Establishing Professional Practice – Digital Practice

I feel that I have taken on board plenty of valuable skills in Digital Practice. Throughout the sessions I have grown in confidence with the programs that we have used and I am aware of which ones to use appropriately. I feel that I am strongest when using SkecthUp and Artlantis for projects as these are the operations that I have found easiest to learn carryout. As I have practiced using SketchUp in most projects and come to understand the functions it made it easier for me to understand the works of Artlantis. I have gained an understanding of the effects of what I produce in SkecthUp has on what I am able to carry out on Artlantis. I am aware that my weakest practice is in Photoshop. However, I have learnt a lot of the nessasery functions of it and am able to use them effectively. I have just never been able to grasp the functions of Photoshop even in previous education, but through Digital Practice I have now started to use it more. I have found AutoCAD to be the most useful program as most of our projects have required having to use it. Most recently I have found doing technical drawings in AutoCAD to be challenging even so it creates the most professional looking work in my opinion. I feel that I have been able to comprehend all of the software’s that we have been shown and feel that I have demonstrated this in my notes, although I realise that I still have to develop these skills independently. Here are examples of what I see to be some of my strongest final outcomes through Digital Practice.

Establishing Professional Practice – Learning to learn

I feel that I have developed my drawing skills and awareness well through this module. Through the sessions I have taken on board many desired skills, most importantly in the technical/perspective drawings. I don’t feel that I have ever been particularly strong in technical drawing; I have never done much of it to begin with. After getting my head around the methods of the measured sectional perspective drawings I can see how it is very important to understand and use in practice. Doing the Sketchbook diary has been useful for me as it has motivated me to not just draw obvious things/places. I actually enjoyed going to public spaces and drawing, which was not something I would always want to go out and do. I feel that my best drawing would be the fruit drawing that we did during the studio exercise. I see this as my most accurate perspective drawing, is feel that being encouraged to use different shades of pencils helped me produce a good quality. I had never considered the harshness of pencils for drawings previously, but since doing this session I consciously use a palette of them when drawing. I feel that the lesson was very beneficial as it I was able to find a preference in what I use. The sessions with Adelina were also educational as she showed us that when using colour we aren’t constricted with only showing the colours that we see, but to try and be bold and use unconventional ones. I haven’t always been a fan of using colour in my drawing as I just prefer using black, white and shading tones so being introduced to the idea of not always having to follow the colours that are there was appealing. I feel that I need to continue a drawing diary independently as I know I will benefit from doing quick sketches as I am aware that I get too caught up in trying to do large detailed sketches all the time. Here are examples of what I see to be some of my strongest final outcomes through learning to learn.
