FROM THE PUBLISHER The dead of winter is not really a great time to be in the motorcycle business in Ohio. Just to be honest. People always ask me what I do once the snow flies. This always strikes me as funny though, as things don’t really ever get slow for us – there’s always something for us to do. Despite the chilling temperatures and ice on the road, it’s a busy time as we both prepare for the next season and still go through all the same things that are involved with publishing a monthly magazine. Despite our two-wheeled fixation, we are still publishing year-round – the only Ohio Motorcycle Magazine that still publishes 12 issues a year. The reality is that most of our readers neither hibernate or head south for the winter. We’re all still here – trying to stay warm and usually looking for things to do, since we can’t go riding! Thankfully, we still have a lot of great “Ride Stops” that are serving up great food and cold drinks – and often times Live Music! We probably just have to take four wheels this time of year, unless you’re heading to Grand River Manor (Madison, OH) – where a snow mobile or “sled” is the preferred ride! We have some cool Swap Meets on the calendar, Walnecks and Delaware (Page 56) this month – and then International Motorcycle Show (See page 30) at the end of the month! The challenging thing though about this time of year is that this is when most of the planning starts for the next riding season. The rallies and big events start finalizing dates and headliners, and all the dealerships start working on their budget – deciding where to spend their dollars. And each year, I become an advocate for not only our own magazine – but the motorcycle community in general, I believe. Now don’t get me wrong, this is our business. We distribute a magazine that’s free to our readers thanks to the support of our sponsors. In most cases that’s the local motorcycle dealers and bigger corporate entities that consider motorcyclists their target market. With their support we help advertise and promote hundreds of events in every issue of our magazine. Some are commercial events put on by promoters and the dealerships themselves. In most cases though, they are non-profit rides and charitable events hosted by local grass roots organizations and passionate folks trying to make a difference. And for TEN YEARS, we’ve listed, and in many cases promoted these events FREE of charge in an effort to support not only their causes – but the motorcycle community in general. That’s what we do; we are advocates of the motorcycle community and everything going on within. And each year, we meet with dealers and companies to affirm that YES, supporting the grass roots motorcycle community through a magazine such as ours is a good thing – not only for us and the events we are covering, but for their business as well. I could ramble on for pages on this topic – but the key to the motorcycle community and connecting with riders – isn’t fancier and fancier bikes… it’s engaging the riders on a more personal level and helping to fuel an active riding community. Don’t get me wrong, fancy bikes are cool – but they aren’t the most important thing as evidenced by the proliferation of motorcycle events focusing on old school bike builds and vintage rides. It’s not even those bikes – it’s the folks that are building them, it’s the folks that are riding them, and the events that bring them all together! It’s our business to help support and publicize these events – and help bring out the riders and the cool bikes too! And we couldn’t do our job without the support of our sponsors and advertisers. So, we would like to thank all of our sponsors and ask that you consider helping to supporting them as well. These are companies that have chosen to not only invest in our magazine and share their message, they have chosen to help support the local riding community, the grassroots events that help it thrive, and the riders we bring out. We owe them our appreciation. If you see your local shop or dealership in the magazine, please say THANKS next time you’re out. And if you don’t, feel free to ask them why not? As always, we appreciate your support – and wish you a SAFE RIDE in 2020! Derek A. Smith Publisher THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

THE IRON COWBOY ATTENTION MOTORCYCLE RIDING ORGANIZATIONS

Here’s an Event you DON’T want to miss! ABATE OF OHIO – STATE SEMINAR, Jan 31 – Feb 1, 2020 Embassy Suites, Dublin OH For over 40 years, ABATE of Ohio has served our riding community by being an advocate of RIDER’S RIGHTS. That’s not just a tag line – that’s the whole purpose of the organization. In fact, they don’t just fight for or rights as riders – they proactively identify issues effecting motorcyclists and make sure that our voices are heard. And there are countless instances where ABATE stepped in and spoke up for related causes – even on instances that you were unaware of. The ability to choose whether or not to wear a helmet is an obvious one – but it’s a right we have thanks to ABATE. How about access to proper gas for our bikes? How about ensuring that automatic lights are triggered by motorcycles? Or how about making certain that funding for rider education and awareness stays earmarked for motorcyclists? If there were an initiative to restrict motorcycles or tax us excessively, as has happened elsewhere – or how about motorcycle only check-points aimed at profiling bikers – who would we turn to? ABATE of OHIO, that’s who. And of course, they are already looking at this issues and making certain that our rights are protected. At the end of January, ABATE of Ohio will be hosting their annual State Seminar – Informational Workshop and Awards Banquet. This is a great event that bring a series of speakers up to address issues facing us as riders in Ohio. This information isn’t just for members of ABATE, Veterans, or any other sub-category – it’s information that we should all have as members of the riding community. To this end, I’d like to encourage anyone that has a love of riding – to attend the ABATE State Seminar (Jan 31 – Feb 1, Dublin, Ohio). Any motorcycle club, riding organization, social club, or individual rider is welcome to attend. You don’t have to be a member of ABATE to attend, but why wouldn’t you join ABATE. Membership is only $20 a year – and you not only get a great Newsletter throughout the year, you also get an extra member insurance policy, AND a FREE raffle ticket – that just might earn you a brand new Harley! If you’re a member of a bike club or riding organization, make sure that you are represented at the ABATE State Seminar – and you should certainly consider making your organization a sustaining member of ABATE. Even if you’re already a member of a motorcycle club or riding organization – you can still join ABATE. And if you’re not already involved in a group – you might find that ABATE is a great organization to ride with. There are some good people there – many of which we are proud to call friends! For more information on the ABATE Seminar – look on page 10 or call 614-319-3644.

