ONE ON ONE Mumbai (IANS) She prides herself in doing one film at a time and surviving in the Bollywood arena, but Preity Zinta's subsequent involvement in Twenty20 cricket tournament Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 affected her movie presence. Now, the dimpled beauty with brains is ready to be back with a bang in filmdom. "I wanted to focus on cricket that time. Acting is not something that you can just do. When you go and start performing, you put yourself in a safety deposit box and you become somebody else. A lot of me was required in cricket because I was starting a new business. "I went through process on my and I didn't it was possible me to do all and become somebody Something going to suffer and after all these years in the industry, I didn't want to end up doing

the whole own think for that else. was

films where either production suffered or I as an actor suffered. I was quite happy to take on cricket and do that. I wanted growth," Preity said. Now that it's been been eight years of IPL, she feels "IPL doesn't need me anymore". "Now I just have to come and watch the game. The business is doing well, the team is doing well. Things have fallen into place. Now doing this ('Nach Baliye') or movie sounds exciting to me because I've been away from them for sometime. I've come back with a fresh perspective and I'm in a different space. I never thought that I would be so excited about judging a dance reality show," she said. A producer, writer, entrepreneur and a dance lover, Preity, who considers herself "in good space right now", promises to feature in more movies this year. The 40-year-old, who was last seen in a fullfledged role in the 2013 dud "Ishkq in Paris", is now busy filming her upcoming film "Bhaiyyaji Superhitt" and "Nach Baliye 7", which she is co-judging with author Chetan Bhagat and choreographer Marzi Pestonji.

Talking about her filmography, the "Sangharsh" star, who made her Bollywood debut with "Dil Se.." in 1998, says she is happy about having done selective work. "I was the only actress from my generation who came and did one film at a time and survived," said the actress, who has featured in over 30 films, including cameos. "God has been kind to me. I should be appreciative of what I have instead of complaining about what I don't because I definitely got more than I ever dreamt of," said the former model.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

Bollywood has produced many real life mother-son and mother-daughter duos that have made it big. Let's take a look at some of them on the occasion of MOTHER’S DAY. The greatest lessons I have ever learned were at my mother's knees. All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother" - Abraham Lincoln Gone are the days when men were their own bosses and thought of their mothers just as homemakers. These days the over supportive Momma’s boys make sure that they take the right advice from their mothers and follow the correct path with their guidance. This month we bring to you a special story on the bond our favorite Bollywood actors share with their loving mums. Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan doesn’t believe in celebrating Mother's Day or Father’s Day, but agrees that he owes a lot to his Pa Amitabh Bachchan and Ma Jaya Bachchan. He confessed, “I don’t believe in Father’s Day or Mother’s Day. Arre yaar, celebrate the people you love every day. You don’t need one day to celebrate them. Time is the best gift you can give your loved ones.” The Nawab of Patuadi, Saif Ali Khan is closer to his mother veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, than he was to his father, former Cricketer, Later Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. So much so that he once bashed up renowned writer and India’s prominent LGBT activist Ashok Row Kavi, on national television said, ‘Sharmila Tagore’s wig had boochies (lice) in it or something.’ Saif went to his house and beat him. Salman Khan has bought his mother a flat right above his own. He spends most of his free time with his mum Salma Khan and even prefers to be fed with her hand. Reportedly, Salman got more close to his mother when his father Salim Khan married Helen. But the ‘Good-hearted’ Khan that Salman is, respects and loves Helen equally. 'Rockstar’ Ranbir Kapoor shares a special bond with his mother, veteran actor Neetu Kapoor. The actor does not sign any script before his mother approves of it. And not only scripts, it is Neetu who talks about monies with the filmmakers who are keen to sign Ranbir for their projects, her son being a little shy. In short, she is Ranbir’s complete business manager, philosopher plus guide. Also, whenever she is asked about her son, Neetu cannot stop raving about how loving and caring the Kapoor lad is. 16

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY Mothers have always been the pillar of strength in a daughter’s life. If we talk about the mothers from Bollywood, they have always been the shadow in their daughter’s life. Here are few, who rock the Bollywood industry together: The bold and beautiful modern Indian girls are known to take the world by storm but these strong girls too take shelter under the wings of moms. On-screen it’s only the dutiful sons who have an emotional equation with moms, but off-screen its daughters too who strictly take their steps only according to their mothers’ guidelines. Bollywood has the style and fashion going on and the mother daughter duos seem to do the magic every time.

