Summer W ellneSS

As the temperature rises and the sun shines brighter, summer offers a wealth of outdoor activities and a chance to soak up some of that much needed Vitamin D. However, it's crucial to prioritize your health and safety in the face of scorching heat. With a few key tips, you can enjoy the summer while keeping your body cool, hydrated, and protected.

The most important rule for staying healthy in the summer heat is to stay hydrated. Sweating, coupled with increased outdoor activities, can easily lead to dehydration. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day, not just when you feel thirsty. It’s easier to meet your daily needs if you carry a reusable water bottle. Include hydrating fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumbers, and citrus fruits in your diet and try to avoid caffeinated or alcoholic beverages as they can contribute to dehydration.

Known as the Gateway to the Grand Canyon, this charming town in Arizona’s High Country is home to several blocks of Route 66 nostalgia and outdoor opportunities for all types of adventurers. Take a ride on the Grand Canyon Railway for some spectacular scenic views or enjoy the wildlife at Bearizona Wildlife Park. Williams also offers a wide range of accommodations, including historic motor lodges and delicious restaurants.

You’ll also want to choose lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to combat the summer heat. Light fabrics such as cotton or linen allow for better air circulation, aiding in the evaporation of sweat. Maybe opt for a wide-brimmed hat paired with a flowy summer dress if you’re venturing out.

Sunscreen is always a must and try to plan your outdoor activities wisely to avoid the hottest part of the day. Try to engage in physical activities during the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. If you must be outside during peak heat, take frequent breaks in shaded areas or air-conditioned spaces. Always listen to your body and pace yourself, allowing for rest and recovery as needed.

One last bit of advice that may surprise you: maintaining a balanced diet can drastically affect your body’s ability to regulate temperature. Include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to support your immune system. Opt for lighter, refreshing meals that are easily digestible, and incorporate lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats into your diet. These food choices provide essential nutrients and promote overall well-being.

By following these essential tips, you can enjoy a healthy and active summer while protecting yourself from the scorching heat. Wear sunscreen daily, dress in lighter, breathable fabric, enjoy light and healthy meals and last but certainly not least: drink plenty of water.

Can’t get enough golf? You’ve come to the right place! Arizona is home to numerous award-winning golf locations that draw visitors from around the world year after year. Many come to tee off in the dry sunny weather … and then wonder why they don’t live here year round. For those who’d like to do more than visit, why not settle down permanently in one of Arizona’s top rated golf communities.

The Scottsdale area boasts numerous golf communities, from luxurious gated developments to more laid back neighborhoods. If you’re seeking out the top golf courses above all else, consider Troon North Golf Club, in Scottsdale. Boasting two unique courses designed by renowned architects Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, this is the spot for breathtaking vistas and must-play greens. Another top course is at The Boulders Resort & Spa, also in Scottsdale, which offers two challenging Jay Morrish-designed courses set amidst unforgettable rocky Southwestern landscapes.

If luxury and high-end amenities are more what you’re after, consider these communities: Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, set in a private, gated community featuring no less than six Jack Nicklaus-designed courses. There is also a spa, a fitness center, tennis facilities, and fine dining options. Estancia, in North Scottsdale, boasts a Tom Fazio-designed golf course that blends into the natural landscape of nearby Pinnacle Peak, as well as fitness and tennis facilities. Also in North Scottsdale is Mirabel, a luxurious gated golf community tucked into the natural beauty of the Southwest desert and mountains. With a limited membership, this community is centered around a challenging Tom Fazio-designed course.

For those with a family in tow, check out Grayhawk Golf Club, also located in Scottsdale. With two championship golf courses, multiple pools, and tennis courts, as well as many family-friendly events, this community works well for busy broods. DC Ranch is another family-friendly community in North Scottsdale, located at the base of the McDowell Mountains. DC Ranch offers panoramic views of Scottsdale and Phoenix, multiple neighborhood parks, 33 miles of paths and trails for hiking, and numerous events for families.

And for those looking for a 55-plus resort community, check out Trilogy at Verde River, just east of North Scottsdale. Verde River offers a gated community set adjacent to Tonto National Forest and a newly redesigned golf course by PGA standout Tom Lehman. Ultimately, there’s nothing quite like golfing in Arizona… except, of course, living and golfing in Arizona!
