ONE ON ONE

Mumbai (IANS), Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who started her career as a costume designer, says she wanted to be an astronaut and that it was fate which crafted her switch from fashion to cinema. The daughter of Bollywood actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha forayed into the Hindi film industry with Salman Khan-starrer “Dabangg” in 2010. Bollywood’s “Shotgun Junior” shared her sentiments in an interview on Colors Infinity’s show “Born Stylish” with host and designer Pria Kataaria Puri. She said: “To be honest, I wanted to be an astronaut, my math was so bad though that no institute would have given me admission. I love sports, I like to swim and play tennis so I also thought of becoming a swimmer once. “Being in fashion designing, I used to sketch well, I thought of becoming an artist also but eventually, I landed up being an actress. There were a lot of people from different walks of life who inspired me while making a career choice. I was always a courageous girl!” A simple dialogue like “Thappad se darr nahi lagta saab ji. pyar se lagta hai” from “Dabangg” is still a rage among cinema buffs. The actress, who is busy shooting for her upcoming films “Akira” and “Force 2”, says she “never thought a heroine can get famous for her dialogue”. She said: “For me, the switch from fashion to cinema was all destiny. Arbaaz (Khan) spotted me at one of the fashion shows and approached me for the movie ‘Dabangg’, though I never wanted to be there, it was an offer I could not say no to. I had never thought a heroine can get famous for her dialogue; my father’s expertise has clearly rubbed-off on me”.

Simple Styling Tips We Can Learn From Alia Bhatt, Classy, fresh, edgy and chic: all these words define her style and personality. Regarded as the youngest fashionista to have entered Bollywood, her remarkable dressing can make any 20-something girl green with envy. Play it cute with shorts and skirts: Try to put together an adorable summer look by incorporating denim shorts and mini skirts in it by pairing them with graphic t-shirts and blowy blouses. You can increase the style quotient of the look by going with printed skirts and shorts. Go with similar hues, when wearing vibrant Indian with more than 2 colors: When wearing mix-and-match Indian outfits with three or four colors, try to play with the hues on the same side of the shade plate, and go with prints and embroideries that complement each other. When wearing a printed dress, keep the rest of the look simple: When wearing printed, don’t let the other parts of your look: footwear, accessories or makeup hog the limelight. Let accessories be light, hair be pulled up and makeup be min. For an edgier look, go with leather: The everyday look can be replaced with the power of leather to your mundane style by opting for leather jackets, boots, skirts pants and teaming them with their appropriate counterparts. To elevate the girl-next-door image, team flowy tops with snug skinnies: You can jazz up your everyday feminine image by teaming bright-colored flowy blouses with neutral skin-tight pants. Give a fresh twist to dresses, pair them with trainers: Wish to wear a flowy dress but not the prim and proper footwear? Go with your smart trainers instead! Throw your Adidas and Nike sneakers with printed dresses to give a fresh new twist. When in doubt, wear white: Well, they say black does not go out of style ever, but there is another color that never loses its charm: the classic white. FINANCIAL NEWS

As a personal bank customer today, you need to be cautious and pay close attention to activity in your account. Bank errors and the potential of identity theft have made it imperative that you become proactive and follow simple safeguards. In addition, changes in bank policies can create confusion. Here are a few of the most common personal banking mistakes to avoid. Not reviewing your bank statement promptly. The biggest personal banking mistake is not opening and looking at your bank statements when you receive them. This is the only way to know immediately if there is a mistake in the account or if the balance is below the minimum level for which you will be charged a fee. Take a few minutes to look over the bank statement. Paying unnecessary fees and bank charges. Banking is a competitive business. There are banks that charge fees for various services and others that do not. Don't pay unnecessary fees because you are too lazy to shop around. Likewise, don't settle for lower interest rates if there are higher ones at another convenient bank. Leaving A Literal Paper Trail. Leaving discarded bank documents behind makes you an easy target for identity thieves and con artists. If you make a mistake on a deposit slip, for example, don't just toss it on the counter or even into the bank garbage can without tearing it up first. shred them or tear them up into small pieces. Banking Online In Public Places. Wi-Fi access allows you to go online from your favorite hangout. However, you should think twice before doing any online banking transactions over a wireless service from a public place. The level of security 22

