INTRODUCTION I’m pretty sure I know exactly what you’re thinking… “I have tried everything that I can think of to get healthy. I have tried every diet under the sun. I’ve tried eating right by removing sugar, dairy, and processed food, added extra veggies and protein. I’ve tried crossfit, zumba, high fit, jogging, you name it! I’ve really given it an honest effort with little (or temporary at best) to no results. Certainly not what I would expect considering how hard I’ve tried. So I find myself doing the same things over and over again... and now, not only am I dealing with the weight issues, but I am constantly tired (especially in the afternoon), my joints are aching, I feel bloated at times, constipation and brain fog. When I finally did lose a few pounds, I went right back to my old eating habits and gained it all right back…... and then some!” Sound familiar? Well you’re not alone! Maybe you want to blame it on your age or your metabolism – but it’s neither! You blame yourself then resort to diet pills, HCG, starving yourself, eating only protein, etc. On and on the cycle goes! You know this isn’t healthy, but what can you do? It’s common knowledge that at least 90% of all diets fail. We all know that.
WELL……I’LL LET YOU IN ON A LITTLE SECRET…NONE OF THESE ARE THE REAL PROBLEM! How do I know? I would like to say it’s because I’m super smart, but we all know that’s not it! However, after working with thousands of patients over the last two decades, patterns have emerged that are common to so many people today, and the solution is so much simpler than we are led to believe. We are told you just need to eat less and exercise more, receive B vitamin shots, think positive, HCG, consume tons of protein etc. This approach may work (usually temporarily) for some. However, for the person whose body is out of balance, and has been for a long time, the source of the problem remains, and the weight, which is a symptom of the underlying problem, comes back or never leaves in the first place. Let’s face it, we know all what we “should” eat – more veggies, proteins, avoid the junk, and so on. What about when that does not work? Even if it does, and you change your lifestyle so much that you are always denying yourself the foods you love, who wants to live like that? What if I told you there was a way to reboot your body to burn fat again, increase energy, fix digestive problems and feel amazing again without denying yourself for the rest of your life? Interested? In the end, a lot of this boils down to hormones – but hold on – not how you might think! I am not talking about hormone replacement. You see, there are two types of hormones, fat-storage hormones and fat-burning hormones. The main problem most people face is that their hormones are stuck in fat-storage mode. I will explain how this happens and what you can do about it, but understand, if your hormones are in fat storage mode, no amount of healthy lifestyle will work! So stop banging your head against the wall. At Elevated Health, our approach is different. Instead of looking at symptoms – being overweight, digestive issues, diabetes, or inflammation – we look at the underlying causes. Our approach focuses on assessing the areas in your life and within your body that cause weight gain. Then, we work with you to provide solutions and how to address them. Very often, people come to me already living a healthy lifestyle, but really not getting the results.

If this sounds familiar, your body may simply be out of balance! Restore balance by cleansing the body and never diet again!
