FROM THE PUBLISHER These are undoubtedly challenging times. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and maybe even feel like you and possibly your family are getting hit especially with everything going on – but we are ALL in this. And we are all in this TOGETHER. People often chide me for getting political or taking a stance when I write or talk, but I kinda feel like I have an obligation to make myself heard. And I will take it a step further – I think that the reason we are in such a mess is because FAR TOO MANY people are standing silent and not allowing themselves to be heard. And that’s why we are all in such a mess. As riders we take to the road and support a wide variety of causes – from supporting our VETERANS to raising awareness of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. From BREAST CANCER to helping those in UKRAINE, there are countless rides and events hosted by well meaning folks trying to make a difference. And we’re BIKERS – so we RIDE TO BE HEARD. That’s what we do. But I’d really encourage everyone to take another step – to make sure your message is received. GET INVOLVED. SAY SOMETHING. SPEAK UP! Contact a ride or organization whose cause you believe in and offer your assistance. These days, we need MORE AND MORE people to step up and get involved! Along those same lines, I’d like to thank – MORE THAN EVER – our advertisers, subscribers, and sponsors. We couldn’t do what we do – to support more than 500 rides, events, and organizations every year – without your help. This is a business as well, and your support allows myself and other team members to support our families as well. One of our earliest tag lines and MISSIONS was to be PROUD SUPPORTERS of the RIDING COMMUNITY. That’s a core aspect of our business plan and how we’ve grown to be one of the largest regional motorcycle magazines in the nation – both in print and online. First COVID and now paper shortages and unprecedented fuel / shipping costs threaten the very existence of print magazines and promotional companies like ours all across the country. That’s not something I say lightly, but in full disclosure as motorcycle mags are closing up all around us. So – not only do I say thank you; but I also look to everyone else that picks up this and other free publications. Please step up and voice your appreciation and show your support to our sponsors. If you’re a rider – please consider getting a subscription. You can subscribe easily online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com If you have a business, please consider getting involved and possibly placing an ad or becoming a sponsor. We are STILL reaching over 300,000 MOTORCYCLE ENTHUSIASTS every month through our print and digital editions. We are easily one of the most cost-effective means of reaching riders anywhere. So, not only is it a good thing to do – to support both us and the riding community – it’s a SOLID BUSINESS DECISION! As always, you can reach us online or by emailing us at Info@ReasonsToRide.com Ride Safe and LIVE STRONG! D.A. Smith

THE IRON COWBOY

Bike of the Nights!

CONNECTING WITH RIDERS

As part of a new initiative, the TRM / RtR crew will be out and about hitting various Bike Nights, Rides, and Rallies over the next few months. At select events, our team will recognize one or two bikes as “BIKE OF THE NIGHT”.

Local riding organizations are invited to come and set up at regional motorcycle events.

The owners of these motorcycles will receive a special trophy and invitation to participate in an upcoming bike show – sponsored by the magazine.

And all of these are great opportunities for local riding organizations to connect with riders…

We will also be featuring some of these bikes in the magazine and / or online. If you’d like our crew to stop by your Bike Night or other event, just email us with details and contact information. Email us at Events@ReasonsToRide.com

PISTON POWER SHOW 2023 DATES ANNOUNCED! I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama to feature RtR.com Championship Showcase!

Over the next several months, we will be setting up at and helping to host a number of fairly large motorcycle events including Thunder Zones as part of the Easyriders Rodeos and in Geneva-on-the-Lake during Thunder on the Strip. In between, we will be out at rides, bike nights, and other local events.

Many riding organizations just think about setting up to sell t-shirts or to promote an upcoming ride, if that. Far too few consider setting up just as an opportunity to introduce themselves to other riders and the riding community in general. A booth with a banner in back and maybe a table with some swag or flyers about an upcoming event – allow you to connect with folks and deliver a strong message about who you are. At the upcoming events, we would like to invite local riding organizations out to join us as we set up. This includes motorcycle ministries, veterans organizations, RC’s, and even MC’s. For some of the larger events, where there are thousands of riders, there might be a small charge by the venue for setting up a booth. In most cases it’s just $50-100 to set up. If you can sell a stack of shirts or sign up 20-30 more riders for your upcoming ride – that’s money well spent. Or if you connect with a few strong candidates or have a chance to let the community really know who you are – it’s money well spent. For more information on coming out to events or to reserve space at a specific event, send us an email at BikeShowInfo@ gmail.com

