Ti eyes economic growth Ticonderoga board creates development corporation By Fred Herbst fred@denpubs.com

TICONDEROGA — Alex Levitch has high hopes for Ticonderoga. So does the town board.

As a result, the community now has a local development corporation. “This is something we’ve studied for a while,” Supervisor Deb Malaney said. “As we moved forward it became more and more clear that the LDC is the way to go.” The Ticonderoga Local Development Corporation was formally created at the April 8 town board meeting. A LDC is an independent, self-sustained, legal

entity charged with economic revitalization. Governed by a board of directors, who will be appointed by the town board, the LDC will seek to match entrepreneurs and investors. “The bottom line is economic development, job creation and encouraging business to come to Ticonderoga,” Malaney said. “We have years and years of studies, demographics and strategic plans,” she added. “We

was handed the keys. Under her leadership it has become a thriving historical experience with a growing visitation. Fort Dobbs is also a French & Indian War site and Hill has been immersed in all the day-to-day business aspects as well as the educational, interpretive, and fundraising efforts. “Fort Ticonderoga is America’s fort,” Hill said. “We are going to make it as authentic, diverse, relevant and engaging as possible to bring the fort back to prominence.”

CROWN POINT — Crown Point officials are working with the community’s cable television provider to create a public access TV channel for the town. “An attempt to bring a public access channel to Crown Point with Time Warner Cable is an ongoing discussion,” Supervisor Bethany Kosmider said. Crown Point has never had a public access channel, although it has recently started sharing time on the Moriah station. “According to federal law and the contract with Time Warner, it is apparent that Crown Point has to be provided with their own channel,” Kosmider said. “Ongoing discussion has netted no progress.” The supervisor noted Time Warner ’s cable television franchise agreement with Crown Point expires in 2013. A local public access channel will be part of any talks in extending that pact, she noted. “Crown Point’s best interest will be kept at the forefront of these negotiations,” Kosmider said. A local public access channel is a priority for Kosmider, who took office Jan. 1 with a commitment to open government. The Crown Point board has decided to tape its meetings and air

People with information should call the Ticonderoga Police Department at 585-2205 or the local crime tip line at 585-3080. Morette was killed Dec. 2, 2009, when he was struck by a vehicle while running near the intersection of Shore Airport Road and Route 22 in Ticonderoga. Initially police thought Morette may have been struck by a large truck, although those leads have not led police to any conclusion. Morette was an electrician known for his volunteer efforts in the community. He was also a dedicated runner and was a regular sight on Ticonderoga streets early each morning.

By Fred Herbst fred@denpubs.com TICONDEROGA — Anthony “A.T.” Morette loved Mt. Defiance. The avid runner included the peak on his daily jaunts and for years was known as its caretaker. Morette, who was killed last December by a hit-and-run driver while running, will be honored Saturday, May 8, when a plaque acknowledging his volunteer efforts will be dedicated atop Mt. Defiance. The ceremony will take place at about 1:30 p.m., following his 1 p.m. burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Bob Dedrick, former Ticonderoga supervisor, is coordinating the dedication. “We are holding a dedication ceremony in his honor at the top of Mt. Defiance where we will unveil his plaque,” Dedrick said. “So many peo-

Traffic stop leads to arrest A routine traffic checkpoint here netted nearly 75 pounds of marijuana and landed two women behind bars. According to a press release, at about 10:40 a.m. Ticonderoga Police officers, with New York State Police, were conducting safety checkpoints when an approaching vehicle made a sudden U-turn. After Ticonderoga Police officers pursued the vehicle for about two miles it was stopped. A search of the vehicle found 74.9 pounds of marijuana vacuum-sealed and packed into two duffel bags, police said. The marijuana has a street value of $250,000. The driver, Kelsey Jackson, 22, of Akwesasne, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana. She was also charged with the traffic offenses of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, improper U-turn, insufficient turn signal and failure to comply with an emergency vehicle. The passenger, Sheyenne Smoke, 21, of Hogansburg was charged with first degree criminal possession of marijuana. Both defendants were arraigned in front of Town Justice

According to police, preliminary investigations indicate the marijuana was not for local sale. Mineville woman charged Tina M. Discuillo, age 45, of Mineville was arrested April 26 for two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance third degree, and four counts of fraud and deceit of the New York State Public Health Law. The arrested was executed by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Lewis along with Investigator Frederick Boettcher of the New York State Department of Health. The investigation determined in late 2009, Discuillo had two different medical doctors in Elizabethtown provide her prescriptions for controlled substances within 10 days of each other. Discuillo then had the prescriptions filled in Keeseville. Discuillo was arraigned before Moriah Town Justice Brian Venne and remanded to the Essex County Jail in lieu $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.