HAVING A HARD TIME LOSING WEIGHT? There’s a good chance it’s not your fault. There are many hidden health issues that sabotage weight loss efforts. The key to lasting weight loss is to find and heal the underlying CAUSES of weight gain. Then and only then is weight loss permanent. For instance, many factors can cause your body to be in fat-storage mode rather than fatburning mode, which makes sustained weight loss difficult and often impossible! An imbalance in healthy gut bacteria ( causing gas, reflux, constipation and bloating, etc.), environmental toxins, sluggish adrenals/thyroid, and stress—either current or from your past—are a few factors we screen for that help us get to the CAUSE of your weight gain. Reality Check: By cleansing and rebooting the body, not only will you lose weight, but you will:
NEVER NEED TO DIET AGAIN! THE GUT Eighty percent of the antibiotics produced today are fed to ANIMALS! As I mentioned, the body is often out of balance and hormones are in fat-storage mode. An example of imbalance is when there is too much bad bacteria in your guts. This triggers the release of your fat-storage hormones. Thisalso leads to yeast growth (Candida), which causes cravings for sugar, flour, grains, and alcohol, causing the cycle to continue. Since you cannot out-will your physiology, you crave the wrong foods. Gut imbalances can also cause leaky gut syndrome, allergies, autoimmune diseases, celiac disease, Hashimoto’s, fibromyalgia, and others. There are many causes of a gut imbalance. Some include: antibiotics, processed food (and their questionable ingredients), coffee, prescription drugs, over the counter drugs and stress. THE THYROID “The average American eats 6-9 POUNDS of chemicals in their food each year!” Can we discuss your thyroid? Maybe you suspect your thyroid is sluggish, but have been told it’s perfectly fine. Well, blood work may not tell the whole story. We routinely see people whose thyroid simply needs a “reboot”. Did you know environmental toxins can seriously mess up thyroid hormone production? In fact some of these toxins can replace iodine which is a necessary nutrient for the production of thyroxine. This in turn makes your thyroid hormone levels appear good on blood work, but not very functional in real life. STRESS Stress (physical, mental or emotional) can also increase fat storage hormones such as cortisol. While we cannot always eliminate stress, we can change how our bodies respond to it…….. This may at first seem a little different, but we use an amazing technology— called Mind Fit—This technology can be used to help limit the negative effects of stress on your body, and in turn, the weight gain caused by stress. We will be discussing this later on in this book. 801-447-1249 | ElevatedHealthUtah.com

TOXINS I’ll cover this in detail below, but for now, just know this: toxins make us fat and screw up our hormones!.... Did you know that MSG (a synthetic flavor-enhancer) is in up to 40% of food we consume. MSG is an excitotoxin that can potentially lead to destruction of nerve cells.
WHAT NOW? Healing your body through cleansing is absolutely essential in order to achieve lasting weight loss. In addition to lasting weight loss, people also report increased energy, clearer skin, resolved digestive issues (constipation, acid reflux, hormones balanced), less joint pain, better sleep, clearer thinking—the list goes on! Cleansing is also a powerful preventive measure for illnesses and disease such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, insomnia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, digestive issues, arthritis, neuropathies, and sleep apnea. Your body works very hard to balance itself, expel toxins, and remain at an optimal weight. However, overexposure to stress, toxic food, chemical cleaners, plastics, pesticides and other chemicals can end up overwhelming our body’s ability to heal itself— leading to illness, obesity, and disease. At Elevated Health, we have helped people to empower themselves to transform their bodies and health for years. In doing so, we have made discoveries along the way that hold the key to unlocking healthy, sustained weight loss. We hope that you will enjoy reading The Top 10 Weight Loss Discoveries and hope it helps you tap into your body’s true potential. 1. IT ALL BEGINS IN THE GUT Most people today have an imbalance in gut bacteria, which can result from eating processed, pre-packaged foods—items from boxes, bags, cans, wrappers, etc. Also in this category are bread, flour, sugar, coffee, and alcohol. After long-term consumption, we end up causing significant damage to our digestive systems. If you combine that with multiple rounds of antibiotics throughout the course of our lives, we set the stage for some serious problems. Digestive disorders such as: acid reflux, celiac, gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, allergies, inflammation, autoimmune disease, depression, anxiety, fatigue, and aches are all linked to problems in the gut. Let’s go a little deeper. Over time, processed foods decrease the stomach’s ability to produce enough acid. The stomach starts churning to digest, but without enough acid, the food doesn’t break down properly. When the stomach contracts to move the food along, the valve at the bottom of the stomach says, “no way, not letting that in,” and stays shut. Now the
4

