FROM THE PUBLISHER Back to the Basics! Heard a call the other day challenging us to return to the “Basics” or fundamentals in life – and I’ve been thinking about it ever since, considering how that might relate to both my personal life and the magazine. As we come off several years of craziness in terms of restrictions, the Pandemic, and are now struggling with “supply chain” and staffing issues - many events and businesses are re-evaluating a lot of their practices and how they go about things. Certainly, we should ALWAYS re-evaluate things as time passes and we grow – BUT, I think it’s critical that we keep an eye on our core principles. Without a doubt there’s a lot of rampant cynicism and negativity in the world these days – and maybe a lot of it is justified. HOWEVER, we should avoid feeding into it and making that the new “standard” – whenever possible. I think we face similar decisions when it comes to considering “print vs digital”. Ever since we started the magazine, 12 years ago, people have challenged the wisdom of producing a print magazine. It’s always seemed ironic that I would be the one arguing for print – as I’m the one paying for it. If anyone would want to go all digital, I should be the one – especially these days as paper and shipping costs skyrocket. The most frustrating part of this discussion is that as soon as some “marketing experts” hear that we produce a print magazine – they cease to hear anything further. They just hear “print” and consider it as an archaic challenge to everything they’ve learned in their marketing classes or see on their ipads and smart phones. The reality, however, is that we have ALWAYS been focused on digital as a KEY ASPECT of our efforts to connect with riders. That’s why we have over 250,000 DIGITAL SUBSCRIBERS, while many of our competitors have less than 10k or maybe even 5k. Facebook and google track us as having a digital reach of OVER 1,000,000 EVERY WEEK! We didn’t suddenly start looking at digital during COVID, we’ve ALWAYS been focused on it and have spent over 10 years building our online base. But we’ve also ALWAYS maintained a commitment to producing a PRINT edition which is tangible and you can sit down and read. It’s a CORE aspect of what we do – a fundamental value of what we have to offer. Coming off COVID, a lot of magazine are choosing to go all digital because “it’s the new reality”. I disagree COMPLETELY. A tangible magazine that you can hold and turn the pages of is a unique experience. Every page has the potential to present new concepts, ideas, and destinations that you might never have considered before. That’s our mission – and we refine it with a set of core principles that guide our message. If it’s in our magazine -it’s something we recommend and stand behind. Similarly, I believe that we all need to maintain our BASIC CORE PRINCIPLES as we go about our lives. We need to remain dedicated to supporting our NATION and COMMUNITY, our Brothers and Sisters on the road, and our FAITH. We need to maintain a belief that ALL LIVES MATTER – and NOT buy into the negativity that the media and some “leaders” would have us believe. We need to stand behind our beliefs – forged through our own faith and life experiences.

