Though the process demanded time and effort on part of the couple, they were happy to do so as it gave them more reasons to spend time together!

Jasmine Olikh first began chatting casually with Harman Sidhu via emails back in April 2013. But destiny had other plans, and soon, the two were inseparable. The decision to marry was spontaneous, and wedding planning began two months before their selected date in October 2014. From cuisine to the dĂŠcor, everything was to be outsourced to vendors, and march 2015 - WWW.DESHVIDESH.COM

so the couple concentrated their efforts on finding the best. Though the process demanded time and effort on part of the couple, they were happy to do so as it gave them more reasons to spend time together! To make things easier, they also hired a professional wedding planner to help them coordinate the vendors on the day of the wedding. 21

The beautifully lit palm trees in his garden provided the perfect décor along with gobo lighting that projected “Harman weds Jasmine” into the pool.

After a short and sweet engagement, the first grand prewedding celebration for the couple was the sangeet that was held at Harman’s home. Given his home in Orlando was a beautiful and overlooks Lake Butler, the couple mutually agreed it would be the best venue for their sangeet. The beautifully lit palm trees in his garden provided the perfect décor along with gobo lighting that projected “Harman weds Jasmine” into the pool. The food stations were arranged around the pool and included a mix of Indian-fusion, IndianChinese, and Indian-Mexican cuisines. High-energy music

filled the air and entertained guests all through the night. The next morning, the couple opted for a relatively quiet wedding ceremony in accordance to traditional Sikh customs. Held in a ballroom at the Portofino Bay Hotel, a centrally located hotel in Orlando, an intimate crowd of 150 people witnessed the couple form a union. The ceremony program was custom-printed on regal scrolls that were handed out to the guests upon entering the ballroom. For the reception that followed, the couple’s decor appropriately conveyed their love and happiness! A mixture

of floral arrangements of varying heights gave the décor a natural yet sophisticated feel. In addition to regular lights, special lights focused on the stage where the couple was seated on a royal sofa. Red and gold were the colors of the day and defining features of the event’s entire décor. Guests danced through the night as the DJ played popular songs from Bollywood and the latest American hits. To add a traditional touch, the couple also invited a dhol player and bhangra group as well as a live ghazals performances.

In less than two months, Harman and Jasmine were able to realize their dream of getting married according to traditional

Nikki weds Mayur

A

t 27 years-old, Nikki Patel, based in Tampa, and Mayur Patel, who lived in Texas, were both looking for their life partners through the Shaadi.com web portal. Nikki first expressed an interest in September 2013, and one month later, Mayur accepted the request. The two began talking to each other, and what initially was restricted to just a few messages during the day, became long phone calls, emails, texts, and every other means of communicating. Soon, the two met and after dating for nine months, the couple announced their decision to get married. Needless to say, both families were thrilled.

Nikki took on planning for the entire event. The festivities began with an engagement party in July 2014. The coupled hosted the event at the Stamford Marriott in Connecticut with over 500 guests in attendance. Every detail from the food to the decoration was taken care of by Nikki, and the guests enjoyed thoroughly. Soon after the 42

engagement, Mayur moved to Florida, which helped simplify matters as the couple could easily plan. Additionally, Nikki was able to rely on Mayur for all the support that she needed. After a lot of discussion and visiting several venues, the couple chose the Tampa Waterside Marriott as the site for wedding events. The hotel has always been Nikki’s

favorite choice, and it is one of the few venues in Tampa that can comfortably accommodate a guest list exceeding 800 people. The couple chose a Rajasthani theme for the wedding, so décor consisted of bright blues and greens that set the stage for all events. The mehendi ceremony was hosted at Nikki’s house where the Moroccan themed décor

coupled with mouth-watering food ensured that the guests enjoyed themselves. All the pre-wedding ceremonies for Mayur and his family were done at the Stamford Marriott Hotel as most of his family is based there. The couple did hire a wedding planner to coordinate on the day of wedding, but Nikki did most of the planning before then herself. Even the minor details like printing the itinerary for the ceremony to keep the guests informed was on her to-do list. With the help of reliable vendors like All That Shines Event Planning, Fine Art Productions, and the support of the hotel staff, Nikki and Mayur said their wedding vows in a stellar event that has become a memory that they will treasure for a lifetime!