Hague firefighters face radio change To the Times of Ti: At the March meeting of our board of directors it was learned that the Warren County Fire District will be changing radio frequencies to narrow band. This means that radios on all apparatus and ambulances as well as hand held units and pagers will all have to be replaced by August 1. This was not pre-advised, not pre-planned and, of course, not budgeted. It remains to be seen if any funding will be made available to assist with this financial burden now facing many small volunteer departments. We doubt it. We do hope as usual, that

you remember this article when our few fund raising efforts come up through the year. There are Fire Police classes scheduled for May and June and three members are beginning Fire Fighter 1 training. In March there were no fire calls and one EMS call using 2 man hours. That is very unusual. Hope there are

many more. As always, we welcome new members, either at the supportive level or to train as fire police, firemen or EMTs. We meet every first Monday. If you have any questions, ask a member. Bikers should be cautious of loose sand and gravel, especially on side roads and at intersections. In some towns the roads haven't been swept yet. Watch out for careless drivers! Reflections Reflections

by Joan Daby, Historian

Life in Port Henry By Joan Daby The following are letters written by Ellen D. Witherbee Atwell in 1899 and 1900 to her nephew Tyler Reed Woodbridge of Victor, Colo. She was age 64 at that time. She tells of her family life, traditions, and some facts of history relating to the Witherbee family, handed down by her parents and grandparents, written at Port Henry. The nephew typed these up in 1900 and inserted some comments. These letters were sent to me from Bill Knowlton of Liverpool in 2002. Ellen Atwell was his great aunt. “It could be spun fine enough to pass a knot of it through a finger ring, which was considered a great accomplishment. They made very durable table linen, towels, sheets, pillow cases, and wearing apparel. My grandmother made her wedding dress of cotton, spinning and weaving it herself, and as it was not common, it was considered very nice. Grandmother kept house till her children left her. Then she made her home with a son in Albany, making her other children long visits. She was a very bright woman, fond of reading - not novels but more solid reading. She read the Bible through by courses several times. It was used as a Reader in school. She traveled quite extensively for those days, going as far as Michigan in Packets and Stage Coaches, for this was before the days of Steamers or Railroads. It was not very rapid traveling - the passengers could get off and walk if they were tired of riding. The Packet was drawn by horses and it took several days to go from Albany to Buffalo. She had a traveling basket with two lids and it contained a variety of articles. She did fancy work nicely. She was a small black-eyed woman, and rather stern in manner. We stood in awe of her as she

never noticed us by playing with us. But I have the greatest respect for her. She was a Universalist in sentiment, as were many of her children.” Second Letter: “Mother lived in Dorchester with an aunt. While there she walked into Boston to see three pirates hung! When she was eighteen she went to Bridport, Vermont, to live with an uncle. She traveled in a stage coach, stopping overnight at Inns which were conveniently placed for the accommodation of the coaches, and where they changed horses, as they were several days on their journey. People sometimes carried their own provisions and they were allowed to make their tea and boil their eggs in the Inn kitchen. I have been told that Mother was very beautiful and much admired. As she had two offers of marriage besides Father ’s while in Bridport. I think there was some truth in the statement. (A better proof of that is the beauty of her daughters, which is of the kind that never fades. Note by the editor). One of them was worth $2,000 - a fortune in those days. But she chose Father who had very little in comparison. He had only a trade, which every young man was expected to have unless he was a farmer. He learned the trade of Tanner and Currier. His father bought the Tannery in Crown Point Center for him. They were married quite young - he was 22 and she was 20. Mother ’s wedding dress was a blue and red changeable silk - a beautiful color. She had blue slippers which were tied on with ribbons, crossed over the foot, and tied around the ankles. She also wore a cap, and ever after wore one for dress occasions. ” Joan Daby is town of Moriah historian.

Ticonderoga school taxes need to be cut no longer a teacher but the C.E.O.of the entire school district with responsibilities not only to students, to staff and for programs, etc., but also to the taxpayers who look to him to plan ahead to curtail or eliminate tax increases year after year.

