Creation of the Cosmos The Creation of the Cosmos is a tale originally from Norse mythology. This story is about giving life to the universe, performed by the Gods, where order was created from chaos. The original story of the creation of the Cosmos was found back in 1800 BCE, as rock carvings in Scandinavia.

in the begining There was no soil, sky, no green, only perfect silence. This void of cold darkness was named Ginnungagap, where it lived between the element ice, Niflheim and fire, Muspelheim. As it lay between ice and fire, Ginnungagap was the divider between the two elements so that they do not cross over. One day, embers from Muspelheim and cold air frost from Niflheim were able to move closer, eventually meeting in the middle of Ginnungagap. The fire melted the ice, where the droplets fell, and from them rose Ymir. Ymir was the first God, and the first existence of pure evil, with his purpose to cause destruction in the universe. His name comes from the old Norse verb, translating to Screamer. Filled with a dark heart and wrath, Ymir had a thirst to destroy, causing chaos to prove his power.

order from chaos Odin and his brothers fought for peace and life. They faced off against Ymir in a mighty battle, in order to end all chaos and abolish evil from the universe. Odin and his brothers tore apart Amir’s body, transforming his body parts into elements that would form the new earth. As a result, they would rid the universe from destruction, creating peace and new life.

peace The God’s transformed Ymir’s body to create a new, beautiful earth. Peace, fresh air, new life, with no threat of evil to be seen. All new beings could now live in peace, with bright futures, and a pure earth to thrive and grow on.
