Work and home competing for my attention have made it a humdinger of a week. Both have had niggling issues.
NRIS TURN TO STARTUP EXPERTISE FOR THEIR REAL ESTATE INVESTMENTS
HYDERABAD: Startups in the home aggregator and rental space say a growing number of non-resident Indians are seeking their expertise to manage their real estate properties in India, marking a shift from the general practice of entrusting the task with traditional brokers. India has an estimated 4 million
unattendedproperties listed in the name of NRIs. Startups like NestAway, Grabhouse and No broker cited higher rentals, home insurance and assurance of better management of property as some of the reasons for the increasing footfalls. "As home rental startups generally deliver 20-50% higher returns compared to returns they were receiving from the conventional brokers in the market, the NRIs find us attractive," said Amarendra Sahu, cofounder of NestAway, a Bengaluru-based home aggregator backed by Ratan Tata.

INDIA WAS WORLD'S LARGEST REMITTANCE RECIPIENT IN 2015
WASHINGTON: India was the world's largest remittance recipient in 2015 despite experiencing a USD 1 billion drop from the previous year, the first decline in its remittances since 2009, the World Bank said today. India retained its top spot in 2015, attracting about USD 69 billion in remittances, down from USD 70 billion in 2014, the World Bank
said in its annual report 'Migration and Development Brief'. "Remittances are an important and fairly stable source of income for millions of families and of foreign exchange to many developing countries, However, if remittances continue to slow, and as in the case of Central Asian countries, poor families in many parts of the world would face serious challenges including nutrition, access to health care and education." said Augusto Lopez-Claros, Director of the World Bank's Global Indicators Group.

The Group is on a US tour to help Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of America’s 2016 Annual Fundraiser to help eradicate illiteracy, educate and empower rural and tribal India through Ekal’s one-teacher schools. They performed a splendid and enthralling concert to regale a jam-packed hall of over 500 music-lovers of Atlanta. The lamp-lighting was done by luminaries of the Atlanta community: Mr. R. Srinivasan and Mr. DV Singh, representing Consulate General of India in Atlanta, Mr. Harsha Agadi, Chairman of Crawford companies, Smt. Kusum Khurana, President of VHPA and Treasurer of Atlanta Hindu Society, assisted by Ekal’s Atlanta Chapter President, Sh. Shiv Aggarwal and Vice President, Rina Gupta. Starting the event with Holi flair, all guests entered the hall which was fragrant with fresh flowers and incense and were welcomed with a gulaal teeka. Sipping a delectable “Thandai” prepared by VHPA volunteers, and later enjoying a delicious full-course dinner served by Ashiana, the guests mixed and mingled for an hour before the show, which promptly started at 7pm. Ekal’s Regional Administrator, Ajay Upadhyaya’s cheerful welcome was in his signature style through a few lines of the song, “Hume tumse pyaar kitna” implying how much the Ekal school children love their supporters. — Contd. on Page 06

EIGHT ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL RACKETEERING IN GEORGIA
“WORLD EQUALITY DAY”

Kanaiyalal Patel, Kapilaben Patel, Hardeep Sanghera, Deepak Bajaj, Rebecca Bajaj, Richa Patel, Babubhai Patel and Ankitkumar Patel are all charged with racketeer influence and corrupt organizations.
Warner Robins police served 14 search warrants at multiple locations in Warner Robins, Centerville, Milledgeville, and Macon. They were also issued at four residences three homes in the Grove Point subdivision and one apartment at the Amber Place Community. The Department of Revenue, the Lottery Corporation and the District Attorney’s Office is assisting in the investigation, according to a police press release. “The machines are designed to be in payout only for either, you know, gifts or trinkets or items of a very small dollar amount,” Warner Robins Police Chief Brett Evans told 13wmaz.com. “In the stores we go through with our search warrants on, they’ve been documented paying out in cash, so anytime there’s a cash payout, that’s an automatic violation of the laws of Georgia. Any time you’re involved in an investigation like this, they hide money. They hide items, and they hide things, and they purchase things with the money that they’re making from these.” Evans expects more warrants to be issued and more arrests will be made.