The LONG WAY UP completes filming! Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman finish their latest long distance ride – and they go ELECTRIC this time. English actor, Ewan McGregor and his buddy Charley Boorman have completed their latest “LONG WAY” trip – a 90 day, 8,000 mile trip from the southernmost tip of Argentina up through South and Central American to L.A. California! This time, though, Ewan and Charlie forsook their BMW GSA’s for Harley-Davidson LiveWires! There was surprising little press in advance or during the trip, not even from H-D, but there were occasional announcements and shots found on Instagram – culminating with an announcement on December 14th on Ewan McGregor’s fan page that the trip was officially over. Having left on 19th – that makes for a long “electric” trip. The LONG WAY UP team included two Harley-Davidson LiveWire Motorcycles, two spare Livewires ridden by cameramen, two Rivian RIT – 100% electric pick-ups, two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans and a 6.2 litre V8 Ford F350. The pick-ups and heavier support vehicles were for the additional cameramen and support crew needed for shooting a television documentary – with Ewan and Charley riding the LiveWires exclusively, we assume. Charley Boorman shared that charging along the way wasn’t too bad, even while traveling through the less developed areas. They would charge with the locals – even off-grid folks with generators. Crossing into the US, however, charging stations were faster and far more common – and they were able to pick up the pace to about 300 miles a day. They averaged 120-180 miles while crossing South and America. Their first two moto-series, LONG WAY ROUND and LONG WAY DOWN, featured a lot of off-road challenges and there’s been no word on specific adventures during this trip – other than an occasional Instagram shot snagged by fans that happened upon the crew during their journey. With a wrap on the trip and shooting, it’s off to the studio for editing and polishing of all the video footage. It’s safe to assume that we will hear more soon and possibly see the show released later this year.

EDITOR’S NOTE – If you’ve never seen LONG WAY ROUND or LONG WAY DOWN, take the time and check them out. Even if you’ve never been off-road and believe you have zero interest in the big adventure bikes – these trips will still certainly capture your imagination and have you looking longingly at roads less traveled. A motorcyclist since his youth, McGregor undertook a marathon international motorbike trip with his best friend Charley Boorman and cameraman Claudio von Planta in 2004. From mid-April to the end of July, they travelled from London to New York via central Europe, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Canada and the United States on BMW R1150GS Adventure motorbikes, for a cumulative distance of 22,345 miles (35,960 km). The trip included visits to several UNICEF programs along the route, and formed the basis of a television series and a best-selling book, both called Long Way Round. (Source – Wikipedia.org) The Long Way Round team reunited in 2007 for another motorcycle trip from John o' Groats in Scotland to Cape Town in South Africa The journey, entitled Long Way Down, lasted from 12 May until 5 August 2007. McGregor's brother Colin joined the motorcycle team during the early stages of the Long Way Down journey, and his father Jim also rode on sections of both Long Way Round and Long Way Down. McGregor appeared in a two-part BBC documentary in April 2012 entitled Ewan McGregor: Cold Chain Mission in which he travels by motorbike, boat, plane and foot to deliver vaccines to children in remote parts of India, Nepal and the Republic of Congo. The trip was part of his work as a UNICEF Ambassador. (Sourced from Wikipedia.org)

ABATE OF OHIO, INC.

COB REPORT

Mike Stock COB Abate of Ohio, Inc. 419-654-5446 or 614-319-3644 chairofboard@abate.com

Hi Friends, Here we go starting a brand-new year – 2020. How long is it going to take to remember to write that the first time? We have some new changes coming and that is because the old ones are not working as well as we would like. The world is changing and we need to keep up to date. We need to get the word out that we are here to Preserve our Rights, Improve our Image and Promote the Safe Operating Practices of Ohio Motorcyclists.

This year’s Awareness Rally kicking off May as Motorcycle Awareness Month will be Saturday May 2, 2020, starting at 9am at AD Farrow, Sunbury Ohio. Plans are in the works for the afterrally party. This year we will be giving an award for the largest group riding in from around the state.

ABATE, “American Bikers Aimed Towards Education”, is a freedom of choice organization dedicated to the premise that the individual is best suited to decide the type of motorcycle to ride, type of safety gear to wear and their personal lifestyle. The reason I made this statement is that I hear so many times that people don’t know what ABATE is about. Every riding organization should join ABATE of Ohio because we are looking out for all riders. An organization, riding group, social group or club can be a sustaining member that covers the whole group, or you can form a legislative committee and they can be a member. What would be the best is for the whole group to become individual members. ($20.00 a year membership and you get a FREE raffle bike ticket and $3,500 life and accident dismemberment insurance policy) For many years we have monitored motorcycle related legislation. This year we have invested in a Call to Action program that will alert us to any legislation being presented that may influence the way we would like to ride our motorcycles. As a member you will have the opportunity to contact your legislator through this program. I belong to other Call to Action programs and I get answers from my legislators and they know the way I feel. We can make a difference! We are less than a month away from the State Seminar 2020. This is a great place to learn what is going on in the motorcycle world. The day will be packed full of informational workshops and legislative updates. Friday evening is a meet and greet, a great place to make some new friends and we may have a few games to play. For more information or reservation info see the flier, or you can go on the ABATE web page, ABATE.com. If you have any problems with reservations, please use the contact numbers and we will help you out. This is a great place for our new Region Directors and Officers to get information. Don’t forget that 2020 is an election year and we want to make a difference. We can donate money from our PAC Fund to candidates that look out for motorcycle rights. We give this money out from the suggestions of our members to support any state candidate. Please contact your region director or the state office if you know of someone seeking office. One of ABATE’s goals is to promote safety and to educate everyone to be aware of motorcycles. That is why we sell yard signs that say, “Look Twice and Save A Life”. We also pass out “Look out for Motorcycle” bumper magnets. Please help us promote Motorcycle safety.

MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES 2020 Vision… that vision that will determine the outcome. I was always crazy about pens and writing material. Give me a good pen and tablet and I was a happy camper! And here it is…the opportunity to write articles, poetry and even a book. So, what is your 2020 vision? Do you have one or is it a thought from long ago that is sitting in the back of your mind collecting dust? Is there something new that you have been thinking about doing but haven’t built up the nerve to jump yet? Then write it down…get it out and look at it! I even challenge you to ask God what it is that He has planned for you! Because He does have a plan for you. Jeremiah 29:11 says so, “I know the thoughts I have for you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” That’s a vision...His vision for you. So, catch the 2020 Vision!!! Welcome to 2020! The year of great vision! It’s probably a cliché that will be used throughout the year, nonetheless, it’s one that makes you ponder a few things. Like this: the bible specifically states in Proverbs 29:18 that people without a vision perish. That is, they die out. Why? Because there is no game plan.

