JOHNSBURG — Students at Johnsburg Central School recently took a break from their end-of-the-year preparations to spend some time with German Shepards Cash and Inca, search and rescue dogs from the Champlain Valley Search and Rescue K9 Unit. The dogs, along with their handlers Christopher Bressett and Patty Warrington and Champlain Valley Search and Rescue members Lizbeth and Robert Ordway met with Susanne Hayden’s fifth grade students. Aside from meeting the dogs, students were familiarized with wilderness tips from Bressett, team leader. “It always surprises me how much students in this area already know,” he said. “They grew up around wilderness and safety almost comes naturally to them.” The Champlain Valley K9 Unit is a non-profit team which specializes in training dogs and support personnel to search for and rescue lost or missing persons within a 100-mile radius of Keeseville, NY. “As an active K9 team we are specifically trained to assist with land and water searches, as well as natural or manmade disasters in which people may be trapped or missing,” Bressett said. Champlain Valley K9 also has made a strong commitment to community service in the way of education and helping youths gain necessary confidence and

Among the topics of conversation slated for Martino’s evening presentation is her reaction to the findings of the Adirondack Park Regional Assessment Project (APRAP). “For our region to truly benefit from the APRAP research, we need more focused effort on how to build and sustain park communities,” said Martino. “The report clearly states ‘The obvious need to merge long-term economic revitalization and environmental

Warrington is a German Shepard breeder in Olmstedville and plays the role of obedience trainer for Champlain Valley K9 Unit. The unit has been visiting local schools with their dogs for the past three years. Currently, the K9 unit consists of 12 members and eight dogs. All members are volunteers and dedicate countless hours to the unit on top of their full-time jobs. “The group’s volunteers give up everything to help and to train the dogs,” said Lizbeth Orway. “It really is a thankless job.” Lizbeth and Robert Ordway of Olmstedville have become increasingly involved in the K9 unit. Robert is in training to become a handler. Hayden’s students were sorry to see Cash and Inca leave at the end of their day and Johnsburg Central School hopes to welcome them back soon to share some of their safety tips with more students. Cruise Nights join a busy Thursday evening in North Creek By Lindsay Yandon lindsay@denpubs.com NORTH CREEK — Local car owners will show off their classic, antique and sports cars the evening of June 17 on Main Street in North Creek during their first ever Cruise Night. Cruise Night joins a Thursday night schedule overflowing with events in North Creek including the Depot Museum’s Platform talks, Art Walks and the North Creek Farmers Market. “I hope all that we have going on will mesh well with one another,” said Depot Museum Director Michelle San Antonio. “The variation in events should increase the number of people that come into town on those evenings.” Organized by local car enthusiasts Scott Willoughby of Camp Garuda Art & Antiques and Lori Smith of Marsh’s Restaurant in North Creek, Cruise Nights took shape last year and has finally come to fruition. Cars and drivers from all over the region as well as spectators are invited to visit North Creek for an evening of “cruising.” Cruise Nights will run to the end of September, with a final cruise and car show Saturday, Oct. 2. “I think the Cruise Nights will serve to tie the Thursday nights together,” said Willoughby. “All the different events will at-
tract people with varying interest into North Creek.” Willoughby plans to bring his 1995 Morgan and 1963 Mini to Main Street and join in the evening. “I have been around old cars all of my life and appreciate the kind of following that they can generate,” said Willoughby. Local shops and restaurants will be running specials during Cruise Nights and live music will be featured at Trappers and Cafe Sarah. Attendants will also have the opportunity to vote on the most popular car of the evening and a trophy will be awarded each week at 8 p.m. Cruise Nights will also serve to benefit local organizations and charities. “We appreciate the opportunity to raise some money while getting people onto Main Street,” Smith said. Canned food goods will be collected to benefit the North Country Food Pantry and a 50/50 raffle will benefit local organizations. “We are just starting out and hope to have a great weekly summer community event,” said Willoughby. “During this first season, we need as much support as we can get.” For more information on this event, visit their Facebook page called Cruise Nights in North Creek, or e-mail cruisenightnorthcreek@gmail.com.