— Contd. from Page 01 Former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark, the keynote speaker, said that Ambedkar’s ideals were relevant today as the UN embarks on its ambitious program of sustainable development goals (SDG). “Ambedkar understood that inequalities pose fundamental challenges to well-being” and the UN had adopted the elimination of inequality as its goal, she said. Clark is now the head of the UN Development Programme and a candidate for Secretary General of the UN in the upcoming elections. The theme of the celebrations organized for the first time by the Indian Mission to the UN along with the Kalpana Saroj Foundation and the Foundation for Human Horizon was “Combating inequalities for the achievement of SDG” and included a panel discussion on the relevance of Ambedkar’s message to these goals. India’s Permanent Representative to the
UN, Syed Akbaruddin, said: “Last year, when the its 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, we, as Indians, noticed traces of Ambedkar’s vision in the Sustainable Development Goals’.” These could be seen in the parallels between the SDG goals of eliminating inequality and the Constitution that Ambedkar developed for India, enshrining the principle of equality, and the UN’s goal of achieving gender equality and his commitment to affirmatively empowering women, he said. More than 550 people diplomats, international officials, academics, civil society activists and Indian residents from across the US filled a UN conference room for the celebrations. The Ambedkar celebrations featured two remarkable Dalits, who acknowledged they owed their positions to Ambedkar. Kalpana Saroj, whose foundation co-sponsored the celebration, is the chair
presented their “Literacy Heroes Challenge” which is an essay contest to be promoted through Georgia schools with the aim of supporting Ekal’s goal of eradicating illiteracy. Based on their call, literacyhero.com website immediately had 100 unique visitors and 5 subscribers through audience access on smartphones! Mr. Kodithala later shared upbeat news, “Varoon has launched the site in his school and he is meeting his principal to pitch this idea. Based on our collective outreach efforts, we now have 12 subscribers to the challenge and $75 in donations.” Being impressed with Ekal’s work, Sh. Kalpesh Patel of Raja Foods and H2K Infosys have become permanent sponsors to help Ekal bring quality programs to Atlanta audiences. All the sponsors, dignitaries, media partners, Fifth Season decorators, Ekal, VHPA volunteers who worked tirelessly in the background got a big round of applause. TODAY, ROLES NOT RESTRICTED TO ETHNICITY: FREIDA PINTO it will be "weird" if actors only get to play roles belonging to their nationalities. Gone are the days when actors from different nationalities were restricted to playing roles based on their ethnicity, feels US-based Indian actress Freida Pinto. She also says that nobody is tagged as an 'American', 'British' or 'Indian' in the current film scenario worldwide. The 31-year-old, who started her career in films with "Slumdog Millionaire",
"Actors want to enter the film world saying that they only want to play that ethnicity in their entire career gets a little weird because that will be very limiting in many ways," said Freida. I've been living in America for the last seven years and when I look around I don't really mock people like 'that's an American' or 'that's an Australian' or 'an English men'.

Vastu-Perfect Home LIVING IN SERENITY New Delhi (IANS) The interior of your home plays a crucial role in its serenity. By simply making a few changes in your home, you can definitely live peacefully and with more happiness, says an expert. Prasad Kulkarni, CEO, MahaVastu, Mumbai, suggests how: WIND CHIMES: The common decorative
items in most homes can be placed in north, northwest and west vastu zones. In the north, you can place a wind chime made up of five rods; this will attract new opportunities in your career. A seven-rod wind chime in the west brings overall gains for you. LOCATION OF DRESSING TABLE:
Placement of your dressing table in the right direction can help in improving your relationships. It should be kept adjacent to your bedroom, but avoid placing it on the southern wall in the southwest zone because then it will increase expectations from your spouse, which will create problems in the relationship. Ideally, placement of the dressing table should be decided keeping in mind the effect of mirror in Vastu. STTUES OR IDOLS OR PAINTINGS OF BUDDHA: If you have a figure of
Lord Buddha, place it in the northeast Vastu zone of your house. According to the directions of alchemy in Mahavastu, north-east zone is responsible for your connectivity with yourself. When you place a symbol of spiritually elevated person like Lord Buddha, it sends a message to your house that you want to get connected with your higher self. Accordingly, the space energies start programming your subconscious mind and you feel connected. The connectivity in turn facilitates new ideas, creativity and clarity of your mind. PAIR OF WHITE HORSES: Pair of white horses: You can place a sculpture of a pair of white horses in the northwest zone of your home. It will facilitate financial support, like a bank loan, for you.

New Delhi (IANS) She is just one film old, but is already making waves in the tinsel town for her acting skills as well as fashion and style quotient. Actress Athiya Shetty says the tag of Bollywood's fashionista comes with a “strange and surreal feeling”. Athiya, who is daughter of Suniel Shetty, added that she has never made an attempt to “be that person”.
Indian Journey India: Journey of dis covery, from culinary to monumental
When we asked her about how it feels to be known as one of the fashionable actresses from the younger brigade, she said: “It has always been a strange and surreal feeling because I have never made an effort to try and be that person."
My entry point to India was Mumbai and, aptly enough, it began with a magnificent view of the Gateway of India and the Arabian Sea from the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The Taj, of course, is a fairy tale, opulent abode, full of old world charm. My stay in Mumbai was a gastronomic journey of taste and discovery. At the Taj Palace's iconic Masala Art restaurant, I sampled their signature dish the unique local Bombay Tiffin meal, inspired by the famed Dabbawalas whose six-sigma quality delivery system story amazes me.
"I think I have to obviously thank my stylist (Ami Patel), who has most importantly given me my personality through my dressing and I think that is what really important.” Sharing her fashion fundas, Athiya said the key to being stylish is to be comfortable with "whatever you are wearing".
If the Bombay Tiffin meal opened up the local flavors and wonderful aromas of the city, then my meal at the early 20th century Parsi eatery, Britannia and Co. in South Bombay with Beri Beri Rice Pulav; Raspberry Soda was another fascinating culinary expedition.