Ananta

march 2015 - WWW.DESHVIDESH.COM

When families are woven into the wedding story, the magic and fun that occurs multiples. Two years after dating Diana, Ananta sought the blessings of her parents and let his family in on his plans for a grand proposal. In the presence of his whole family, Ananta went down on one knee and proposed in style. No girl could have turned him down, and certainly not one who loved him as much as Diana. Though most of Ananta’s family lives in New York and Diana’s in Miami, the couple chose their hometown, Orlando, as the wedding venue. Both were keen on a temple wedding, which worked well not only for the couple, but also for the guests given its central location. With a puja performed by the groom and bride’s families respectively, it was soon time for the allimportant day. The wedding was held in the afternoon. An intelligent choice of bright colors added to the cheerful atmosphere and enhanced its beauty. The use of red, orange, green, and pink with splashes of blue made for an exquisite collage, and drapes, flowers and candles were used throughout to march 2015 - WWW.DESHVIDESH.COM

accentuate the bright colors. Elephant statues adorned the main aisle, as well as the central area. Simple yet elegant programs in maroon were handed to guests as they arrived. The traditional beat of a drum signalled the entry of the groom and his family. With the use of a fog machine, the groom made a grand entrance in his SUV lending the occasion a surreal touch. One of the bride’s cousins played a selected piece on the violin to set the mood before the bride made her appearance. The wedding was soon underway, and after the rituals, a dance performance by the bride’s niece and some fireworks brought the spectacular explosion of color and life to a close. 51

The couple chose to host a reception in Ananta’s home state. The newly married couple and bridal party arrived at the reception venue in a Hummer limousine. The ballroom at the Floral Terrace in New York came to life with pale pink, white and yellow flowers lit up with candles and gold pedestals. Glistening lights and chandeliers reflected the upbeat mood, while cocktails, food and a huge wedding cake catered to the appetite of the guests. The DJ belted out a mix of songs of various genres including Bollywood, hip hop, and reggae. According to the couple, communication and compromise both contribute to a happy marriage. Considering that apart from a little speech that was overlooked things worked perfectly at this wedding, so you should certainly want to follow what they say!

Arpita Khan and Aayush Sharma Salman Khan left no stone unturned for his youngest sister Arpita’s wedding. Celebrities from all industries flew all the way to Falaknuma Palace situated in Hyderabad to attend Aayush and Arpita’s fairy-tale wedding celebrations. Beginning from the venue to the decorations to the cuisines being dished out, everything was lavish. Falaknuma, one of the most beautiful palaces of the Nizam, was picked as the majestic site for the Khan wedding celebrations. Falaknuma or “mirror of the sky” is an allmarble palace, which once was the residence of the sixth Nizam Mir Mahboob Ali Khan. The palace is now a luxury hotel owned by the Taj Group. The scorpion-shaped palace has 220 lavishly decorated guest rooms, 22 spacious hallways, and a stunning 101 seat dining room. Also, Falaknuma houses an exquisite collection of treasures including priceless paintings, statues, manuscripts, and much more. The famed 108-foot-long dining table has been adorned with treasurable gold and crystal tableware and features green leather upholstered rosewood dining chairs. The reception room is bedecked with frescoes and gilded reliefs. The state of the art ballroom features a one-of-a-kind two

ton manual organ. This rare blend of Tudor and Italian architecture gives the rooms an incredibly royal feel. It is only natural that the palace was chosen as the perfect place to host the extravagant Khan wedding. Pink and white dominated as the wedding colors. The entire venue was draped in these

shades, and the flowers, statues and other decor brightened the wedding celebrations. The Khans chose a Victorian theme for the reception. The entire arena was draped in white, and filled with an exquisite collection of flowers and European decorations making sister Arpita feel like Queen Victoria herself.

Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu Soha Ali Khan tied the knot to Kunal Khemu late January 2015 at the Khans’ Mumbai residence in an intimate ceremony. Wedding preparations began when Soha’s boyfriend Kunal Khemu proposed to her in Paris last July. The marriage ceremony was strictly a “family only” affair, after which Soha and Kunal were seen waving to the crowd with sister-in-law Kareena and brother Saif. The Pataudi princess looked gorgeous in a gold-dusted Sabyasachi lehenga,

while Kunal looked dapper in a gold embroidered sherwani. Next to them were Kareena Kapoor Khan, in a champagne pink sari and Nawab Saif Ali Khan, adorned in a crisp white gala bandh with a pink turban. Mother of the bride Sharmila Tagore looked elegant in a white and golden Assamese Chador. While the wedding was attended by just family, Soha and Kunal’s closest friends Karan Johar, Amrita Arora, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia, Sophia Chaudary,

Yuvraj Singh, Arshad Warsi, and Arpita Khan among others were spotted at the wedding reception. For the reception party, the newly wed bride wore a fuchsia pink lehenga designed by Sanjay Garg, while Kunal sported a charcoal black Nehru Jacket with a relaxed blue kurta. The Kapoor sisters were fully clad in Manish Malhotra’s designer collection. The mehendi, wedding and wedding reception décor of the Khans’ Bandra residence looked perfectly royal and lavish.