As Told By
THE IRON COWBOY JOIN THE THUNDER ROADS CREW! Lots of opportunities to help out at events, take pictures, serve as a local ROAD REP, or even work from home helping out ONLINE! This is going to be an exciting year as Thunder Roads Ohio and the Iron Cowboy Crew emerge from a few fairly challenging years – just like everyone else.
Thunder Roads Ohio Offers EXPANDED ON-LINE Ride Registration and Ticket Sales Powered by ReasonsToRide.com ReasonsToRide.com (RtR) and Thunder Roads Ohio are now offering the ability to include RIDER REGISTRATION as part of your online event listings and magazine ads. This allows riders to simply and easily sign up for your event without ever leaving the website – and without having to register on-site the day of the event.
However, we are excited about the upcoming year and everything we have going on!
Pre-registration allows you to more accurately plan for your event by having a listing of participants already committed and invested in it. Pre-registration also helps protect your ride from cloudy days that might also have people staying home, but will choose to still come out since they are already pre-paid.
We’ve taken a new approach to events and added over a dozen NEW locations to our calendar – including COUNTY BIKE SHOWS, MORE TATTOO EVENTS, and MORE BIKE NIGHT and RIDE APPEARANCES than ever before! The TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES will be bigger than ever with projected attendance at these events totaling well over 500,000!
RtR is also able to offer RIDE SHIRTS and PATCHES as part of the process as well. Shirts are a great way to promote your event and offer more value to those participating. With advance sales and riders indicating what size shirts they need – you’ll also avoid having to invest in unwanted shirts. You’ll have exactly what you need.
By joining with new partners – we’re also hitting the road to more events out of state, including DAYTONA BIKE WEEK, STURGIS, LONE STAR, and major events throughout the MIDWEST! Online we’ve partnered with ReasonsToRide.com to offer the MOST POWERFUL motorcycle resource on the internet! Through ReasonsToRide.com and now ThunderRoadsOhio.com as well – we can now offer interactive event listings that allow you to view the actual location, map to an event, and even register for the ride or get concert tickets right on our website! And it’s a proven system that processed more than $5 MILLION in ticket sales just last year!
RtR can also help develop graphics and promotional materials – including posters and cards to professionally represent your ride. This helps with sponsorships and encourages ride participation.
PRO TIP: You can add QR codes to your posters and event ads that take riders directly to YOUR unique registration page through Thunder Roads – even on the day of the event!
It's all REALLY EXCITING STUFF – and it means we are growing, with new needs for folks all across Ohio and even out of state! With our expanded online aspects, there is a lot that you can even do from home! It’s pretty cool and the potential is almost limitless. For Riding Organizations – we have great opportunities to partner with Thunder Roads Ohio in your area. We need with events and getting the word out – in exchange we help promote your group’s events as well. There are also opportunities for groups to raise funds for your organization or designated charities by partnering with TRO and covering the local riding community. In most cases, you don’t really need experience and we aren’t looking for professional sales people. That’s really not what we do. We are looking for RIDERS that can help represent TRO and IRON COWBOY at events and rides all across Ohio – and looking ahead, across the Midwest and at some of the largest motorcycle events in the country. It’s going to be a GREAT YEAR – join the team and LET’S RIDE! To find out more, send an email to ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com

You can also create signs with these QR codes to display on-site the day of the event. For Iron Pony’s RIDE FOR THE RHINOS – event organizers were able to use display stands with the QR codes and easy instructions for riders to register online even on the morning of the ride. This expedited the process incredibly and allowed well over 1,000 participants to easily check-in with half as many volunteers involved.

PRESENTS THE DUSTY ARMADILLO BIKE SHOW To benefit Akron Bikers for Boobs Sunday, June 26 Last year, Thunder Roads Ohio teamed up with the crew from Akron Bikers for Boobs (ABfB) to host a Bike Show to benefit Stewarts Caring Center – the designated beneficiary of the ABfB’s annual Ride and year-round charitable campaign. It turned out to be a lot of fun and raised over $1,000 to help support Stewarts. So this year, we’re going to put the band back for another “Bikers for Boobs Bike Show” – but this year, it was decided to take the show out to the World Famous Dusty Armadillo in Rootstown! Throughout the summer, the Dusty Armadillo hosts “Sunday Funday’s” for riders – serving up amazing Bloody Mary’s and fun out of their back patio. For this year’s Bikers for Boobs Bike Show, we are going to kick things up even more – with LIVE MUSIC, RAFFLES, VENDORS, and of course a BIKE SHOW all to benefit Stewarts. With the support of RUBBER CITY HARLEY-DAVIDSON, this year promises to be even bigger than last year’s show. There will be special commemorative placards, baskets, and even women’s classes for the Bike Show. As always, the TRO Bike Shows are relatively informal, fun shows where everyone is welcome. All bikes, all models, and all years – there’s a class and trophies for you! We do encourage everyone to register in advance, though, as we expect bike parking – especially for the show area to be tight. We will be reserving space for all pre-registered bike. You can do so at ThunderRoadsOhio.com Please note that if you’re not able to attend the show, you can still help support Akron Bikers for Boobs, a 501(c)3 charity and their mission by making a donation or possibly sponsoring a raffle basket. You can do it all on the Bike Show registration page at www. reasonstoride.com/event/bfbbikeshow

MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES Mother May I…. We May’ed it! Motorcycle Awareness Month, Bike Blessings everywhere, time to get on those ponies and ride, ride, ride!!!
And just between you and me, I prefer streets of gold to ride on, not burning hot coals where my tires will melt! Just sayin’.
From May 1st through May 31st there’s something going on every weekend, and we are going to be there ready to meet you, pray with you and ride along with you as we all enjoy the great adventures God has put before us! And what an adventure it will be! Up to this point, we have had our Seasons of Refreshing in Columbus, best turnout we have had in a few years! A little shy of 200 in attendance and all were geared up and sent out with a readiness to roll into the season with a fire rekindled in their spirit and a zest for the road. It was a great time! This has certainly been a season of change, hasn’t it? We have seen our fair share of things we couldn’t have dreamed possible happening in our lifetime, haven’t we? Does it bother you? Well, it should. Look, I am just going to be straight with you. I know most of you will say you have heard your grandma say it, or your old Aunt Mae, or your Great Uncle Joe, but this is the real deal…. the time is now. Look around you. There are more questions about if there really is a God today than how to find Him. People have more confidence in thinking that He isn’t, rather than that He is, and most look at the church as a social gathering rather than a spiritual resource. You might say to me, MG…. all that I see in church are hypocrites, judgmental people who only care about money and if I were to walk in there today, they would turn me away. And my answer would be that there are hypocrites in every walk of life from politics to preachers, we can’t control what others do, we can only focus on what we do, and Jesus would never turn you away. How do I know that? Because He didn’t turn me away. Listen, I was not Daddy’s little princess…I was Mama’s little hellion and if she could have, I think she may have buried me in the back yard and said the neighbors did it! But through it all, when Jesus got ahold of my heart, and I totally surrendered my will to His… man it has been a ride to remember!!! Are there still those hypocrites in the church? Probably…do I care? Nope. I’m not there for them, I am there for Jesus ‘n’ ME time. Now you come along. We haven’t got a whole lot of time left and I sure don’t want you to miss out on this wonderful ride! And guess what? It doesn’t stop here! That’s right!! It goes on for eternity!! BOOM BABY!! We get to carry this ride on forever….

Memorial Day: Honoring LCpl. Kareem Nikoui
“Our flag does not fly because of the wind that moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it”. As Memorial Day approaches, this quote keeps popping into my mind more and more. May 30, 2022 is the first Memorial Day since we lost the 13 in Kabul on August 26, 2021. Every time I see the American flag wave, I can’t help but think of these 13 heroes, most of them kids that we lost at Abbey Gate. On April 20, I was lucky enough to spend a couple hours with Shana Chappell as she visited her son, Kareem’s, resting place. Kareem Mae’lee Grant Nikoui is one of our 13 fallen heroes that we lost in Kabul. Kareem was born in January of 2001, the year the war in Afghanistan started and he died the year the war in Afghanistan ended. Kareem was in the 2 1 (2nd Battalion, 1st Marines), an infantry battalion. Ever since Kareem was a toddler he wanted to join the Marines. Possibly inspired by a Marine in his dress blues at the mall, Kareem thought it was so cool and from then on, he would pretend to be a Marine. Thinking it was a phase, his mom got him into other activities: MMA, Jiu-Jitsu and boxing. He was a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu and competed in tournaments. In Jiu Jitsu, he earned the title of World Champion and 4 time National Champion. No matter how much he succeeded in other areas and activities, Kareem’s dream of being a Marine still held strong. He would design video games with his characters being Marines. For his niece and nephew, he made little Marine cut outs and would design a little war base for them to play with. His dreams were always supported and encouraged which gave Kareem the incredible drive he had to fulfill and accomplish his goals. Right when he turned 18, Kareem signed up for the Marines. He had other options, opportunities and paths that he could have taken but this is what Kareem wanted to do with his life, he wanted to make it a career. As Kareem was stationed at Camp Pendleton, he was able to go home to Norco(CA) on weekends. Bringing his Marine friends with him on weekends, they 14
thought they were in for a relaxing time. But what Kareem thought was relaxing was different from what his friends thought. Kareem loved hiking and being active. He would have his friend hike the hills by his house and take them to the river bottom and have them go through the sand, they relaxed “his” way. Kareem was a very funny and very caring young man. He was the kind of person who helped without the need for recognition, he just simply was a good person. After Kareem died, the stories of those he helped started being shared with his mom. She received multiple emails from Marines that Kareem served with. They all shared a similar story: they were new and unfamiliar, Kareem would spot them and start talking to them. He would ask them all the same question, “When you’re at home, what do you like to do?” To Kareem, being at home was is safe place, the place where he could relax and that’s how he got these guys to feel less homesick. They said they missed home but after talking with Kareem, they would feel better. He didn’t allow anyone to get picked on, if he saw it happening he would walk over and walk those individuals away. It seems no matter how long or how well people knew Kareem, they all remember their interactions with him.

TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES
ALL ARE WELCOME! We’ve always believed that the best thing about our bike show series is the people that both exhibit and attend. This isn’t just about the bikes – but about the people building and riding them as well. After doing these shows for more than 10 years, its great seeing how many connections and friendships that have developed over the years between folks coming to the shows. There’s a common bond that exists between riders – and there’s even more of a connection between the folks that take the time to restore, customize, or even create their own bikes. People start talking about what they’ve built, what they have at home, and what they rode up to the show. It's important to recognize that these are INFORMAL, RIDE-IN SHOWS! While we do use Judges at most shows, the majority of the votes come from the crowd. These are fun shows with the emphasis on camaraderie more than competition. If you’ve ever stormed out of a show after not winning the big trophy – these shows aren’t for you. If you’ve got a bike you’re proud of – we’d like to invite you to join in and put her in the show. Even if you’ve never shown her before – that’s ok. We’re all family here. Make sure that you check out our events listing on Facebook and follow the ones that are of interest to you. We will be posting updates and more details about the shows and new programs as things are finalized. www.Facebook.com/ThunderRoadsOhio

VINTAGE & VETERANS DISPLAYS This year we are teaming up with a number of Ohio county fairs to help incorporate motorcycles into more of their programming. This will include several new BIKE SHOWS as part of county fairs across the state. We are excited at the opportunities this will allow as we showcase unique and classic motorcycles in front of thousands attending county fairs – that in some cases have been going on for more than 150 years! For several of the counties, we will be hosting VINTAGE & VETERANS motorcycle exhibits. In most cases these will be held in either indoor or covered areas and run the duration of the fair. We are inviting anyone with a motorcycle 25 years or older, a military model, or any make or model with a military / patriotic theme to participate. Selected bikes will be sponsored by Thunder Roads Ohio, showcased as part of the exhibit, and then featured as part of the feature bike show on the designated day. Selected exhibitors will receive a wristband / pass for the duration of the fair and a special VINTAGE & VETERAN’S EXHIBITOR bike show shirt at no cost to them. There will be a limited number of spots available for these displays, so we encourage anyone interested in participating to please submit a photo of their bike and information on it to BikeShowInfo@gmail.com. SHOW PICTURES We’ve posted over well over 30,000 Bike Show and event pictures on our Facebook page, with most sorted in Albums by the particular shows. If you’re home and feel like reminiscing about warmer days out on the bike, take a few minutes and check them out. You’re welcome to tag and share these as you’d like. We are working with some new partners to offer the ability to easily get these printed and sent to you – with just a few clicks. Hope to have an announcement on that shortly. Currently, however, we do have the means to get you posters – even big vinyl banners for your garage – of any images we have. Our partner, NEO PRO IMAGING ( www.neoproimaging.com ) is able to do some amazing things with pictures – such as metal or acrylic prints suitable for mounting on the wall or professionally displaying. OHIO BIKE WEEK 2022 May 27 - June 5, 2022 Sandusky Ohio www.OhioBikeWeek.com
After two years off, we are finally returning to the streets of downtown Sandusky for our annual north coast motorcycle rally – OHIO BIKE WEEK, The Largest Motorcycle Event in the Midwest! And it’s been far, far too long.. Over the past two years, a lot has changed in the world – and not even Sandusky was immune to the winds of change. The empty lot next to Mad River Harley-Davidson is now home to a “chicken place” and downtown Sandusky has undergone several phases of “civic improvements”. New sidewalks, parks, and various redevelopment all over the city has forced a number of changes to things – but as always, the folks at Ohio Bike Week have adapted and come through with 10 days of riding and rockin for riders! Ohio Bike Week is fairly unique amongst the Nation’s Major Rallies – and yes, it’s one of the big ones! It started as a HOG Rally hosted by community organizers – but then transformed into an open call for riders to come and celebrate the start of riding season on Ohio’s North Coast. The ten days of rides and activities culminate with the “World Famous Block Party” the 2nd weekend on the streets of downtown Sandusky. With all of the changes going on in downtown Sandusky, OBW really had to change things up and had a lot less space for vendors downtown. They still managed, however, to get numerous stages downtown – and once again, all of these shows are FREE!! Yes, that’s right – the shows are FREE, no ticket needed for you to enjoy the concerts. Ohio Bike Week is once again offering a VIP AllAccess Pass which allows you to get upfront and personal with the performers. A limited number of these are available for purchase through OhioBikeWeek.com These always include a lot of bang for the buck – and are a great way to show your support for the Rally.

