KYLE BARRETT
LIGHTING MIDTERM COMM-493 PORTRAITURE PHOTOGRAPHY
SETTINGS Canon EOS 30D Canon EF-S 50mm f/1.8-22 1/250 f/7.1 ISO 320 AB800 through Apollo softbox MODEL: GOLDEN MADUME After doing some test shots, I decided to use the Alien Bee above Golden and put my ISO at a somewhat unconventional setting. I liked the original photo a lot, with full lighting and a good bit of contrast, but I decided to try my hand at layering a texture in on this one.

I also prefer the texture result I got in this one. For a first set of shots, I really like the outcome. Sort of vintage.

I tried to go for a little more contrast in these, and although the wrinkles in the backdrop show a little more than I originally wanted, I decided to keep them because they grew on me. I also shot with the Alien Bee at a little lower output on these.

At this point, I was a lot more comfortable with the setup we were using and I tried to go for some more dramatic shots. I bumped the Alien Bee up a lot in power, took the reflector away, and added in a Speedlite.

After some trial and error with the hair flps, it finally clicked with the adding of the Speedlite to backlight the hair a little more. I also pushed the envelope in my post processing more than I normally do, adding in some black and white tweaks and exposure offset adjustments (origianlly shot in color),