stomach is contracting and the valve at the bottom isn’t opening because it is trying to protect a very delicate and important environment—your intestines, or gut. The valve above the stomach, leading back towards the esophagus, is already shut. When the stomach contracts, trying to squeeze the food down into the intestines, you have two valves shut. The stomach squeezes tight but the food has nowhere to go. How do you suppose that feels? Exactly! Not well! Have you ever eaten something that did not agree with you? That is from your stomach contracting with both valves shut. There is lots of squeezing, yet no movement of food. This is called INDIGESTION! Many times, the valve at the top loses the battle, so where does the food go? You guessed it, back up the esophagus. We call that acid reflux or GERD—no matter what you call it, it’s not fun. Do not even think about taking those drugs for reflux. They decrease the acid even more, making what I am about to explain even worse. Eventually the valve at the bottom, which leads to the small intestine opens, dumping partially digested food that is not acidic enough. This has a devastating effect on your intestines over time, or more specifically your normal flora (healthy bacteria), because it needs an acidic environment. Normal flora begins to die, and bad bacteria and/ or yeast begins to take over. We should probably mention how the “good” bacteria got there in the first place. Well, they get there through breastfeeding and passing through the birth canal. What percentage of Americans do you suppose were breastfed for twelve or more months and passed through the birth canal to properly populate the gut with the right bacteria? I have read as low as 20%! This means that many of us are starting life with a deficiency. Now add in coffee, flour, sugar, cereals, rounds of antibiotics — It’s no wonder our guts can get so out of balance? Now, inside our intestines there should be millions of little hair-like fibers called villi which are home to trillions of healthy bacteria. These healthy bacteria should outnumber the cells of our body ten to one! Without the proper environment, these bacteria will die off. These bacteria are essential to health for many reasons: they digest food, produce B vitamins which give us energy, lower cholesterol, alkalize the body, stabilize blood sugar, and are part of our immune response. Have you ever wondered why there is a Starbucks on every corner? Or why there are shelves of energy drinks in the supermarket? Clearly, there is a nation-wide Energy issue! Without bacteria digesting food, partially digested food continues down our digestive tract and comes to the pancreas. The pancreas sees the situation, and must react. Normally, the pancreas secretes a bit of insulin—like a pump. But when it sees this undigested mess coming, it begins pumping harder and faster. This means even more insulin is dumped in the system. Not only will the pancreas wear out if it is forced to work harder than it should, but increased insulin in the body can cause insulin resistance; the first step to diabetes. Insulin also happens to be a powerful fat-storage hormone, so an imbalance in the gut can put our hormones in fat storage mode! Since this imbalance in the gut causes stress on the body, it secretes cortisol, another powerful fat storage hormone, and the stage is set. An imbalance in the gut starts causing blood sugar issues, weight gain, and inflammation. Would you believe me if I said that this is the good news? 801-447-1249 | ElevatedHealthUtah.com

We will get to the bad news soon. A person whose hormones are in fat storage mode could eat 1000 calories a day, exercise, and still lose little to no weight. That person will become frustrated, and wonder why what they are doing is not working like it did before. They may start to experience cravings. This happens when the healthy bacteria are replaced by yeast or candida. Yeast will cause you to crave what they eat; they love sugar, flour, grains, alcohol… anything processed, really. We beat ourselves up thinking, “Where is my willpower?” It is critical to understand that your willpower is not as strong as your physiology. If yeast is in the system, you will crave the sugar that yeast craves. We will go over Candida in a later discovery. But briefly, it is an overgrowth of yeast within the body that shows numerous symptoms, and makes weight loss practically impossible without treatment. The yeast will put up a fight. It will beg for the foods which you have denied it. If someone were starving you, you would fight back, right? However, beating Candida is a battle everyone can win! Next, the partially digested food travels downstream where it really begins to create problems. The body is trying to absorb nutrients, vitamins and minerals from food that is not completely digested. It is forced to leak food from the gut into the bloodstream. Now we have Leaky Gut Syndrome! Bigger pieces of food enter the bloodstream, and your body views these as foreign invaders. Your body will activate the immune system to attack the invaders. But when we look at closer, who is the immune system ultimately attacking? YOU. Autoimmune Disease When your immune system begins attacking your blood, we call it autoimmune disease. Here is an example of a few autoimmune diseases: Hashimoto’s, celiac disease (this is where the whole gluten-free rage comes from), rheumatoid, scleroderma, fibromyalgia, lupus, chronic fatigue, and so many more. Today, we have over 80 autoimmune diseases! In the 1950’s we had 8 or so autoimmune diseases. What if we just tried an inside out approach to healing the gut? Now, you could try popping handfuls of probiotics’ like everyone else, which will work temporarily, however, who wants a temporary fix? The gut must be healed first. If the gut is not healthy and all the villi aren’t intact, the “good guys” have no place to live. No amount of probiotics can fix this. What else can all this lead to? Well, if the immune system is constantly at a heightened state of alert—intolerances, like allergies, can result. How do we get gut imbalances in the first place? Most people think that Americans have the safest food (this includes some health professionals). This is far from the truth. Most of the food we consume is overcooked, over-refined, and full of chemicals that are toxic to our bodies. The average American eats 6-9 POUNDS of chemicals in their food each year! It has been proven in a study done by Dr. Weston A. Price that disease free populations tend to be those that eat fresh foods that are readily available in their surrounding environment. Disease-ridden populations tend to be those that eat primarily boxed, canned, refried, overcooked, or “dead” food.
