ALUMNI MESSAGE

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Did you ever think you would experience anything like this pandemic during your lifetime? As our communities respond to this crisis, we are being asked to care and make choices to mitigate the spread of the virus. In the midst of this very challenging situation, I recognize that there’s a lot of anxiety and concern surrounding COVID-19. As an alumnus, I’m extremely proud of and grateful to the DSU faculty, staff, and administrators who have been working not only to continue to educate our DSU students (online), but also to take extra precautions to safeguard them and stay true to our mission.

I hope that you are taking every precaution to protect yourself and your loved ones. The term social distancing had not been part of my vocabulary, but it’s now the expectation in my new normal.

I have been inspired by everyone who is working hard to stay balanced under these circumstances. Because you know what? We are all adjusting to our new normal. The uncertainties we are facing make it all the more important for each of us to look after ourselves so that we can come out of this stronger and better. Remember that it’s OK to take the time you need to step back and create a better you.

I think the biggest takeaway from all of this is to try to stick to routines that can help us feel focused, intentional, and calm. Sticking to routines is a great way to practice self-care. Remember, time is the one resource we can never get back. Now is when you need to be deliberate about how you spend your time and take care of yourself and the ones you love.

I encourage you to stay connected to your DSU family and remain steadfast in the values and spirit that our campus represents. Let’s be purposeful about grace and patience. Our university—your university—will get through this together.

So, how do we become more intentional? I would love to hear what you are doing during this time. Let’s all unite on our new DSU Alumni Connect mobile app!