The nation’s largest indoor custom vehicle show will return to the Cleveland I-X Center March 31 – April 2nd, 2023. With over 1,000,000 of exhibit space, this has long been the nation’s largest indoor celebration of horsepower, speed, and custom builds. The show includes cars, trucks, military vehicles, offroad vehicles, even planes – and of course, motorcycles. For 2023, the show will feature 30 of the top bikes from across the Midwest as part of an invitational Championship Showcase. ReasonsToRide.com will be working with the show to select the top bikes from Bike Shows and events from throughout the region. We will also be accepting applications for consideration as well. The show will be awarding a total of $1,500 in cash and trophies for motorcycles, including BEST BIKE, Outstanding Bike, and People’s Choice Award – sponsored by Thunder Roads Ohio. Bike Show Applications must be accepted by November 15, 2022 for consideration. Visit our facebook page or website (www.ThunderRoadsOhio.com) for more information on submitting – or email us at Events@ReasonsToRide.com 8

NOW BOOKING FALL AND 2023 EVENTS While it seems as though summer has just begun, it’s still time to start thinking about the Fall and maybe even next year as we start planning for Bike Shows, Tattoo Parties, Rides, and Rallies. One of our clear mandates going forward is to NOT spread ourselves too thin as much as we may have in the past. So, that means we will be limiting ourselves to less shows and appearances – even as we open up new territories and begin setting up at new venues. So – if you’re interested in getting on the Tour Schedule for this FALL or even NEXT YEAR – let us know ASAP. Even if you have a traditional, regular date – PLEASE take a minute and confirm your date for next year. If you’re considering adding a TOUR STOP – with one of our signature promotions such as the Bike Show, Iron & Ink Tattoo Party, or even just a photo shoot or Bike Night Appearance – let us know right away so we can begin discussions. Don’t wait until the last moment! Email us at BikeShowInfo@gmail.com for more information or to lock-in your date(s).

MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES “So, I looked up and saw the flashes of lightning shoot across the sky. The fascinating fingers of electricity caught my eye every few seconds it seemed. The brighter they flashed, the harder I hit the throttle because I knew there wasn’t time to waste, I had to beat that storm or be a drenched rat by the time I got home!” How many times have we been in this place? Caught up in the middle of a storm with nothing to do but ride right on through it? So much like life itself, isn’t it? There’s a strange kind of excitement about storms though. An exhilaration that just gets your heart thumping and your adrenalin flowing and challenges you to push harder to beat it regardless of how tough it gets. Crazy but it’s what keeps us fighting to survive. I have to ask though…how many of us would actually go out if we knew the storm was coming? How many times do we get ready to roll and we pop up the phones and look to see what the weather is going to be like? Yep…guilty. Except, we don’t stay home…we just choose a different mode of transportation. You see sometimes, regardless of what it looks like, you still have to face the storm. Is it going to be pleasant? No. Is it going to be comfortable? No. Will you be able to get through it? Well that depends on who you trust through the storm.

novice rider and I said, ‘Look, where are you headed?’ Her destination was close to mine so I said, ‘Stick close to me and we will ride this out together, just focus on the road, not the lightning.’ She nodded and off we went. We only had a few more miles to go, but it seemed like a hundred. I dropped her off. She thanked me for stopping and proceeded to try to apologize…’no need. We all start somewhere, and the Lord knew what you needed.’ I made it home…dry and thankful. And then the rain came down…” Jesus always knows what is needed…He sees our storms way ahead of us. He won’t intervene unless we ask, He will stop and check on us, but if we don’t follow, He won’t force us. It’s your choice. We are out here for you all… As always….Novice or not…Mary G.