Nothing less than Broadway quality could describe the Memorial Weekend USO Show performed Saturday, May 29 at the Indian Lake Theater, and Monday, May 31 at the Woods Inn in Inlet, according to Deborah Jones. Accompanied by the piano mastery of N. David Williams, Colleen Nerney's trumpet, and the perfect harmony and boundless energy of Anton Briones, Louise Gassman, and Eric Shorey, it felt as though this troupe had been playing forever. Complete with patriotic music and 1940's standards, tap and ballroom dance, jokes, quips, this group of performers brought all the glitz, glamour, and professionalism one would expect from a Broadway show. New Adirondack Attic book highlights Johnsburg area history SARANAC LAKE — Hungry Bear Publishing this week released its sixth volume in the “Adirondack Attic” book series, highlighting dozens of artifacts from the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake including some stories about Johnsburg area history. Author Andy Flynn, of Saranac Lake tells 53 more stories about the museum’s collection in “New York State’s Mountain Heritage: Adirondack Attic, Volume 6,” bringing the story count to more than 300 for the sixvolume series that began in 2004. Stories, and artifacts, come from all over the Adirondack North Country Region of New York State. Four stories in Adirondack Attic 6 highlight history from the Johnsburg area: a maple sap tank; a crazy quilt; a needlepoint sampler from 1833; and an ensilage cutter. Maple sap tank: The museum’s maple sap tank is made of wood and iron. Dating to between 1900 and 1940, it was used on the Bennett Farm in North River. Kenneth Bennett donated the object to the museum in Nov. 1965 as part of the Edwin Bennett estate. A trap door

was opened at the top to pour in the sap from the buckets. Crazy quilt: When Mary Church Holland’s first child died, she was in emotional agony. On the advice of her doctor, who told her to “keep busy,” she made an awardwinning crazy quilt. That was 1887-88. Mamie, as she was known, lived in the hamlet of North River as a school teacher and an artist, and the men in her family worked at Hooper ’s Garnet Mines. The crazy quilt won prizes at a number of state fairs, but it
was never used as an actual coverlet. Mamie later had three more children: Lynn, Vera and Lyle Holland. Needlepoint sampler: The sampler reads, “Deborah M Noble was born Oct. 22 1824 and in 1833 made this, aged 8 years, under the tuition of Eleanor Noble.” David Noble, a Wesleyan Methodist minister from Ireland, moved to America in 1795, arriving in the Johnsburg area in 1800 at a place that would become known as the hamlet of Noble’s Corners. Noble’s son and daughter-inlaw, Archibald and Margaret Noble, were Deborah Noble’s parents and are listed on the top of her linen needlepoint sampler above the names of her five siblings. Ensilage cutter: Jean Vetter, of Chestertown, donated the ensilage cutter to the Adirondack Museum in July 1970. Vetter ’s father, Christian Albert Jacob Jr., probably used the ensilage cutter on the family farm, Bonnie Belle Farm, in the town of Chester. In 1905, Vetter ’s grandfather, Christian Albert Jacob Sr., bought property on Loon Lake near the hamlet of Chestertown, including a 20-

