Hinesburg residents consider new town vision By Lou Varricchio newmarketpress@denpubs.com HINESBURG — Times, they are a changin’ in Hinesburg. Residents are considering a number of construction and expansion projects around town; some folks are pleased with the changes, others are not. Alex Weinhagen, the town’s director of planning & zoning, sees the glass as more than half full. Many of the changes will improve the town’s quality of life, he said. On Feb. 11 at the Hinesburg Town Office, town residents were able to look at the future of Hinesburg’s village area in 3-D. The village visualization presentation and community forum was the culmination of a nine-month project by the Hinesburg Village Steering Committee. “The VSC has been working with consultants T.J. Boyle Associates and funding from the town and from a taxpayer-funded Vermont Municipal Planning Grant. At the forum, project consultants will show maps and 3-D imagery, renderings of buildings, streetscapes, and green spaces of likely future development,” according to Weinhagen. Like many Vermont communities, See HINESBURG, page 20

Warren Van Wyck
FERRISBURGH — Gov. Peter Shumlin (D) appointed Rep. Warren Van Wyck (R) of Ferrisburgh to serve out the unexpired term of late Rep. Greg Clark in the Addison-3 District. Van Wyck was sworn in Jan. 8 and immediately set to work getting familiar with his various duties in the capitol. Last week, Van Wyck expressed his firm commitment to honoring the legacy of Clark and to “faithfully serving the people of Addison, Ferrisburgh, Panton, Vergennes, and Waltham.” Van Wyck said he is getting up to speed quickly after the appointment. “Previously I had been pleased and encouraged to be selected by fellow party members to be one of those recommended on Jan. 17, and also to receive community support via letters to the governor's office,” he told the Eagle. ”Of much significance and encouragement to me, was the endorsement of Eileen Clark, who I had never talked to or met before Jan. 22." The new legislator also thanked Gov. Shumlin for the appointment. “That the governor selected me as ‘a qualified person to fill the vacancy for the remaining portion of the term’ is the most important and significant support. I am thankful to him for appointing me to fill the vacancy. Certainly I can not replace Rep. Greg Clark, yet, I’ll strive to honor his legacy, his party commitments and concerns of the voters of this district.” Van Wyck said he is looking forward to meeting more residents of the district in the coming weeks, learning about their needs, serving the constituents of the district and honoring his constitutional oath. TILLA One and a half year old. Spayed Female. American Shelter Dog. I am a big lug of a dog with lots of different sides to my personality. Even though I look big and tough, the staff here has seen that the kennels really scare me with all the barking and banging. For the first year and a half of my life I lived in a home with other cats and dogs and kids aged 10 and up. I am house trained and know “sit”, “down”, and “stay”. A favorite way for me to pass the time is chewing rawhides, and I do mean chewing. I got through a big one really fast.
TAILSPIN One year old. Spayed Female. Domestic Short Hair Gray Tiger. I’m an adorable one year old gray tiger who would love to come home and find cozy nooks in your house. I’m sweet and friendly and will make a great addition to any family. I arrived at RCHS as a stray.

I am a beautiful long haired princess ready for a loving family to call my own. I would really enjoy my golden years being treated like the queen that I really am. Sometimes I am not a huge fan of other cats so the prefect home for me would probably be as an only kitty. I am a loving girl but I do let you know when I have had enough attention, all princesses need their beauty rest after all.

