Homekey was acquired by the Ciret Group and was soon renamed Ciret Limited.

Already highly successful throughout Europe, 2014 sees Ciret launch its brands in the UK. stands for Coating Applicators and Preparation Products and offers a comprehensive range of products suitable for the professional decorator, contractor and DIYer.

Facilities Production Facilities We produce more than 50% of our entire product range in our own factories in Europe and Asia.

For our customers this means: • Consistent quality • Guaranteed supply • Fulfilment of special requests • Best possible purchase and sales prices through optimal global procurement of raw materials and finished products Our main facility in Pelhrimov, in the Czech Republic, has more than 400 employees and is one of Europe’s biggest factories for producing coating applicators and preparatory products. Production includes large and small paint rollers, seam rollers, roller handles, paint trays, paint grids and masking tapes.

More than 100 people are employed in Research and Development in Wuppertal, Germany. Production of foam rollers, flock rollers and special machines is carried out in Struth, Germany. Paint brush manufacturing and fabric rollers are produced in our two factories in Beijing, China, set up by the Ciret Group in 1995.

Wherever the manufacturing facility is the same principles and high standards developed by Ciret over the years are always demanded. Close monitoring of all production processes ensures a stable and controlled quality for all products we manufacture.

These same high standards are then demanded from our supply partners to ensure the same consistency of quality of every product we supply.

Logistics and Packaging Centres Ciret has logistics and packaging centres in the heart of Europe, with modern, automated logistics and packing centres in England, Germany, the Czech Republic and Latvia.

Additional warehouses in Belgium, France, Spain, Finland, Latvia, Romania and Russia ensure we can provide customers with their products quickly and reliably across Europe and beyond.

Paint rollers and refills were developed as recently as the 1980’s. Then in 2010 the EU directive on volatile organic compound content of painting materials (VOC2010), which addressed the issue of potentially cancer causing solvents took effect and had a significant impact on the development of the market. It brought about big changes in the make up of paint and in turn has lead to changes in the requirements of paint rollers.

As a leading manufacturer we have to follow these changes very closely in order to develop and continuously enhance our rollers and refills. We are always working on a variety of plushes and production technology which give the optimal performance with new paints.

A close relationship with the biggest paint and other coating material producers has been a key element of our development strategy for many years.

Different fabrics will give a very different performance with different paints, so when buying a refill decorators should always consider the importance of ease of use, coverage, finish and life then balance it against cost and the quality of paint they are using.

Fabrics Polyamide (Dualon) 100mm, 100mm Jumbo, 230mm, 250mm, 300mm & 380mm Designed for extra durability and long life on rough surfaces, polyamide sleeves are most commonly used on rough, textured surfaces such as masonry and other exterior surfaces. Polyamide sleeves are easier to clean and offer minimal fabric shedding.

Microfibre 100mm, 100mm Jumbo, 230mm, 250mm, 300mm & 380mm Gives a superior all round performance, with higher paint loading properties than other fabrics, releasing the paint more smoothly with reduced spatter and giving a great smooth finish. Microfibre is one of the most versatile fabrics and is suitable for use with almost all paints, from emulsions and glosses to woodcare products.

Advanced Polyester (Toptex) 100mm, 100mm Jumbo, 230mm & 300mm Superior absorbency for the best paint pick-up and greater coverage. Extra fine, high density fibres give a very smooth finish.

Genuine Sheepskin 230mm, 250mm, 300mm & 380mm A traditional genuine sheepskin wool product which combines great durability with higher paint loading, with a smooth release and an excellent quality finish. Best performance on rough and extra rough surfaces.

Polyacrylic (Silver Stripe) 100mm, 100mm Jumbo, 230mm, 250mm & 300mm A durable and long life fabric. Excellent all round performer giving great paint loading, coverage and finish.

Acrylic 100mm, 230mm, 250mm, 300mm & 380mm Acrylic fabric is a fantastic all-rounder. A synthetic fabric, which is particularly durable, and offers a great all round performance with exterior paint, emulsion and water based paint.

Polyester 180mm, 230mm, 250mm, 300mm & 380mm When cost is the primary consideration polyester sleeves give the best value and level of performance. Used with emulsion and water based paints this fabric will perform well in terms of paint loading and finish, with minimum expenditure.

Velour 100mm, 100mm Jumbo, 180mm, 230mm, 300mm & 380mm A very traditional professional decorator’s product. This synthetic woven fabric provides an excellent finish as well as being longer lasting than other gloss sleeves. This high quality, pile shed free sleeve is not only suitable for gloss and satin paints but is also ideal for low viscosity woodcare products and varnishes.

Magic Felt 100mm A unique, high density fabric which gives a perfect, smooth finish. Exceptional paint loading & coverage.

Flocked Foam 100mm Gives a superior, super smooth mirror-like finish with gloss, satin paints and varnishes. The dense foam is covered with a very short pile synthetic flock to give the best possible smooth finish.

Foam 50mm, 100mm, 100mm Jumbo, 120mm, 180mm, 150mm & 230mm A pile shed free finish is guaranteed with foam sleeves, and a high density of foam gives a great smooth finish when used with gloss and satin paints on a flat surface.

Nylon 100mm, 250mm, 300mm, 380mm & 450mm Nylon is a woven synthetic fabric which is resistant to solvents, making it ideal for use with solvent based paints, including resin and epoxy paints, as well as gloss, satin paints and wood stains.