Free Adult Immunizations Available The Hamilton County Public Health Nursing Service is pleased to announce the availability of Free Immunizations for adults residing within Hamilton County. This vaccine has been made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The supply of vaccine is limited and will be administered on a first come first serve basis. There are no income eligibility or insurance requirements. Call 518-648-6497 HPV – Human Papillomavirus Vaccine is currently available. HPV is a common virus that is easily spread by skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity with another person. It is possible to have HPV without knowing it. HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer in woman as well as genital warts in men and women. This supply of vaccine is being offered to young men and women, 19 – 26 years of age, who have not received 3 doses of this vaccine. Pneumococcal Polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV) - Pneumococcal disease is caused by bacteria. It is the leading cause of vaccine-preventable illness and death in the United States. Anyone can get pneumococcal disease, but some people are at greater risk than others such as people 65 years and older, the very young, individuals with certain health problems, ones with weaken immune system or smokers. Usually only one dose of the vaccine is needed, but under some circumstances a second dose may be given on a physician’s recommendation. T-DAP - Children 6 years of age and younger are routinely vaccinated against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. But older children, adolescents, and adults need protection from these diseases too. Td (Tetanus, Diphtheria) and Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) vaccines provide that protection. TETANUS (Lockjaw) causes painful muscle spasms, usually all over the body. It can lead to tightening of the jaw muscles so the victim cannot open his mouth or swallow. Tetanus kills about 1 out of 5 people who are infected. DIPHTHERIA causes a thick covering in the back of the throat. It can lead to breathing problems, paralysis, heart failure, and even death. PERTUSSIS (Whooping Cough) causes severe coughing spells, vomiting, and disturbed sleep. • It can lead to weight loss, incontinence, rib fractures and passing out from violent coughing. Up to 2 in 100 adolescents and 5 in 100 adults with Pertussis are hospitalized or have complications, including pneumonia. These three diseases are all caused by bacteria. Diphtheria and Pertussis are spread from person to person. Tetanus enters the body through cuts, scratches, or wounds. It is recommended that adults receive at least one booster of T-Dap. Please call to discuss your eligibility for this immunization with a nurse.

M
emorial Day seemed to be very hazy and had the smell of a very early barbecue. We found out later that the haze was coming from a bad forest fire in Canada. News Fred and Ruth Allen took Earl Allen out on Monday evening to Red Lobster for Earl's birthday. They had a nice evening. There are lots of bikes in the area for Americade. Even though is started out with some heavy rains, we hope they will have a good week. Many young people went to Lake Pleasant to help clean at Camp-of-the-Woods to get ready for the summer. They enjoyed working hard and had some great food. There was a chocolate banquet at the Wesleyan Church in Bakers Mills on Saturday. Many ladies gathered for chocolates, food, fun, prizes and a celebration of life. The guest speaker was Janet Trombley. She told the amazing story about a 40 year search for her son. The second of the Mayberry RFD bible study series was held Sunday evening at the Sodom Community Church. Ryan and Keisha Sprague, Khaleah and Yanden Cleveland and Kjerstia Schilinski enjoyed lunch at Friendly's on Saturday. Deaths We are again saddened over the deaths in our area. Sorry to hear about the death of Lucille Cameron and Polly Shepherd. Happy Birthday Willie Allen, Katie Allen, Bud Dunkley, Amanda Dalaba, Nancy Studnicky, Alice Zahniser (92), Robin Wolper, Tim Allen, Julie Allen and Gregory Wilkerson. Happy Anniversary Erwin and Verna Bradway, Bob and Ruth Lehrer, and Shane and Suzanne Whitney. Enjoy each and every day.
Johnsburg Goes to War: 1861-1865 I
t was Mathew Brady who first brought home the horror of the Civil War to the folks back home. In 1862 he shocked America by displaying photographs of dead soldiers at Antietam where they had fallen and before the battlefield had been cleaned up. Known primarily as a photographer of famous men, in 1856 he opened a studio in Washington DC to better photograph the nation’s leaders. He became one of the first photographers to use photography to chronicle national history. As the war broke out, he turned his attention to documenting the war and organized a corp of travelling photographers to cover it. Hearing of the battle at Antietam, just 70 miles from the capital, he rushed to the battlefield. His friends tried to discourage him, citing battlefield dangers and the financial risks. But, Brady persisted and later said that, “I had to go. A spirit in my feet said ‘Go’ and I went.” One of Brady’s most famous photographs is of Abraham Lincoln with whom he was on a first name basis. It was taken on Feb. 9, 1864 and was on the old $5 bill until 2008 when a re-designed $5 was released, which features a different photograph of Lincoln taken by Brady taken on that same day. In my book “Echoes in These Mountains” I concluded that Mathew Brady was born in Johnsburg, about one mile south of Wevertown. Depressed by his financial situation, loss of eyesight, and devastated by the death of his wife, Brady died in the charity ward of Presbyterian Hospital in New York City in 1896 at age 73. Penniless at the time of his death, his funeral was paid for by veterans of the 7th NY Volunteer Infantry. In preparation for my future talk “Johnsburg Goes to War”, I’d very much welcome hearing from you if you have any information on the soldiers listed below, all buried by the Johnsburg Methodist Church on South Johnsburg Road, or any soldiers listed in my earlier columns. ell, it is time to plant our tender plants. It is usually safe to plant everything after Memorial Day. Usually, but then again, we live in the Adirondacks. Dorothy Swensen helped me plant the butterfly garden and the flowering trees on Wednesday. Dorothy is our garden angel. She and her husband Jeff own the Valhaus so they live close and can keep an eye on everything. They recently donated a shelf for the garden shed and organized all of our stuff in there. What is especially nice is their By Ski Bowl Park Gardening Group watchful eye and all of the watering that they do. Evelyn Green donated some red dahlias that Dorothy planted around the fence. Come fall, the dahlias will be a big splash of color next to the phlox. The irises are in bloom and the peonies are about to pop. We have had our first rose in the rose garden and there are some pretty blue things along with some bright red dianthus in the red, white and blue garden done by local 4Hers near the flag. Come enjoy a quiet swing on the cedar swing at the Ski