American eats
6-9 lbs
of chemicals in their food each year!
Processed foods are extremely hard for our bodies to digest. They contain toxins, preservatives, and artificial colors or flavors. On the other hand, “live” and fresh foods contain live enzymes, which aid in digestion and help to break down food.

Processed foods are the reason for many diseases and illnesses. Years ago, you used to be able to feed the animals at the zoo. Animals started to get sick and die because of the toxins they were consuming from the junk people fed them. Now, there are signs that say, “Do not feed the animals!” Yet, we humans keep right on eating it! Toxins from the typical American diet greatly raise the risk of breast cancer, thyroid and pituitary dysfunction, cellular reproduction (which increases the risk of cancer), and developmental defects. Sugar is a huge problem in the American diet. It’s also hidden in food, as it goes by as many as 25 other names! White grape juice concentrate being one, I mean how bad can it be, it comes from a grape? PURE SUGAR! Sugar causes the release of insulin, a fat-storing hormone. It also suppresses growth hormones, which are fat burning hormones. Sugar compromises the immune system, and causes various deficiencies as well as many diseases. Here come the artificial sweeteners! If you want to lower your sugar intake—these are not the answer. Most artificial sweeteners break down as deadly acids within the body. Some harmful sweeteners include (but are not limited to): NutraSweet, Sweet ‘N’ Low, Splenda, Sugar Twin, and Sweet One. Not only do these synthetic sugars lie to our bodies about receiving Energy from sugar, but we end up craving sugar more! They also kill off the good bacteria. An example of a healthy dietary and all-natural sweetener would be Solution 4’s Fiber Sweetener, available at Elevated Health. Monosodium Glutamate, better known as MSG, is used to enhance the flavor of food and stimulate your appetite. It can cause many harmful side effects such as: headaches, muscle aches, and tingling of the body. MSG is in up to 40% of food we consume. Can you guess why? If your answer is so that businesses can sell more food, then you would be correct!
MSG is in up to
40%
of food we consume
Caffeine—found in coffee, soda, and many medications—is another harmful and commonly consumed toxin. It leaches essential minerals and potassium on its way out of the body. Caffeine often leads to B1 and thiamine deficiency. B1 is an essential vitamin for mental health and tranquility. Low amounts of thiamine can lead to nervous exhaustion and fatigue, loss of memory, loss of appetite, depression, constipation, and intense drowsiness. Caffeine has negative effects on the heart and circulatory system, and causes an increase in blood fats and cholesterol; which is associated with heart attacks and cardiovascular disease. Among those who drink one to five cups of coffee a day, a 60% increase in heart attacks is observed—and these are only a few of caffeine’s downfalls. Look, I’m not saying to never drink it again, but if you’ve drank coffee for years, you may need to give your body a break at least long enough to reboot the gut. There is ample research that links gut function to brain function. Your guts are your second brain! Therefore, if your guts are not functioning properly, neither is your brain. Dairy and Meat Dairy contains many hormones, antibiotics and pesticides, which increase inflammation within the body. Cow’s milk is meant for – you guessed it – a calf! Interestingly, if you fed a calf the processed milk we drink from the market, its health would quickly decline, and even kill the animal. Meat can also be full of toxins, hormones, and antibiotics. In fact, 80% of the antibiotics produced today are fed to animals! These foods contain high amounts of saturated fat, which contributes to various cardiovascular diseases. Be sure to eat meat sparingly, and when you do choose clean meat, go for organic and grass fed. 801-447-1249 | ElevatedHealthUtah.com