To the Times of Ti: On April 26 the Ticonderoga Central School superintendent presented the 2010-2011 school budget at a public meeting in Hague. His presentation was well received and his affable manner resulted in a polite round of applause by some of the audience. Whether this sign of approval was intended for the presenter or was an indication of approval of the proposed school budget or both it’s not clear. However, the reality is that school taxes are increasing by 8.87 percent. That there is another tax increase is a failure of leadership by the school board, and a failure of leadership by the school administration. It’s a failure because they failed to plan and

failed to anticipate the negative impact on the taxpayers of a four-year agreement with the teachers association with guaranteed yearly salary increases, guaranteed health insurance and a $ 23.8 million bond issue. The superintendent of schools is the chief executive officer of the school district and has general supervision and direction over all school district activities. He can make recommendations to the school board to reduce

spending. If you are serious about cutting spending, reductions must be made in the three major components of a school budget: salaries, health insurance and pensions. But to propose reductions in these areas would raise the ire of the teacher union. As a former member of that union, the school superintendent would have to confront his former colleagues in making those cuts which the union is sure to oppose. It’s understandable if he is reluctant to do this. But he is

Substance abuse and seniors When it comes to discussions about substance use, seniors are almost invisible. Some older people believe it is too late for them to make positive changes to improve their mental and physical health. For example, seniors who smoke may see no point in quitting or cutting back because they believe their health is already damaged. Some family members and service providers hold similar beliefs. They do not realize that seniors who make positive changes to their substance use patterns do in fact feel happier and healthier. Elderly people are often under-treated for mental health problems. Also, elderly people often have physical problems that may be confused with mental illness. Symptoms of depression displayed by older people may look different from those in younger people, making them difficult to recognize. Life as a senior can be very difficult. Elderly people often find themselves faced with many stresses coming at the same time. These may include: * a major illness * reduced mobility * retirement * deterioration or death of a spouse * a shrinking circle of friends Each of these stresses can increase the risk of a person becoming depressed. Deteriorating physical health can quickly change retirement into a period of confusion, fear and chronic pain. (Information taken from Caregiver Assistance News)

KEEPING AND STORING CANNED FOOD It is important to store ALL foods safely. The way you store foods can affect their shelf life and keep them safe for consumption. If you purchase extra canned foods to keep on hand for emergencies, remember: * Write the date of purchase (month and year) on the top of the can with permanent marker. Most items should be safe to eat within two years of this date but you probably want to use them sooner and replace with currently purchased cans of the same food. * Canned foods should be stored in dry conditions where the temperature remains between 68 degrees and 78 degrees. They should not be stored in a garage. * Stored cans should be checked periodically for dents, bulging, and signs of rust or leaks. Large dents can break the seal of a can, even if the seal looks intact. Bilging cans must be discarded immediately. * Never eat canned food that has a strange odor, color, or flavor, or that spurts when it is opened. * When in doubt, throw it out! It is not worth your life to be frugal.

Hospice plans benefit sale in Port Henry PORT HENRY — Donations are being sought for the second annual High Peaks Hospice Lawn Sale in Port Henry. The sale will be held Saturday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on South Main Street, across from the Port Henry train station. The event is being organized by Moriah Central School National Honor Society student Jarrah Jerdo as a fundraiser for High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care. High Peaks Hospice is a not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to providing compassionate in home end-of-life care to patients and their families. “Fundraising events such as this allow their services to be made available to anyone with a prognosis of six months or less, regardless of ability to pay,” Cheryl Olson of

hospice said. “Jarrah is hoping that the community will come out to generously support this worthwhile cause and she asks that when residents do their spring cleaning they don’t toss out unwanted items,” Olson said. “Instead she encourages people to let their trash become someone else’s treasure by contributing it to the success of this sale.” People can call 546-7093 to arrange for drop off or pick up of items. High Peaks Hospice serves patients and their families in all of Essex and Warren counties and portions of Franklin, St. Lawrence and Hamilton Counties. Services are available to anyone with a prognosis of six months or less, regardless of ability to pay.