And I will see you in the wind! Mary G.

A good example of that is this…say you are planning a ride. You want to go somewhere, but where? You could get on the bike and just go, which can be fun, but also can lead you into places where you really shouldn’t be or worse yet, stranded on the road because you ran out of gas due to the fact that you didn’t really have a route that was familiar or a destination that could fill your tank. You had no forethought or plan, a.k.a....vision. Vision is a plan for your future. It may be the near future or a distant future, regardless of which one, vision helps set your eyes on the prize. It doesn’t have to be detailed, just a rough draft of where you would like to be and how you might get there. In Habakkuk 2:2 it states that we should “write the vision on the wall”. Now I am not suggesting we write all over the walls of the house, however a written plan somewhere will help if you get sidetracked and lose what you had been focused on at one point. It happens. You see, I believe that part of our vision comes to us from our Creator and Father, God. I believe we are given the vision for our lives even before we are born. As we grow, we begin to see the gifts He placed in us begin to develop and grow. Like the child who goes around singing all the time (music artist), or the little one who loves to write even when they can’t form words (administrator), or the one who takes care of their little stuffed animals and dolls when they are hurt (nurse), or the little one who likes to fix things (mechanic), or figure things out (engineer)…yes, we have all had visions of one kind or another, it’s what we do with

VETERANS RESOURCES FOR FINANCIAL STABILITY: Part I

By Jim Lucas, j.lucas@birchgold.com Despite their service to our country, veterans often struggle to find financial security or stability upon their return to civilian life. Whether a veteran was enlisted for a few years or for their entire career, adjusting to life after service and learning how to successfully manage money as well as navigate debt can be challenging. Unfortunately, there is a very wide range of challenges veterans may face. These challenges can result in financial mismanagement, both during service and immediately following, that can cost veterans. Paying off debt, fighting the effects of fraud, and trying to build up some savings can take many years, leaving veterans insufficiently prepared for and therefore vulnerable when they retire. A lot of the resources here are geared towards helping veterans minimize debt and maximize savings so that they are wellpositioned for retirement. While the exact services offered frequently evolve, the good news is that there are options for veterans and their families to find support. But assumptions about what services are available may be mistaken. Reaching out the groups listed below could uncover additional resources offered by these organizations, or by ones they recommend. While this piece does not aim to provide any financial advice, it does aspire to share resources to connect veterans and their loved ones with professionals who can provide assistance or further information. It also might help introduce the names of some programs and services to guide further inquiry. 14 14

How Prevalent is Financial Difficulty Among Veterans?

their branch of service

Veterans are sometimes at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to finding a job and settling down. They might have sustained injuries during service and have to deal with the consequences, sometimes unaware of the range of government and private services available to help support them. Further, veterans can be the target of fraud due to limited financial knowledge, debt burdens, or struggles with mental health. Their loved ones may want to help but might not know where to start in building an adequate support system to help their veterans through.

their length of service

the length of time the veteran has been out of the military

the age at which the veteran enlisted

whether the veteran is fully retired

The data on how veterans fare financially in comparison to their civilian counterparts emphasizes these challenges further. According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation, veterans are: •

9% more likely to engage in problematic credit card behavior (carry balance, get charged late payment fee, etc.)

40% more likely to be behind on paying for their homes

28% more likely to have made a late home payment

There are also differences within the veteran community that can influence the severity of a person’s hardship as well as the support available to them. Various aspects of the veterans’ experience in service can affect the obstacles they face as well as some of the resources available to them, including:

THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE THUNDER

THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

Homelessness is one pervasive issue in the veteran community. According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, homeless veterans make up roughly 11% of the homeless population. Homeless veterans also tend to be younger than the overall veteran population, and are more likely to suffer from disabilities, mental illness, and/or substance abuse issues. It is critical to look for resources that can help with these issues in parallel to financial help and financial literacy education. Fraud is yet another issue faced frequently by veterans. A survey from AARP found that veterans are targeted for consumer fraud more often than civilians. Specifically, the survey found that 16% percent of veterans have lost money to fraudsters compared to 8% of nonveterans, making veterans twice as likely to fall victim to financial fraud. A whopping 78% of veterans reported being targeted for scams in the past five years that specifically targeted their status as a vet. Common Obstacles Faced by Veterans As touched upon earlier, veterans may face a number of unique challenges upon retirement from duty. Adjusting back to life as a civilian can be difficult. Their experiences in the military, combined with the potentially limited civilian education OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE MAGAZINE OHIO’S

and “conventional” work experience they have, may result in a competitive disadvantage when trying to apply to a job, get back in school, or just settle down into a regular routine—all of which impact their financial stability. A strong understanding of the challenges faced by veterans—and the specific problems each challenge poses—can help pinpoint the types of resources that could be most helpful. Obstacle #1—Frequent moves can make it difficult for veterans and families to make progress on selected careers and can impact total household earnings over time. •

How moving affects financial health: When veterans and their families move around a lot, it can be difficult to establish roots in any one place. The spouse’s career might have suffered from the constant moving; he or she might have been passed up for raises and promotions, and lifetime earnings might be lower as a result. Additionally, the family might have had trouble developing a social life and support network in their community.

How to settle down: To decide where to settle down, veterans should consider factors such as where their extended family lives, where is familiar and/or comfortable to them, and where they can find opportunities for the types of careers or education that interest them and their families. To ease with the transition, the military offers relocation services.

Some other resources specific to this obstacle include: o VA Relocation Assistance – This resource has some details on the federal programming available to assist with relocation and beyond, as well as what specific resources to look at for further support based on the military branch of service. va.org/relocation-assistanceprogram/ o “Family Assistance,” “Family Services,” and “Family Resources” – Search for each of these phrases to find what’s available near you, since it can vary extensively not just by state but also county and city.