Bill will punish corporate tax cheats Stand up and speak out
W
e learned last week that U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) will be jointly introducing the Corporate Tax Fairness Act in Congress. The act, if passed later this year, will keep profitable corporations from sheltering profits in the Cayman Islands as well as other offshore tax havens. We like the fairness of the proposed bill and applaud Sanders and Schakowsky for going after America’s fat-cat corporate tax cheats and outsourcers. According to Sanders, “this bill also would stop rewarding companies that ship jobs and factories overseas with tax breaks.” It’s stunning to learn just how much tax money—and accompanying jobs—flee U.S. shores. It’s evidence that so many of our large corporations prefer to run the dollar sign flag up the pole ahead of the Stars and Stripes. When given the freedom, these corporations will pledge allegiance to profits over homeland. While most of us in the middle class trenches are watching our paychecks shrink with new federal taxes in force (I thought the middle class wasn’t supposed to be taxed?), it’s particularly galling to see wealthy, onshore corporate entities “hide” their earnings overseas just to avoid doing what the rest of us don’t especially care for either. Sanders said the Joint Committee on Taxation has estimated that the provisions in the proposed bill will raise more than $590 billion in revenue over the next decade. That’s a nice chunk of change for Uncle Sam’s coffers; money that would otherwise benefit other nations (as well as other laborers). Sanders’ and Schakowsky’s Corporate
Tax Fairness Act will significantly reform the tax code by ending the deferral of foreign source income that allows U.S. corporations to avoid paying taxes on overseas profits. What follows is an excerpt of the actual text of Sanders’ and Schakowsky’s proposed bill: “Under current law, U.S. corporations are allowed to defer or delay U.S. income taxes on overseas profits until this money is brought back into the United States. U.S. corporations are also provided foreign tax credits to offset the amount of taxes paid to other countries. This offshore tax scheme has provided two perverse incentives for American corporations. “First, it motivates large companies to shift as much of their profits as possible overseas by setting up subsidiaries in the Cayman Islands and other tax haven countries. “Second, it allows corporations to receive huge tax breaks for establishing manufacturing facilities in countries with very low or no corporate tax rates. Closing these tax loopholes would (help) reduce (a portion of) the deficit and create jobs that millions of Americans need.” If enacted, the Corporate Tax Fairness Act would prevent U.S. corporations from avoiding federal taxes by claiming to be what amounts to a “foreign company” just by setting up a post office box in a taxhaven country. While such a law might not be ideal for self-interested, over-paid corporate executives and their greedy majority stake shareholders, it will ultimately benefit long neglected federal revenue collection efforts as well as the rapidly diminishing American middle class. I
am fortunate to be able to have and use this venue to voice my concerns about the direction of our country. Each week I hear from many of you. At times, I must admit I’m a little embarrassed by the acknowledgements and the degree of praise I receive. I think readers recognize I’m writing from the heart. It’s not so much how I put the words on paper, but perhaps the passion and belief behind what I try to convey. Like many of you, I’m concerned about the direction of our country, the attitude of our people and the things we see that are clearly not moving the nation in a positive direction. My goal here is to voice concern from a position that I hope the majority can agree needs attention. I also hope to encourage our leaders to put aside their party affiliation and hidden agendas designed to further divide the nation and stonewall needed legislation. I don’t consider myself a radical, a revolutionary or someone who sees a conspiracy behind every tree. There are simply subjects that I don’t see appearing in the national media, however, that should be covered and I’m concerned why they are ignored. I make these points because it reflects what I hear from many of you when you contact me. One of my concerns when I began writing this column a couple years ago was the fear of offending some readers or advertisers who ultimately pay the way for this free newspaper. I’m surprised at the number of you who express concern about speaking out and expressing their views either in letters to the editor, guest commentaries or comments on the web site. Fear of retribution is a major concern for many of you. The concern that in this land of free speech many have been silenced by fear, not of what others will think, but more so by what others may do, is an alarming trend. Respectful disagreement has taken a back seat in this day and age. One can easily see how outspoken individuals can be labeled “crackpots” or “nut cases” and the media and our politicians should take the blame for making citizens fearful about speaking out. Think for a moment, if you were given an opportunity to speak out respectfully about your primary concerns for the key
issues facing this nation and you had the opportunity to do so less than 5 feet Dan Alexander from the Thoughts from president, Behind the Pressline vice president, the first lady and many of our elected officials. I encourage you to watch the 27minute video of Dr. Benjamin Carson, a John Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon who dug his way out of the poorest of situations when he was young and gave a speech last week at the National Prayer Breakfast. Carson offered his concerns for the nation on subjects like the deficit, education, taxation, political correctness, partisan bickering and God all while the nation’s leaders looked on. The video is available on YouTube. In case you don’t have access to a computer, here is one of Carson’s many points: CARSON: “What we need to do is come up with something simple. And when I pick up my Bible, you know what I see? I see the fairest individual in the universe, God, and he's given us a system. It's called a tithe. We don't necessarily have to do 10 percent but it's the principle. He didn't say if your crops fail, don't give me any tithe or if you have a bumper crop, give me triple tithe. So there must be something inherently fair about proportionality. You make $10 billion, you put in a billion. You make $10 you put in one. Of course you've got to get rid of the loopholes. Some people say, 'Well that's not fair because it doesn't hurt the guy who made $10 billion as much as the guy who made 10.' Where does it say you've got to hurt the guy? He just put a billion dollars in the pot. We don't need to hurt him. It's that kind of thinking that has resulted in 602 banks in the Cayman Islands. That money needs to be back here building our infrastructure and creating jobs.” Dan Alexander is associate publisher of New Market Press. He may be reached at dan@newmarketpressvt.com.

