We recognise the value of comics and graphic novels in libraries, and how best to build and promote a collection that increases literacy and engages readers of all ages.

Multimodal texts include picture books, text books, graphic novels, and comics, where meaning is conveyed to the reader through varying combinations of visual (still image) written language, and spatial modes.
Comics and graphic novels are great for reluctant readers as they are less overwhelming and supported by visual cues. They are also brilliant for advanced readers because of their concise and efficient writing and the high incidence of rare words.
Embrace interest in these popular materials and invest in furniture to encourage browsing and borrowing.