Orchestra to perform By Fred Herbst fred@denpubs.com PORT HENRY — As a child, Matt Pray learned to love the music of Glenn Miller. Now, he hopes to pass that on to a new generation. The music teacher has arranged to bring to the famed Glenn Miller Orchestra to Moriah Central School Monday, May 10. “Growing up I had the privilege to listen to all sorts of music,” Pray said. “In high school our jazz band played the music of Glenn

Miller quite often. It was just plain fun music. I want it to inspire my students and encourage them to listen to all sorts of different genres of music.” The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform at the Moriah Central School auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are $16 and can be obtained from Pray by calling 546-3301 ext. 405. Opening the show at 6:50 p.m. will be the Adirondack Jazz Orchestra, a professional Big Band repertory ensemble based in Plattsburgh. Pray is its director and many of its members are

North Country music teachers. “I want to show my students that not only do we have world class musicians coming to our area, but that we also have great musicians who live and perform often in our area,” Pray said. “The Adirondack Jazz Orchestra will perform a short set while guests arrive and get seated.” Glenn Miller was a famous jazz musician of the World War II era. He disappeared en route to entertain troops in 1944.

The production of Blather, Blarney and Balderdash by Patrick Rainville Dorn will be presented May 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and May 16 at 2:30 p.m.at Moriah Central School. The play features more than 30 students from 6-12 grades. In this production three hilarious Irish folk and fairy tales collide when crazy leprechauns try to help a tongue-tied Fin O’Grady learn to tell a story and win the hand of his true love. In the process Fin discovers that a story is a treasure that increases the more you share it.

CROWN POINT — As a result of the Crown Point bridge closing, a new after school program has opened. Families in Crown Point, who have been the most affected by the bridge closing, will now have the opportunity to enroll their children in structured after school activities. Tara Treadway, the site supervisor for the program, feels this is a great opportunity for children to receive academic enrichment, positive social interaction and nutrition education that they wouldn’t normally have. The program provides daily activities for the children as well as time for physical activity. Marge Zmijewski,

Tara Treadway leads an activity designed for children to share their likes and interests on the first day of the ACAP after school program in Crown Point. Adirondack Community Action Program child care program manager, said the agency has been awarded funds through the state Office of Children and Family

Services to address the need for expanded day care as a result of the bridge closing. “It has been a community effort bringing this program to fruition. Parents, the

school and OCFS have come together to make this work and were excited to see it up and running.” Zmijewski said.

Anyone who wants to receive the newsletter can

Kosmider said public information and participation is a priority for the town board. The town board meets at 6 p.m. at the town hall on the second Thursday of each month.

Schroon Lake Central School students, from left, Amanda Barror, Sarah Garcia, Mindy Whitty and Chelsie Anslow stand outside Yankee Stadium during a school trip to New York City recently. Students toured the new ballpark, visited museum and saw a Broadway play.

SCHROON LAKE — The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce is seeking its 2010 citizen/organization of the year. The deadline to make a nomination is May 11. Established in 1976, the award honors an area resident or organization who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the quality of life in Schroon Lake. The chamber will honor the person or organization at its annual dinner in June. Nominations can be made by writing a letter to the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 726, Schroon Lake 12870. Call the chamber office at 532-7675 for more information. The chamber board of directors will select the citizen/organization of the year and will announce the winner May 18. “Your nomination letter should include the accomplishments for which this person or organization should be honored,” said Rosemarie Ritson of the chamber. “Details of the achievements, volunteer endeavors, personal characteristics, community support and efforts toward quality of life improvements will be considered. The nominee need not be a chamber of commerce member, but must reside in the town of Schroon, North Hudson, Paradox or Severance. “ Ed Donley was the 2009 Schroon Lake Citizen of the Year. Donley was selected as a “jack of all trades.”

22 - TIMES OF TI • TICONDEROGA

Ti From page 1 know who we are, what our strengths and weaknesses are. Now we need investment money.” Levitch, owner of Adirondack Camp in Putnam and a member of the Ti economic development committee, suggested the LDC. A former venture capitalist, Levitch believes the local economy is stagnant. “We trade with each other in a closed-loop system through dollar stores and pizza parlors for ever thinner slices of the same already-lean economic pie,” he told town trustees. “And in doing so we accelerate, potentially, a death spiral of one more American town as we force our educated young to leave early, while trapping our elderly to live here, many in or near poverty.” Levitch said tax breaks to low-wage employers does little to help the local economy. Ti needs good-paying jobs, he said. “Unfortunately, however, the town lacks the experience, dedicated personnel, board consensus representation, necessary operational and legal framework, and practical insulation from the political winds to get the