New England man buys rare 1865 baseball card By Lou Varricchio
newmarketpress@denpubs.com Ever wish your mom didn't throw out your childhood baseball card collection? Here's a Civil War-era 1865 Brooklyn Atlantics baseball card worth more than its weight in gold. The photo card was found at a yard sale in Maine during the summer. It is now considered by Library of Congress experts to be one of the first photo sports cards ever printed in the world. The Brooklyn team pictured on the card played in an amateur northeast U.S. league. The card sold for $92,000 at an auction in Maine Feb. 6. An unnamed Massachusetts man made the winning bid.
Novelist to talk at Mount Holly library BELMONT-MT. HOLLY — The Mount Holly Town Library and the Book Nook bookshop will host an author event with novelist Jon Clinch on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m., at the Mt. Holly Town Library. Clinch’s first book, “Finn,” was named an American Library Association Notable Book and was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle's first-ever Best Recommended List. Finn was also recognized in many national publications as the best book of 2007. Clinch's second novel, Kings of the Earth, published by Random House in 2010 also received wide acclaim and was touted in Oprah magazine. Clinch’s newest book, “The Thief of Auschwitz,” is self-published. Vermont author Howard Frank Mosher said of Clinch’s book, “It’s a stunning portrait of how love of family, of freedom, and of art can triumph over pure, relentless evil. For my money, it's the best and most powerful work of fiction ever written about the Holocaust.” The Mt. Holly Town Library is located at 26 Maple Hill Road in Belmont. Clinch will also sign copies of his books at the Book Nook, at 136 Main St. in Ludlow Saturday, Feb. 16, 2-4 p.m.

‘Camp Quest’ on Town Meeting ballots LUDLOW — Ludlow’s Select Board voted to place the following article on March’s Town Meeting Australian ballot: “Shall the voters of the Town of Ludlow authorize the collection of up to $20,000 to join with the Ludlow Rotary Club and others to fund and implement a program for middle school students that will provide the opportunity to improve academic performance, foster new friendships, and share challenging and inspiring experiences with the overall objective of increasing their skills and consequently their self-confidence and selfworth. The program will operate parallel with but separate from the Ludlow Recreation Summer Program and will run for seven weeks.” Mt Holly has a similar item for up to $5,000 on its Australian ballot. Ludlow Rotarians plan to launch Camp Quest for upcoming 9th and 10th graders from the Ludlow Belmont and Mt. Holly region this summer. It is expected to operate from June 24 to Aug. 9 at no cost to local students. The Rotary has pledged an initial $5,000 to support the program with additional funding to come. In addition, the organizational, planning and major operational support will come primarily from the Ludlow Rotary membership. The Rotary’s Camp Quest organizing committee is composed of Frank Heald, Chairman, Howie Paul, Brigid Sullivan, Pam Cruickshank, Jerry Tucker, James Frail, David Almond, Ralph Pace and Sandy Burgess, Club president.