Wildcats win two more
Lake Placid rally stuns Orange By Matt Bosley matt@denpubs.com LAKE PLACID — Indian Lake/Long Lake had seemed in control through much of the game, but a late-game rally by the Blue Bombers allowed them to grab a 5-4 win and end the Orange’s season in the Section VII Class D softball semifinals June 2. Kaylie Miller struck out five and walked none, retiring the side through the first three innings as the Orange took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with sacrifice RBIs by both her and Carli Reynolds. “We knew Lake Placid was a very good hitting team,” said Indian Lake/Long Lake head coach Dave Olbert. “I thought we would need at least seven or eight hits to beat them, but I was very impressed with our pitching and our excellent defense.” Still, the Blue Bombers would not be denied for long. Chelsea Preston got Lake Placid’s first hit to lead off the fourth, stole second, then slid home on an RBI single by Danielle Balestrini. “It took a little bit to get our bats going,” said Lake Placid head coach Donna Moody. “Once we got runners on, it was a matter of time before we scored.” Preston got another hit to lead off the sixth and was batted in by a bunt single from Balestrini. With two outs, Morgan Caudill singled and an infield pop fly from Jenna McGreevy was dropped, allowing two more runners to score. Ayla Thompson drove in a fifth run before the inning ended. Indian/Long Lake nearly found the answer in the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, Allison Pine drove in two runs with a single, but Lake Placid nabbed the final out to advance to the final. Reynolds had two of the Orange’s four hits and Murphy Farrell added one. Both Reynolds and Pine got to base three out of four times up. Winning pitcher Mackenzie Kemmerer struck out five and walked nine.

Also adding hits were Mark Cleveland, Andrew Sponable and Trevor McKinney. Beswick, Davis, Dawson West and Mike Wilson played well on the defensive side of the field. On June 7, Gore beat Curtin Lumber of Warrensburg scoring 22 runs on 24 hits with nine doubles, three triples and two home runs all in only four innings. Many had good days with the bat. Connelly was 4-for-4 with a double, a homerun, four runs and three RBIs. Brandon Tyrel was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, four runs, four RBIs and three steals. Cleveland was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a homerun, two runs and four
RBIs. Wood was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Dalton Stevens was 2-for-2 with two doubles, a run and one RBI. Sponable was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs and three RBIs. Donohue was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs. McKinney added a triple and West had a single. Pitching for Gore were 10 year olds Davis and Wood. They both pitched well. During this past week Gore pitcher Sponable hit a career milestone striking out his 100th batter. Gore is now 9 - 0 on the season and has now won 28 regular season games in a row.