Just a few days in India were enough for me to fall in love with the ubiquitous local brew flavored with ginger and cardamom the Masala Chai. But food was just one part of my journey of discovery. Between all the business meetings there was some time to soak in Indian culture and see some impressive monuments.

Sex once a week HAPPIEST CONNECTION for your relationship
Toronto (IANS) Countering a common perception that more sex can improve relationships, a study has found that couples are at their happiest when they hop into bed just once a week.
DESI EXPRESS NEWSPAPER
"Although more frequent sex is associated with greater happiness, this link was no longer significant at a frequency of more than once a week," said lead researcher Amy Muise University of Toronto-Mississauga in Ontario, Canada. "Our findings suggest that it's important to maintain an intimate connection with your partner, but you don't need to have sex everyday as long as you're maintaining that connection," Muise noted. But this study, based on surveys of more than 30,000 Americans collected over four decades, is the first
to find that association is not there after couples report having sex more than once a week on average. The findings appeared in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science. It's possible that for single people, the link between sex and happiness is dependent on a number of factors such as the relationship context in which the sex occurs and how comfortable people are with sex outside of relationship. The findings are most representative of couples those in established relationships.
My next stop, Delhi, brought me face to face with 1,000 elephants, not in a Jungle Safari, but in the impressively carved Akshardham temple. A drive past the biggest Presidential Palace in the world, the Rashtrapati Bhavan, and the impressive India Gate brought home the grandly classical architecture of Lutyens Delhi. On my last day I visited the Taj Mahal, which was an undeniably breathtaking experience. It's an ode to love like nothing else and no wonder tourists throng to the Taj. The love story of Mumtaz Mahal reminded me of our own Empress Elisabeth "Sisi". Perhaps it is this sense of romance that has inspired Indian filmmaker Karan Johar famed for his love stories like "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" to choose Vienna as the setting for his upcoming movie, "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", starring Aishwarya Rai, Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor. The heart always finds a way to make connections. Vienna and India certainly did!

Devil Inside My Mind – Author: Dr. Gaurav Nigam – BOOK REVIEW Imagine you are on a treadmill and don't have a pause button or you are driving a car that has no brakes in it. For the individual in either of the situations, death or being seriously hurt is guaranteed. Dr. Gaurav Nigam's first book, "Devil Inside My Mind", reflects this roller-coaster ride of the narrator Amit Saxena and his "unique living profile" with his struggles and triumphs pertaining to his obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

"I have severe OCD and it's terrible, it's demonic and you have no idea how I feel," is Saxena's confession, which brings out the honesty of the narration. The cover of the book, which portrays a yellowish worn out paper on which words are scribbled, runs parallel with the title and, being struck off at various intervals, appears meaningless, which is the actual state of his life. The book brings out the vivid insights about Saxena's OCD and its effect on his day-to-day life. Essaying his doomed social life, the book reflects his struggle to fit in, compounded by the quirks associated with his OCD and the shocking and
dreadful expressions of what all his mind dictates he do. "I wanted to show a real picture of OCD and the tougher parts of anxiety disorder," Nigam explained. The OCD begins in Saxena, with the desire to become a topper and to conquer the achiever's badge in school. This strong urge becomes the basis of his life and pushes him through gory and dingy lanes. "I hope that readers would sense the struggles that people living with OCD go through and a determination for winning through their own problems," Nigam concluded.
Work and home competing for my attention have made it a humdinger of a week. Both have had niggling issues, sundry stress factors, and the fatigue that hits at the end of a harried day. Your temper is on a short fuse and needing peace how often have you felt that all you need at such moments is to return home and curl up in silence? Surveys have said (conducted on British moms) that on an average, a working mother gets only 26 minutes of me-time in a day to the mother of hyperactive under-fives, working or not, even 26 minutes might seem like a bit of a stretch a real luxury. And so it transpires that at a time when I’m in need, dire need of rest to prevent a meltdown, it isn’t convenient. I simply cannot have a breakdown at a time when all help is on leave, the dog (my other baby) needs to be fed and walked, and my just turned five-year-old needs attention, because finally mommy’s home from office and there’s so much to tell her. Fingerprints on my spectacles, a pink butterfly on my wrist, and baubles all over. I am at last ready. I have a revelation: no spa, beauty or relaxation treatment on earth can match up to the fat, loving baby fingers playing with your hair, teasing it into a mess, even as a little voice tells you that its owner’s singular efforts you now look more pretty than that epitome of beauty, school mate. Though you are mildly aggrieved that you do not touch this standard of perfection otherwise, you are suddenly deliriously overjoyed to have accomplished it now. The day’s horrors have melted there is a pink Barbie universe and rose-tinted glasses many sizes too small perched on my nose and I am at present seeing the world through them in perfect compliance with universal will (and my daughter’s). I am where I have wanted to be all day through, I know this now. I am at once wordless and tearful. No, it’s not the meltdown moment coming on all evening. It’s my grateful-to the-universe for-showing me what’s-right in-my-world moment. I am fussed up, beautified, beribboned fit for a gypsy. I am also unreservedly overcome.

