Letter to potential student placements

DEPAUL IRELAND VOLUNTEER & STUDENT PLACEMENT PROGRAMME Dear potential student placement, Thank you for your interest in taking a student placement with Depaul Ireland in Dublin. The role of student placements and volunteers in each of our projects is vital to the work we do and we greatly appreciate your interest as well as your desire to contribute to our goals and give some of your free time to us. Please find enclosed some information about our projects, and a student placement application form to complete if you are interested in pursuing a student placement with us. Just a couple of things to think about when filling in the volunteer application form:

Please fill in your details in capital letters.

Education, work, voluntary, or life experience – These sections are just in the application as a way of getting to know you better. Please complete as much or as little as you would like to. Everyone has things to say about what they have done in their life: how they have helped family members of friends through difficult situations, brought up children, the list is endless. This is a space for you to tell us something about yourself so that we can start to get to know you.

Please don’t worry if you are not sure which project or role you would like to be placed in. We we can discuss it further.

Criminal disclosure checks – Please be aware that we conduct Garda Vetting before commencement of your placement. If your college or institute has commenced a Garda Vetting Application the letter must be sent directly from your college to us, otherwise we must commence a Garda Vetting Application ourselves. This process can take some time so please ensure that you ask us for a form to complete if you don’t have one. A criminal conviction will not necessarily prevent you from becoming a student place. We are not so interested in what you were once but what you are now and what you have to offer. If you would like to discuss this further then don’t hesitate to contact me.

References – We do require two references from you but we are aware that many people, at certain stages of their life find difficulty in finding two referees; for example retired people, self employed people, unemployed people etc. But if this is a problem for you just let me know and we can help.

So I hope that you don’t mind to take the few minutes to complete the forms. Once I have received your form, I will contact you with more information as we seek to fill new vacancies within our student placement team. Please note that our recruitment rounds are typically held one per season. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