OHIO BIKE WEEK BIKE SHOW Thunder Roads Ohio will once again be hosting the Official OBW Bike Show downtown on the water, with registration and bikes exhibited on the Barrel House Pier during the Block Party – Saturday, June 4th. This is an informal, ride-in bike show like no other – with over $2,500 in Cash and Prizes, including trophies and placards for winners across more than a dozen possible classes. All makes and models are welcome, and winners will be chosen through a system of public voting with weighted judges’ ballots. It’s a relatively casual approach that lends itself to a day of fun and camaraderie amongst folks with a love for two wheeled (and three) iron.
Over $2,500 in Cash, Trophies, and Placards will be awarded to participants. We would strongly encourage everyone to register in advance for this show. Not only will you save a few dollars and get a free show t-shirt, you’ll also have a spot reserved for you on the pier. Space will be a premium and priority will certainly be given to those registering in advance. You can register and find out more on this at ThunderRoadsOhio.com or on the Ohio Bike Week Bike Show Facebook event. (www.Facebook.com/ThunderRoadsOhio)
JACK DANIEL’S BARREL HOUSE SALOON Certainly, our favorite place to escape to during the Block Party is the back outside deck at the JD Barrel House. No matter what’s going on a few feet behind you in the Saloon – looking out over the water is amazingly relaxing. Then when you’re ready – turn around and step back into the chaos at the undisputed PARTY HQ of OBW! THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

OHIO BIKE WEEK 2022
The Jack Daniel’s Barrel House Saloon is at the end of the Barrel House Pier – which during Bike Week is stocked full of vendors, motorcycles, an occasional stage and bar or two. But as you make your way back, it’s clear you’re making your way “through court” to reach the KING of BIKE WEEK BARS. This is always where the party is – and this year, the entertainment is second to NONE!
RALLY TIP: Many of the HARD-CORE Party Bands
THUNDER ROADS OHIO
are scheduled for the Barrell House this year – including GRUNGE DNA, OLD SCHOOL, SPAZZMATICS, and even the EARTHQUAKERS. If you’ve never seen OLD SCHOOL – they will ROCK the HOUSE on Friday, June 3rd, going late night til 1am. For those still going – this is probably your best bet for late night craziness!
MAD RIVER H-D With the limited space downtown, most of the vendors will stay out at Mad River Harley-Davidson for all ten days. In the past, many of them came downtown for the Block Party. This year, however, space won’t allow that. In an added twist, though, the field where concerts were held in the past adjacent to Mad River is not longer there. So, there won’t be any big concerts at Mad River this year. Instead, they have focused on more vendors and activities at the dealership itself – rather than the big concerts on the Mad River Campus. These include the new River Saloon. Located in the back of the Mad River lot, this bar and entertainment center will open daily from 11am until 9pm. (Closed on Tuesday, 5/31). Special activities include: •
Sat 5/28 Frozen T-shirt contest 2pm
•