FARHAN AKHTAR People confuse Reel chemistry with Real life New Delhi (IANS) Ever since the news of his separation from his wife of 15 years emerged, Farhan Akhtar's personal life has been surrounded by rumors of link-ups with his co-actors. The actor-singer-filmmaker only laughs at it and says people sometimes confuse onscreen chemistry of actors with their real life. Farhan, who announced in January his separation from his celebrity hairstylist wife Adhuna Bhabani, with whom he shares two daughters, Shakya and Akira has been linked to his "Wazir" co-star Aditi Rao Hydari, his "Rock On!! 2" actress Shraddha Kapoor and even with Kalki Koechlin, with whom he worked in film "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara". Asked why actors end up in the midst of such link-up rumors in the first place, he said "Well, I really don't know why the rumors spread like fire and why the rumors have started. I guess people enjoy what they watch on screen and feel the chemistry that is happening on screen... maybe (they) confuse it with what is happening in real life." Farhan Akhtar, whose association with contemporary menswear brand Code by Lifestyle has been extended , says there's a change in the fashion code in Bollywood movies as characters have moved towards "real and believable" looks. "Now when you watch a movie, everyone looks like they belong to the character and even their clothes belong to that character. I think this is a very big change as this has made the experience of watching a movie feel more real and believable.

I AM A FULL TIME STRUGGLER: SAYS NEHA DHUPIA
SALIM MERCHANT MATCHES SHOME'S TALENT Mumbai (IANS) I am always wary of musicians turning actors. But guess what? Salim Merchant does a decent job with his acting debut in "Fired", a short film. The title has a layered relevance in the plot. "Fired" is a well-executed slice-of-life film. There are only two characters and a faceless waiter who barges into the couple’s conversation. But there are lots of people bustling all around the couple. Life, you see, has a way of going on even when you are making plans with your loved one that could make or break you.

Mumbai (IANS) After the shocking death of TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee, actor Eijaz Khan says that “living life under public microscope for actors, adds pressure to live the perfect life” says Eijaz, he shared the difficulties that come with being a celebrity and has given an insight to the turmoil that actors go through. “A lot is being said about the heartbreaking demise of a young, 24-year-old girl. Risking the assumption from the intelligentsia, that another disgrace is pimping a tragedy, I sit here to write my two bits. What might give me some authority is the fact that I've been there a couple of times,” he posted on his social media page. “Why does one become an ‘actor’? I think it's because as individuals, they are so uncomfortable in their own skin, unhappy of who or what they are, that their only form of ‘escapism’ is to live/portray someone completely different (escapism - remember that),” Eijaz added. He even says actors are “inherently unstable elements and eventually “lead turbulent lives”. His outpouring of sentiments comes soon after Pratyusha, an actress who became popular as grown-up Anandi in TV show "Balika Vadhu" was found hanging from the cieling of her apartment in Mumbai and succumbed to it. She is said to have been going through issues in her personal life, but the police is investigating the matter. “I , me , myself take precedence over family and true friends. You feel entitled to a unique set of yardsticks. The fact that you have started living under a public microscope addspressure to live that perfect life. This happens so fast that no amount of training can actually ready you. The pressure leads to insecurity. Insecurity of losing or keeping up with all you have,” he posted. “And when all of this is coupled with a heartbreak or lost love, it gets dangerous. What coping mechanism can one resort to? Mostly escapism. Which in turn leads to self-doubt, lack of self-worth… depression. Hardly a week goes by without a celebrity ‘opening up’ about their struggle,” he added.