THUNDER THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE

Multiple tiers of local programming may exist to assist families with everything from financial aid through planning. These can also help provide veterans with support and counseling in working through issues like financial health. o Local VA Services – Some benefits offered to veterans may vary by state, and so it’s worth the time to visit a local office and talk through what’s available. www.va.gov/ directory/guide/home.asp

families can live and work. www. calibercollision.com/about-us/ community-involvement/recycledrides Obstacle #2—Managing finances during overseas deployment is difficult. Service members and veterans become subject to everything from late payment fees to credit score damage. •

Who is affected most: Those who enlisted young—right out of high school—may not have had the chance to learn how to manage their finances or their credit score. A service member who doesn’t have any urgent financial issues or doesn’t see debt as a significant problem might face a bad surprise upon retirement, when they realize that in retrospect they could have been preparing all along. Further, many military jobs require a security clearance; if a person is in debt, he or she might be denied that clearance and forced into early retirement.

What to do: It’s important to develop good financial habits before problems become unmanageable. The

o Salute – This program is one of many that helps veterans and their families with the servicemember’s transition back to civilian life, helping to fill in gaps that may arise including problems paying bills or securing transportation. www. Saluteinc.org o Recycled Rides – Veterans may apply through one of the participating family assistance programs to receive assistance with transportation, including potentially a refurbished car. This can help provide some flexibility with where veterans and their THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) protects active-duty service members from creditors. Once service members retire, they can seek out credit counseling if they’re in debt. Nonprofit counseling agencies are an option since they are often inexpensive or free, while sustaining a mission of keeping their clients’ best interests at heart. •

Some other resources specific to this obstacle include: o Thrift Savings Plan – Since 2000, military personnel can enroll in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement savings plan available to federal employees. Once service has ended and no further contributions can be made, this can be converted strategically to an IRA; learning more about the options available for this, as well as consulting with a financial advisor, are recommended. https:// www.investor.gov/additionalresources/specialized-resources/ military/thrift-savings-plan-tspretired-pay

PATRIOTS MAKING A DIFFERENCE LOCALLY

AAMC 4th Annual Christmas Party, Cleveland OH On December 14 , 2019 the All American MC (AAMC), based in Cleveland, Ohio, held it’s 4th annual Christmas party. The celebration included food, raffle baskets, 50/50, discounted drinks and a DJ providing great atmosphere for everyone to enjoy themselves. Representatives from Cheap Tobacco out of Middleburg Heights was on site providing cigars at discounted pricing as well as passing out some free sticks. With over 100 people in attendance and some from as far away as Lansing, Michigan, the turnout and support was outstanding. th

The event was about more than holiday festivities, All American has a mission to support the local community and takes great pride in doing so. AAMC took this opportunity to make a donation to the Hope for the Homeless with 30 Bags of coats, gloves, hats, blankets etc. which were collected at the event and presented to a representative, who was on-site. AAMC also worked with Girl Scout troop

#70279 out of North Royalton. These fine young ladies made enough blankets and scarves to fill 5 large bags, collected a box of supplies and a case water to present to this worthy cause. Finally, in addition to the supplies donated, All American presented a check for $3,000.00 to the Hope for the Homeless cause. All American MC’s membership is primarily made up of veterans with some patriots in the club, who all share a common belief and passion to support our veterans in any way we can. The club reaches out to organizations who are helping veterans in need within the community or work directly with veterans on a case by case basis. In addition to veterans, All American also supports other worthy charity or needy individuals when the situation presents itself. AAMC will be celebrating it’s fifth anniversary in April of 2020. TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES

JANUARY UPDATE!

THE 2020 BIKE SHOW SERIES It may seem a long way off, but we’ve already begun committing to dates and locations to host Bike Shows and other events for the 2020 riding season. For 2020, we are looking to continue expanding into new areas, with an extra emphasis on locations in NORTHWEST and CENTRAL Ohio. We’ve begun scouting new locations and would welcome your input/suggestions. If you have a venue and are interested in hosting a TRO Championship Bike Show – or you’d like to recommend a location – we’d love to hear from you! Just send us an email at BikeShowInfo@gmail.com

NEW for 2020 – Vintage Racing Classes! For 2020, we will be adding VINTAGE RACING and VINTAGE TOURING classes as options for exhibitors taking part in the BIKE SHOW SERIES. As always, we will require at least 3 bikes in these classes to qualify for a BEST IN CLASS AWARD – but several of the 2019 shows already far exceeded this for these classes, with some amazing bikes. Our hope is that we can encourage more Exhibitors to bring out and show their bikes in these classes with us offering new, distinct classes.

TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES JANUARY UPDATE! The Bike Show Series

Over the last several years, Thunder Roads Ohio has worked to develop the TRO Championship Bike Show Series as a means of showcasing both the rides that our readers have and the amazing works of rolling art that local shops and builders have been producing in an informal, fun format. Along the way, we discovered that many local riders had never participated in a Bike Show – never considering that their bikes were “show worthy”. It turns out though, that most riders have an appreciation – even a love of motorcycles that goes beyond the amount of chrome on a bike or if there are water spots and dust on them. We’ve hosted Bike Shows at indoor venues showcasing bikes with less than a dozen miles on them – and we’ve hosted Bike Shows at outdoor venues ranging from dealership parking lots to grass fields with countless entries still hot from riding in from across the state! Throughout, we’ve discovered that it’s not always the most polished that gets the attention, but it’s the love and work that goes into the bike that everyone appreciates. Even if you’ve never participated in a Bike Show before, we encourage everyone to participate and have fun with the shows! Chances are that you’ll discover a greater appreciation for what makes your bike unique and meet some other folks with a similar passion. And we’re certain you’ll have a blast! The TRO Bike Show Series features local, regional, and nationally recognized shows that all builders and bike owners are welcome to participate in. Vintage, metric, v-twin, customs, restored antiques, “resto-mods”, trikes, and radicals are all welcome to the show.

ATTENTION MOTORCYCLE SHOPS / CUSTOM BUILDERS These shows are RIDE-IN shows, meaning the bikes are expected to be ridden and a little bit of road dust is fine. We don’t split / PAINTERS: hairs over trailering in bikes, but we do require that all bikes must be functioning. They must start and be able to be safely ridden on the road.

For shops interested in participating and possibly exhibiting customer and shop bikes, a limited number of shop displays are available at Thunder Roads Bike Shows. Participating shops and organizations are able to offer special incentives for their customers and members. For more information or to reserve space for group bike displays (i.e. shops, clubs, race teams, etc..) email BikeShowInfo@gmail.com

Most of the shows include voting by event attendees and weighted judges scores. We use this approach to make certain we include both the “popular opinion” and an objective review of the bikes.