RUTLAND — The famous New England Civil War regiment portrayed in the 1990 motion picture "Glory," the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, will be celebrated by area re-enactors during Black History Month at Old Sturbridge Village, in Sturbridge, Mass., where some of the movie was filmed. The 54th was the first all-black volunteer military unit in the country. And just like the real 54th, today's re-enactors will include several African-American Vermonters. Commissioned in 1863 and commanded by white officer Robert Gould Shaw (portrayed by Matthew Broderick in the movie), the 54th distinguished itself in the Battle of Fort Wagner in South Carolina, which guarded the Port of Charleston. Shaw and 281 soldiers were killed storming the fort. Today, members of the Boston-based 54th keep the history of the 54th alive through battle reenactments and school appearances with a special performance at Old Sturbridge Village Feb. 23-24.

Solar energy firm installs 1,000th panel

newmarketpress@denpubs.com VERGENNES — Waterbury-based solar-panel installer SunCommon, marked a milestone last week. The company installed its 1,000th photovoltaic panel. According to spokeswoman Andrea Ochs, the firm—which is active locally—plans to install number 1,005 in Addison County. “I’ve spoken with dozens of Addison County residents about solar since we launched in October. Everyone has a different reason for making the switch – whether they need to lower their living expenses or they’re concerned about climate change. The commitment from our community to local, clean energy sources is just amazing,” Ochs said. ADDISON — A stolen snowmobile in New Haven was found by Gordon Haldeman of Addison. Haldeman called the Vermont State Police in New Haven to report that he found a snowmobile while walking in the woods of Chimney Point State Park. #Haldeman described it as a multi-colored red, white, and black Polaris 700. The snowmobile described by Haldeman matched the description of the snowmobile Patrick Cyr of New Haven reported as stolen on Jan. 5 (see related story in the Vermont Eagle). Haldeman, Patrick Cyr, Rodney Cyr, and Trooper Cathy Cappetta met in Addison at Chimney Point State Park. They walked in the woods for three-quarters of a mile and located the snowmobile. The serial number on the Polaris snowmobile and Cyr's paperwork was a match. There was no damage to the snowmobile and the unknown suspect had covered it with an snowmobile cover. It was driven out of the woods and returned to Cyr. If anyone has information on this case, or would like to claim the snowmobile cover, call Trooper Cappetta at 802388-4919.

Vermont’s Junior Iron Chefs take center stage By Lou Varricchio
newmarketpress@denpubs.co m ESSEX JUNCTION — Cooking fabulous, delicious dishes isn’t just for the big, bossy artisan chefs you see brooding and fussing on television. The annual Junior Iron Chef Vermont contest proves that even young people, especially teens with lots of smiles, can display a genuine creative flair in the kitchen. On Feb. 2, 330 middle and high school students from across Vermont—with several participants from Chittenden, Addison, Rutland and Windsor counties— gathered at the Champlain Valley Expo Center to participate in the Sixth Annual Junior Iron Chef Vermont competition. The event, which lasted just 90 minutes, had young chefs cracking, eggs, whisking bowls, and sizzling onions under the ticking minute hand of a timer clock. Students had to use original recipes and local farm ingredients that could be used in a school lunchroom. Students actually began preparing for the Feb. 2 event back in September. There were 74 teams competing representing 55 Vermont schools. Members of the Burlington School Food Project and Vermont FEED are the event’s co-organizers. On the event judging stand were several notable chefs: Rowan Jacobsen, a James beard Award chef and author, and school chef Meggen Hanna judged the dishes of the junior chefs. The Expo hall was packed with more than 1,000 spectators, consisting mostly of family, friends, and teachers. Live music egged on the junior chefs—pun intended— by local youth bands Diversity Rocks! and Sweet Transition. “Junior Iron Chef Vermont and the Vermont Farm to
School movement are models that I am proud to recommend to the whole country,” said U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D) the event’s VIP. Prizes were awarded for both morning and afternoon heats in both the middle and high school team categories. And the event’s Best in Show awards represented recipes that incorporated colors, textures, and taste. The Lively Local Award represented recipes that best highlight Vermont foods. “We are constantly impressed with the efforts of the hundreds of students and community volunteers from all over our state that make Junior Iron Chef such a success,” said event organizer Libby McDonald. “We could not be more excited to celebrate Vermont’s Farm to School movement with this incredibly joyful group of leaders.” McDonald noted that the event would have happened without considerable community support. “Junior Iron Chef Vermont is made possible by 24 generous sponsors including Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Blodgett Supply