Water Most people do not drink enough water each day. Water is essential for our cells to function properly. Without proper amounts of water, toxins begin to build up in the digestive system. Since most degenerative diseases begin in the colon, proper water intake is necessary for optimum health. Typically ½ body weight in ounces is a good amount to shoot for. No, the water contained in soda does not count!!!! Enzymes Enzymes are specialized proteins that catalyze every action within the body. Enzymes are responsible for breaking down food once it is consumed, and they require vitamins in order to work properly. There are many signs that food is not being digested properly. Symptoms include: heartburn, gas, bloating, indigestion, and other digestive discomforts. We have enzymes in our saliva, which is why chewing your food properly is extremely important to the digestive process. The only other sources of these enzymes are fresh (live), unaltered foods and certain supplements. At Elevated Health, we like Solution 4’s Digestive Enzyme supplement. Once the digestive system is back on track and the correct foods are consumed, every function in the body is sure to follow. Doctors today estimate 80%+ of all diseases today are caused by a gut imbalance!. You have heard for years that “you are what you eat,” but the truth is – you are what you assimilate (absorb), and you can’t digest and assimilate without a healthy gut! Ultimately, the bacteria in your gut play a huge role in the way your metabolism—and the rest of your body— functions. Restoring your gut is the first and most effective step towards achieving sustained weight loss.
2. DETOXIFICATION Why is detoxifying the body important for weight loss and health? I will answer that question in a second, but first, we should back up so you can understand what you are dealing with. According to the EPA, the average American has somewhere between 400 to 800 toxins sitting in a fat cell at any given time. Where do they come from? Well, places like personal care products, shampoo, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, cleaning products—our food supply alone contains about 3000 toxins. In fact, there have been over 80,000 chemicals introduced to American households in the last 40 years alone! Amazingly enough, our bodies can eliminate about 50,000 of these toxins. The other 30,000 our bodies can’t eliminate, so it’s forced to store them in fat cells. The challenge? When we diet to remove fat from fat cells, we leave the toxins behind. As the fat cell shrinks, the toxins become even more concentrated. This is extremely unhealthy for the cell, so the body works to dilute the toxins. How does it do that? By increasing fat storage hormones to add fat back into the cell! The vicious cycle continues. At Elevated Health, our approach is different. Instead of trying to fight fat with drugs, we remove toxins from fat cells. We use modalities like: infrared sauna, whole-body vibration exercise with oxygen, and most importantly supplements with combinations of herbs. These herbs pull toxins out of our cells, and transport toxins out of the body so that the fat cell shrinks. The rebound effect can be avoided, and the body will recover. When the average person looks down at themselves and says, “Wow, I am overweight/fat,” what they are really saying in many cases is, “Wow, I have become toxic!” In fact cellulite is nothing more than a toxic body condition! Instead of trying to burn fat, we pull toxins out of the fat. The fat cell shrinks as toxins are eliminated. The best part? There is no rebound effect. The weight stays off!

DETOXIFY TO REMOVE CELLULITE Detoxification is the metabolic process by which the toxic qualities of a poison or toxin are eliminated by the body. In my opinion, maintaining an optimal long term body weight is nearly impossible without properly detoxifying the body. Therefore, detoxification is the foundation of all our programs at Elevated Health. Without proper detoxification permanent weight loss will not happen. Cellulite is simply an accumulation of toxins in the body. Toxins become trapped in the connective tissues of the body, resulting in uneven, “dimply” skin. Getting rid of cellulite is possible. Solution 4’s Cellulite Cleanse supplement can help to soften connective tissues and allow the toxins to release. When used in conjunction with a specifically designed body wrap, toxins within the cellulite will leave the body. Our body wraps utilize a cream that stimulates the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the toxin-draining system within our bodies. Along with weight loss, there are many other benefits to detoxifying the body. It increases energy, rejuvenates the body, has anti-aging effects, and helps to clean out mucus, toxins and waste material. It also restores normal elimination and purifies the kidneys, liver, and bloodstream. It achieves mental clarity, reduces dependence on drugs, and helps restore the peristaltic action of the colon. How does a person know when they need a detoxification? Let’s move on to our next weight loss discovery.