“The woman who creates and sustains a home and under whose hands children grow up to be strong and pure men and women, is a creator second only to GOD" - Helen Hunt Jackson

Hema Malini had always been the most versatile actress. With her grace and charm she won a million hearts and still remains the ‘Dream Girl’. However Esha had a hard time, but when the duo come out together in front of everyone, no one can beat their style and charm. Together they seal everyone’s lips. Beauty and grace showed in every performance did by the beautiful actress, Tanuja. She was a literal Diva of her time, with beautiful expressions in her eyes. Words fall short for this beautiful actress who ruled many hearts in her time. Tanuja’s daughter, Kajol even lived to the expectations from the Bollywood industry. Kajol’s style and acting skills added to her elegance. She has given many back to back hits like, Gupt, DDLJ, K3G, Fanaa etc. Her style and aura still continues to create magic in Bollywood. Together they just freeze everyone. Sharmila Tagore was considered one the most fashionable and hottest actress in Bollywood in her time. Although her bikini shot, raised a lot of eyebrows but she feared none and carried on with her sense of style and glamour. She redefined fashion in Bollywood industry at that time and still continues to do so. Her daughter Soha could not do much with her acting but her beauty and grace is a real head turner. Whenever the mother daughter duo, appear together in events, parties, they just set stage on fire.

FASHION TRENDS

They are chic, they are hot and can give any top league Btown actress a run for her money, we are talking about the new age Star wives and yummy mummies. Gone are the days of out-of-shape and out-of-style star wives and mums, today's age of Mrs Khans, Roshans and Mrs. Kapoors have a different story to say. The Queen of Bollywood, King Shah Rukh’s first lady, Gauri Khan can be called as the epitome of fashion. Mother of two, Gauri carries herself with panache. For her, comfort comes first and prefers donning loose tees, flip flops and cargos. Gauri is often spotted channeling her favorite distressed denims. In an interview, Gauri said: "My relationship with fashion is very simple - it has to attract me and if I like something I never think twice. But I always have to be comfortable." Juggling time between her profession, a successful husband and her son, Twinkle Khanna manages to look fashionable and always seems to get it right. Her style statement says: “A woman has to always go by her structure and make the most of it, rather than try to dress like someone else. I love flowing dresses, but I can't really wear them because they overwhelm my frame. For me, everything has to be cinched at the waist.” Being the better half of the Greek God of Bollywood sure is a great responsibility and Suzanne Roshan sure stands tall on that front. Class and style are synonym to her name and she never seems to make a fashion faux pa. As she says : ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ and seen sporting them often. She also confesses that she has a huge fetish for shoes and bags. Now, this is one lady who most women in India would envy. Mallaika Arora Khan flaunts the best body in business and no one can really come close to her well well-sculpted frame. Mallaika’s style statement says: “Black and white are always in fashion. Outfits in these colors are never out of style. I also like pink and turquoise blue. And if you ask me in which outfit I am most comfortable in, it is definitely blue jeans and a T-shirt” Talking about the older lot, we can swear over the style statement Neetu Kapoor and Sridevi make. Being on the wrong side of 40, these ladies have maintained their ravishing beauty and look as youthful as ever. New mommies like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Lara Dutta with their existing impeccable style sense and toned figures, they are certainly not going to disappoint us.

SPOTLIGHT

Asian-American Student Creates Non-Profit to Bring Community Together During the summer of 2014, a Milton High school student, Jaya Gupta, with the help of her friends, Emma Vincola and Lauren Blade, set out to raise awareness about poverty in the North Fulton Community by connecting students to the less-fortunate kids at shelters in a creative and fun way. After volunteering and spending time at various shelters over the summer, Gupta realized that the kids missed out on special life events, like birthdays. She figured she could throw birthday parties for the kids by gathering volunteers from her school and other organizations like the Alpharetta YMCA and Milton’s National Honor Society, bringing the community together and thus created her nonprofit, Give A Birthday. In addition to the non-profit, Gupta, Blade and Vincola started a chapter at their high school, Milton, and recruited over 100 volunteers.

Give a Birthday partnered with the YMCA Teen Leaders from the Alpharetta YMCA branch, bringing in 20 volunteers from over 8 high schools in the North Fulton/Forsyth districts. During the first half of the party, the volunteers played musical chairs, freeze dance, and soccer with the kids; Later, volunteers set up the tables with cupcakes, juices, doughnuts, cookies, and chips, surprising the kids who had birthdays in the month of February and March. In addition, Give A Birthday, donated school supplies for the kids. This month, Gupta plans to organize more parties and plan to continue expanding throughout the summer to various shelters and disadvantaged groups. By creating a life changing experience for both the fortunate and disadvantaged communities, the Give A Birthday team connects communities and provides joy to everyone. Feel free to like the Give A Birthday! On Facebook.

