the untreated clinic 01 national university of singapore year 3 , semester 1 08/15 - 12/15 scaffolding is often perceived as a form of contruction work. the mere sight of such systems alerts passer bys of hazardous works; thus to refrain from entering the area. but this mysterious system also strikes curiosity of the condition of buildings and functions within. this project deems to explore the option of utilizing scaffolding as a means of striking curiosity in an optimally deployable health screening station. furthermore, by integrating a second hand market, the deployable station doubles as a space that advocates community interaction.
site the given site is located beside paya lebar mrt train station. on weekends, the area is crowded with a racially diverse group. this brings an opportunity for individuals to interact. in addition, an integrated second hand marketplace provides the local communities with a reason to reach out and meet.
an encased function as part of displaying the concept of scaffolding being the solid enclosed by the temporary frames, the primary function of health screening is centralized in the overview plan.
analysis the project has adopted three directions throughout the process. firstly, the concept of scaffolding having an internal function. secondly, to incorporate and the circulation of a marketplace into the extruded arms. thirdly, to integrate air pockets throughout the space to allow users to appreciate the fresh and green surroundings.
zoning axonometric the placements of the final zones are inspired by the nature of circulation in a second hand market. an exterior and interior circulation is evidently hinted

by the differing roof levels.
day during the day, the health screening booths are accessible to public and furnitures are arranged in a manner thatprovides spaces for comunity members and foreign workers to engage in a relaxed environment. with health exhibition booths placed across the seated areas, passerbys are exposed to health education knowledge.
night transitioning into night, the flexibility of the blinds allow the internal health screening stations to be completely sealed off. additionally, the furnitures are moved and internal lightings set the mood for a second hand market place. health education booths are in place to promote healthy lifestyles amongst the community.
suggestive heights the flexibility of the scaffolding-like structure enables the design to consist of 4 different heights. this unique feature aids in differentiating the spaces. the height differences also allow users to easily navigate through the spaces.
deployability though the application of frames stemmed from the idea of scaffolding, every joint is specially designed to provide maximum speed and quality for a deployable structure.
1:10 model there are two main joints that hold the structure together and provide optimal flexibility and deployability in the design. the roof/gutter connectors and the floor connectors. both playing critical roles in the overall structure. as required, the components allow the overall design to be fitted to different site’s requirements.

gateway housing project 02 university of sheffield year 2 , semester 2 01/15 - 05/15 the gateway housing complex in heeley aims to strengthen a community that lacks a sense of belonging. this is addressed in the scheme by creating a bold landmark while promoting interaction in the environment through a luxurious housing complex that maximizes the potential of it’s sloped site. by providing spaces that spurs communication and interaction, the scheme aspires to strengthen relationships in the neighborhood thereby reinforcing the concept of rejuvenating the community’s sense of belonging.
street panorama findings from the site study suggests that most surrounding buildings within the city were covered with brick. the section above displays the distinct building typology that can be seen throughout heeley.
1:200 site model as envisioned in the masterplan, the south-west frontage of the site is to be a bustling central shopping area for heeley. this deems the site to be a critical connection and gateway to the community gathering spaces.
heeley is a brick dominated residential housing suburb located south to the late industrial city of shefffield in the united kingdom. by reinventing the image currently painted by the old suburb, the scheme boldly displays a unique composition with foreign materials that starkly contrasts its surrounding.

reinventing an image
plan twelve housing units are arranged in four repeated clusters of three rectangular footprints that form a u-shape facing the undisturbed views. the external materiality is consistent throughout the design in its reflection of its internal functions. the warmth of wood on the ground levels constitutes the private bedroom spaces whilst the lofty shared space above utilizes concrete to frame the noble views for the interior communal spaces.
double volume internal spaces in the upper levels provide for luxurious common spaces, whilst the neccessary privacy required for the bedrooms are achieved through the quiet and warm lower levels.

connectivity
axis in assisting the connectivity, three main axes extend through the housing complex, paving the routes from residential estates to commercial buildings. additionly, an eight-meter wide central walkway runs perpendicular to the connecting axes. this walkway allows communal activities to take place within the complex, thus promoting interaction between public and private domains.
four elements to create a bold landmark that gives the community a sense of identity, the scheme aspires to be a rich picturesque complex located near the center of the small town. the promotion of human interaction in the public domains of the scheme is implemented by designing the external spaces to have an increased amount of visual connectivity. due to the steeply sloped site, an objective was to maximize the potential of the view over the city by stepping down each layer of houses to ensure each unit enjoys undisrupted and luxurious views over the city. furthermore, the scheme encompasses both internal and external experiential
