We are a Collective of Creatives, Policy makers, Cultural Entrepreneurs, Residents and other stakeholders who will use the physical presence of this Space and its activities to engage in the discourse of how our old urban core can be revitalized through a more integrated approach than the current erasure and rebuild approach often found in our Cities. Our vision and mission is very simple. It is about using research to unearth knowledge. Itʼs about tapping into local resources, be it human, material, context, human activity, trade and commerce, to reimagine how Creativity can be used to trigger economic development. This Initiative is not about individuals but strictly about how WE “ENGAGE WITH THE EVERYDAY” tapping into local resources and, through design and programming, improve Economy, as we have done with some of our previous Initiatives in the area.

The building stands next to another historical structure that serves as a cultural gathering space, Old Kingsway Building and is two doors down from the historical Dutch fort, Ussher Fort. The gallery is in a prime location to tap into the tourist economy of Jamestown, allowing us to engage in active community development.

linking into community engaging the urban landscape

In the next phase of our initiatives we will look at the historic Wato Club where we will collaborate with Edem musician, poet and activist - to turn this space into a mecca for Hiplife music. In its heyday, Wato Club was the premier music and entertainment venue in Accra. We seek to reprogram this building and the adjacent Sahala market into an entertainment, cultural and public space underpinned by economy. This will be achieved through the use of local resources and through design and programming. We can transform these historic places into poles of growth, with and for the local community,

The proximity of the site to a number of tourist attractions Ussher Fort and Old Kingsway Building - place this gallery directly in the path of visitors to Jamestown, making this the ideal opportunity to reach out to them, bridging their engagements with the local population.

Phase 2 engaging community

As part of this initiative, we will expand are greening initiative to connect our gallery with Wato Club, contributing to the greening of the area.