By teaming up with organizations, such as the Drake House, Rainbow Village, the Garden and various locally owned businesses, Give A Birthday!joins the community together by creating opportunities so the fortunate community can have the special chance to change a child’s life by celebrating his or her birthday in a fun, memorable manner. Recently, Give A Birthday volunteers threw a party at the Garden, a homeless shelter in Smyrna, Georgia. 24

THE TRAVELLER

New Delhi (IANS) With a number of sightseeing tours, photographic opportunities and historical landmarks, you can spend days in New York taking strolls around. Actress Tina Desai has summarized her spring tour in five things to do in New York during spring. Here’s what she suggests:

Central Park: Best of the lot to see the first sign of spring in New York City. Central park is one spot with blooms popping up all over the place. Long strolls is one thing that one can never get bored of here. While Central Park offers a tranquil respite all year round from the surrounding cacophony of urban life, it is during the spring time that the park really sparkles.

Finger Lakes: Along the shores of Seneca Lake is amazing wine country, an elegant way to explore the New York countryside. Biking or hiking trails criss-cross across this preserve nestled between Seneca and Cayuga lakes.

Shopping is must: From latest chic trends to summer hot picks, you can find everything in the spring fleas here. One can just 26

not miss Long Island’s city flea. This is an underrated market here for the locals. Having said that, it’s a must visit for tourists. This one is curated with the diversity and spirit of queens in mind. Choose from art, baked goods, handmade jewellery, photography and more. Other than this, Brooklyn flea that opens in May gives a fresh essence of spring shopping.

Birding: The best way to enjoy spring is getting outside to explore the outdoors. Here in New York, birding is a big hobby, and you can get into the sport by spending one or all six days at Wave hill with bird-inspired activities. From bird-themed art to walks through the park pointing out different species to science programmers and feathered demonstrations, Spring Wings is sure to open your child's eyes to a new experience.

Nightlife and bars: After the cold heavy winter, New York lights up and how during spring. Most of the open air venues are shut during the winter and open again in spring. When you’re done checking off more activities in New York, celebrate the warmth and renewal with refreshing craft beers and crisp cocktails under the sky. FOR ADVERTISING CALL 404-246-3256

THE FOODIE WARM LIQUIDS: Warm liquids, whether it’s hot tea or chicken soup, may help thin out mucus to ease congestion. It will also help you stay hydrated.

APPLES: Getting your recommended daily allowance of vitamin C can help protect against allergies and asthma. Also the antioxidant quercetin, found in the skin of apples has been linked with better lung function.

GRAPES:

Resveratrol, the antioxidant in the skin of red grapes has anti inflammatory powers that can help reduce allergy symptoms. In a 2007 study of children in Crete who follow a traditional Mediterranean diet, daily fruit intake including grapes, oranges, apples and tomatoes was linked with less frequent wheezing and nasal allergy symptoms.

FISH:

Some studies show that omega 3 fatty acids lower the risk of developing allergies and reduce symptoms. Salmon is a good option when it comes to fish, however, the downside is that it takes a lot of omega 3 fatty acids to see even minimal benefit. Also, it has been observed that in cultures where people eat more fish and less meat, overall asthma and allergy responses are less frequent.

Chocolate is considered a guilty indulgence by weight watchers, however a new technique developed by researchers at UK’s University of Warwick may soon change that. For a recent study, scientists injected chocolate with microbubbles of fruit juice, which succeeded in cutting the product’s total fat content up to 50% without sacrificing its silky texture. The tiny droplets of apple, orange and cranberry juice, which were each less than 30 microns in diameter, were infused into chocolate (milk, dark and white) to create a creamy emulsion. In conventional chocolate-making, fatty ingredients like cocoa butter and milk are used to create this creaminess. Another benefit to the new product is that bars left on the shelf for too long won’t develop a chalky white film. One downside (at least for some) is that the chocolate will retain a fruity flavor from the droplets. We’re excited by the prospect of a healthier chocolate bar, but fruit juice is still packed with sugar and that could lead to weight gain. That said, the fruit juice chocolate would contain less saturated fat, which might make it a healthier alternative for some people.

HEALTH & FITNESS Summers are synonymous with scorching sun and relentless heat, both of which do you no good. Here are a few tips that experts suggest to make your summer more enjoyable... Use Good Sunglasses. Just as we use sunscreen to keep the sun's UV rays from harming our skin, UV treatment in eyeglass lenses blocks those same rays from damaging our eyes. "Overexposure to ultraviolet light is thought to be a cause of cataracts, retinal damage and other eye problems. For summer the ideal sunglasses are those with a wrap around frame. It keeps the sun and the dust out and the cool in," says eye specialist Dr Keiki Mehta.