I know a guy…He went through a major storm. Knew he was going to go through it too. As a matter of fact, he told all of his brothers about it. He told them he was going to be betrayed, mocked, beaten up, whipped, and killed, but after three days he will rise again. Yes, you guessed right. I am talking about Jesus. That is found in the book of Mark chapter 10. You see even Jesus knew long before it was time that he was going to go through all that he did and yet he still went to Jerusalem, and he still followed through the storm just for you and me. What’s on the other side of your storm? What is motivating you to push through to get to the other side of it and survive? I can tell you what it is for me…you and many others just like you. It’s my family and my friends, neighbors and strangers. Why? Because we all need each other! And if we cannot stand through the storm, how are we going to help someone else through their storm? So, my story at the beginning may end like this…“As I continued in my fury to beat the storm, I came upon another rider on the side of the road, ‘Aw man…,’ I thought, ‘I don’t want to stop, I want to beat this storm!’ I stopped. ‘What’s the problem?’ One look in her face let me know she was a

TRO & ReasonsToRide.com JOIN THE MACHINE GUN PREACHER Thunder Roads Ohio launches campaign to support Sam Childers and his missions. On Sunday, August 25th; Thunder Roads Ohio announced our intention to help support Sam Childers – The Machine Gun Preacher – and his missions around the world. As part of an event with Armored Disciples Motorcycle Ministry and other riding ministries in the Cleveland area, we welcomed Sam to Cleveland for an afternoon at Rocky River Baptist Church. While there, the Machine Gun Preacher shared his own personal experiences and looked beyond his own missions in life to challenge us all to make a difference. If you’re not familiar with Sam Childers and the work he’s done – it’s a story that you need to hear. In the simplest of terms, he is a biker from Pennsylvania that traveled to Africa back in 1998 and witnessed atrocities that ended turning his world upside down. He has since literally saved the lives of THOUSANDS of children that in many cases had been simply left to die. That’s not dramatics or an overstatement. These were orphans that had lost their parents to the violence that has ravaged Sudan, Uganda, and the region for more than 50 years. In this part of Africa, there were no governmental social services for children. And the violence and horrors were simply so overwhelming that many traditional missionary and aid

organizations simply withdrew from the region. It was a situation so bad that news organizations and even the worlds governments simply looked the otherway. But along comes Sam Childers, a BIKER from Pennsylvania, and he took it upon himself to make a difference. One man on a mission to save the lives of children. Instead of being overwhelmed by the challenge – he SIMPLY DID IT. He did what nobody else seemed capable of doing – and he’s been saving the lives of children ever since. For more on Sam Childers and his organization – Angels of East Africa, googgle them online or visit their Facebook page (www. Facebook.com/MGP) @MachineGunPreacher. You can also visit our websites and follow our social media pages for updates on his work and how YOU can help. Back when we started Thunder Roads Ohio in 2011, we first crossed paths with Sam and learned of his work. I was already aware of the atrocities in Sudan after meeting a war refugee from the region while I was in school years before – so I felt a calling to help however I could. We supported a few appearances and helped share his story. But as happens in life, we became distracted with the realities of our own lives and we lost touch. Then it just “so happened” that Sam would be in Florida this past Spring while we were in Daytona for Bike Week. And then “coincidentally” it turned out that Sam would be in Ohio this Spring for a Bike Blessing with the Kingdom Knights Motorcycle Ministry in Akron. I had the opportunity to catch up with Sam and do an interview – which you can find on our facebook page and website. In doing so, we had a simple question – “What’s going on with the Machine Gun Preacher – ten years later, what’s happened with your mission?” To which his reply was even simpler – “I never stopped.” We will share more of his story and work over the coming months and you can find more online, but the simple truth of his life and all that he’s accomplished was exactly what we needed to hear after all we’ve been through over the past year. It was the inspiration for a new charitable initiative and focus for our organization – Mission 2022.

MISSION 2022: And the Machine Gun Preacher Bike Mission 2022 for us is all about launching a new initiative that is focused purely on making a difference. It’s not about politics, race, past history, or any other drama or excuses that might overwhelm or distract us. This isn’t JUST about saving the LIVES of children in Africa – it’s about waking us up and inspiring us to make more of our own lives. Sure there’s A LOT of craziness going on in the world – but we CAN NO LONGER simply leave it to others to fix. We all can’t travel to Africa, nor should we. We have plenty that we can do in our own corner of the world – or even just here in the United States. But in supporting SAM’S WORK – we can help energize change in our own communities.