You can stop by and test ride all the new 2022 Harley’s – including the Pan America, the Sportster S, and even ALL THE CVO’s! Demo rides are free and offered 10a-6pm daily, 5/27 – 6/4. They will not be there the last Sunday and will close down if the weather is considered adverse.

JIMMY BUKKETT’S
For locals and those “in the know”, Jimmy Bukkett’s has always been a favorite destination for riders in the area. Located in Fremont – 2815 N County Road, Fremont – Jimmy Bukkett’s is an outdoor bar that hopes to offer a feeling of “Key West” island life a little closer to home. It’s a fun atmosphere with swinging chairs, electric palm trees and live music. Please note that it’s all outdoors – so it’s not a place to head for shelter during a storm. They also only accept cash – but there’s an ATM onsite. The area is also 21+ only after 6pm.

OBW ISLAND PARTY! Saturday, May 28th Noon - @ Jimmy Bukkett’s! One of the apparent casualties of the time away was the OBW Pool Party – a rally favorite for more than 10 years, it apparently had ran its course and could no longer be held at the Comfort Inn. However, the spirit of this event lives on and may become EVEN BIGGER and BETTER as the NEW Ohio Bike Week ISLAND PARTY – hosted by Thunder Roads Ohio and Jimmy Bukkett’s! Sponsored by long time Pool Party partner TWISTED TEA – this party will have a lot of the same elements but with more of an emphasis on the music, dancing, and just having fun. Contests include a CALENDAR GIRL CONTEST for the Ladies, a Limbo Contest for everyone that wants to give it a shot, and other assorted challenges for CASH and PRIZES! Well over $500 in Cash & Prizes will be awarded. If you are interested in participating in the Calendar Girl Contest – please send an email to BikeShowInfo@gmail.com in advance.

Morgan's Raid- A New Adventure/ Historical Route Every time I post a rides project on Facebook, responses come back from people telling about other routes in the area that might be of interest. This month we will look at a new Adventure route based on Morgan's Raid of 1863, a Civil War incursion of the Confederate cavalry into Union states Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. It is named for Confederate Commander John Hunt Morgan.
defend their farms and towns, the logistics of the time, means of communication, and so much of it was just guess-work and luck. The coolest part of the story is that it was just 150 years ago, so a person can still track down many of the buildings, creek crossings, skirmish sites, and visualize what occurred. Some of the farms mentioned along the way are still owned by the same families that owned them in 1863. Where did you get the idea to make an adventure route of it? Like many others, I got into adventure riding and moto camping to get my riding fix without having to commit to racing. I have ridden the Mid Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route, parts of the Trans America Trail, parts of the Kentucky Adventure Tour, and the Smokey Mountain routes. Covering over 1000 miles, the raid's purpose was to draw Union troops away from the Vicksburg and Gettysburg fronts by frightening the North into demanding their troops return home. The raid ultimately failed, and the remainder of the command was forced to surrender in Northeast Ohio near the Pennsylvania border. Fast forward to 2022, and Jim Miller, a motorcyclist from Belpre, Ohio, is in the process of finishing an adventure route that follows the original Morgan's Raid path. I interviewed Jim recently and he has a great story to tell.
I like the idea of what Jeff Stoess is doing with the Kentucky Adventure Tour and trying to encourage tourism in some of the more out of the way rural places. There is no economic windfall to be had here for anyone, but hopefully it generates an appreciation of the roads less traveled. How did you find the actual route? The route turned out to be more of a challenge than just laying out a back roads moto route. There are a series of historical roadside markers that pay homage to the raid of 1863, so I knew I wanted to jump from marker to marker, while avoiding as many paved roads as possible.
How did you get interested in Morgan’s Raid? In about the fifth grade, there was a neighboring school named the “Morgan Raiders”, after the Civil War raid in 1863. That made me curious so I looked it up and did a report on it for history class. The more I learned about the story, the more it intrigued me. It's so much more than just a confederate raid into the North- it includes all the local villages who rallied to 32 32