Lubricating Eye Drops. It’s not only the skin which dries out in summer, but even the eyes. Lubricating drops are ideal at this time of the year. Ideally the drops should be preservative free and fortunately in India many are now av ail abl e, literally off the shelf. Use the drops freely. They keep the eyes comfortable and quiet. Typically the Ultraviolet light tends to reflect off water and snow. “Therefore if you wish to indulge in any sporty activities, especially water sports, make sure you put on a good pair of sunglasses, else your eyes are prone to redness and also serious injuries including cornea damage,” points out eye specialist Dr Abhishek.

Use Protective Clear Glasses. Outdoor activities like camping have become common. However in doing camping activities like chopping wood or cooking around a camp fire be sure to use clear protective glasses. All too often flying embers in stiff wind can lead to severe eye burns which could have been easily avoided. States 30

eye surgeon Dr. Dinesh Sharma, “Outdoor sports like bicycling and dirt bike-riding are activities where the eyes are likely to be hit by flying debris and where clear glasses come handy.”

Eye Protection In The Swimming Pool. The cool water and the blue pool can be very inviting in summers. But please do not forget your goggles. In summer, the incidence of skin infection in swimming pools rises and most pools will increase the amount of chlorine or other chemicals to keep the water safe but this often leads to weepy irritable eyes. Be safe. Use your goggles and the moment you get out of the pool wash your eyes with fresh water.

DESI MAKING WAVES Hyderabad (IANS) Unlike girls of her age who dream of becoming doctors or engineers, she wanted to be something different. Many laughed at her dream, but today she is one among the few Muslim women in India to hold a commercial pilot's license. Having crossed the first step she is now preparing for the second - certification on a mid-sized passenger jet.

— By Mohammed Shafeeq

A bakery worker's daughter gets her wings (Interview) Coming from a modest background - her father is a bakery worker - Syeda Salva Fatima, with her sheer determination and hard work, entered the male-dominated field and became the first female from the poverty stricken old-city of Hyderabad to get the license. A resident of Sultan Shahi, a densely populated neighbourhood in the backward old city, Salva dreamt of flying aircraft since her school days. "When I was in the ninth standard I used to collect articles about the aviation industry and pictures of different aircraft. Like almost all the girls, my friends wanted to be either doctors or engineers, but I wanted to do something different," said 26-year-old Salva.

"I used to share my thoughts with my classmates and they always used to ask me whether this is really possible. But in the end, the dream came true thanks to Almighty Allah," said the burqa-clad woman, who studied at the Aizza School in Malakpet here. Eldest among four children of Syed Ashfaq Ahmed, she had no clue either as to how her dream would come true in view of the meagre earnings of her father. As her parents insisted that she opt for engineering, she enrolled for coaching conducted by Urdu daily 'Siasat' for EAMCET, a common entrance test for engineering and medical courses. It was 'Siasat' editor Zahid Ali Khan who gave wings to her dreams. On learning about her ambition, he offered to bear the entire expenditure for her training. It took a year for Salva to gather all information and prepare herself to take the final plunge. In 2007, she enrolled in the Andhra Pradesh Aviation Academy. "It was my first air experience and I was thrilled," recalled Salva, who had an adventurous nature from her school days and was a keen participant in extra-curricular activities and games.

She obtained a Private Pilot Licence and Flight Radio Telephone Operator Licence, besides a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). The training was tough, especially the written exams, and she slowly but steadily completed it. "I never came across any discrimination against women or Muslims. Everybody was cooperative." After obtaining her CPL in 2013, she found that this was not enough to get a pilot's job in an airline. She has to now undergo multiengine training and Type Rating to be able to fly bigger aircraft like the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A-320. Refusing to give up, she is making all efforts to and standing by her is her husband Shakeeb, whom she married in 2013.

Salva was also aware of the ups and downs in her path. "People used to ask me: 'You are a girl, what will you do by becoming a pilot? After your marriage, you will have to be a housewife.' I never cared about these comments and taunts because my family supported me," she said. Five years later, she successfully completed her initial training, logging 200 hours of flying on aircraft like the Cessna 152 and 172, including 123 hours of solo flight.