INTERESTED IN HOSTING A TRO BIKE SHOW AT YOUR LOCATION? We will soon begin announcing shows in 2020! Thanks to Dan Hare and Dave Eggert for Bike Show Photos.

Interested in coming out? It’s easy! Just visit us online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com and you can register for whichever show you’d like. By Pre-Registering, you are locking in your spot, saving a few dollars, and you’ll even get a FREE T-Shirt!

Thunder Roads Ohio (TRO) is proud to present the 2020 BUCKEYE THUNDER RUN - a state-wide, summer-long riding challenge with YEAR-ROUND opportunities to WIN by hitting the coolest riding destinations and events across Ohio! This is a riding challenge like no-other and features great prizes every month that you earn simply by getting out to ride and discovering new stops ALL ACROSS OHIO and the MIDWEST!

Checking in at Ride Stops! During the “off-season” most Ride Stops are simply using

digital check-ins. Which means that you check in using Facebook at the location and then post a picture of yourself there. You can include your card if convenient. Include #TRO in your comments or tag Thunder Roads Ohio in the post. If you’re not on Facebook, you can take a picture of yourself there with your ride card or motorcycle and email it to BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com

Checking in at TRO Tour Stops! Throughout the year, the TRO ROAD CREW will be hitting rides, rallies, bike shows, and various

events throughout the state – and beyond! In some cases the CREW will be attending national rallies and other events throughout the Midwest – including Michigan and Pennsylvania motorcycle events. Anywhere the TRO CREW is at – instantly becomes a RIDE STOP! There is a listing of Tour Stops in the magazine and online each month. You can sign in on the Ride Stop Clipboard or check in with your smart phone.

REGIONAL RIDE MAPS! First introduced in 2019, Regional Ride Maps focus on a particular area or theme and usually include 15-20 Ride Stops for riders to hit. Generally, it’s something that can be knocked out in a weekend, maybe even a single day of hard riding – or some might take a little longer, such as a trip around the state hitting microbreweries or veterans themed stops. The idea is to make a cool, fun ride that can be “completed” in a more limited amount of time. Once you hit all the stops – you simply send back the checklist, which you can easily do with your phone or old school with the mail. Either way – once we get the form and it’s verified – you’re in the running for a $500 Grand Prize and over 100 other prizes! It’s that easy!

2020 Regional Ride Maps will include – Akron / Canton area, Cleveland, Columbus, Ohio Bike Week, Geneva / Erie, Northwest Ohio & Southeastern Ohio (Email us if you’d like to recommend a stop in these areas.)

How do you Start? (It's really simple!)

1. Get your Ohio Ride Card! (Online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com, at an Event, or at some Ride Stops!) 2. Like Thunder Roads Ohio on Facebook. 3. Get the list of stops each month from your Thunder Roads Magazine, the website (ThunderRoadsOhio.com), or Facebook. 4. Ride out to these stops and show them your card or check in with the #TRO Hashtag on social media. 5. And then you win cool prizes, including cold hard CASH!

You can request a Ride Card through our website!

“Should I buy

Bluetooth Communicators Part 1 Motorcycle communication and entertainment systems are not new. I was one of the pioneers back in 1975 during the CB radio craze. I started a mail order business, making and selling headsets to use CB on motorcycles which became Verity Cycle Lab in 1976. Starting with helmet microphones and speakers, we expanded to complete systems with AM, FM, CB, weather radio and radar detector with rider-passenger intercom. Most of these systems were built into Cycle Sound housings that mounted on Vetter fairings. CB remained the choice for bike-to bike communication all the way into the 2000s, when Bluetooth wireless headsets appeared. It took several generations of products, but Bluetooth was ultimately a game-changer.

Some BT headset users also want them for intercom communication with riders on other motorcycles and that is the primary function for many. Some riders have success with their headsets while others are frustrated. I will explain pros and cons and how to minimize problems, but first let me explain some things about the technology. Bluetooth Technology Bluetooth has lots of advantages due to the high 2.4 Gigahertz radio frequencies it uses. That’s 2.4 billion cycles per second. (FM radio is around 100 million cycles per second.) The higher the frequency, the smaller the antenna needs to be, so a Bluetooth antenna only needs to be a couple of inches long. Higher frequency signals travel further for a given power

What is Bluetooth? Bluetooth is a wireless communications protocol that was introduced in 1999. It was originally designed for short range (3-25 foot) connections, primarily earphones. Motorcycle headsets use Bluetooth to connect the rider to their smartphone, music sources and GPS prompts. These applications are simple, short range and well within the original Bluetooth concept.

level, so a smaller, lighter battery may be used. That enables a typical communicator to deliver six to twelve hours of continuous intercom operation from its tiny lithium ion battery. A Sena 20s headset transmits with just under 1 milliwatt of power. Remember the old CB radios? They had 4-watt transmitters, 4 thousand times the power of a Bluetooth communicator. Given such low transmitter power, it is indeed a miracle how far intercom communication can reach on a top-line Sena or Cardo headset. I have personally experienced intercom with another rider 1.2 miles away, BUT that was line of sight in a rural area with low radio frequency traffic and no hills, trees or obstructions. Normal range is less. Much less. This is because high frequency radio signals also have disadvantages. The higher the frequency the more line-of-sight the signal becomes. These signals do not penetrate walls, hills, structures or even dense foliage of a forested area. Then there is interference- in urban areas, thousands of Bluetooth devices competing for the same narrow radio bandwidth, further reducing range and clarity of communication.