Our belief is that MISSION WORK and helping others is inspiring and can fuel change in our own lives. We’ve partnered with Sam’s organization – Angels of East Africa, LLC (a 501c3 organization) and Western Reserve Charities, Inc, to launch a campaign to not only support their work in Africa and organizations working to make a difference in our own communities right here in Ohio and the US. A central piece of this effort is a campaign to raffle off Sam’s own personal bike – a Harley-Davidson Street Glide that he had customized in his Pennsylvania shop. It’s one of the original MACHINE GUN PREACHER motorcycles and really a cool bike with a unique look and history. We are now helping to collect donations which give you the chance to win this motorcycle – while helping to both support the work of SAM and his organization AND local charities right here in Ohio. Over the next several months we are going to share more and more about both Sam Childers and his work – as well as local individuals and organizations that are working in our own communities. Through the Bike Raffle and other initiatives you can help support these efforts and be a part of the change we need.

We can NO LONGER simply wait for others to fix our communities and consequently our NATION as a whole. We need to step up ourselves. You can find out more and get your tickets online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com.

Thanks to David Eggert, NEO Pro Imaging, for photos.

TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES ALL ARE WELCOME!

We’ve always believed that the best thing about our bike show series is the people that both exhibit and attend. This isn’t just about the bikes – but about the people building and riding them as well. After doing these shows for more than 10 years, its great seeing how many connections and friendships that have developed over the years between folks coming to the shows. There’s a common bond that exists between riders – and there’s even more of a connection between the folks that take the time to restore, customize, or even create their own bikes. People start talking about what they’ve built, what they have at home, and what they rode up to the show.

AUG 2022 UPD ATE!

It's important to recognize that these are INFORMAL, RIDE-IN SHOWS! While we do use Judges at most shows, the majority of the votes come from the crowd. These are fun shows with the emphasis on camaraderie more than competition. If you’ve ever stormed out of a show after not winning the big trophy – these shows aren’t for you. If you’ve got a bike you’re proud of – we’d like to invite you to join in and put her in the show. Even if you’ve never shown her before – that’s ok. We’re all family here. Even if you don’t know anyone else exhibiting or even attending the event, no worries. You can rest assured that by the end of the day, you will have meet new brothers and sisters that you share a common bond with – a love of riding and two wheel machines. Make sure that you check out our events listing on Facebook and follow the ones that are of interest to you. We will be posting updates and more details about the shows and new programs as things are finalized. www.Facebook.com/ThunderRoadsOhio

THE RODEOS RETURN!

The Easyriders rallies return – with new entertainment and a new location, but more of a focus on their traditional concept!

The motorcycle community is one built upon on a history of legendary rebels, riders, and racers. And at the center of most of these stories are rides, rallies, and other events that bring bikers together in a celebration of freedom and the open road. None of which are more iconic than the legendary EASYRIDERS RODEOS! And thankfully, we still have an opportunity to join in the fun and create our own experiences at this year’s Rodeo Tour Stops which happen to be held in our own backyard! After what has undoubtedly been a few challenging years for everyone, Easyriders Events is back with two “old school” motorcycle rallies that celebrate the traditional themes that have defined what a “biker event” truly is. The rodeos feature dirt track motorcycle rodeo competitions on two-wheeled iron ponies, live music, on-site camping, and thousands of bikers just letting loose! If you’ve never been to a “motorcycle rodeo” – there really are traditional rodeo events such as barrel racing that bring out some of the best riders in the country to compete. And then there are the uniquely motorcycle competitions – such as tire drags, weenie bites, and the high horsepower motorcycle drags. For those who want to get in on the Rodeo Returning Crowd action, the dirt track offers something for Favorites include everyone. Attendees can participate in the Lisa Ligon and her fan favorite Barstool Races, in which they Purrfect Angelz, race –you guessed it– a motorized barstool Jasmine Cain, against friends and strangers through a winding track bordered by hay bales. The Bar Stool Races action-packed races are just as exciting and other Classic to participate in as they are to watch from Motorcycle Rodeo the grandstands – as they always deliver Events, Oh – and unbeatable entertainment. There are a of course – THE variety of additional events that are open to the public, and the sign-up cost of your CAMPGROUNDS! first rodeo event is included in the price of a weekend wristband. Details are available on-site and all are encouraged to participate and truly become a part of the rodeo experience. When the sun goes down, the party just kicks up a gear with some of America’s best biker bands taking the stage. Each rodeo has their own line-up which includes performers such as JASMINE CAIN, TEN TON MOJO, Smile Empty Soul, Adelitas Way, and CrazyTownx. Both onstage and off – Lisa Ligon will be returning to help host the event. She and her Purrfect Angelz (PurrfectAngelz.com) will be performing dance and fire shows throughout the Rodeo – Day and Night! They are certainly worth the trip themselves! Beyond the stage, Rodeo attendees will be able to camp on-site for the duration of the events. Easyriders Events offers all amenities