PARENTING

It takes the average American family two incomes to make ends meet. Lately, it appears harder and harder to bring those ends together when gas prices continue to rise, and food costs are ever increasing. If your imagination is too taxed from double overtime hours, and sifting through bills, take a break this spring with your family for some fun. Springtime activities range from no cost to big budget items, so find one your whole family can enjoy, without breaking the piggy bank. Take a family mini-vacation. Too few American families do not take a vacation, period. Those that do, too often think they must spend thousands of dollars on large family vacations in the summer. Take advantage of off-season prices in the spring and autumn by planning mini-vacations. Orient the timing around a three-day weekend and select a resort area with a few hours drive or plane ride. Try taking a vacation in your home town, or nearest large city, complete with hotel stay. Vacation is not just a luxury; it is a chance for your family to reconnect, refresh, and unwind. Institute a Picnic Sunday once a month. One problem with spring is scheduling. Baseball games, dance recitals, home repair, and the like all seem to monopolize Saturday. Sunday afternoons rarely contain obligated family appearances, and a small picnic lunch is a cheap way to while away the afternoon. No need for the adults to take on the full burden to plan this event. Get the kids involved in packing the picnic lunch the night before, and packing the car with the essential blanket, Frisbee or ball, and sunscreen. One to two hours at a neighborhood park will make memories for a lifetime. Take Chronicled Nature Walks. Find a field or nature trail in your area and take the kids on a weekly/ bi-weekly nature walk. Mother Nature has many tricks up her sleeve during this period of renewal. Children of all ages can notice animals coming out, 36

DESI EXPRESS MAGAZINE

buds appearing on trees, and creeks beginning to thaw. Find an outdoor festival or concert to attend. Municipalities and some larger churches frequently have a public spring carnival or festival. Tickets to outdoor concerts are often extremely inexpensive, or even free. Most places allow small lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers of non-alcoholic beverages for family oriented shows. Rural areas can find spring crop festivals, such as Strawberry Festivals. Even though these are all day events, or even multiple days over a weekend, don't try to drag your family through all of it. Go fly a kite. The last spring time activity with kids is a literal breeze. Kite flying is exhilarating, and nothing stops the imagination from wondering. At least until the kite smashes into the ground, which can be equally spectacular. Kites by nature are not meant to last multiple seasons, so stick to the cheap side for this activity. Spring is a time of growth and rejuvenation in the world around us. Don't wait until summer to take a breather from the stress of our "go, Go, GO!" culture. Families, more than ever, need time together. Springtime fun is a time to laugh, smile, enjoy the weather. —Elizabeth Ann West

HI-TECH GRIP

Is working from home isolating, or can the online media be one’s window to the world? THERE are many reasons why one would choose to set up an office at home. From the need to stay with growing up children, to an effort to save rent on workspace, the motivations are umpteen. But does working at home tend to isolate one from the world, or is the increasing usage of Internet amongst working professionals, who operate from their homes, their outlet to the outside world. Graphic artist Aamina Shazi, whose work place is an extension of where she lives, says the working from home format is completely in sync with her sensibilities. “I can play music in the background. The atmosphere is casual and I don’t have to fit into a routine time schedule,” she explains. But does working at home by her herself, give rise to an island-like feeling, we wonder. “No way, as good music, book, movies are just all around to keep me company all the time. The fact that I am my own boss is a big motivator too,” she adds. And to keep in touch with the world outside, Aamina makes sure to use social networking platforms that double up as the market place for her products too, she says. Independent public relations consultant in the city, Rita Mohan who works from

home says that working from home, while being connected to the world through the Internet is a great boon. “A work-from-home option can cut down commuting problems along with traffic congestions considerably, besides flexibility of work and lesser external disturbances,” she explains. Also, with an increase in communication methods like online media, cell phones and networking facilities, there’s hardly a scope to feel isolated at all, she adds. Musician and front man of the city-based band Thermal And A Quarter, Bruce Lee Mani, works actively with the online media to produce music. A work-from-home professional, Bruce believes that it is essential to discipline oneself and avoid distractions of any kind, when in a work from home set up. “Being one’s own boss has a lot of perks as one is not obliged or answerable to any higher authority, while executing something. There is a lot of creative freedom as well,” he says. On what keeps him motivated, while working from home, he says that finances, which are an integral part of any professional segment, keep him going. “There needs to be a steady flow of income and that thought keeps me on track even though I am an independent work-from home professional,” he adds. Bruce Lee Mani also emphasis the importance of the online media for professionals who work from home, adding “Social networking sites, blogs are an integral part of most business today. For those who don’t subscribe to the Internet, it can really push them backwards in their business.” Though face-to-face communication is an important aspect, follow-ups and product awareness through the Internet are inevitable, he points out.