Shreya Ghoshal and Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya Singer Shreya Ghoshal married her beau Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya in an intimate ceremony in Mumbai in early February 2015. Although, the excited songstress tweeted late January, “Don’t know if I am super nervous or excited... Never felt like this before. Whatever I am up to I will let you know soon ;) but need ur wishes (sic)“, her fans did not know at that time that she was referring to her marriage. The following Thursday, the couple tied the knot and the next morning, she broke the good news by tweeting a stunning selfie with her techie husband on Twitter. Except for their close friends and family, not many were aware about their relationship. It was kept well under wraps. Shiladitya, a tech entrepreneur by profession met Shreya when she moved to Mumbai nearly a decade ago. They were friends for about 10 years and became open about their relationship

just four years ago. Shreya used to often introduce Shiladitya as a friend, but not as her fiancé even to her close ones. But, it

was their sizzling chemistry that made it pretty obvious. At the start of the New Year they decided to get married

and about ten days before the wedding, they sent invites asking friends and family members to block the date for their wedding ceremony. For the wedding, Shreya wore an elegant Banarasi sari with a golden border, and Shiladitya wore a traditional white dhoti. Per Bengali rituals, the wedding began with Gaye Holud followed by Subho Drishti and the Mala Bodol. At around 10:30 pm, her friends lifted the peedi, and the couple took wedding vows. Apart from family members and friends, composer Shantanu Moitra, Joy Sarkar and Jeet Ganguli were also spotted at the wedding.

Why Couples Should Hire a Wedding Planner By Rina Shah, The Arpan Group The novelty of being engaged has worn off and reality hits with full force. There’s a wedding to plan! The entire process can be challenging – from compromising on style to managing the many opinions of all involved. With ample information available online via popular websites such as The Knot, MyShadi, Desh-Videsh, and South Asian Bride as well as a vast array of blogs dedicated to all things wedding, couples feel 76

a bit of information overload. Pinterest will no doubt be both a bride’s best friend and her worst enemy. And while some brides know exactly what they want right down to the seating arrangement at the reception, others are overwhelmed by the myriad of choices. Couples can easily become sidetracked during the beginning stages with the many details to finalize - color scheme, flowers, dresses, cake, march 2015 - WWW.DESHVIDESH.COM

food, and more. Though enjoying the process should be a top priority, becoming bogged down in the details can create undue stress during this special time. Staying organized and focused will ease the process. As you begin planning, Tracie Domino (Tracie Domino Events) suggests couples focus their energy first on budgets, date and venue, and whether to hire a wedding planner. She says couples should “discuss budget and what you really want your wedding to feel like. Decide on your date and your venue. It is pointless to make any other decisions before these are confirmed. Decide if you want a planner sooner than later, because when a planner gets on board right from the beginning, they can create the most value for you with their relationships.” With so many details to plan, family members to keep happy, and a long list of vendors to manage, some couples consider hiring a wedding planner to ease the process. What role does a wedding planner play? Brittany Ellis Cole (Eventrics Weddings) believes that a wedding planner march 2015 - WWW.DESHVIDESH.COM

“becomes an extension of the family for the months the planning process takes place and is someone who should treat each wedding event as if it were his or her own.” Most wedding planners offer a fullrange of services from planning every detail of a wedding to just being the pointperson on the day of the celebration. Wedding planners rely on trusted vendors, remember forgotten details, and serve as a buffer between couples and families to ensure a couple’s wedding vision comes to life. Understanding budget constraints and having a firm grasp of the couple’s style allows wedding planners to choose the right vendors and make the vision reality. Seema Patel and Megha Kothur (Two Ladies and Events) stress that couples can “choose which service is right for them based on the amount of time and commitment they are able to make to wedding planning on their own. As wedding planners our goals are to help take the stress and anxiety out of wedding planning for our clients, help them save money and stick to their budget, and make sure everything is perfect on their big day.”