on-site for guests including shower and bathroom facilities, allowing enthusiasts to maximize their time on-site throughout the weekend. The idea is to make the events a complete destination – offering an escape from modern day stresses. “Easyriders Rodeos are strictly 18 and over events that offer unparalleled opportunity for participants to transcend their normal everyday lives and really let their hair down. For many, these events are an annual getaway from work, the kids and the stresses of everyday life,” says Kari Roben, Event Manager. There will be a multitude of unique motorcycle-related vendors setting up shop on the rodeo midway; including motorcycle professionals, builders, parts & accessories manufacturers, riding gear, leather smiths and jewelry designers. Vendor Opportunities may still remain for both locations, but they are going fast. Contact Donna-Rae Clark @ 1-800-962-9857, dclark@easyridersevents.com for more information. CHILLICOTHE vs. BLOOMVILLE OH? So, after so many years that the name of the town is synonymous with the Rodeo – Easyriders has had to pull out of Chillicothe and head up to a new location north a few hours. In this new era of “woke” folks – the Rodeo is certainly a challenge for many to understand, let alone accept. Make no mistake, it’s not for everyone. So with the turn of elections and an “unfortunate series of incidents” – the fairgrounds wouldn’t renew the contract with Easyriders. So, they were forced to find a new location for their Ohio event. Cole Farm is a privately owned venue that has held concerts and events for years. It’s location makes it more centrally located from Toledo, Cleveland and Columbus – even Detroit is a more convenient drive. The camping and concert area covers more than 150 acres – more than enough space for folks to spread out and enjoy themselves! For folks bemoaning the move, clearly the venue wasn’t the attraction or cause for celebration all of these years. It was the people, the entertainment, and the atmosphere that the event organizers have spent so much time recreating. Now, they have a chance to start anew, with a new location. As they are looking to refocus on the more traditional event and their “biker roots” – this might be just what they needed. For any serious “Biker” there are a few rides and rallies that either fall on the “Been there - Done That” brag list or they are on the Bucket List of things to do. Sturgis and Daytona would be essential pilgrimages to make at some point; and the Easyriders Rodeo’s would be another such event. A biker experience that folks often try to duplicate – but should really be experienced as John Green intended by anyone really worth their leathers. Hope to see you there!

MSTA National Sport Touring Rendezvous (STAR) 2022 Cape Girardeau, Missouri, June 18-23 - By guest author Jerry James, Moto Adrenaline Tours This year’s MSTA national STAR rally headed to the shore of the Mississippi river in Cape Girardeau. Due to hot weather in the forecast, Jeff Dolence and I trailered the 460 miles to the event on Friday, June 17. On the way we encountered wind and thunderstorms in Kentucky so the truck and trailer were a good choice.

soup, hot dogs, soft drinks etc. In addition, each guest gets a card that entitles them to three free drinks per day, including draft beer, wine, and mixed drinks. I enjoyed Margaritas and Bloody Marys each day, and it was a great opportunity for everyone to relax and socialize. I am told that this is a standard feature of Drury hotels nationwide.

There were already many folks hanging out in the lobby. It looked like old home week as riders were smiling,

laughing and hugging it out! It resembled a family reunion. Our hosts, Drury Hotel and Conference Center offered some unique benefits for food and drink. The large breakfast area off the lobby had a full hot breakfast buffet that included pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs, potatoesjust about anything you could want.

