INDIAN GOVERNMENT IS CONSIDERING EXTENDING E-VISA VALIDITY TO 60 DAYS NEW DELHI: In a bid to further boost foreign tourist arrivals , government is considering doubling the validity of an etourist visa from 30 days to 60 days, apart from allowing at least two entries on it. An e-tourist visa holder at present is entitled to a single entry. Another important proposal being discussed in the home ministry is extending the electronic visa facility to medical tourists. "We are considering facilitating foreign nationals who visit India for short-term medical treatment by issuing
them an e-visa ," an official said. This means that they can apply for an e-medical visa online and be issued an electronic travel authorization (ETA) via email. They will only need to fly in with a printout of ETA or e-medical visa to clear immigration at designated airports across India," a home ministry official said. Currently the Visas are valid for a single entry only and cannot be extended. A valid passport and visa (traditional or e-visa) are required for travel to India.

A GOLD PASS AT CUSTOMS FOR NRIS NEW DELHI: Non-resident Indians visiting India loaded with jewelry to attend a wedding or function and citizens going overseas carrying gold for similar occasions may no longer get hassled at customs in the near future. The government is preparing to ensure trouble-free customs clearances for such travel into and out of India. Stringent norms that were put in place to curb gold smuggling through personal baggage had led to problems for those bringing in jewelry for personal use. The Central Board of Excise & Customs is readying a new set of guidelines that will make it easier at customs ports to bring in precious jewelry only for personal use under the baggage rules. "We are examining the norms. We understand that some people get jewelry for weddings and take it back as well," said a senior finance ministry official.

Arijit Singh’s abject public apology to Salman Khan on Facebook has left his fans shocked. The Bollywood singer wrote a post saying Salman felt insulted by something he had said at an awards’ nite and he has been apologizing ever since. Arijit, who has lent his voice to chartbusters such as Tum Hi Ho and Agar Tum Saath Ho, also begged Salman to retain a song he has sung in the upcoming Sultan, Please do not remove the song that I sang for you in Sultan… I want to retire with at least one song of you keeping in my library. Please do not take away this feeling.” He later deleted the post. It has now been revealed what led to bad blood between the two. Sources said the incident dates back to 2014 when Arijit went up to receive an award from Salman Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. He told the duo, “Aap logon ne toh sula diya (you put us to sleep)”. To that, Salman replied, “Aur isme humara koi dosh nahi hai, agar aise gaane bajte rahenge…” and hummed the tune of Arijit’s Tum Hi Ho. Salman’s manager told Times of India that the singer met Salman a month ago, after which he thought the tiff between the two was over. However, on May 24 he learnt that the song he had recorded for Sultan was not being retained. Believing that Salman was still miffed with him, he tried texting and calling the actor but to no avail. Salman had also got Arijit’s songs removed in some of his recent releases including Kick and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, according to the report. Actor Nikhil Dwivedi, considered a Salman loyalist, claims that Salman has nothing to do with decision on Arijit’s song. Nikhil’s tweet claimed Salman did not get the producers of Sultan Yash Raj Films to delete Arijit Singh’s song but that it was true the actor refused to meet the singer.

Chef Vikas Khanna Indian regional cuisines becoming popular in America New Delhi (IANS) Be it delicacies from Kashmir or the northeast, Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna says regional Indian cuisine is being increasingly lapped up in the US. The Indian chef, based in New York, believes that the main reason is that most lovers of Indian cuisine are looking for something beyond the globally-renowned Punjabi dishes. Khanna, who was raised in Amritsar, says regional cuisine is taking centre -stage in the US. "Today in New York, I can distinguish between food from Andhra Pradesh and the northeastern states. I think we can do a lot of more research to bring in fresh cultural and new flavor combinations to our diners. Regional cuisine is becoming more popular in America. "I think that the primary reason is that most of the Indian food lovers are looking for much more than Punjabi fare. This gives us the awesome opportunity to bring the world of regional cuisine forward... from Kashmir to the northeast," Khanna, who considers Indian cuisine to be "beautiful in its simplicity", in an email interview from New York. In fact, he opines that India has come a long way. "From great legends to the human spirit, Indians are becoming world heroes. But, yes, food and diversification are our soft powers," he explained. And this holds true in his case. After presenting his book titled "Utsav - A culinary epic of Indian festivals" at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, the star chef unveiled his documentary "Kitchens of Gratitude" at the gala's 69th edition this year. The documentary takes forward the chef's ideology that food has always been the thread which brings people together and that it transcends all barriers of caste, creed and faith thus, encouraging people to share. The documentary features personalities like the Dalai Lama, motivational speaker Deepak Chopra, spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi and Pastor Craig Mayes of the New York City Rescue Mission, among others. "This time it was more overwhelming. I was entering a new space in the food world. 'Utsav' is one of my 25 published books, but 'Kitchens of Gratitude' was a new space we were entering. But with such phenomenal love and support we could do almost anything," he said.

