welcome to the

del mar national horse show No stranger to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, I exaggerate only slightly in saying I was born and raised here. My family and I actually lived in a house on the fairgrounds for about 12 years. I’ve worked on the fairgrounds in various capacities for 20 years, including 16 years in the Events Department where I managed a wide variety of events ranging from 5K runs and booking fair time entertainment, to the Good Guys Hot Rod show. I jokingly refer to it as the summer job I never quit! My father, Larry Bauman, worked for 36 years as Chief of Operations and my stepmother, Barbara (B.J.) Bauman, familiar to many of you, managed the Del Mar National for nine years.

In contemplating my new position at the helm of the 70th Annual Del Mar National Horse Show, a few phrases come to mind. For example, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and “the new broom sweeps clean.” As the new manager, it can be tempting to put my signature on it, but I prefer to work with and learn from staff members as they do their jobs. What I’ve observed, and am proud to be associated with, is a true collaborative effort. We strive each year to improve and present the finest in equestrian competition and entertainment, so in that sense, it certainly “ain’t broke.” But like any well-oiled machine, it requires consistent and meticulous maintenance. So, as the “new broom,” I am honored instead, to sweep in the platinum anniversary of the Del Mar National Horse Show and look forward to getting to know our extraordinary equestrian community better!
