Welcome
by Ashwin Soni, GHU Ambassador
Dear Members, Friends, Well-wishers Namaste, Jai Shree Krishna, Jai Sia Ram, Jai Mataji
Social, Educational, Fund Raising, Projects, Housekeeping etc. are managed and being completed with excellence.
Here is a short report from the Ambassadors. The Ambassadors being Piyooshbhai Chotai, Kirtikumar Patel, Illeshbhai Patel, Umesh Nayee and myself.
It was heartening to hear compliments from Rameshbhai Sastriji and Anilbhai of Skylink recently. They said “Apple Tree Centre is the best Mandir and Community Centre in the whole of UK”!
The role of the Ambassadors is to help and support GHU Committee. We also guide and check that the Committee is taking good care of the Community and the Centre. The President of GHU, Kokilaben Patel has fallen ill recently. She is recuperating very well but has been advised to take complete rest. Please do pray that Kokilaben has a speedy recovery and returns to give seva soon. The GHU Committee requested the Ambassadors to help out to manage charring the meeting and helping with some of the work of Kokilaben. According I have stepped in as an Acting Chair to provide the help and support as needed. It was very disappointing that the GHU AGM scheduled on 12 March 2017 had to be postponed as the quorum could not be formed. With such a large number of Hindu families and membership living in Crawly frankly I was amazed, disappointed and disheartened that the AGM had to be postponed. If we are to run GHU efficiently and effectively – public involvement and support is essential. If possible do let me know why you were not able to attend this vital meeting. We shall reconvene the meeting in the near future.
However we need more public members to join the Committee. Please do come forward to give seva – you also will find it rewarding. In helping as a volunteer in whatever capacity looks good on your CV. GHU focus this year is to remain on top of all the Religious Programmes, Fund Raising and Treasury work. At the same time to plan the events to celebrate the Golden Jubilee next year. Yes GHU will celebrate 50 years since it was founded next year. GHU was formed way back in 1968 – here is the photograph of the Committee taken at that time. Chandubhai has already planned some Religious Programmes for next year. We shall publicise other events as they get confirmed. If you have any suggestions for the celebrations then do please let me know. Jai Shree Krishna, from the GHU Ambassadors Group
GHU Committee continues to work very hard and well together with good support from a few members and volunteers. You will be pleased to know that all the key events and tasks, be it Religious, Cultural, Treasury,

by Patricia Slatter
Congratulations! The Crawley Community Awards are run by Crawley Borough Council in association with The Hawth and the Crawley Observer. The purpose of the awards is to recognise and reward those in the area who to out of their way to make Crawley a better place to live; for those who give their time as volunteers and fundraisers; who work to achieve success and who provide residents with the opportunity to learn and develop their interests and promote the wonderful diversity we all enjoy in Crawley. Having been nominated by Bharat Lukka, The Apple Tree Centre were winners at the
4
2017 Crawley Community Awards in the Culture category. The judges recognised the incredible fundraising efforts which went into creating this invaluable local asset and the work of all those involved in providing a venue to enable so many groups to meet. They were particularly impressed by the range of age groups who benefited from the activities from young children through to the older members of the community. The Apple Tree Centre ensures that cultural skills and traditions can continue and that new generations can benefit from access to the facility.

Religious Report by Chandubhai Nayee Jai Shree Krishna In the last 3 months , we have had many successful events, Chaitri Navratri, Hanuman Chalisa, and numerous Bhajan Bhojans. I would like to whole heartedly thank you all for your support in all the functions and for giving us your support as you always have. For the 1st time ever in Crawley, Chinmayananad bapu wil be reciting the Gopi Geet Katha from 1st-7th June 2017. We also have Shravan mas to look forward to, with 1st 15 days there will be jhula, then every Monday afternoon there will be rudra Abhishek. If you would like to perform Abhihek in the evening, then please contact me and we will try and arrange something for you. 4th June will be Ambo Utsav, i request you all to come and witness this beautiful event, where the Mandir will be decorated with Mangos, which will be given as prasad after.
As with very event we require volunteers, as our Mandir is SOLELY run by volunteers. Even one hour of your time is valuable for us. We will also be celebrating Ganesh Chaturti, in Tilgate Park, as we did last year, for that also we need volunteers. Next year is a big year for GHU, as it’s our 50th anniversary, we will be having many functions throughout the year, and if you have any suggestion of any way we can celebrate this milestone then please do contact me or any of the committee members. Once again thank you all very much for your support, without you the mandir would not be able to go forward as we are. Jai Shree Krishna. Chandubhai Nayee, Governor, GHU
