Seeing the back of 2020 for many was a relief that came with a sigh that was noteably tuneful. Let's agree that this pandemic - when it ends - will then give birth to a new dawning. A dawning that brings new hope, invigoration, new thinking and systems that mean we live on with new purpose and new ways of looking at things.

Moreover, an appreciation to adopt a 'new normal' which suggests that the old one is spent and now redundant. It appears that technology won't be holding back. The idea that technological development grows exponentially, we're seeing its newness crafted in amazing robo tech, car manufacuring and smart devices. Industries that produce waste now have a pressing obligation to honour a new stance with respect to sustainabilty and best practice. Let's combine hope and obligation to create a brave new ingenius world for our future.

Design notes: The collaborative collection is focused on a neutral color palette. All the main elements of the men's wardrobe, from the suit to the coats to the formal shoes, have been reread in the light of a luxury devoid of any rigidity. The jackets of the suits are simplified: they lose the lapels and have pockets repositioned on the hips for more linear silhouettes. Ermenegildo Zegna's logo, written in the font of Fear of God, appears embossed on the backs of bomber jackets and jackets as leisurewear elements infiltrate the sartorial codes with joggers-like formal trousers that have a cummerbund band at the waist.

Report: New Aston Martin Lagonda saloon to lead firm's electric charge in 2021. Luxury Lagonda saloon will be first series-production electric model for car maker; it'll rival the Rolls-Royce Phantom. The decision reflects Aston’s plan to position Lagonda as a futuristic alternative to Rolls-Royce and Bentley. It aims to be the first luxury brand to truly embrace modern technology and the efficiency of EV design, mixing a near-silent zero- emissions powertrain with increased cabin space. Delivery: “As times become increasingly complex, clothes become straightforward, unostentatious, machines for living and tools for action and activity.” So said the press notes for The Show That Never Happened, which was a digitally delivered group installation of five Prada-facing films by Willy Vanderperre, Juergen Teller, Joanna Piotrowska, Martine Syms, and Terence Nance.

Fashion note: In a bid to refocus attention on the clothes, the collection proposes a suite of pieces that house use and value, which while aesthetically beautiful, are void of frivolity.

A very French sensibility in East London.

Housed in a former Lyon’s Coffee House on the edge of Smithfield meat market, Pascal Aussignac’s fabulous restaurant is a temple to Gascon gastronomy, the robust cooking of southwest France (cassoulet, duck, foie gras etc) which not many restaurants in London can offer. Aussignac’s thoughtful reinvention makes for a modern and mindblowing menu that now boasts a Michelin star, and, offering no fewer than 10 variations of foie gras, it’s become a mecca for it. Having been instrumental in the industry’s sharing revolution, dishes come tapas-sized so that everyone gets to try a bit of everything (five or six dishes per person make up a full meal), though you can still keep it all for yourself with an à la carte menu. The elegant room and good French wine list make it a popular spot for business lunches, but in the evenings true gastronauts take over. If you don’t want the full blowout, there’s Cellar Gascon, a wine-tasting and tapas bar next door and a deli/café on the other side of the market (Comptoir Gascon, 61 Charterhouse Street, EC1; 020 7608 0851). The same team is behind Le Cercle in Chelsea (1 Wilbraham Place, SW1; 020 7901 9999), a more modern space, equally modern concept.