MONEYWISE

Starting Are you wondering if there's a hard and fast rule about what income is taxable and what income is not taxable? The quick answer is that all income is taxable unless the law specifically excludes it. But as you might have guessed, there's more to it than that. Taxable income includes any money you receive, such as wages and tips, but it can also include non-cash income from property or services. For example, both parties in a barter exchange must include the fair market value of goods or services received as income on their tax return.

Nontaxable Income Here are some types of income that are usually not taxable:  Gifts and inheritances  Child support payments  Welfare benefits  Damage awards for physical injury or sickness  Cash rebates from a dealer for an item you buy  Reimbursements for qualified adoption expenses In addition, some types of income are not taxable except under certain conditions, including:  Life insurance proceeds paid to you because of the death of the insured person are usually not taxable. However, if you redeem a life insurance policy for cash, any amount that is more than the cost of the policy is taxable.  Income from a qualified scholarship is normally not taxable. This means that amounts you use for certain costs, such as tuition and required books, are not taxable. However, amounts you use for room and board are taxable.  If you received a state or local income tax refund, the amount may be taxable. You should have received a 2014 Form 1099-G from the agency that made the payment to you. If you didn't get it by mail, the agency may have provided the form electronically. Contact them to find out how to get the form. Be sure to report any taxable refund you received even if you did not receive Form 1099-G.

Important Reminders about Tip Income If you get tips on the job from customers, that income is subject to taxes. Here's what you should keep in mind when it comes to receiving tips on the job: 

Tips are taxable. You must pay federal income tax on any tips you receive. The value of non-cash tips, such as tickets, passes or items of value are also subject to income AFZAL MITHWANI CPA, EA, PFS (P) 770-817-7000 (Q) 770-817-7001 afzal@univisioncpa.com



Include all tips on your income tax return. You must include the total of all tips you received during the year on your income tax return. Bartering Income is Taxable Bartering is the trading of one product or service for another. Small businesses sometimes barter to get products or services they need. For example, a plumber might trade plumbing work with a dentist for dental services. Typically, there is no exchange of cash. If you barter, the value of products or services from bartering is taxable income. Here are four facts about bartering that you should be aware of:  Barter exchanges. A barter exchange is an organized marketplace where members barter products or services. Some exchanges operate out of an office and others over the Internet. All barter exchanges are required to issue Form 1099-B, Proceeds from Broker and Barter Exchange Transactions. The exchange must give a copy of the form to its members who barter and file a copy with the IRS.  Bartering income. Barter and trade dollars are the same as real dollars for tax purposes and must be reported on a tax return. Both parties must report as income the fair market value of the product or service they get.  Tax implications. Bartering is taxable in the year it occurs. The tax rules may vary based on the type of bartering that takes place. Barterers may owe income taxes, selfemployment taxes, employment taxes or excise taxes on their bartering income.  Reporting rules. How you report bartering on a tax return varies. If you are in a trade or business, you normally report it on Form 1040, Schedule C, Profit or Loss from Business.

IMMIGRATION NEWS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR H-4 WORK AUTHORIZATION USCIS announced the criteria for H-4 work authorization eligibility when they published a revised version of form I-765 (application for an employment authorization document). As you are aware, the H-4 is the dependent visa for the H-1B and it currently does not provide work authorization. Last year, the White House announced that they were creating a regulation that would afford work authorization for certain H-4 holders. USCIS announced that on February 6th, they submitted the final rule regarding H-4 EADs to the Office of Management and Budget which means that the publication of the final regulation is imminent. In order to qualify for the EAD, the H-1B spouse must have either an approved Form I-140, or proof that the H-4 dependent spouse's current H-4 admission or extension of stay was approved pursuant to the principal H-1B non immigrant's admission or extension of stay based on section 106(a) and (b) of AC21. The USCIS has created an updated Form I-765 for these filings and by regulation, the USCIS is required to adjudicate and issue the card within 90 days for extensions, but there is no time limit for initial EAD grants.