On Saturday evening we took a shuttle bus to the old downtown by the river with some of the STAR faithful. We ate at the Minglewood Brewery on the patio, while a slight breeze kept everyone very comfortable. We enjoyed our pizza and conversation and got to see the beautiful murals painted on the walls by the banks of the Mississippi. Due to the predicted hot sunny days, we adopted the format of riding early, leaving at 7AM Sunday morning to do the Elephant

For dinner there was a nice bar/restaurant, but most of the attendees were quite happy with “Kickbacks.” From 5:307 PM in the breakfast area, Kickbacks is a free buffet including pork BBQ sliders, baked potatoes, salad, nachos & chips, 28

Rocks route. It was a 260 mile spirited ride west into the forests and rolling countryside, but we still made it back to the hotel before noon just as the temperature reached about 90.

The humidity stayed low and our early ride format worked again Monday on the 300 mile Bixby route. Roads were in good shape and traffic was light. There were some twisties along with lots of sweepers. Getting back by noon had it benefits- plenty of time to get a shower, change clothes and rest. Later in the afternoon there was plenty of time to catch up with friends, kick tires and tell stories. That’s the reason we come to MSTA rallies- the people. If you have not attended a STAR, Regional or Just- for-Fun event, you are missing out! Evenings were filled with welcome ceremonies, members meetings, and seminars from Klim and other event vendors. Tuesday is traditionally “Lunch Ride” day, and this year’s lunch stop was the famous Lambert’s Cafe in Sikeston, Missouri, “Home of Throwed Rolls.” It’s a huge place that seats over six hundred diners. Most entrees include two sides, plus there are servers circulating with free “shareables-” apple butter, macaroni & tomatoes, fried potatoes & onions, black-eyed peas and fried

Jerry James operates Moto Adrenaline Tours of Bella Vista, AR “We have been planning awesome motorcycle journeys for over 15 years. Our goal is to organize affordable two-wheeled journeys that create wonderful memories and friendships that last a lifetime. We take care of all of the details. All you have to do is show up and enjoy the ride. Our tours are limited to 8-10 bikes. This allows for a fun and safe riding experience. What are you waiting on? okra. If you want a hot fresh dinner roll, just hold up your hand and one of the servers will throw one across the room to you. Fun atmosphere and plenty of good food! By the time we left Lambert’s, the sun was hot, but we only had about forty miles to run up the interstate to get back to the hotel. Wednesday was another hot day, but we left early and got in a 150 mile route, beating the heat once again. Wednesday before the closing banquet was the group picture. It was quick, and everyone made it back inside to get a drink and hang out some more before the banquet started. The closing banquet is the highlight of every STAR. The food was top notch and everyone truly enjoyed spending time together. There are awards given and more stories shared. It is always a little sad when everyone leaves after the banquet. Tomorrow everyone will be loaded up and head back home, with lifelong memories from this years event. Thanks everyone for a great experience!

MOTO CAMPING : MUSKEGON Brendan Farren, MotoCamping Editor ReasonsToRide.com

This is the time of the year when all the bike events are in full swing. There just isn’t enough time for me to get to all the ones I want to check out. As soon as I get back from a weekend outing I scour Thunder Roads Michigan online event calendar and try to plan for a couple bike nights and also a bigger weekend event that I can camp at and meet a bunch of new folks. This month it happened to be in my home state of Michigan. Muskegon Bike Time/Rebel Road happened this month and that was all I needed to see. I did my typical online search for nearby motorcycle friendly campgrounds but was coming up empty on anything with openings for that weekend. My procrastination got me again. Against my better judgement I bit the bullet and started hotel shopping and quickly realized that the prices were going to be way higher than I wanted to spend per night. I weighed some options like my brother Adam’s place an hour north in White Cloud. I noticed online that ABATE of Michigan was hosting the camping on the Bike Time grounds. I immediately shot an email to them seeing if they had any spots available for the weekend. A very short time later I received a call back from Tiny saying they could take care of me. Off I went. I requested Friday afternoon off from my “normal” job and was immediately given the time I needed. I thought, “that was easy”. I wondered why my boss was being so cavalier about my time off requests for these bike outings. I like to think he is a great guy and not the alternative which is maybe I am not as valuable of an employee as I like to think. I decided it was because he is a great guy and not the latter.

