Vivek Oberoi produces and stars in Rosie the Saffron Chapter Rohit Shetty & Ranveer Singh may join forces in comedy

Vivek Oberoi of Satya fame and a well known actor in South Indian films will star alongside Palak Tiwari in the upcoming film Rosie The Saffron Chapter. His production house Oberoi Mega Entertainment will produce the film. For Palak, this will be her debut film and one hopes the film will open doors for her in Bollywood. Vivek shared a motion poster of the film on Instagram. Vivek purportedly found her whispers “both heart-touching and mind-numbing” without saying what the whispers were about. Palak gushed that she was honored to have Vivek join the cast and work under his guidance. She too shared the poster with great pride. The film has nothing to do with the Saffron party or politics, and instead, is a horror film that will keep viewers glued to their seats. The film is based on true events and is the first in a series of horror films. Rosie is an employee at a BPO called Saffron, and the office is haunted. Vishal Mishra, director of the film, said that he hoped to break the cliché of Indian horror films. Vivek said that this new venture supports concept driven films, and he hopes to change the movie landscape besides providing opportunity for new talent. He hopes to introduce new stars with each sequel and help them to gain a footing in the industry - a noble goal indeed! S immba earned Rs 240 crore in India, a number that spells success for Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh. The film is so liked that fans are clamoring for a sequel with hopes one is in the works.

The duo certainly appears to have hit it off and plan to get together again. This time around it is a comedy all the way. Bollywood Hungama reports that Rohit is looking to branch off from the Golmaal line. The lockdown gave him ample time to reflect and develop a comedy. He pitched it to Ranveer who was fired up once he heard the proposal. Ranveer has not done a comedy film in the Shetty style and agreed immediately. The fly in the funny ointment is that Ajay Devgan is fully booked for the next one year, pushing back Golmaal 5 by a year. It was supposed to be released by Diwali 2020, but it will likely put in an appearance by the end of 2021.

Simmba is not the first time the pair of Rohit and Ranveer has come together. They have worked on commercials and developed a fondness as well as mutual respect. Simmba simply underlines and cements the partnership. Ranveer is likely to get some practice acting in comedy films from the Gujju comedy Jayeshbhai Jordaar. His next film is ’83, which co-stars his wife Deepika Padukone.

Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree released in Japan Siddiqui’s Serious Men will stream on October 2

Imagine a woman’s spirit attacking men in the dead of the night. It is something for gender equality, even if it lasts for just four days of a religious festival in a year held in Chanderi village. This is what the film Stree is all about. The good news is that now people in Japan will be able to enjoy this horror comedy starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao along with Amar Kaushik. Shraddha dutifully shared the good news of the Japan release via Twitter. In a male dominated patriarchal society where women play a very subdued and subservient role, the spirit of woman comes alive for four days and extracts its pound of flesh from the men of Chanderi village. A pity the spirit’s ravages are confined only to that village.

The good thing about this horror film is that it is also a comedy, making it a cut above the rest in Indian horror films. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana. If not for the story, just watch it for the fantastic dance Kamariya by Nora Fatehi.

Japanese theaters opened in mid-May once quarantine restrictions were eased. Some theaters screened old Hollywood hits like Ben Hur and The Towering Inferno. For Japanese viewers, an Indian film is an altogether different, spicy offering and Stree is just the right masala to excite. N awazuddin Siddiqui’s upcoming movie Serious Men is teasing fans with a newly released trailer. The show will premiere on Netflix on October 2, Gandhi ji’s birthday.

While truth was a great weapon for Gandhi ji, the lead in Serious Men played by Nawazuddin sees the actor adopt questionable means so that his son can achieve fame and success in life.

Serious Men is based on a novel of the same name by Manu Joseph. Nawazuddin plays the role of Ayyan Mani, a man from society’s disadvantaged section. Not having enjoyed the comforts in life, Ayyan wants to ensure that his son becomes famous and successful. The trailer shows Mani achieving his goal, but also hints at dubious means having been adopted to get to the end. Wait until October 2, 2020, for the mystery to unravel.

Sudhir Mishra, National award winner, directs the film and believes the novel is funny, wacky and also deeply emotional. He says he enjoyed developing the film in partnership with Netflix. According to him, the film is specific in focusing on certain issues, but also has universal appeal. Indira Tiwari, Nasser, Shweta Basu Prasad and Aakshath Das are part of the cast in this screenplay adaptation by Bhavesh Mandalia.

Siddiqui is known to deliver intense performances as shown in Bajrangi Bhaijan and Gangs of Wasseypur. How will he come across in Serious Men? His sheer, versatile genius should show through.