The Wildcats played the Lucky Star twice this week and came out on top in both games. In game one, Makayla Denno and Astasia Myler shared the time on the mound. Denno received her 4th win of the season. She also hit two homeruns to help out the Wildcats. One of the homeruns was out of the park. She is the first girl to do this in two years of youth softball. Emily Persons and Gillian Hayden added great defensive plays to help the Wildcats to their victory, 15-5. In game two, the Wildcats clinched the win again, 15-7. Rebekah Harvey, Denno and Myler pitched for the Wildcats and did a great job. Denno had six strike-outs in her three innings pitched and Myler pitched two scoreless innings to finish out the game. Harvey, Sabrina Roberts, and Persons each had two hits. Denno hit her 5th homerun of the season and added three more RBIs. Myler also added three RBIs for the Wildcats bringing her to 27 RBIs for the season. As the regular season is wrapping up, the Wildcats are continuing to have success. They will be playing in a single elimination tournament beginning on Wednesday, June 16th at 6pm at Ski Bowl Park in North Creek. There will be a concession stand with food and drinks, so come out, eat dinner and watch the Wildcats work toward another victory. Wildcats Softball would like to formally thank the following local businesses for their generous donations; Whitewater Challengers, The Copperfield Inn, Cafe Sarah, The North Creek Deli and Marketplace, Christine's Salon and Braley and Noxon Hardware. These businesses are making it possible for the Wildcats to conduct a raffle to raise money for their team.

SATURDAY June 12, 2010
This is the second year that Newcomb has hosted a group of Russian educators through Open World and Newcomb officlas anticipate a growing relationship. Teachers and students in Newcomb are still in contact with last year ’s group. The educators spent one week in Newcomb and were also exposed to other cultural events in the region. They were thankful for their hosts families and their meals provided by the Newcomb Lions Club and Methodist Church. “These communities are great and we wish we could have stayed longer,” said Elena Razenho. For more information on the Open World program, visit www.openworld.gov.
From page 1 bridge between the two countries through education,” said facilitator Evgeniya Leonovitvh. Local students had the opportunity to interact with the educators and ask their questions regarding an education system from across the world. Students were very interested in the length of the school days and vacations, sports opportunities and what Russian students read, according to Leonovitvh. “We have experienced that students everywhere are the same regardless of race, language or citizenship,” said Olga Kravchuk. “They are the same in spirit and heart.” Newcomb Central School Superintendent, Skip Hults, commented on the benefits for both countries of exploring new educational systems. “Seeing the difference between a completely federalized education system and the localized ones that we have here was eye-opening,” he said. “We were very surprised by the variation.” Students and teachers alike at Newcomb were surprised by both the stark differences and the similarities between the two countries, such as similar geographies. The biggest surprise, according to Hults, for many was the absence of budgets in the Russian system. “Money is such a big deal here and it’s not even a part of their system,” he said. Hults also appreciated the opportunity for local students to have a first-hand opportunity to experience pieces of the Russian culture. “I am a child of the Cold War and I think many of the stereotypes of that time are still present in the United States,” said Hults. “We met Russian citizens with warm hearts who are always smiling, this week.”

An outpouring of support To the News Enterprise: I recently came across last years acknowledgement of support during the holidays and was reminded that until then I had never known that such a versatile group of individuals, organizations, and churches could provide such a limitless amount of support in order to help out their fellow neighbors. Well, after the 2009/2010 holiday and winter season I have to take that back. Just when I thought Hamilton County residents and others with some connection to the area couldn’t be anymore selfless I was proven wrong. We received so many donations in the form of food, toiletries, paper products, gift cards, clothing, hats, mittens, scarves, socks, underwear, citrus fruits, cookies, shoes, boots, baby supplies and cash assistance that I’m finally reaching the end of my list of thank you notes. Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming support I must apologize if I failed to personally mention your name, organization, or church, make note of a particular contribution, or failed to send a personal thank you note or letter. In no way is this an indication that your donation wasn’t ap-