job done,” Levitch said. The LDC’s first step is to raise money to support itself. Absolutely no tax dollars will go to the LDC, Malaney stressed. She added some money has already been committed to the LDC. With money in hand, the LDC board will hire a director and staff to attract business. Levitch believes Ticonderoga can support new housing programs, industry, shopping centers and multiple-use buildings housing recreation, arts, commercial and residential activities. “Ti can, once again, we firmly believe, see a year-round infusion of new ideas, people and capital through a role it has yet to play as a tourist destination spot of significance, as well as becoming a nicer, middle class place to live and to work with rising rather than declining incomes and real estate values,” Levitch said. Malaney said the LDC will work along with existing agencies and programs, such as the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, PRIDE and the Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership. “This is an opportunity to bring all our economic development efforts under one umbrella with professional leadership,” Malaney said. “There’s no risk to the town. It’s certainly worth a try.”

SATURDAY May 8, 2010

Fort Ti From page 1 Hill plans to review the current event offerings and to add more interpretive experiences for the public. She sees the potential of yearround programming in the Mars Center and more regular 18th-century events. A new exhibit will be in place when the fort opens on May 20. “Pottery, Pork & Pigeons” is in the southeast corner of the Enlisted Men’s Barracks and is the culmination of over 16 years’ work by volunteer Frank Schlamp, Adjunct Assistant Curator of Archeology, and Chris Fox, Curator of Collection. Schlamp, who is a retired DEC officer, took on the task of cleaning, cataloguing, and restoring years’ worth of pottery shards and other small objects. The exhibit

highlights the huge variety of ceramics and utensils used by the soldiers in their daily lives at Fort Ticonderoga. The exhibit also explores what was available to them for food illustrates this with bones from pigs, deer and passenger pigeons. Also new on the schedule are two different tours based on the investigation by T.A.P.S. and seen on Ghost Hunters TV show. A nighttime tour for small groups will be available most Friday and Saturday nights in

July and August by reservation. It will take guests to areas of the Fort not open to the public and explore the reported paranormal activity. A daytime tour will be offered daily from the beginning of the season and will take guests to the more accessible areas where there have been reported sightings. The fort opens for the season on May 20 and The King’s Garden opens June 1.

Pre-peppered brook trout

Trout season heats up Mother ’s Day weekend, which typically signals the peak of spring brook trout angling opportunities, is still a week away. But if the most reliable, natural indicators are to be trusted; the peak of the season has already come and gone. While hiking into a favored backwoods pond over the weekend, the wildflowers were in bloom. A carpet of Trout Lilies was interspersed with the tall, and not so fragrant flowers of purple trilliums. Witchhobble, a common woodland shrub also known as buckbrush or cripplebrush, was also in bloom; with pods of white flowers adorning it’s tangled branches. According to the old adage, brook trout bite best when the “leaves of the buckbrush are the size of a mouse’s ear”. Unfortunately, they’re now nearly the size of a deer ’s ear. Experienced brook trout anglers, who recognize such familiar natural signs, are surprised by their early arrival, coming nearly two week’s ahead of usual. However, they shouldn’t be! Fiddlehead ferns are already unfurling and the blackflies have drawn their first blood. There is no doubt that this year ’s season has been accelerated. Despite last week’s brief return of winter weather, March Brown mayflies were hatching on the ponds and trout were slurping down a healthy hatch of Hendricksons on the streams.

Friends and guests alike often ask me about a cosmetic malady that is commonly found on many species of our local gamefish. As one old friend remarked, “It’s great to catch brook trout that are pre-peppered!” Despite appearances, the small, black spots found on the skin of species ranging from brook trout and yellow perch to bass and northern pike is actually a caused by a small immature larval parasite. The parasite, Apophallus brevis is also known as “Black grubs,” “Black spot disease,” or “Neascus infection parasite”. The malady can be found afflicting fish on many Adirondack waters, since the Common Loon is the parasite’s host and transmitter. Adult worms live in a loon’s mouth, where they produce eggs, which are swallowed by the loon and pass through its digestive system unharmed. The parasite’s eggs, released into the water with the loon’s feces, will mature and swim away to penetrate mollusks such as snails and occasionally clams, which are the first intermediate hosts. In the mollusks, the parasite matures and eventually migrates and penetrates into the tissues of the second intermediate host, which is most often a fish. Once in the tissues of a fish, the parasite causes obvious mechanical damage and hemorrhaging. While the damage

Here's a shot of a Purple trillium, a common woodland wildflower, are already in bloom. Also known as Stinking Benjamin, the blossoms have proven to be a reliable indicator of a spring brook trout fishing. caused is usually negligible, infestations in greater numbers may occasionally kill the host fish. Loons are a key component in the parasite’s life cycle, since the infected fish must be eaten by the final host to complete its lifecycle. Unfortunately, there is no practical treatment or control of the parasite at this time. It is important to note that the parasite does not infect humans, other mammals or birds, even though it can live for 4 years in a fish. In most trout species, the parasite rarely appears in the meat of the fish, and cooking the fish kills the parasites evident on the skin.