is not the same as it is when using your own router. Using An Easy Password. First, don't use an obvious password like your birth date. Second, change your password periodically. Third, do not write your password down, particularly anyplace outside of your own home. Failing To Take ATM Precautions. ATMs can be lifesavers when you need cash. However, you need to be smart and not write down your pin number, especially on your ATM card. Also, do not carry money openly out of the vestibule or use the machine at all if you do not feel physically safe. Signing And Endorsing Checks Prior To Entering The Bank. People do this all the time to save time. However, if you lose a signed or endorsed check, you can lose the money. Do your signing inside the bank, even if it takes a little longer. Leaving Bank Account Numbers. If you are reviewing your bank statement at the office, put it in your pocket or purse when you are done. Assuming You Must Borrow From Your Bank. If you need a loan or are in the process of seeking a mortgage, it is not necessary that you give your bank the business. You can certainly include them in your search, but you should certainly shop around. Not Establishing A Relationship. Whether you are banking online or in person, you should get to know the customer service staff. Meet the branch manager and establish a rapport with the people holding onto your money. LOVE PRESCRIPTION

New York (IANS) If your romantic relationship is in trouble and you always want your partner to initiate reconciliation after a conflict, please read on. Researchers have found that when conflict occurs in romantic relationships, the negative emotional climate that results hinders a person's ability to recognize their partner's attempts to reach out to them. However, talking things out with your partner can undo much of the damage, the findings showed. "When conflict occurred, it influenced the way persons rated their partner's general efforts to work on their relationship, said study co-author Brian Ogolsky, professor at the University of Illinois in the US. "If partners withdrew or become contemptuous or critical, the bad feelings lingered, and that negative emotion dampened people's ability to process or perceive their partner's attempts to repair what was wrong between them," Ogolsky noted. For the study, 98 same sex couples kept a 14-day diary in which they recorded conflict and answered questions about how they had responded to it. For example, did they withdraw? Did they lash out? Did they blame the other person? Did they threaten to leave? Or did they take a more positive approach? Did they persist in their attempts to communicate? Did they prioritise solving the problem? Answers to these questions predicted whether they were able to recognise that their partner was attempting to mend the relationship. After an argument, in a newly chilly emotional climate, communication styles can be very important, Ogolsky explained. "Hostile feelings do not gain a foothold among constructive communicators - people who talk things out and work through the problem in a constructive manner. That is a game changer for the way a couple's relationship will develop," he noted. "If you use effective strategies to manage conflicts on a daily basis when those conflicts are small, you are likely to create a warmer emotional climate and have better outcomes, Ogolsky noted. The findings appeared in the Journal of Family Psychology. SPOTLIGHT Best-tressed of the 1960s heroines, Sadhana was more than just that sophisti-cut fringe or the mascot of many a shot-incolor-in-Kashmir musical. She was a gamine, fragile beauty in the Audrey Hepburn-Leslie Caron mould (think Gigi) heart-breakingly waifish or heart-stoppingly glamorous. Sadhana once told me, "R K Nayyar (the director of her debut Love In Simla), and later my husband said they loved my nose, one could land a helicopter on it!" She added with characteristic candor, "I was attractive, but never beautiful."

'As the burkha-clad beauty Husna in Mere Mehboob, she inspired Shakeel Badayuni to compose Mere Mehboob Tujhe Meri Mohabbat Ki Kasam/Phir Mujhe Un Nargisi Aankhon Ka Sahara De De. Hasrat Jaipuri showered epithets like Nargis-e-Mastaana and Phoolon Ki Rani, Baharon Ki Malika on her in Arzoo.'