To the News Enterprise: We are all grateful to the News Enterprise for providing objective, on-going coverage of our School Budget and Contingency Budget issues. It has been valuable, and we hope it will continue. We would like, at this point, to add our thoughts regarding the May 24 board meeting at which the contingency budget was approved by a school board that appears increasingly disconnected from the community that elected its members to office. The only thing crystal clear about its approval decision is that it thereby opted to disregard the clearly expressed wishes of the voters of the Johnsburg Central School District (JCSD). The board evidently decided they had better things to do than listen to the voters and get serious about cutting significant fat out of JCSD expenditures. In an exercise that calls to mind a mountain giving birth to a mouse, the board managed to carve all of $7,570 out of the $10,069,985 budget the voters had rejected a week earlier. That constitutes a reduction of seventy five thousandths of one percent. You would need a microscope to find it. In other words, by approving the contingency budget, the board showed its disdain for school district voters. It evidently expects them to discourage easily, and be sound asleep by the time the next opportunity to vote rolls around. But, things might just be different this time, because the voters are aroused, they are seriously upset, they know they are right to be upset and the board is powerless to control their vote. Moreover, the district voters now have a growing and active grass roots organization in the form of the JCS Citizens Budget Committee as a firm and faithful alliance. Of course, the board's expectation will be proven right or wrong depending on JCSD voters' willingness to stay the course; willingness to keep informed, remain engaged, make their views known on critical issues (teacher and labor contracts before they're signed), and then come out and vote in disciplined fashion not only on future budgets but also for new school board members who will listen to them and act accordingly. The JCS Citizens Budget Committee has solemnly covenanted with the voters that we will continue to work towards these ends, and voters will shortly be hearing from us on next steps being taken, and how we'll be organizing for them. Working together we can surely clean out the stable.

Some thoughts on contingency budget
preciated or put to great use. Truthfully, there is just so much one person can remember or keep up with while continuing to meet the current needs of others. We often forget that once the holidays and cold weather go away crisis situations among families don’t just disappear. Therefore, as long as we continue to receive donations and support from outside sources Community Action can continue to provide assistance to those in need. So, please accept this thank you and in no way did I purposely overlook anyone.

