You play a huge part in bringing respect and dignity into the lives of our residents, a quality that can never be underestimated. Our plan is to produce a quarterly newsletter keeping you all up do date on all volunteering developments within Depaul Ireland. Because it is your newsletter, we hope that you as a volunteer, will contribute to it. So if there is anything that you would like to share with us in relation to your experience here or any other news story or event that you think people should know about, just contact us and we will endeavor to include it. We are aware that you don’t often get a chance to meet many of the other volunteers and may at times feel that you are the only volunteer but in fact you are part of a team of 156

DEPAUL IRELAND CELEBRATES UN INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY 2009 United Nations International Volunteer Day (IVD) takes place each year on December 5th and marks the valuable contribution that volunteers make to volunteer involving organisations. To celebrate the IVD 2009 Depaul Ireland took part in two events. The first event took place in the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin in association with Dublin City South Volunteer Centre. We welcomed our volunteers to come and join us for mulled wine as we thanked them for their valuable contribution during the year. The second event saw our European Voluntary Service (EVS) volunteers from Dublin and Belfast come together in Belfast on IVD and volunteer their time to the Participate event which was organised as part of Northern Ireland’s Homeless Awareness Week. A variety of workshops including tshirt printing, model making, and face painting were facilitated by our EVS volunteers during the day. Later that night a thank you meal was organised for the volunteers. Many thanks to all involved and thanks to Jenny Groves for facilitating our participation in the day.
