SCE Installs Fire-resistant Equipment West of DHS

The West of Devers Project is located in a portion of the existing Devers Rightof-Way corridor, which traverses the incorporated and unincorporated communities of Banning, Beaumont, Calimesa, Colton, Grand Terrace, Loma Linda, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, San Bernadino, and Yucaipa in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The Project will replace existing overhead conductors and poles with new equipment, including insulated lines, fire-resistant power poles, and cross arms. The insulated lines will be buried, and the bars and crosses will be coated with a flame retardant to mitigate the risk of wildfires further.

The project will also add fire-resistant transformers and associated equipment and relocate some existing underground circuits from the Devers Right-of-Way to other locations for reliability. The project is needed to support the delivery of electricity from the renewable energy projects being developed in eastern Riverside County to meet California’s ambitious Clean Energy Standard goals.

Southern California Edison has surpassed all goals set in its 2020-2022 Wildfire Mitigation Plan. This includes installing covered conductors and adding fuses to circuits, inspecting and removing thousands of hazard trees, deploying weather stations, and implementing a new