MONTPELIER Visitors to Farmers’ Night, at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 20 at the Vermont State House in Montpelier will step back in time to experience the sweeping changes and excitement of the 1830s. Actors and musicians will give voice to the writings and music of Vermonters who lived through history, speaking passionately on politics, religion, and social change. The Vermont Historical Society’s annual Farmers’ Night program will celebrate the Society’s 175th anniversary by delving into the years that led up to its founding. Four men, Daniel Pierce Thompson, George P. Mansur, Henry Stevens, and Oramel H. Smith, envisioned an organization that was, in its early days, primarily a library. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call Amanda Gustin at 802-828-2180.

Robert Sydorowich of Ludlow paints the Vermont countryside, where he has lived for over 40 years. He works in oils and in the transparent watercolor media style, and says, “I am trying to capture the simple small town life in and around Andover Vermont". Reminiscent of the impressionist movement, Sydorowich's work Portrays real places, real people, real life situations. Photo by Don Dill

Vermont’s ICBM sites no longer accessible By Lou Varricchio
newmarketpress@denpubs.com During the contentious Cold War-era of the 1960s, Vermont had the dubious honor of hosting two of the U.S. Air Force’s Atlas ICBM nuclear-attack missile sites. These concrete and steel silos were placed deep underground. Each silo site contained a nuclear-tipped Atlas rocket that, when targeted and launched, could wipe out a city the size of Moscow in a matter of moments. With the establishment of the former U.S. Air Force Plattsburgh Air Base as a major bomber and nuclear-weapons center during the Cold War, the Department of Defense ruled that a perimeter of 12 hardened ICBM bases—straddling both Vermont and New York—must be constructed around

the air base to protect it. Starting in 1960 on through 1962, Plattsburgh AFB’s 380th Strategic Air Wing went on high alert. In those days, the threat of atomic war cast a long shadow across the world. The 82-foot-long, kerosene/liquid oxygen-fueled Atlas F ICBM was a near duplicate to NASA’s civilian Atlas launcher which rocketed Mercury-7 astronauts into low Earth orbit between 1962 and 1963. The Atlas F force was managed by the men and women of the 556th Strategic Missile Squadron under the 380th Strategic Air Wing. The Atlas F missile, also classified as a rocket, was built by General Dynamics. It was secured in underground silo sites in both New York and Vermont as well as in the American midwest. The Atlas F ICBMs remained ready to launch at a moment’s notice. Their crews were always ready—within 10 minutes time of being alerted. From start to finish, the missile squadron lasted from 1960 to 1965. According to ICBM expert Cliff Lethbridge, the Atlas Fs deployed in Vermont were reliable and their nuclear warhead could pack a doomsday wallop. “The TSM-65F Atlas, or Atlas-F, was 82 feet, six inches long,” Lethbridge says. “It was approximately 10 feet in diameter and could fly more than 11,500 miles.” Lethbridge says the Atlas F was very reliable and was always ready to go to war. “The Air Force’s method of storage allowed the Atlas F to be launched in about 10 minutes,” he says, “a saving of about five minutes over the Atlas D and Atlas E, both of which were stored horizontally and had to be raised to a vertical position before being fueled with either RP-1 kerosene liquid fuel or liquid oxygen.” All former 556th Atlas F ICBM sites are on private property today. There hasn’t been much interest expressed by either New York or Vermont historians in preserving, let alone acquir-