The weather was looking great all the way up until the day of the event when suddenly it called for rain. Pure Michigan. I decided to take the truck to not be caught in the rain and headed up. It was roughly two hours away and and easy drive despite some traffic snarls. I found a place to park and found a fair amount of people around and bikes out despite the light but steady rain. As I wandered into the event area I quickly saw a face that is pretty recognizable all over the state, Hobo Bud the man himself. I was excited for the celebrity sighting and promptly introduced myself I chatted with him for a bit and got my picture taken. We spoke a bit about perhaps a collaboration moto-camp article and the possibility of him joining the Thunder Roads family. Stay tuned to see if we can make that happen. Moving through the event I came across my second familiar face none other than Shelly and the girls, Connie, Jaycee and Samantha from Michigan Biker Law!! This team is always nice to see and are always in good spirits even this time with the weather being sub-par. Shelly’s Michigan Biker Law was one of, if not THE biggest sponsor of Rebel Road 2022 and their presence was noticed throughout the event! It is really cool to me that they are so active in and also supportive of the Michigan biker community. Shelly had the entire event map memorized and quickly explained where I could find everyone and everything (next time I will even write it down so I can remember). As day one wound down and the weather not improving I made the decision to drive the two hours home and not set up the tent. Waking up for day two the weather was cooperating so I chose to take the Street Glide up. I strapped my Thunder Roads Michigan and Reasons to Ride banners down along with a couple hundred free magazines and headed up to Muskegon. What a difference a day makes! The attendance and number of motorcycles there on day two was EASILY triple that of day one and grew throughout the day. I contacted Tiny from ABATE to see where the best place was to leave my motorcycle and packs that I brought. Tiny told me where the group was and that he had a spot for my motorcycle and packs. The ABATE of Michigan group has always been fantastic to me at any event I see them. (Keep an eye on thunderroadmichigan.com for upcoming events of theirs) I left the stuff there and headed out on foot to see the crowds and events. I quickly ran out of all my magazines as people eagerly grabbed them as I walked along. It’s always great to see anyone enthusiastic about Thunder Roads Michigan. The sun was out pushing the temps up into the upper 80s as my better looking sidekick and I watched the Michigan Biker Law sponsored stunt show. After it I decided to to take a quick jaunt to Pere Marquette Beach and dip in a cold Lake Michigan. It is an amazing Michigan beach and did the trick to get me cooled

off. Back at Rebel Road I started winding my day down taking in a few wrestling matches that were a bit slower than the big league but pretty entertaining if that’s your thing. I snapped pictures of great people and cool bike builds throughout the rest of the event and was thrilled to see many families out together with very young kids. It is important to teach the kids that will be carrying the torch so to speak. I finished my Rebel Road/ Bike Time ( Harley needs to be part of Rebel Road and drop the Bike Time in my opinion)experience stopping in and out of local watering holes speaking to folks about rides they loved or what events they thought Thunder Roads should catch and cover. That is my favorite part meeting the people being out there shaking babies and kissing hands. Until next time

FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN...

Two women are on a transcontinental balloon voyage. Their hot air balloon is engulfed in fog, their compass gone awry. Afraid of landing in the ocean, they stay adrift for days. Suddenly, the clouds part to show a beautiful meadow below. As they begin to descend, they see a man walking his dog. One of the flyers yells to the figure far below, “Where are we?” The man yells back, “About a half mile from town.” Once again, the balloonists are engulfed in the mist. One flyer says to the other, “He must have been a lawyer.” The other says, “A lawyer! How do you know that?” The first says, “It’s simple, the information he gave us was accurate, concise, and entirely irrelevant. A cheerful truck driver pulled up at a roadside cafe in the middle of the night for a dinner stop. Halfway through his meal, three wild- looking motorcyclists roared up-bearded, leather-jacketed, filthy. For no reason at all, the selected the truck driver as a target. One poured pepper over his head, another stole his apple pie, the third deliberately tipped his coffee over. The truck driver never said one word, just stood up, paid his check, and left. “That truck driver sure ain’t much of a fighter,” sneered one of the bikers. The girl behind the counter, peering out into the night, added, “He doesn’t seem to be much of a truck driver, either. He just ran his truck right over three motorcycles.”

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAG! The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@ gmail.com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! How cool is that?!
