ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Root canal therapy, also known as "endodontics treatment is a popular form of root canal treatment. It is required when the nerve or blood supply of the tooth gets defected due to injury or decay. It is the process of removing dead pulp from your mouth.
Steps in Root Canal Treatment
Placing the rubber dam
Clearing up root canal infection
Filling the root canals
Final stage of a root canal
Placing the rubber dam A root canal usually takes 3-4 sittings. First, you have to go through dental xray to check the extent of damage. A rubber like sheet called dental dam is put to keep the tooth clean, protected and free of saliva. Using minor dental instruments, the infected pulp is excluded.
Clearing up the Root Canal infection After the infected pulp is removed, the pulp chamber and root canals are flushed and cleaned. The root canal is reshaped and enlarged to allow better access for filling it later. The tooth may be left open to drain for several days.
Filling the Root Canals Once done with cleaning and drying, it's time to fill the interior part of the tooth, the empty pulp chamber and root canals. A sealed paste and rubber compound is used to fill the tooth, followed by an adhesive filling to make sure that root canals are protected from saliva.
Final stage of a Root Canal The final stage of the root canal includes the restoring of the tooth. This is done by placing a crown, a realistic looking artificial tooth which is made of gold, porcelain or porcelain fused to metal.