3. HORMONES Are your hormones in fat-storage mode or fat-burning mode? Hormones are the chemical messengers in our body. They enter the bloodstream and go to their designated organ, prompting it to work when we need it to. Hormones govern every action of the body. Some common symptoms of hormone imbalance are: weight gain, mood swings, depression, excessive drug use, circles under the eyes, stiff joints, eye irritation, puffiness of the eyes, constipation, cold extremities, breast tenderness, muscle aches, runny nose, sore throat, headaches, frustration, fatty breasts, PMS, endometriosis, osteoporosis, low libido, poor sleep quality, anxiety, miscarriage or infertility, feelings of panic, irritability, sudden anger, leg cramps, bruising easily, fibroids, dry skin, insomnia, bloating, inflammation, and slow digestion. If experiencing these symptoms, it is important to get tested for Candida as well. This is because Candida often replicates symptoms of hormone imbalance. The hormones cannot be re-balanced until Candida is eradicated from the body. It is also critical to understand that hormones determine whether you are gaining weight or losing weight. It is not nearly as simple as calories in - calories out, especially if your hormones are in fat-storage mode. Gut imbalances, environmental toxins, stress from simple daily activities—these can all cause an increase in fat storage hormones. People often come into our office who have cut daily food intake to 1000 calories (or less) of protein and vegetables, exercising daily, and not only are they not losing weight, but gaining weight! Understanding how hormones work will give you a huge advantage on your weight loss journey. Let’s cover each of these in some detail.

Thyroid hormones Thyroid challenges are more common than ever. Interestingly, many people come to Elevated Health with the symptoms of a thyroid hormone problem, but the lab work comes back normal. Environmental toxins may be playing a big role here. These days many people are deficient in iodine. Iodine is a necessary nutrient your thyroid uses to produce thyroxine; the hormone that runs your metabolism and helps maintain ideal body weight. If we do not consume enough iodine, our bodies will improvise and use other toxins like fluoride, chlorine or bromine in its place! So, while bloodwork may show normal thyroxine levels, if it is made of a toxic substance like chlorine or bromine, it is non-functional. Hence, you have the symptoms of a low thyroid. Unfortunately, a person in this situation was probably given thyroid hormones in the form of medications. This ultimately causes the thyroid to shut down; another reason why detoxing is essential to balance hormones. Stress Hormones We each have two adrenal glands that sit on top of our kidneys. They control the release of stress hormones and will react according to what stressful challenges you face that day. When you are overwhelmed, anxiety and stress hormones are released. When you are stressed, the stomach muscles contract and decrease blood flow to the organs of digestion, effectively slowing down or completely stopping the digestive process. Stress hormones can greatly affect how your body uses fuel—whether it burns it for energy or stores it as fat. If you have not eliminated the excess amounts of Cortisol in the blood by exercise, you will crave high fat and high carbohydrate foods. When these foods are eaten, the body releases a cascade of rewarding brain chemicals, which can cause an addictive relationship with those foods. It is important to stop this cycle. Insulin We’ve already talked about how gut health is critical to any successful weight loss program. Everything from antibiotic use, processed food, flour, and sugar can upset the normal flora in the gut which causes bad bacteria and yeast to proliferate. Unfortunately, the bad bacteria and yeast do not digest food, so the pancreas is forced to help. When there is too much bad bacteria and yeast, the pancreas has to pump out more and more insulin (Remember, insulin is a powerful fat-storage hormone!). When it gets bad enough, people will start feeling symptoms like: bloating, gas, indigestion, constipation, and reflux. Too much insulin in the body can lead to insulin resistance, which will eventually lead to diabetes and weight gain. Hormone Replacement & Supplements Years ago, the Food and Drug Administration approved a new label for Hormone Replacement Therapy products. These labels state the increased risk of heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and breast cancer in correlation with these products. In my opinion, the risks outweigh the benefits, and so natural measures should be taken opposed to hormone replacement therapy products whenever possible! Not only will you be able to reach these goals through adopting a healthy way of living, you will also be able to maintain weight loss and hormonal balance. The Symptom Assessment at Elevated Health will determine your level of hormonal imbalance. There are several different supplements available through Elevated Health that can aid in hormone balance. We will go over those supplements briefly, but they will be explained later, in more detail.