Change in Work Location for an H-1B Petition constitutes a Material Change In a recent decision this month, the Administrative Appeals Office (AAO) ruled that a Petitioner must file a new or amended H-1B petition with USCIS when a beneficiary's place of employment has changed to "geographical areas not covered by the original LCA." Such a scenario is now clarified to be a "material change" to the terms and conditions of employment. Indeed, current regulations already require Petitioners to file an amended or new H-1B petition (with a corresponding LCA) when a "material change" occurs in the terms and conditions of the H1B employment. This ruling now means, with certain exceptions (i.e. short-term placements, working in the same geographical area, etc.), that Petitioners who send their beneficiaries to work locations not initially supported by an existing LCA and H-1B petition will likely need to file an amended or new H-1B petition. In other words, newly filed LCA-even if it is set in place prior to location change-will no longer be enough to comply with law. In Matter of SIMEIO SOLUTIONS LLC, the AAO upheld with the Service Center's decision to revoke the beneficiary's H-1B. In this appeals case, the Petitioner had in place an approved H-1B petition (and corresponding LCA) for its beneficiary. Two months into the authorized work period, however, the beneficiary departed the U.S. and attempted to re-enter under this H-1B visa. When the consulate asked for more information, the beneficiary provided documents showing two new end-client locations. This triggered a site-visit by USCIS. Unable to locate the

petitioner's home/office address, USCIS issued a Notice of Intent to Revoke (NOIR) and the Petitioner responded and confirmed that the beneficiary was no longer working on that project in the location as specified on the initial H-1B petition and LCA. No amendment or new H-1B petition was filed with USCIS. The service center eventually revoked the H-1B petition and the AAO office upheld the revocation for failure to file a new or amended H-1B petition, determining that the two work locations, which were in new geographical areas, constituted a material change to the terms and conditions of employment. Following this decision, Petitioners who are relocating their employees to different worksites during an approved H-1B validity period should be aware that USCIS must be notified immediately via an amendment or new H-1B petition with a corresponding LCA. This is true even if the job duties and end-client are the same but the work location is now in a different geographic area as defined by the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), which is linked to an existing LCA. If you are anticipating location changes during a beneficiary's approved H-1B validity period, forward planning is required to accommodate the filing of an H-1B amendment and to discuss with your counsel what documentation is needed.

U.S. REPORT: INDIA MAY BE 3RD BIGGEST ECONOMY BY 2030 India may become the world's third-biggest economy by 2030, trailing only the U.S. and China, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest macroeconomic projections. India, ranked eighth in 2015, will climb past Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan to take third place in the world ranking, the report said. "There are lots of uncertainties," said Kasman. "Whether China grows at 4% or 6% matters an awful lot for where it looks like it's going to be in the global economy. Whether India grows at 3% or 8%, these are huge differences when you compound them over long periods of time.

CHAI LOUNGE BBC NAMES CHENNAI ONE OF TOP 5 CITIES TO VISIT AND LIVE With the opening of the new, air-conditioned Chennai Metro Rail, this east coast city that was once a mere jumping off point for the rest of India is becoming a destination in its own right, reports Lonely Planet. As one of India’s safest big cities, Chennai, which has 4.3 million residents, also feels less congested and hectic than other cities of its size because it is spread out. Easy access to beaches and historic temples, as well as the city’s Tamil culture, also make it appealing for expats. The suburbs have rapidly expanded and are nearly the size of Chennai itself. While most people have traditionally lived in houses, apartment buildings have been constructed in recent years, adding to expats’ housing options.

WHAT’S YOUR RASHI? Aries – March 21 through April 20

People can be really irritating sometimes. You and your coworkers, professional colleagues, friends, children, and partners are all getting along just fine. But your neighbors, extended family, and/or local community members are driving you nuts this month. They are bickering and arguing about religion, politics, academia, cultural issues, addictions, corporations, and any number of other topics. You are by nature, a smart person, but you could feel as if you are surrounded by opinionated idiots and/or that know-it-alls are refusing to listen to anything new that differs from their longtime established ideas of what is true. You are an excellent communicator, but even you will have trouble getting your point across to these people.

Taurus: April 21 to May 20. Neptune is in the area of your chart that governs your social interactions including those online. When things are going badly, Neptune can bring dysfunction, lies, secrets, mental health issues, and/or bureaucracy into play. This month, a handful of planets are moving through your personal wealth and self-worth sector trying to bless this area of your life. However, Neptune clashes with each of them causing a rift between your finances and your social life. It could be something minor like you just cannot afford to splurge on social events. But it could also be something major like an Internet scam or a financial disagreement involving a team, club, committee, association, friend, etc. The good news is this is a short -term issue and it should not cause long-term repercussions.

Cancer: June 21 to July 22.

Your partner or rival is finally done complaining about your reputation, boss, leadership style, and/or professional path. But now you are beginning to get upset about these things. Mostly, you are just sick and tired of know-it-alls telling you how to think and feel about political, religious, cultural, legal, academic, and/or media related topics. You are also beginning to tire of the bureaucracy and dramas at work. You can feel the need for a getaway vacation brewing in your soul.

Leo: July 23 to August 22.

