Heat Denninger’s French Onion Soup from frozen. When the soup is heating cut bread into croutons or slices and place on a baking sheet drizzle olive oil and bake in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes (or until brown). When soup and bread are ready, pour soup in an ovenproof bowl and place croutons and shredded cheese on top. Place in the oven (on broil) for 5 minutes or until top of the soup is golden brown. Serves 4.
Energize Your Valentine with Antioxidants and Omega 3’s from Chia Seeds! THE BENEFITS OF BLACK CHIA SEEDS: ANTIOXIDANTS: Anthocyanins are antioxidant pigments, coloured red, purple, black or blue found in berries, pomegranates, cherries, eggplant, currant and grape skins and black varieties of the following foods: chia seeds, beans, rice, quinoa, radishes, tea and dark chocolate. RUNNING FOOD: Chia seeds are a complete food with essential amino acids, bioavailable protein, good fat, high fibre carbohydrates, iron, calcium, magnesium, folic acid and tryptophan (a precursor for serotonin and melatonin). The Aztec consumed chia seeds to sustain energy, speed up workout recovery, promote lean muscle mass and to stay hydrated. Chia seeds are highly absorbent. When soaked in water they produce a gelatin like substance which is easy to digest and beneficial for hydration. USES: Add chia seeds to salads, soups, smoothies, cereals, baked goods, mashed potatoes and drinks or mix with hemp and ground flaxseed. To replace eggs in a recipe, mix 1 Tbsp of chia seeds with 3 Tbsp of water. RECIPE – Chia Energy Balls: In a food processor combine: 10 pitted soaked dates plus 2Tbsp water, 9 Tbsp peanut butter or other nut butter, 1/4 cup maple syrup, 1/4 cup coconut flour, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 cup rolled oats or quinoa flakes, 1/4 cup chia seeds. Transfer mixture to a bowl. Use hands to mix in 1 1/2 cups puffed rice or puffed quinoa and 1/3cup semisweet chocolate chips. Form into 36 balls and freeze. Enjoy with your valentine!
