IMMEDIATE RELEASE PUBLIC ALERT - UNAUTHORIZED DOOR TO DOOR FUNDRAISING Solicitation is Not Approved by the Denver Rescue Mission Tuesday, May 24, 2011 (DENVER) – The Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) has been made aware of current door-to-door solicitations where individuals are claiming to be representatives for the Mission and are soliciting funds. Most recently, an individual showed up at a citizen’s house in a DRM shirt with papers showing a DRM logo. He stated that he was an authorized DRM volunteer canvasser going door-to-door requesting donations to benefit the homeless and hungry. In another instance, a citizen called DRM to report individuals going door-to-door on behalf of an outside company. They are asking citizens to purchase books that will be delivered to children helped in DRM programs. These are both examples of how DRM donors and citizens can fall victim to a solicitation scam when they believe they are helping those most in need in our community. The Denver Rescue Mission does not support, partner or benefit from any individuals or companies claiming to raise funds through door-to-door solicitations. A victim who supplies credit card, personal check or bank account numbers could also become a victim of identity theft. If you have any question of our involvement in a fundraising program, please contact us at 303-297-1815. These types of solicitations are also common with a magazine sale scam during door-todoor solicitations. This occurs when someone who claims to work for a magazine company promises a consumer a new magazine subscription or the renewal of a subscription at a very low price with a portion of the proceeds benefiting a local charity. Often the price is misrepresented or the magazine is never delivered. If you have any question of our involvement in a donation program, please contact us at 303-297-1815 or visit our website www.DenverRescueMission.org to view current fundraising campaigns and partners. ABOUT THE DENVER RESCUE MISSION Since 1892, the Denver Rescue Mission has been meeting the needs of the poor and homeless through emergency services, rehabilitation, transitional and permanent housing, and community outreach.