Last month, you were feeling really extroverted, social, openminded, and you excelled as a team player. This month, you still want to do and be those things, but people in your social circles are sucking the joy out of your life. They are making it very difficult for you to have any fun, to spend time with your loved ones, and/or for you to experience a little “me time” with your favorite hobbies. They are also creating some financial or romantic trust issues and you should definitely have your guard up within these areas. Things may not be what they seem, so do your homework, do not be gullible and overly trusting.

Virgo: August 23 to September 22. You are quite focused on your professional life this month but your partner or a rival is not too happy about it. Because of Neptune’s involvement, they might be absent when you need them, or more likely they are acting dishonestly, dysfunctional, gullible, secretive, and/or in some way bringing more bureaucracy into the dynamic than what is necessary. They could be trying to smear your good name or they could simply being embarrassing you. Regardless, you are doing a great job, so just stay honest, ethical, and things should turn out in your favor.

Libra: September 23 to October 22. Issues involving language barriers, employee bigotry, longdistance communications or shipping, work related travel, mandates from the legal department, ineffective training classes, and/or a lack of formal education causing a drop in productivity levels for you and your coworkers. This is a shortterm dynamic and soon you will be able to move past it. You might also find that a boss, high profile client, or some other authority figure is paying attention to how well you maneuver your way through these issues and is seeing that you are a valuable and productive member of the team. Next month, you will have even more opportunities to earn the respect and admiration of your colleagues and it will not involve as much drama.

MAY 2015 Scorpio: October 23 to November 22. You and a lover could be dealing with infidelity, trust issues, or differing sexual needs. Joint finances could have the two of you stressed out and unable to really enjoy yourselves. It is also possible that children or pets are causing trust issues (like when they cannot be trusted to be left home alone). If you work in a happiness industry (music, theatre, fine dining, vacations, luxury sales, pet stores, etc.), you could find that revenues are low or you are having a hard time collecting your fair share of the profits. The good news is that you are doing really well at work and your boss and coworkers are appreciative of the genius and enthusiasm that you are bringing into the work environment day after day.

Sagittarius : November 23 to December 21.

Your partner or a competitor is really making your life stressful at this time. They are angry and argumentative towards you but more so towards someone or something in your home or private life. You come to agree with them, but that does not make it any less stressful. Still the two of you have opportunities to diplomatically agree that outside of the home -oriented issue, the two of you are getting along fine. Next month, will be much better. You will have plenty of opportunities to kiss and make up or to at least have some fun together.

Capricorn – December 22 through January 20. You are working a lot and trying to meet deadlines, but there have been a lot of issues creating delays and drama at work. As you battle these issues and try to get things done and try to get along with your coworkers, one of your partners or rivals is beginning to complain and nag about how something or someone at home is irritating them. They think you should be the one to fix it or they think it is your fault. There probably is not much you can do to resolve any of this, but it is against your nature to ignore it and allow it to just fester. Try to keep from becoming overly controlling and closed-minded while trying to implement your ideas, even if you are probably correct as to what ought to happen next.

Aquarius: January 20 to February 20. Like most people, you love to have a good time. But this month, your financial goals are clashing with your love life, parenting, hobbies, vacations, playtime activities, wish to splurge, and/or your desire to purchase luxury items. You need to be frugal and find ways to say, “I love you” and ways to entertain yourself without blowing your budget. The good news is that you are beginning to find it a bit easier to succeed at your financial and professional goals, so whatever financial damage you do create while splurging, you will probably be able to fix it in early July.

Pisces – February 19 through March 20 You have had some time to evaluate your housing situation, roommates, private life, retirement plans, and/or relationship with your parents. You have decided that things kind of stink and need to be healed, fixed, cleaned up, reorganized, etc. You are able to make a lot of progress in these areas, but they do not come easily and effortlessly. You have to put some serious effort into it. You end up ready to enjoy some playtime but find that once again, your financial goals clash with what you are trying to do. It is not easy to stay focused on one’s financial goals when there is so much fun to be had, but you have your household budget in order so things are not as bad as it might seem.

For important decisions, consult your personal intuition, doctor, accountant, lawyer, educator, or clergy as needed. It is best to be informed on all levels.

Gemini: May 21 to June 20. Last month, you spent a lot of time soul searching about your reputation and/or professional path and what you want it to be. This month, you are ticked off about the topic. You still have Neptune creating haziness, delusion, dysfunction, bureaucracies, secrets, and/or lies in your public life and professional goals sector. Your attempt to apply logic to this subject falls flat. You need to come at it from a more intuitive, imaginative, and/or idealistic approach.