ing, the 556th Atlas F ICBM sites in the region; the job appears to be up to private landowners, that is, if they have any interest or extra funds—both of which seem dubious at this time. In Vermont, only one of its two silo sites—outside Alburg—has a state historical marker nearby. The metal marker, located about a quarter mile away from the former Atlas F site, stands in honor of the service of members of the 556th who protected the U.S. from possible nuclear attack in the darkest days of the Cold War. Vermont’s other silo site, located in Swanton, is owned by a water-drilling company. What happened to Bill McKibben? In his 2008 book “Deep Economy,” Middlebury College's Bill McKibben concludes that economic growth is the source of the ecological crises we face today. He explains that when the economy grows larger than necessary to meet our basic needs – when it grows for the sake of growth, automatically striving for “more” – its social and environmental costs greatly outweigh any benefits it may provide. Unfortunately, McKibben seems to have forgotten what he so passionately argued just five years ago. Today he is an advocate of industrial wind turbines on our ridgelines: he wants to industrialize our last wild spaces to feed the very economy he fingered as the source of our environmental problems. His key assumption is that industrial wind power displaces the use of coal and oil, and therefore helps limit climate change. But since 2000, wind facilities with a total capacity equivalent to 350 coal-fired power plants have been installed worldwide, and today there are more – not fewer – coal-fired power plants operating. (In Vermont, the sale of Renewable Energy Credits to out-of-state utilities enables them to avoid mandates to reduce their fossil fuel dependency, meaning that there is no net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.) At best, industrial wind simply adds more energy to the global supply.
And what for? More! More energy than the grid can carry, more idiotic water parks, more snowmaking, more electronic gadgets, more money for corporations. Why should we spend millions of dollars to destroy wildlife habitat, kill bats and eagles, pollute our headwaters, fill valuable wetlands, polarize our communities, make people sick, mine rare earth metals – just to ensure that we can consume as much or more next year than we did this year? The costs of industrial wind far outweigh the benefits, unless you are a wind developer. Federal production tax credits and other subsidies have fostered a gold rush mentality among wind developers, who have been abetted by political and environmental leaders who want to appear “green” without challenging the underlying causes of our crises. Meanwhile, average Vermonters find themselves without any ability to protect their communities or the ecosystems of which they are part. The goal of an industrial wind moratorium is to stop the gold rush so we can have an honest discussion on these issues. Why does this frighten proponents of big wind? Because once carefully examined, industrial wind will be exposed for the scam that it is. McKibben's current attitude towards the environment has been adopted by politicians, corporations, and the big environmental organizations. Environmentalism has been successfully mainstreamed, at the cost of its soul. This co-opted version isn't about protecting the landbase from the ever-expanding empire of humans. It’s about sustaining the comfort levels we feel entitled to without exhausting the resources required.
It is entirely human-centered and hollow, and it serves corporate capitalism well. In "Deep Economy", McKibben points out that the additional “stuff” provided by an ever-growing economy doesn’t leave people happier; instead, the source of authentic happiness is a healthy connection to nature and community. As Vermonters have already discovered, industrial wind destroys both. What industrial wind represents should be obvious to everyone: this is business-asusual disguised as concern for the Earth. Far
February 16, 2013 from genuine “environmentalism,” it is the same profit- and growth-driven destruction that is at the root of every ecological crisis we face. Suzanna Jones Walden, Vt. Weinhagen said some town residents are anxious about change—progress. He understands their concerns but may not agree that the changes are a bad thing. “Rumors of a Dollar General Store coming to Hinesburg have stirred up some passions,” he said. “There continues to be angst and appeals over the town’s decision to approve a new 36,000-square-foot Hannaford supermarket. Yep, Hinesburg has its share of controversy. Unfortunately, these controversies mask positive news and real success stories related to the changing face of Hinesburg, a rural community with a vibrant and growing village center. Weinhagen pointed to various projects around town that have improved, or will improve, residents’ quality of life. · Fletcher Allen Health Care received Development Review Board approval to build a new primary care facility on Shelburne Falls Road at the north end of the village. The $1.25 million project will provide a larger facility for the Hinesburg Family Health practice. · Bristol Bakery. Bristol Bakery & Café plans to open a new restaurant by Easter. The bakery outlet will be in the cornerstone building built last year next to Kinney Drugs and across from the Police Station, Weinhagen said. · Hinesburg Public House. Hinesburg’s newest restaurant and tavern opened at the old Saputo Cheese plant. “The eatery serves localvore foods in a warm and welcoming atmosphere,” Weinhagen said. · Senior Housing. “Hinesburg’s only senior housing facility, Kelley’s Field, was pur-
chased by Housing Vermont, who is considering expanding on the property, possibly more than doubling the existing 24 units, and in so doing, meet a critical need and burgeoning market for senior housing in the middle of a walkable village,” Weinhagen noted. · Cheese Plant Rebirth. Weinhagen said Hinesburg’s greatest success story of the last year was the rebirth of the former Sapto Cheese plant, which was damaged by fire in 2009. “This 15-acre property with 90,000 square feet of buildings has been rejuvenated thanks to entrepreneurs, community support, and the hard work of the current landowner Redstone. The plant now is home to Vermont Smoke and Cure, the Green Mountain Organic Creamery, bottling Kimball Brook Farm milk, and a high-tech manufacturing firm called Senix. With the new and popular Hinesburg Public House providing the welcome at the front end of the old cheese plant, this redevelopment project is real feather in the community’s cap,” Weinhagen said. · Police Station & Recreation Fields. “Community consensus is building around a proposal for a new police station that may be under construction this fall, pending voter approval at Town Meeting Day. The town is also planning a new 10-acre recreation field complex adjacent to the village center thanks to an anticipated donation of land by the Bissonette family,” Weinhagen said. For more information on the Village Visualization project, see the town website (www.hinesburg.org), contact a member of the Village Steering Committee (members listed on website), or contact Weinhagen at the Hinesburg Planning and Zoning office at 802-482-2281.
Addison-3 from page 1 “Since I only first considered this position four weeks,” he told the Eagle, “I don’t have a particular bill I plan to introduce. I'll include some goals: House of Representatives goals: Service for the constituents of the district, retain the younger generation in Vermont with economic opportunities, promote jobs, including high tech, with adequate wages for the high cost of living in this state, limit tax increases based on wage growth, promote technology for greater efficiencies in governmental operations, promote high quality and affordable post secondary education for current job market, promote agriculture, especially dairy farming, a major economic engine for the district, maintain services for the elderly, disabled, veterans, military families, and (create) order and safety in communities, as well as support crime prevention efforts.” The new state representative works as a senior analyst programmer at the University of Vermont.