Pairing The first step in getting your phone, GPS, etc. set up is a process called pairing. Unlike conventional two-way radios that communicate by selecting the same channel frequency on both units, all Bluetooth devices operate in the same frequency band. Each device has a unique numeric address. When pairing mode is set on both devices, it causes them to advertise their address to each other. Once each device memorizes the other's address, pairing is complete. Then they can communicate by including the address of the intended recipient in each message. The receiver monitors everything that comes in on the Bluetooth frequency but only processes messages that contain its own address. Phone & GPS Most of my friends use their headset with their phone for calls and also with their GPS for navigation info. Pairing must be done in a certain order using the correct settings, but once it’s done correctly, everything works well. Receiving a phone call is easy. When you hear the ring tone all you have to do is tap the phone button on the communicator to answer. When the call connects, you have high quality two-way communication. Tap the phone button again to end the call. I don't normally make outgoing calls while riding, but my Sena 30K can be set up to speed dial up to three different numbers. If you have voice commands enabled, you say "Hello Sena," and the device answers back, "Say a command." I reply, "Speed dial 1" (or 2 or 3). The phone activates and dials the stored number. Easy! My Garmin zumo 590 GPS is paired with the headset in a mode where the navigation voice prompts, and MP3 music comes through mixed with intercom audio. (Other people on intercom can't hear it though.) I don't have to keep looking at the GPS screen to see when a turn is coming up- the GPS voice warns me when the turn is about half a mile ahead. Not having to worry about missing a turn, knowing when school zones are coming up, etc. allows me to concentrate on enjoying the bike and the road. Intercom Just like setting up your phone and GPS, using intercom with other riders begins with pairing. Both units are placed in intercom pairing mode and allowed to connect. Once this has been done, either rider can tap their jog dial one time to toggle the intercom on and off.

by the leader. Passing slower vehicles is much easier for group members when the leader can get out ahead and make sure the road is clear for passing. Next month Be sure to come back to Sport Touring Corner next month when we talk All About Bluetooth Intercom, including Bluetooth vs Mesh, various communicator models, which brand to choose, etc.

Connect with local Ohio MSTA riders at these monthly breakfasts: Southwest Ohio Breakfast, 9AM January 18 Village Family Restaurant 144 S. Main St. Waynesville, OH 45068 Central Ohio Breakfast, 8AM, January 5 Portside Cafe 6515 S High St Lockbourne, OH 43137

Unlike two-way radios where you have to push a button to talk and only one can speak at a time, once the intercom is on you have hands free two-way communication as long as you wish. There are many advantages to having intercom. Stops can be coordinated easily based on need and preferences when everyone can talk. JANUARY 24 - 26, 2020 Wintertime is time for indoor bike shows here in the Midwest, and the Progressive International Motorcycle Show (IMS) is the MANUFACTURER’S SHOW showcasing all the newest in bikes, gear, and accessories. These shows have been touring the nation for over 30 years, offering a taste of just about everything “motorcycle” that you could think of. IMS differs from many of the other winter shows due to the fact that it features OEM manufacturers and new bikes – in addition to customs, stunt shows, gear, and so much more! IMS is where the manufacturers introduce the year’s new bikes to the consumers – and in many cases they have their entire lineup on display for consideration. Motorcycle enthusiasts can view just about every new motorcycle offered all in one place – under the same roof. I can’t think of another opportunity anywhere for that. Most of the bikes are also right there on the floor where riders can climb on and really get a feel for them. Another unique aspect of the IMS shows is that they cover virtually the entire scope of the motorcycle community – much like Thunder Roads! Dirt bikes, touring bikes, street bikes, scooters, and even ATV’s and side by sides are all on the floor. And not just the new ones. Incredibly restored vintage bikes, legendary rides from years past, and incredible custom builds are all on display.

bikes. We reviewed (RAVED about) them in last months magazine. Our youngest contributor here at TRO went from training wheels to rippin around the yard in less than 10 minutes the first time he got on one. They are amazing, and your kids can try them out at the show! (Kids 11 and under are FREE – so bring them to the show!)

There’s a lot to see and do at this year’s show – more then we could possibly cover here, but here are just a few of the highlights. For even more information or to order tickets, visit motorcycleshows.com Or you can visit PROGRESSIVE INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SHOWS –Cleveland on Facebook.

Over the last few years, the focus of the show has shifted more and more to new riders – so even if you’ve never been on a motorcycle before, this is the show for you! Even if you don’t have a motorcycle endorsement, you can get on the back of a bike and actually go riding around an indoor track on a real motorcycle. It’s an electric one – but it’s a full size bike. There are also electric powered e-bikes that offer a totally unique experience – blending the versatility and weight of a bicycle with the capabilities of a powered vehicle. And for the kids, there are Stacyc’s – powered stability

Dying Breed If you are not working toward the growth, preservation and future of your club, you may be the last of your kind. Recently I’ve noticed a trend in some MCs to shorten the required prospect time to gain new members. In fact, I notably asked a friend in another club that brought on a whole bunch of guys all at once if he was handing patches out like candy on beggar’s night. His response to me was “we’ll take them all and sort them out later”. I personally have never been a fan of that methodology. It expends a lot of resources and time invested in people that were never meant to be in a club at all. Not to mention you now have an extra amount of people running around that know your club’s inner workings. But I’m beginning to understand why they are doing it. I believe this goes hand in hand with what many of us have been saying for the past 10+ years. With the advent of “Made for TV Motorcycle Clubs” came an abundance of pretenders who wanted to emulate what they saw on TV. Most of us knew that it wouldn’t last. Such is the reason there are so many used bikes with low miles on the market today. They’ve migrated back to their softball and bowling leagues, and no longer play bike club on the weekend. It has recently come to mind that the number of pop up clubs has vastly decreased

