AR CATHALOGUE OF
BULGARIAN MYTHOLOGY CREATURES
Have you heard about elves? Dragons? Mermaids? Yes?... What about karakondjuli? Samodivi? Talasami?
Bulgarian mythical creatures are not so popular, but there are endless stories about them and every region has its own unique characters. The aim of this project is to make those old forgotten creatures come alive with the help of digital media.
What I want to create A catalogue with illustrations of these little known Bulgarian mythological creatures. They come from the local folklore and vary across the different parts of the country. The aim of this project is to make a collection of all those rare species from every region. An augmented reality application will make those creatures come alive. When the the illustrations are seen using the app they will reveal 2D animations of the moving creatures running through the pages. The application will be created using Unity 3D and Vuforia, an AR plugin for Unity 3D.
Illustration: Viktor Paunov
What I have created until now I have already created an augmented reality application using Vuforia and Unity 3D during one of my Media Design classes, so I am going to use that knowledge for creating the app for this project. I have also created the first illustration concepts for some of the characters, you can see them on the next pages. I have created several animations to test how some of the creatures would look like when they are moving.

You can see some of the animation concepts here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/21236199/Kuker
They were initially created on a hackathon for computer games and they were adapted for Unity 3D. They can be further refined and more animations can be created for this project.