The small, black spots on the skin of this brook trout are the result of a parasite. The Black grubs, or Black spot disease, can be found in many different fish species in the Adirondacks.

Shirley Mae (Bomba) Ross Beach May 3, 1936- April 4, 2010 CROWN POINT — Shirley May (Bomba) Ross Beach, 73, of Crown Point, NY passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on the Sam Curran Rd in Crown Point on May 3, 1936, the daughter of Albert and Eva ( Courcey) Ross. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother and was the fifth youngest of 14 children. Family was her life. She loved spending time with them, and absolutely adored her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Bomba” and especially loved her great-grandchildren, who called her “G.G.” They will forever miss her. She loved baseball and was a NY Yankees fanatic. Her favorite pastime was camping. She lived for the opportunity to camp at Monitor Bay Park in Crown Point. She would camp from the first day of opening to the very last day of the season when they closed the park. Besides her parents, she was predeceased be her loving husband, Allen R. Beach, who passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1992; seven brothers Wesley, Ernset, Richard, Willis, Donald, Harold, and Arnold Ross and one sister Flora (Ross) Thatcher. Survivors include three children: a daughter Barbara Beach and her life companion Carry Fish Sr. of Ticonderoga; a son, Thomas Beach and his wife Penny of Crown Point; a daughter Julie Austin and her husband, Scott of Moriah; five grandchildren, Amber Nieves and her husband, Christian of Glens Falls, Michael Beach and his wife, Alyssa of Ticonderoga, Adam Hurlburt of Moriah, Anthony (Tony) Hurlburt of Crown Point, and Matthew Beach and his fiancee, Ashleigh Carpenter of Muncie, IN, and three great grandchildren, Isaiah and Isabelle Neives and Ethan Beach, three brothers, Jospeh Ross and his wife Vicky, Robert Ross and his wife Madeline, and Carl Ross and his wife Debra, two sisters Gloria Tubbs and Donna Spaulding and her husband, Tom; special sistersin-law Bernice Ross, Flavia Ross, Clara Ross, and Patty Ross, special angels; Carrie Hinds and Nicole (Ashe) Barnett, a special friend “daughter” Ann Taylor-Robinson of Lake George, and several nieces and nephews. “Bomba” was loved by all. A very special thank you from our family to the LaMoille Ambulance Service.

SATURDAY May 8, 2010

Friends and relatives celebrated Shirley’s life on Thursday April 8 at the Crown Point Bible Church on Creek Rd, in Crown Point, NY. Burial arrangements have been entrusted to Harland Funeral Home and will be at a later date. At her family’s request, any donations should be sent to your favorite charity in her name.

Paul D. Ezzo Dec. 31,1956 - April 29, 2010 TICONDEROGA — Paul D. Ezzo, 53, of Ticonderoga, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by family. Born in Ticonderoga, December 31,1956, he was the son of the late John W. and Florence (Taylor) Ezzo. Paul graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1975. He traveled around the country in his capacity of his chosen vocation, carpentry. During recent years, Paul worked near home in Silver Bay, NY and in the Ticonderoga area. He was considered a "Master Carpenter" due to his skills, especially in fine cabinet-making. Paul was also a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion. From the time Paul was a child, deer hunting with his father, and studying conservation in high school, he has been an avid outdoors-man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, sitting by a fire and good times with friends, or simply being in the outdoors during any season. Also, on any NASCAR race day, Paul could be found among friends, cheering on his favorite driver. Another hobby Paul excelled at was cooking. He was "famous" among family and friends for his pizza and zucchini bread. Few who did not know him would guess at his love for cooking. Often a man of few words, Paul had many friends. Most of these friendships were fostered from childhood to adulthood. He also made new friends quite readily. A kind and extremely generous soul, Paul was taken from us much too soon and will be sorely missed. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Florence and John W. Ezzo of Ticonderoga. Paul is survived by his two children, Kea Marie (Ezzo) Davie