A top-rung Bollywood star in the 1960s and 1970s, Sadhana was born in Karachi, now in Pakistan. However, after partition, when she was barely seven, her family migrated to India and settled in Bombay (now Mumbai). The Shivdasani saw difficult times but indulged Sadhana, named after the famed actress Sadhana Bose, in her choice pastimes eating golas and watching films, especially those starring her favorites, Dev Anand and Nutan. Thanks to actor-cousin brother Hari Shivdasani (actress Babita's father), Sadhana too was drawn to the profession. A teenaged Sadhana faced the camera as a chorus girl in Raj Kapoor's Shri 420 (1955). An Arts undergraduate at Jai Hind college, Sadhana was approached to play second lead to heroine Sheila Ramani in the first Sindhi film, Abana (1958). She entered films as a child artiste in 1955 with a minor appearance in Raj Kapoor’s film, “Shree 420″. Later, in 1958, she acted in India’s first Sindhi language film “Abaana” in a significant role, on a token payment of Re.1. When a promotional picture of the movie appeared on the cover of a film magazine, it was noticed by a prominent producer, Sashadhar Mukherjee, and she joined his acting school.

and She never looked back since and followed with highly-acclaimed and awarded film “Parakh” the following year and another musical superhit “Hum Dono” with the legendary Dev Anand. Sadhana is credited with introducing the famous ‘fringe’ haircut – known as her trademark ‘Sadhana Cut’ – and tight body-hugging churidar-kurtas as a much-copied fashion in Bollywood. Leave me alone, Sadhana would often say, for she wanted to be remembered just the way she was in the 1960s. She died alone at Fortis Hospital in Mahim, Mumbai; alone, and away from the glare of spotlight. Perhaps that is how it should have been. A silent farewell to a woman with quiet grace. Veteran Bollywood actresss Sadhana Shivdasani passed away December 25, 2015 in Mumbai. She was 74 and a widow, and is survived by her foster daughter.

Sadhana’s co-student then was her future co-star Joy Mukherjee. The duo starred in “Love in Shimla”, a musical superhit of 1960 produced by Sashadhar Mukherjee for Filmalaya Productions and directed by his son R.K. Nayyar, whom she married later.

Close to 400 people of different races, religions, and communities came together at the HOPE Garba to celebrate three years of HOPE (Helping Organizations & People Everywhere), by dancing to Bollywood style Garba, eating Indian street foods, and smiling for the photo booths, but this is only the tip of the iceberg of what HOPE strives to accomplish. HOPE is a local nonprofit founded by young adults in Atlanta who seek to change the world. They focus on building awareness, engaging the community and fundraising for nonprofits focused on basic needs with sustainable solutions. To help accomplish these goals, HOPE hosts a variety of events to bring the community together in a fun way. HOPE Garba was used as a unique opportunity to show off the Indo-Pak culture to the community at large while bringing everyone together through the universal love of dance and philanthropy. While sharing the Garba-floor with such a diverse community the attendees learned about the efforts taken by the three nonprofits HOPE