in the past year too. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just that the truth is, real MC bike clubbers are a rare breed, and far and few in between. There really aren’t dozens of actual hard-core clubbers standing outside of anyone’s clubhouse asking for membership. So, in effort to attract new blood, some clubs have lowered their bar. Formerly single race clubs are now becoming mixed race clubs. Clubs that would only entertain likeminded clubs are now partying and riding with clubs of all races and viewpoints. I recently had an old timer tell me he wouldn’t compromise his viewpoint to gain numbers. I understand that. I even respect it, but it’s the wrong way to look at things in a modern world in my opinion. I told him that where as that is all fine and dandy for him, he’s got maybe 10 years left in this lifetime, and the rest of the club, the men 15 – 20 years younger would also like to enjoy this MC as long as you have. If your mind set doesn’t change, there won’t be an MC to be a part of. You can have 3 guys who are old school minded, but 3 guys don’t make a club. The good news is with the disbanding of so many pop up fake MCs, the numbers are getting back to the way they used to be, with only a set number of MCs that are solid in a given area. So, the few misfit toys out there that are wanting to join a club, are joining established MCs instead of grabbing 5 buddies from the neighborhood and starting another fake MC out of the garage because they are afraid to probate and earn a real patch. Join a larger, established organization if you are serious about this lifestyle. I promise you won’t regret it. You really have two choices for your club and its future, modernize your processes, or understand that your club and way of thinking is becoming obsolete, and you’re a Dying Breed. BUCKEYE FIREARMS REPORT Will We Protect Our Children in School? by Rob Morse In the long run, we get the results we plan for. We wear a seatbelt when we drive because we won’t have time to put the seatbelt on the second before an accident. We have insurance when we drive so we can financially and medically recover if someone runs into us. Saying that bad things shouldn’t happen isn’t a workable plan. That is why I’m angry at people who say we shouldn’t protect our kids at school. For the last twenty years we’ve seen mad men murdering our children because the crazy person wanted to get their name in the news. Why has there been even a single mass murder in a church or school after the murders in Columbine two decades ago? Let’s ask the uncomfortable questions while we have time. We can and should save our children, but some people disagree. Protecting our students sends the wrong message. Do you vaccinate your kids? Do you take your children to the doctor when they are sick, or do you tell your children that disease is ugly and shouldn’t exist? I think that protecting our children sends the message we love them. Guns are evil and it’s the gun’s fault. If we think guns are evil, then why do we protect our politicians and judges with guns? Why do we protect politician’s children with guns? I think we should stop bad people before they hurt our innocent children. We should protect our children even though some people can’t imagine evil. I’ve met people who said they could never hurt someone else. Why should our children suffer because a few people don’t want to be bothered with their own defense? Ordinary people do a good job of stopping the

bad guy. When they are present, armed citizens stop or reduce the severity of mass murder attacks 95 percent of the time. We have never seen an armed civilian shoot an innocent victim during a mass murder attack. Should we leave our students unprotected because of a safety concern that never happened? My friend Ed Monk studied public violence. We’ve had up to a hundred people shot if we wait for the police to end the threat. Having an armed defender close enough to hear or see the attack drops the number of victims to single digits. The armed defender saves dozens of lives..or more. We know that works. “What is an acceptable number of dead and wounded victims to have while waiting for police to arrive?” -Ed Monk Despite the fantasy of crazy teachers shooting their kids, we don’t have a reported instance where an armed member of a school security team accidentally shot a student while at work. We haven’t seen it even though armed and trained school staff came to school thousands

of times. We need the armed defenders near the victims when the shooting starts. We can put hundreds of armed-volunteer school staff in place for the price of a single school resource officer. How should we protect our children? Plastic “No Guns” signs don’t save lives. Extending “gun-free zones” from the school doors out to 1000 feet from the edge of school property doesn’t save lives. Disarming the honest moms and dads who drop off their kids in the school parking lot doesn’t save lives. Those are the quack-cures of public safety. These false solutions have gotten our kids killed. Maybe they sounded like a good idea at one point, but they failed. Our children’s safety is too important to leave to politicians and the press. Let’s do what works. Reposted with permission.

Our family of highly effective pro-gun organizations includes Buckeye Firearms Association, Buckeye Firearms Foundation, and Buckeye Firearms Association PAC. Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization that serves as the flagship of our grassroots efforts to defend and advance the right of citizens to own and use firearms for all legal activities, including self-defense, hunting, competition, and recreation. BFA works to pass pro-gun legislation, educate the public through ongoing media relations, provide high-quality firearm classes, and make available a wide variety of resources for gun owners. While anti-gun groups get their funding and support from wealthy activists or big corporations, BFA gets its funding and support from citizens like you who value their 40 40

Winter Maintenance The holidays have passed and it’s cold. Now I don’t completely hate winter because it gives me time to do maintenance on my bike, or the repairs that I have been neglecting throughout the final months of the riding season. Before I dig into the bike, I will do a little homework online and see if there are items that are known to be problematic on whatever model of bike I am working on. I take advice on forums with a grain of salt, but I will still look into things that seem to be common, and make a judgment for myself. Let’s look at the common mileage related maintenance points of most motorcycles. Tires: How is your tread depth? Winter is a good time to find sales on tires, and get them swapped out before the spring thaw. Even if your tires have decent tread depth, you should consider how old they are. After about 5-6 years you should consider replacing tires because as tires age, the rubber gets hard. Older tires may ride fine on dry pavement, but as soon as you hit wet pavement, you will quickly notice how slick things get. New tires should handle about the same on wet or dry pavement, under conservative riding conditions. I am sure a few of you are going to balk at this notion, but think about how your car handles in the rain vs dry pavement. To find the “born on date” on the side of your tires, look around the sidewall and you will see a four digit number in an oval shaped spot. The first two numbers are the week of the year, and the second two numbers are the year in which the tires were manufactured. Example: “1317” would be the 13th week of 2017. This is also good to check when you buy new tires, so you don’t end up with a set that have been sitting on the self for 5 years. Oil/fluid changes: Now you don’t necessarily need to change your oil in the spring just because the bike sat all winter. This is especially true with modern synthetic lubricants. Any moisture that accumulates in your oil will likely burn off within the first 15 minutes of engine operation. However if you are close to a scheduled oil change, now is a great time to knock it out, and then you get to start out on fresh oil in the spring. Driveline: AKA Chains and Belts? HD belts should last at least 50k. I have heard of THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

many lasting longer, but it is good to check the alignment and tension. Chain life can vary drastically based on type of chain and maintenance. Since sprocket changes generally come with chain replacement, wither is a good time to check the tension, alignment and wear. If your chain has side to side play, and/or your sprocket teeth are getting pointy, it’s time to for replacement parts. Brakes: Look in there and see if you can see the friction material on your brake pads. This may take some time with a flashlight to see. Minimum thickness of the friction material is around .040”. A dime is about .050”, so if the friction material is thinner than a dime, it’s time to replace the pads. *A notable exception is the ‘08 and up H.D. bagger brakes. Those pads are thin from the manufacture, but they last a very long time. Refer to your owner’s manual for measurements. Cables: This is a must do for any motorcycle regardless of miles and winter is a great time to dig into this. Loosen the adjusters and pull the rubber shields back and see what the cable looks like. If it looks frayed or rusty, replace it! Cables are generally cheap to replace, and your average mechanic can do it themselves with some time, patience, and a manual. Plus if you push your luck with old cables, it is likely going to leave you stranded sooner or later. Battery tenders: There is no reason not to own and use one of these on your bike. THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