OF ADDISON COUNTY
We are collecting Food For Addison County Hope and United Way, and are willing to bribe you!
Yes, we start off with a Free Brake Inspection and Free Brake diagnosis. If you need brakes, we provide FREE Premium Centric Brake Pads and $33.00 off the Labor to Install the Pads.
All you have to do is bring in a bag of
10 non-perishable food items for these fine organizations!
Is The Brake Job Going To Be Absolutely Free? Of course not - BUT - this is the Best Deal you will get anywhere! You get Free Premium Centric Brake Pads and the labor to install them, then you pay for any other brake parts and other work needed with County Tire Center’s quality work and service, and you help out Hope and United Way of Addison County.
Why Not Totally Free? No Cost Jobs would require us to use cheap parts and to do what we call in the industry a “pad slap” = throw on cheap pads as quickly as possible and not look at the rotors, calipers, master cylinders, brake lines and brake fluid. Cheap brake jobs have possible safety concerns, have a short life span, give poor performance, are noisy, plus they cost more in the long run! WE DON’T DO “PAD SLAPS”.
How Can You Give Such Big Discounts? We partnered with our Part Vendor and the Brake Manufacturer. They provide the brake pads, we provide the labor, and you provide the food! I call this a WIN / WIN! This is why we can only offer FREE Brakes for a limited time. You will save anywhere from $150 - $375 depending on: make, model & work needed.
Family owned & operated for 30 years.