Why Hire a Wedding Planner?

When it comes to considering whether to hire a wedding planner, some couples either want to do all of the planning themselves or believe a planner will be too expensive. Nareen Bukhari (All That Shines Event Planning) shares, “Unfortunately, wedding planners are not always seen as a necessary vendor. […] hiring a wedding planner is the most crucial part of the wedding planning process. You want to know that all of your hard work and attention to detail comes to place and that your friends and family are able to en77

joy with you on the day-of. You n ever want to think back on your day and wish, ‘If I only hired a wedding planner…’” While budget is a key factor, so are time and stress. Carefully consider how much time you can realistically invest during the planning process. If you work in a profession that demands a lot of time or you are trying to navigate multiple family requests, a wedding planner can help ease the load. Domino encourages couples to strongly consider a wedding planner. “When you hire a wedding planner, you get the luxury of being as involved as you want to be without all the stress. You get to participate in all the fun decisions like tastings and décor selection, while all the logistics are planned by a professional. The last thing you want to do is stare at spreadsheets and try to navigate all your vendors when you should be in the makeup chair drinking champagne the morning of your wedding.” Though hiring a wedding planner may seem expensive, couples should consider the savings in terms of their time and stress as well as the benefit of having access to a wedding planner’s extensive vendor network. Patel and Kothur share that “hiring an event planner will save you money, time and stress. Wedding planners have the experience to help prioritize and organize all that it entails to plan a wedding. They can focus and use their book of vendors and referrals to help a couple find the perfect set of vendors for their big day.” Wedding planners work closely with other wedding vendors on a regular basis, and they not only have good working relationships, they often also have access to the best rates.

Prepare for Your First Meeting

Regardless of whether a couple chooses to someone to plan their entire wedding or just be the main contact on the day-of, an initial consultation with a wedding planner will determine next steps and help establish a timeline. Wedding planners like Bukhari also use the initial meeting to gauge a couple’s sense of style and their wedding vision. She adds that it is important to march 2015 - WWW.DESHVIDESH.COM

know “where the couple is in the planning process and what their expectations are from a planner. We do not want the bride and groom to feel that meeting with us is another task on their to-do list. Our meetings are casual, but well thought out. Initially, we try to obtain as much information as we can to understand the couple’s vision for their big day.” Before going to the first meeting, couples should have a few key items in mind to help the wedding planner decided the best course of action. Cole asks couples to have “dates in mind, estimated guest counts for each event, expectations from the planner (i.e. full service, partial or day of coordination), and personality. It is always important you feel as if you ‘click’ with your wedding planner.” The planner will truly become another member of your family during the planning process, so choosing one is as much about personality as it is about cost and expertise. 80

Wedding planners are organized, detailed, and resourceful, but above all, they listen to and pay close attention to a couple’s wants and desires. Knowing what to prioritize and exactly which vendors will best complement a couple’s style and vision is what makes hiring a wedding professional a necessity. Whether used for full-scale planning or just to be the main contact on the wedding day, hiring a planner is sure to save couples time, money, and stress.

Favorite Wedding Moments

The experts share their favorite wedding moments. Naureen: If I had to choose just one moment throughout the entire event, it would definitely be the bride’s entrance. As she walks down the aisle, time stands still. Silence fills the room, and the amount of emotion reaches its peak. The groom’s expression is always priceless to watch. march 2015 - WWW.DESHVIDESH.COM

Brittany: More often than not it is when the Groom sees the Bride for the first time. It is as if time stands still and for that moment the only thing that matters is how much love you feel in the room. Tracie: My favorite moment is the end of the ceremony, when the stress lifts a little for the couple and the fun really starts! Seema/Megha: By far our favorite wedding moment is the first look between the couple. Seeing that pure love in each other partner’s sparkling eyes just melts our hearts and is the reason we love what we do!

Choosing the Right Venue to Reflect Your Vision By Rina Shah, The Arpan Group

Once a couple is engaged, along with the many congratulations and best wishes from family and friends, comes the inevitable onslaught of questions. When is the big day? Have you picked a place yet? Where you choose to host your wedding will likely be one of the most difficult decisions during the planning process. The venue should not only be able to comfortably host guests, but also be a reflection of the couple’s personality. Venues are not one size fit all – a space that is the perfect choice for one couple may be limiting for another.