The cheap ones work just fine and they are super simple to use. Put it on your battery whenever you are not going to be riding for a few weeks. Regular usage of a tender will make your battery last longer, and it will always be waiting with a full charge when you are ready to ride. Now it’s no secret that it gets cold in the winter here, and freezing temps make hitting your knuckles hurt even more. Everything hurts more when it’s cold. Now maybe your garage does not have heat, but Skidmark Garage does! So stop on up and become a member, because everyone is welcome at Skidmark, regardless of skill or knowledge. If you join in the winter, Brian, the owner, will help figure out a way for you to get your bike to the garage. If mid repair you find yourself a little stuck, you can always ask another member for assistance. Or if there is an area you would like to learn a lot more about, like maintenance, carbs, or whatever, you can take a class from Knoble Moto. Knoble Moto is a partner of Skidmark Garage. We teach classes for the DIY crowd, on all aspects of motorcycle repair. Entry level maintenance, valve adjustments, carburetor cleaning and tuning, drive line service, suspensions, and even engine work. Our class subjects are updated regularly, so check back often. FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN...

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson were going camping. They pitched their tent under the stars and went to sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night Holmes woke Watson up and said: "Watson, look up at the stars, and tell me what you see." Watson replied: "I see millions and millions of stars." Holmes said: "And what do you deduce from that?" Watson replied: "Well, if there are millions of stars, and if even a few of those have planets, it’s quite likely there are some planets like Earth out there. And if there are a few planets like Earth out there, there might also be life." And Holmes said: "Watson, you idiot, it means that somebody stole our tent."

Motorcyclist Who Identifies As Bicyclist Sets Cycling World Record NEW YORK, NY—In an inspiring story from the world of professional cycling, a motorcyclist who identifies as a bicyclist has crushed all the regular bicyclists, setting an unbelievable world record. In a local qualifying race for the World Road Cycling League, the motorcyclist crushed the previous 100-mile record of 3 hours, 13 minutes with his amazing new score of well under an hour. Professional motorcycle racer Judd E. Banner, the brave trans-vehicle rider, was allowed to race after he told league organizers he's always felt like a bicyclist in a motorcyclist's body.

Biker rolling through town on his custom, fastest bike in town. He's going around a bend when he rolls up on a cop. The blue lights come on and out rolls the cop. The biker thinks, "He'll never catch me in that car" and takes off. Several miles later the cop is still behind him as he pulls over. The cop walks up to the biker and asks for his license. Then the cop says, "OK. I've had a crappy day, and I'm ready to head home. Come up with a good excuse for speeding away from me and I'll let you go." The biker looks at the cop and replies, "The old lady left me last week for a cop. I was afraid it was you and you were trying to bring her back." Cop hands him his license and tells him to have a nice ride home.

"Look, my ride has handlebars, two wheels, and a seat," he told reporters as he accepted a trophy for his incredible time trial. "Just because I've got a little extra hardware, such as an 1170-cc flat-twin engine with 110 horsepower, doesn't mean I have any kind of inherent advantage here." Banner also said he painted the word "HUFFY" on the side of his bike, ensuring he has no advantage over the bikes that came out of the factory as bicycles. Some critics say he needs to cut off his motor in order to make the competition fairer, but he quickly called these people bigots, and they were immediately banned from professional cycle racing.

RECIPES

Double Baked Stuffed Potatoes Serves 6-8 (or 4 hungry bikers) 4 BIG baking potatoes Sausage with Potatoes and Kraut Serves 4-6 (or 3 hungry bikers) 6 slices bacon, diced 1 onion, diced 1 apple, peeled, cored, diced (adds a a nice tart sweetness) 1 1/2 pounds kielbasa sausage, sliced (you can use any sausage you like) 2 large potatoes, diced small 2 lb sauerkraut, rinsed, drained very well (use kraut from a bag or jar, not can, tastes like tin) 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 cup beer (any kind you like) 1 1/2 cups chicken stock

8-10 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled 1 c sour cream ½ c milk 6 tbsp butter 1 ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese ¼ c green onions, diced Salt and Pepper Preheat oven to 350 Wash and dry the potatoes, then prick holes all over with a fork to allow steam to escape Rub the skins with 2 tbsp butter then salt and pepper well. The butter will help it stick.

1 tbsp caraway seeds

Bake for an hour. You can check to see if they are done by poking with a fork for tenderness

Salt and pepper to taste

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes

In a large stock pot over med-high heat, add the bacon, onion, apple, sausage slices, and potatoes Sauté until everything is tender and slightly browned Add sauerkraut to the pot along with the vinegar, beer, chicken stock, and, caraway seeds Bring to simmer, reduce heat to low and cover Allow to cook about an hour, just be sure the potatoes are fork tender Salt and pepper to taste and serve.

Slice potatoes in half lengthwise and scoop out the flesh with a spoon and reserve to a medium sized bowl You don’t want to remove ALL the flesh, leave a little near the skin so it will hold its shape Once you have all the insides scooped out into a bowl mix in the sour cream, milk, butter, 1 cup cheese, ½ tsp salt and ¼ tsp pepper. Mix well with a fork or in an electric mixer, to the consistency of mashed potatoes with a few little lumps Spoon mixture back into potato skins, place in a baking dish, top with bacon and cheese And back into the oven for 15 minutes at 350

**Thank you Yvonne Godair for trying this in a crockpot! Now we know you can cook this for 6 hours on low and it turned out great!

Remove and top with green onions to serve

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAG! We’d also like to thank all of our subscribers... and of course the avid readers that bring it all together.Thank you for making all of this possible, for supporting this organization, and our families. Sincerely, The Thunder Roads Ohio Team.

TRO SCAVENGER HUNT The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail. com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! How cool is that?!