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE MAGAZINE OHIO’S
There were three websites I relied on to locate the markers: The Historical Marker Database, Civil War Trails, and American Battlefield Trust. I used these sites to put together a map of markers, and then used Gaia GPS and other satellite maps to zero in on roads and connect the dots. Once I had a general route, it all came down to verifying that the roads do exist, because back roads maps often have errors. Then I tried to locate campgrounds, hotels, gas stations, and other points of interest. I want to give a shout-out to Luke Biscan and Blake Wright down in Kentucky, as they made some great suggestions for the Burkesville area.
Can I ride a street bike on this route? All the roads are on legal, public roadways, but I wouldn’t recommend riding a street bike. There is plenty of pavement, but also dirt and lots of gravel. When you get off pavement it can be rough for miles at a time. There is nothing too technical, but several stream crossings will present a significant challenge.
How can people access your work and support it? Go to Facebook and join the Morgan's Raid of 1863 - Adventure Route - Kentucky Indiana Ohio Group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/694392778189363
What is the current status of the project? I still need to test ride a couple hundred miles in Indiana and Kentucky. Some revisions will be needed, and I know that once more eyes get on it, their local knowledge will improve it.
In the Files section, you will find links to download six GPX files that not only contain tracks, but over 350 waypoint locations of historical markers and points of interest that tell the story. If you ride the route, report back any issues like road closings, or traffic pattern changes. Look at the map of the overall route and start with the part nearest you to try it out.
The route begins at the Cumberland River near Burkesville, Kentucky and winds its way North through Indiana, heads East through southern Ohio, and finally ends in northeast Ohio. I haven’t totaled the final length yet, but think it will be more than 1,200 miles. Is this a full-on adventure route like a Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR)? No. Because I focused on the historical markers and the story, I had to go where that led me. For instance, in West-Central Kentucky, I did find some gravel roads. Most roads are paved, however they are very remote, narrow, and twisty. In southwest Ohio, the route goes directly through the suburbs of Cincinnati, so you know that is not like most adventure routes. Connect with local Ohio Motorcycle Sport Touring Association riders at these monthly breakfasts: Southwest Ohio Breakfast, 9AM, May 21 Village Family Restaurant 144 S. Main St. Waynesville, OH 45068 Central Ohio Breakfast Meet - Sunday June 5. Arrive at 8 am to eat, 9 to ride if weather permits. Portside Cafe 6515 S High St Lockbourne, OH 43137

FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN...
A man was walking through a rather seedy section of town, when a bum walked up to him and asked the man for two dollars. The man asked, "Will you buy booze?" The bum replied, "No." Then the man asked, "Will you gamble it away?" The bum said, "No." Then the man asked the bum, "Will you come home with me so my wife can see what happens to a man who doesn't drink or gamble?" A family had twin boys whose only resemblance to each other were their looks. Opposite in every way, one was an eternal optimist, the other a doom and gloom pessimist. Just to see what would happen, on their birthday day their father loaded the pessimist’s room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist’s room he loaded with horse manure. That night the father passed by the pessimist’s room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly. “Why are you crying?” the father asked. “Because my friends will be jealous, I’ll have to read all these instructions before I can do anything with this stuff, I’ll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken.” answered the pessimist twin. Passing the optimist twin’s room, the father found him dancing for joy in the pile of manure. “What are you so happy about?” he asked. To which his optimist twin replied, “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!”

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAG! TRO SCAVENGER HUNT
The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@ gmail.com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! How cool is that?!