Though there are many available choices for a wedding venue, most couples have a general idea of how they want the day to unfold as well as the look and feel of the event. Kim Johnston, Director of Catering at the Marriott Palm Beach Gardens in Florida, believes that seeing the venue in person is most helpful. Choosing a venue can be a “’we’ll know it when we see it’ moment. Everyone has a vision of their perfect venue. Choose a venue where you are the focus of their attention. If you don’t want to be one of many events, but one-of-a-kind, pick a venue that accommodates that special request.”

Narrowing the Choices Couples should begin by creating a list of their top choices. Start with your budget. Be reasonable in what you can afford while still comfortably hosting your guests. While some venues provide linen and décor services or catering, others may not, so factor these items into your budget. Consider the main aspects of a venue needed to make it your ideal space – high ceilings, lots of light, outdoor options, in-house or outside catering, accommodations, hometown or a destination wedding, etc. Andrea Constantinou, Senior

Sales Catering Manager at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek & Waldorf Astoria Orlando adds, “Be selective in the number of venues that you visit. Don’t go crazy visiting more than 3-4 venues – as often this just causes confusion.” When considering from the many options available, couples should focus on: • Guest list: Along with venue, this item ranks high on the list of priorities. While the number does not need to be exact, a strong estimate will help establish the size of venue needed as well as other basics like invitations, catering, and accommodations. 89

• Catering: Take a look at options for food and drink. Do you have dietary or cultural restrictions? Will you need an outside caterer?

your personality. While the idea of hosting a wedding in the lobby of an art museum might sound appealing, be sure to consider all the logistics. Will the space hold not only the guests, but also equipment for caterers? If your fantasy venue is not possible, find ways to infuse your style. As you visit venues, ask the catering or event manager to help you visualize different layouts and unique options.

• Style: Part of the fun of planning a wedding is the perfect opportunity to show off

For South Asian weddings, couples should carefully consider whether the venue is

• Logistics: Will guests be from the local area or from out-of-town? Will all events be held in once place or at multiple sites? Will the events be indoors or outdoors? What time of day will the event take place? Take all of these into account as you narrow the possibilities.

aware of and can accommodate cultural needs. Teresa Bernstein, Director of Catering at the Hilton Orlando in Florida shares, “We have conversations with the family to and talk through the various cultural needs and expectations to ensure we are all on the same page. The Hilton Orlando is very familiar with cultural weddings, and we take pride is exceeding our guests expectations by immersing ourselves in the culture. The entire Hotel is engaged throughout the process, which permeates throughout the wedding.”

Favorite Wedding Moments The experts share their favorite wedding moments. Bernstein: I always admire the fact that I get to meet so many family members since the marriage symbolizes not only the union of the Bride and Groom, but also the two families. I love getting to know both sides of the family and seeing the love that goes into planning the Bride and Groom’s special day. Constantinou: The first look…I love that moment when a couple sees each other for the first time privately…I still tear up. Galipault: I really enjoy the Baraats; the enthusiasm and joy put into the Baraat is always amazing to see! Johnston: When I finally get to see the bride and groom in their traditional wedding attire. So beautiful, so colorful! Shulman: The Baraat, hands down. The joy, the music, the color and the elephant! 92

Preparing for First Visit Once the list of venues has been narrowed down, begin making appointments to see the space in person. Be sure to allow adequate time to walk through the property and ask all of your questions. Michelle Shulman, Marketing Director at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa in Weston, Florida, also advises couples to “have an outline of what you think you would like your dream wedding to encompass. Use Pinterest and magazines with pictures of what you would like. The more details the better.” Catering and event managers have an eye both for detail and for how a space can be transformed, so share your ideas and thoughts for your wedding vision. Be sure to have an approximate number of guests, number of events, and list of date options with you. The more details you are able to provide, the more comprehensive the proposal, which will give you a good sense of pricing and services. Rick Galipault, Director of Catering at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida, reminds couples to “Be consistent in what you ask for so any proposals you receive are true ‘apples to apples’ comparisons.” By asking the same questions at each venue, couples will be able to adequately compare the price, size, room options, and catering to get a better of sense of which space is truly the right fit.