His remarks came soon after his brother Sohail reportedly got agitated and badly abused a journalist late Thursday night when he and their father Salim Khan came out of a restaurant, and amidst a crowd, were asked questions about Salman's marriage. At the announcement of the IIFA Awards this year, Salman, to queries about if Sohail had misbehaved, said: "He didn't misbehave. Ever since Salman stepped out with his rumoured girlfriend Iulia Vantur, a Romanian news presenter, at actress Preity Zinta's wedding, rumours were rife that the couple are going to get married soon. I DON'T PICK FILMS ON THE BASIS OF ACTRESS' ROLE: MADHAVAN Mumbai (IANS) Actor Sonu Sood, who has worked with international superstar Jackie Chan in the film "Kung Fu Yoga", says he got to learn a lot from him and that it was a life-changing experience. "Great experience working with him. We have completed almost a 150-day schedule. We're going to reveal the first look on June 10 in Shanghai at a press conference. "I had a great time and I got to learn a lot... It's a kind of a life-changing experience for any actor," Sonu said at the trailer launch of actress Niharica Raizada's new film "Warrior Savitri". Working on the film also helped Sonu maintain his 'fitness freak' persona. "When we were shooting with Jackie, we would keep doing something or the other, like martial arts, stretching, and other activities, the whole day," he said. Jackie had even given gifted Sonu a jacket, which Sonu had proudly tweeted about. About the differences between Hollywood and Bollywood, Sonu said: "Every film teaches you, every actor, every production house, every director teaches you something. "But when you do a Hollywood production, the scale is big, the production budgets are very big; the sequences are very big. So, as an actor, you get good exposure. I always believe that whether the film is big or small, as long as you are ready to learn, you will definitely learn." Sonu has always been open to work in films, irrespective of the language. "That is why I have worked in all the languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Chinese," he said. "Kung Fu Yoga" also stars other Indian actors like Amyra Dastur and Disha Patani.

New Delhi (IANS) R. Madhavan says he is often questioned about his female co-stars walking away with awards instead of him, but the actor is not bothered about it. He says he doesn’t opt for films on the basis of the length of an actress' role.
This year, Kangana Ranaut clinched the National Film Award in the Best Actress category for her superlative dual act in "Tanu Weds Manu Returns", and martial artist turned-actress Ritika Singh won the National Award in the Special Mention category for the "gutsy performance” of a boxer in “Irudhi Suttru” ("Saala Khadoos"). Madhavan was the male protagonist in both the films. He said: “Everyone keeps on telling me that heroines have a role of greater importance in my films that they even walk away with awards (hinting at National Film Awards). But the point is that I don't select films on that basis. "I have never thought to take films where they have small or irrelevant roles. Such type of stories don’t interest me.” Madhavan shared his views while hosting a gala event here on Saturday to mark the completion of two years of the Narendra Modi government. The actor went on to say: “If some director tells me that I have to slap a female star for a scene, then I drop that film only. I have never raised my hand on women onscreen as well.” Madhavan, who looked sophisticated in a black kurta and white pyjama teamed up well with a white stole, feels his outlook is all about conditioning. “I think all this is about conditioning, how you are raised, your surroundings. My mother was an empowered woman, and my sister got what I got. I never felt that they are less than us.”
