Spring Things

April things you will want to do before the riding season begins. • Checking with your insurance agent to make sure your coverage is what you need, and to be covered when you are on your machine and carrying a passenger. • Knowing the law regarding wearing a helmet or not. • Making sure you’re licensed with an endorsement, or risk having your machine towed in case you are stopped for a traffic violation. • Going over your motorcycle and checking everything to make sure nothing is worn out so you can get it attended to before the riding season starts! • Doing all you can to make your community aware of motorcycles. Get out yard signs and billboards at every imaginable spot you can think of to help make the general public aware of motorcycles. Go to your townships and city councils, and ask them to declare May as Motorcycle Awareness Month. • To all those special Awareness Coordinators who are out there teaching classes to driver-education students, you will be making a difference in your communities by getting to the younger generation drivers. Remind them to pay better attention while driving and “Looking Twice To Save A Life—Motorcycles Are Everywhere”. • Safety is the key for everyone who rides. From taking a safety course to getting your endorsement, you will learn so much about motorcycles that you didn’t realize. You can learn about handling, swerving and cautionary measures you can use to navigate on today’s busy roads. Get in touch with Vince (ABATE President). He can help you out. • Make sure you are up to date with your membership. Accidents do happen and you want to be eligible for your benefit from ABATE. • Are you aware of what to do in case of an accident or fatality? Who are the accident scene management members and who should you contact? Please keep all the information in your machine so you can make the right decision when you need to.

Awareness has a special place in my heart and I want everyone to ride and be safe and to come home from a ride because I did all I could to improve motorcycle awareness to the general public. Enjoy the thrill and excitement of riding and all the good times you can have by being respectful and responsible. Try and participate in as many events as you can, along with your brothers and sisters in ABATE. You won’t be disappointed!