I called the USCIS about my case. They told me that they would send me a decision in 30 days. It has now been 3 months and I have received nothing. When I called again, they now told me I have to wait 180 days! Why did they give me different information from the first time I called? Can I rely on USCIS to provide me necessary information on the phone? Unfortunately, the USCIS customer service line is only useful in a very limited way.The person who answers the phone does not have access to your file. He or she only sees a computer screen with limited information. It often takes USCIS 30 days or more to update that computer. For example, if you send in a response to a request for evidence, USCIS may physically receive your envelope but the customer service center may not know that for some time. The USCIS customer service center cannot tell you when something will happen on your case. The office has a list of general projected completion dates for several types 106

of cases. When you ask “How long will it take to get an answer on my case?” the representative on the line will look at a chart for similar cases to yours and tell you the approximate completion time. This is not a promise by USCIS to have your individual case completed. The representative on the line cannot even the see the documents in your file, nor are they trained in knowing the rules that apply to your case. They certainly cannot advise you what steps you should take to successfully apply for an immigration benefit as it applies in your particular situation. The information they can give you is limited to what you can learn on the USCIS website. Do not rely on what the representative tells you on the phone. That representative does not work for you and does not have your interests in mind. If you have questions about your case, speak to an experienced immigration attorney. Keep a copy of everything you send to USCIS and everything you receive from them. When you show these documents to an immigration attor-

ney, he or she will be able to advise you on what steps you have to take next. I have been in United States for two years. I came with a tourist visa, but it has now expired. I have found a business that is willing to offer me a job and sponsor me. Can I het my green card this way? No. Getting a green card through employment is a 2 part process. The employer first files a petition with USCIS (and if needed, the employer must first have a labor certification approved). The employer’s petition may be approved, whether you are in the US legally or not. In fact, you do not have to be in the US to have the employer’s petition approved. However, the next step is to apply for adjustment of status – that is your personal application for the green card (based on the employer’s petition). Your overstay will prevent that from being approved. (There are a few small exceptions – check with your immigration attorney). Basically, if

you do not have legal status in the US when you apply for adjustment of status based on employment, you will not qualify. If you have overstayed by 6 months, and leave the US to process you green card in the US Consulate in your country, you will not be allowed back in for 3 years. If you overstay by 1 year, you are barred from reentry for 10 years. I have a 10 year visa to the United States. Can I stay here for 10 years? No. There is a big difference between the visa stamped in your passport and your permitted duration of stay. Your visa is probably a visitor’s visa (B1/B2). As a visitor, you are allowed to stay for no more than 6 months at a time. When you enter the US with your visa, you will be given a Form I-94. This used to be a little card, but is now done electronically. Your form I-94 will state how long you can stay on this visit. You may print out your form I-94 from the CBP website (www.cpb.gov). Your passport will also be stamped and the stamp will say how long you can stay. Sometimes you may be able to extend that period of stay by filing an application with USCIS. The visa in your passport, however, only governs your entry to the US and the category in which you may enter.

We plan to marry on Valentines’ day. What do we do next? After you get married, you will be ready to file for your wife’s green card. Family filings are a 2 part process. You will need to file Form I-130 – that is your petition for your wife’s immigrant visa. Your wife will need to file form I-485 – her application to adjust status (From student to permanent resident). These forms are filed at the same time. Your wife also has the option to return to her home country and have your petition processed at the US consulate in her country, as log as she has not violated her status in the US. The forms are

sent to USCIS by mail. You will need to include a copy of your marriage certificate, proof of your citizenship, any past divorces and a copy of your wife’s birth certificate. You will also need to document how your wife entered the US. You are also required to file an Affidavit of Support and include proof of your income. This form guarantees to the government that your wife will not seek public assistance. You have to show that your income is more that 125% of the federal poverty level. If you do not make that much money, you will need a co-sponsor to also file an Affidavit of Support for your wife, or you may

use your assets, such as bank accounts or a home. The cosponsor must be a US Citizen or permanent resident. Your wife will also need to send in a medical exam from a licensed immigration doctor. Your wife may also apply for temporary employment authorization and a temporary travel document. After you have sent in all the paperwork and the filing fees, USCIS will send you receipt notices for all the forms. Then your wife will receive an appointment notice for her biometrics. Than means fingerprints and a photo. You will then get an interview appointment with USCIS. You will both need to go to the interview and bring evidence that your and your wife really live together and that the marriage was not just for the green card. If you pass the interview and your wife does not have any bars to adjustment, such as a criminal conviction, she will be granted permanent residence and will receive her green card in the mail.