has partnered with for the past 3 years. They learned about the sustainable initiatives taken by Men Stopping Violence as they attempt to educate those around them to reduce the prevalence of domestic violence. They opened ourselves to understand the progress made by Atlanta Community Food Bank to assist those who cannot feed themselves. And about Beautiful In Every Shade is a grassroots empowerment movement affirming and celebrating the beauty found in every human being. HOPE hopes to encourage other young professionals to realize that changing the world is not a task left for the politicians or corporations but that there are small things each of us can do to make the world a better place. After meeting and greeting, and enjoying the delicious dinner and dessert, the attendees were warmly welcomed by enthusiastic and bubbly Vice President of Ekal Atlanta and the recently elected President of IACA Rina Gupta and Ekal’s Cultural Coordinator Rachna Gupta. After Shri Tarlok Badhan lighted the traditional diya(lamp), Trisha Dalapati, who recently had made her Arangetram as Ekal’s DIY project and donated her money gifts to support Ekal school for four years, performed an opening invocation to Lord Ganesha through a scintillating Bharatanatyam dance. The emcees with their infectious enthusiasm were exhorting the audience to sponsor Ekal schools. Soon, the attendees were vying with each other to sponsor schools. Some sponsored 5 schools anonymously! And by the time, the program concluded a record number of 111 schools were sponsored. Dr. Randeep Bhullar donated two Amazon Fire Tablets and one Samsung Galaxy Tab and iiTworkForce offered New Year eve gala ticket for one couple for the Ekal raffle. With the 111 schools sponsored at this hugely entertaining night, Ekal is slowing inching towards its goal of 100,000 vidyalayas. Berries are long known to have positive effects on a person’s health. Let’s find out why these fruity wonders make for healthy eating They’re lush, delicious and colorful and that’s what makes berries a favorite dessert fruit. It is a little known fact that berries make excellent consumption for good health. Namrata Desai, nutritionist at Abs Fitness & Wellness Club, says the common function of all berries is that they are excellent antioxidants which help in delaying the ageing of tissues and some berries are great at improving memory. She adds, “Blueberries are a rich source of vitamin K, strawberries are rich in vitamin C and cranberries help in treating urinary and gastrointestinal tract infections. Their consumption can prevent food-borne diseases as they are anti-bacterial agents. Berries also increase the production of HDL, which is good cholesterol, and bring about the oxidation of bad cholesterol, and hence are good for the heart.” She advices to eat berries as a snack and also have them with plain yoghurt. “Crushed berries combined with flax seeds and plain yoghurt make for good protein and fiber intake. FATCA PROMPTING US NRIS TO SELL PROPERTY IN INDIA MUMBAI|NEW DELHI: Many US-based non-resident Indians are considering selling their property in India - even at a discount - amid confusion and fear that a new information-sharing protocol may bring their assets, bank accounts, mutual funds and capital market investments in India under the scanner of US tax authorities. India and the US recently agreed to implement the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act ( FATCA), a law aimed at ensuring that tax is paid on income generated from generated from wealth parked overseas. Under the agreement, they would share information about citizens with assets in each other's countries. Unlike the case of mutual funds and bank accounts, it isn't as easy for the Indian government to identify property held by NRIs in India. However, the NRIs anticipate that as systems become more robust, details of their assets will be shared with US authorities automatically and they want to act before that happens.

CHAI LOUNGE GOVERNMENT TO RELAX COMPLIANCE NORMS FOR PAYMENTS TO NRIS NEW DELHI: The Revenue Department today said reporting and certification requirements in case of payments made to non-residents will be relaxed from April 1, 2016. The Finance Ministry said amendment in the Income Tax Rules have been made to "strike a balance between reducing the burden of compliance and collection of information" in case of payments made by domestic entities to non-residents. As per the amended rules, a Chartered Accountant certificate will be required to be furnished "only in respect of such payments made to non-residents which are chargeable to tax and the amount of payment during the year exceeds Rs 5 lakh". Also, the requirement of furnishing two types of Forms (15CA and 15CB) by an individual for remittance which do not require RBI approval has been done away with. Further, the list of payments of specified nature which do not require submission of the those two Forms has been expanded from 28 to 33 including payments for imports. The Income Tax Act empowers the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to capture information in respect of payments made to non-residents, whether chargeable to tax or not.

BANKS, MFS ASK US NRIS TO SUBMIT FATCA CERTIFICATES MUMBAI: Indian banks and mutual funds have in the past fortnight started warning NRIs who hold an American passport or are working in the US that their accounts could be frozen unless they get a taxcompliant certificate from US authorities, thanks to a treaty signed by New Delhi and Washington. Under the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), the two countries would share information about citizens who own properties, bank accounts and other investments in each other's territory. As per the new regulations, US citizens or those working in the US on H1B visa would need a FATCA-compliance certificate to be submitted to their banks. The same certificate needs to be provided to also mutual funds and before making direct investment in the capital market. Banks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India, as well as mutual funds like Reliance Mutual fund, Franklin Templeton and DSP Blackrock have asked their customers to submit the FATCA certificates. This means that going ahead US citizens who don't give these declarations would not be able to invest or keep money in India," said Lloyd Pinto, director at Grant Thornton India.
