STREET PHOTOGRAPHY NEWS EDITION #1- JUNE 2022
“THE MARVELS OF DAILY LIFE ARE EXCITING; NO MOVIE DIRECTOR CAN ARRANGE THE UNEXPECTED THAT YOU FIND IN THE STREET.” -ROBERT DOISNEAU
WELCOME… Lots has happened since our April update, people thought if was an April fools prank having a Pinhole Street Photography meet! Big thanks to Brendan Comey as always for all the work and dedication he put into our Pinhole meet, unfortunately I was suffering with a back problem and missed it! The Curator of our Insta page and member Liz Stowe won the surrounded by the Sea Exhibition in Dublin, Kevin Lim travelled the long way from Tipperary to lead our May meet and a few hardy souls travelled to the real Capital of Ireland Cork! and met up with local Street Tog Dave Cremins and Marty got a Brilliant Shot!
Ami Strachan in Scotland is running these free meetups till November so they maybe worth looking into for cheap flights, it cost me fifty three euros to go to Cork on the Train and its possible to fly to Edinburgh for the same price, if not cheaper. The first International Steet Photography Festival will take place in PISA Italy in September they will be offering a free photo walk, to enter the Competition is ten euro for a single image, which is pretty good, The Festival is a first edition, it will take place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September in Pisa at “le scale sopra la loggia dei banchi” in via degli Uffizi N1 (Palazzo del Comune). Municipality of Pisa and organized by the TILT association. Street Photographer Conferences and the Award Ceremony will be held in the prestigious “Sala Baleari” hall on Saturday 24th, while Photowalks will take place on Sunday 25th (registration via the contact form is recommended but participation and ‘totally FREE) The exhibition of the finalists of the Contest and of the Judges will be visible both days and free for everyone.
Can you do hand held pinhole street photography- I think it’s a yes! Should you do it - a firm maybe. Two of my favourites are the one at the often captured area around the temple bar pub - I feel the pinhole camera brought something new here and I liked the guy in the Karate outfit because he just seemed so out of place. Also made some portraits of Miren, David and BoB my camera was a pinhole converted Fed 3 with a pinhole body cap, Lorraine’s shot of the temple bar was with a “pinholga” film was Ilford delta 3200 in 35mm and Rollei RPX 400 in 120. Thanks again Des for having me - not sure if I’ll be invited back

Congratulations Liz Stowe the Winner.. Surrounded By Sea’ is a photography exhibition brought to you by Irish artists Karen Cowley (Wyvern Lingo) and Ruth Medjber in aid of Refugee Rescue. As seen in a beautiful spread in The Irish Independent’s Weekend Magazine and heard in discussion with RTE 2FM’s Jennifer Zamparelli. Over 400 members of the public submitted photo entries depicting what the sea means to them. After having to reschedule dates due to restrictions last December, all submissions were displayed at the ‘Surrounded By Sea’ exhibition from the 1st to the 3rd of April inclusive, at The Dean Arts Studio in Dublin.
Lim leads the way.. There is always an excitement around the meets when I announce that Kevin LIm will be attending, I'm really not sure how Kevin finds time to take a shot, as he is always busy teaching and educating the photographers whom listen intently to every word he says, and last Mays meet was no different, we had intended on having a Street Noir, Shadows and Light Theme, but the Irish weather had other plans. Our next meet is the Pride parade in Dublin on Saturday 25th June starting at Dublin Castle at 11.30am as the Parade starts at 12 noon, this is also our 9th Birthday , please follow or Facebook page or Insta page #igersstreets for more information, this will be followed by the Bray Airshow meet in July with drinks upstairs in the Harbour bar from 5pm.