SATURDAY June 12, 2010 the ones that are left have higher survival rates.” The researchers also conceded that the practice of catch and release fishing might significantly reduce any negative impact of fishing off bass nests during the spawn.
Bassin’s biggest mistakes
Bass: Not really a thing of beauty
T
here is a famous quote attributed to an old Montana flyfishing guide which goes something like: “Trout don’t live in no ugly places.” While trout waters almost always seem to possess a high degree of water clarity, scenic beauty and cool temperatures, the opposite holds true for bass. Bass live and thrive in some of the ugliest waters known to man. When I think of bass waters, descriptive terms such as dark, murky, warm, weedy and nasty come to mind. After all, bass are a warm water species renowned for seeking structure. Structure is an accepted euphemism for “lots of crap in the water to get snagged on.” It’s bass crap, the old pilings, thick weeds, downed trees, roots and stumps, rocky shoals, cribbing or anything that has sunk to the bottom of a lake. Find it and you’ll likely find bass. Bass remain the most popular game fish in the country, pursued by the common man. They are also the most widely distributed fish species in the United States, which now shares the World Record for bass with Japan, of all places. Bass go hand in hand with Skoal, Budweiser and NASCAR. In fact, I’ve been told that bass fishermen are really just off-season snowmobilers that couldn’t get tickets to NASCAR. We’re not talking about speckled beauties or iridescent rainbows that fall prey to tiny flies cast on delicate leaders and fine tippets. We’re talking about hogs, big ol' bucket-mouthed, tackle bustin’ monsters with a bad attitude, dude! Bass are the type of fish that require a baitcasting reel
spooled with Razor Wire, attached to a rod so stiff it could be used for a pry bar in a pinch. Bass can be fished from shore with a simple minnow and a bobber or out of a sparkling bass boat that goes 75 mph and is decked out with a collection of angling gizmos that cost more than my house. In the Adirondacks, bass are possibly the most overlooked of all our angling resources. Bass inhabit more waters than trout, hey are easy to catch, great to fight and make a fine meal. They are simply a fun and entertaining species. Although bass season doesn’t officially open until the third Saturday in June, in New York, the species can now be taken year ‘round, on a catch and release basis. And while there have been claims that taking bass off their spawn beds harms the population, recent research proves otherwise. A University of Florida (UF) study, published in Transactions of the American Fisheries Society magazine, indicates otherwise. “We found that in most cases, spawning area closures won’t improve bass populations,” explained co-author Mike Allen, a fisheries professor with UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. “If you lose some nests,
Whether practicing catch and release or catch and eat, anglers should be aware of the most common mistakes of bass fishing. Possibly the most common error is an ill prepared fishing outfit. Anglers should check rod guides for nicks and abrasions, oil the reel and set the drag properly as bass are one of the most unforgiving of all freshwater game fish and consistently challenge both the angler ’s skill and the quality of their equipment. Always start the new season by respooling with fresh line, and check the line’s expiration date before purchasing it. Another common error is a lack of patience, casting and retrieving too fast. Remember, occasionally bass must to be coaxed into taking your bait, give them time. Give the lure or bait action. Bass are a major predator and must be induced to attack. If you aren’t getting strikes, change the retrieve, faster, slower, twitchy or steady, until you find out how they want it. Stay in the game! Don’t let a lull in the action break your concentration. Fish hard from the beginning to the end, and don’t take a break while you still have a rod in your hand. Fish like you mean it or go home! Set the hook slow, but set it hard! Most anglers don’t realize that bass do not strike a lure fished below the surface in the same manner they take a lure on the surface. Below the surface, bass will approach a lure or worm and inhale it. They accomplish this by flaring their gills and suck in the offering along with nearly two gallons of water. Bass don’t strike sub-surface; they inhale. Anglers using rubber soft baits should recognize this behavior and lower their rod tip on the first indication of a take. A brief pause before setting the hook will almost always result in a hook-up, while an instant set usually takes the bait out of their mouth. Effect of Filing: All persons having or claiming to have an interest in the real property described in this Petition are hereby notified that the filing of this Petition constitutes the commencement by the Tax District of a proceeding in the Supreme Court of Warren County to foreclose each of the tax liens therein described by a foreclosure proceeding in rem. Nature of Proceeding: This proceeding is brought against the real property only and is to foreclose the tax liens to the extent the same exist on the parcels described in Schedule “A” of this Petition. No personal judgment will be entered herein for such taxes or other legal charges or any part thereof. Persons Affected: This Notice is directed to all persons owning or having or claiming to have an interest in the real property described in this Petition. Such interest is evident from the exhibits attached to this Petition and Notice of Foreclosure. Such persons are hereby notified further that a duplicate of this Petition and Notice of Foreclosure has been filed in the Office of the Enforcing Officer of the Tax District and will remain available for public inspection up to and including the date specified below as the last day for redemption. Right of Redemption: Any person having or claiming to have an interest in any such real property and the legal right thereto may on or before said date, redeem the same by paying the amount of all such unpaid tax liens thereon, including all interest and penalties and other legal charges which are included in the lien against such real property, computed to and including the date of redemption. Such payments shall be made to Francis X. O’Keefe, Warren County Treasurer, Warren County Municipal Center, 1340 State Route 9, Lake George, New York 12845. In the event that such taxes are paid by a person other than the record owner of such real property, the person so paying shall be entitled to have the tax liens affected thereby satisfied of record, but title to the property will not be otherwise affected. Last Day for Redemption: The last day for redemption is hereby fixed as the 20th day of August, 2010. Service of Answer: Every person having any rights, title or interest in or lien upon any parcel of real property described in this Petition may serve a duly verified answer upon the attorney for the Tax District setting forth in detail the nature and amount of his or her interest and any defense or objection to the foreclosure. Such Answer must be filed in the Office of the Warren County Clerk and served upon the attorney for the Tax District on or before the date abovementioned as the last day for redemption. Failure to Redeem or Answer: In the event of failure to redeem or answer by any person having the right to redeem or answer, such person shall be forever barred and foreclosed of all his or her right, title and interest and equity of redemption in and to the parcel described in this Petition and Notice of Foreclosure and a Judgment in foreclosure may be taken by default.