Solution 4’s Hormone Balance is specifically designed to be the most complete hormone stabilizer for both men and women. It utilizes natural plant sterols that give the body what it needs to produce the appropriate levels of hormones. Solution 4’s Wild Yam Cream can greatly aid in giving the body progesterone, which is key in producing both estrogen and testosterone. It also includes the highest levels of DHEA on the market, which is known as the “mother hormone.” Solution 4’s DHEA provides that mother hormone, called the mother hormone because it can readily be converted into any other hormone when needed. High levels of DHEA are directly related to substantial, healthy weight loss because DHEA is a fat burning hormone. DHEA has also been labeled the single most effective component in antiaging. DHEA levels naturally begin to decrease at the age of 40, which is usually when the onset of age-related diseases occurs. Lastly, we come to Solution 4’s Thyroid/Adrenal Support. Hypothyroidism is often caused by lack of iodine in the diet. Solution 4’s Thyroid/Adrenal Support utilizes natural, iodine-rich sources as well as adaptive herbs to support the health of your thyroid and adrenals.
4. SYMPTOMS Picture this…What if you were driving down the road and the change oil light came on? Would you ignore it? Maybe. If you do decide to ignore it, you know what will ultimately happen. The oil will dry up, the car engine will seize and die….However, now you have a decision to make. You could ignore it. You could cover the light with some tape or a bandaid. Or you could pull out the fuse connected to that light or you could even cut the wire to the warning light and force it to go off. However, we all know that wouldn’t solve the problem!.....Well…. It’s really the same concept with our bodies. People often ignore the symptoms, or medicate them, and do not make an effort to find out what is going on inside of their body and correct it. Symptoms are your bodies warning sign that something is wrong and something needs to change. There are many signs or symptoms of a body in need of detoxification. Some of these include: • Mood swings, anxiety, depression and stress
• Yeast infections
• Weight problems
• Low resistance to illness and infection
• Mental “fuzziness”
• Life threatening and degenerative illness
• Fatigue, lack of energy
• Bowel irregularity
• Insomnia
• Painful inflammation (stiff sore joints)
• Headaches
• Diabetes or hypoglycemia, high blood pressure
• Cravings—strong desires for sugar/beer/bread
• Skin disorders, acne, eczema, psoriasis
• Digestive problems—constipation, reflux, bloating
• Weakness, shakiness
• Allergies, hay fever, asthma
• Poor muscle tone, muscle soreness or spasm
•A ddictions—high alcohol consumption, high caffeine consumption, smoking
•M ale or female problems—PMS, irritability, hot flashes, infertility, low libido, prostate issues, impotence

Many of these symptoms are also possible signs of Candida. Candida, as we mentioned before, is an overgrowth of yeast within the body. It can infiltrate the brain and every other tissue in the body. Candida and Fibromyalgia share similar symptoms. However, fibromyalgia causes certain “hot spots” to flare up when touched. Candida cells can live on every surface within the body. The body can normally keep yeast under control, but when our immune systems become compromised (from, for example, the poor diet commonly practiced in America), the yeast flourishes. There are many factors that can lead to Candida. Some of these include: steroid drugs such as cortisone, birth control pills, and the use of antibiotics. The problem with antibiotics is that they are indiscriminate—they will kill both the bad and good bacteria in the body. Antibiotics can reduce the number of beneficial bacteria that normally help to keep the yeast under control. Poor diet is another cause of Candida–eating too much of the foods that cause Candida to grow. These foods include: flour, any form of sugar, alcohol, most processed food, and artificial sweeteners. Candida can cause local yeast infections, such as thrush (white yeast on the tongue), yeast or urinary tract infections, prostate or rectal itching, rashes or hives on the skin, and infections within the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms and signs of Candida include, but are not limited to: •A llergic reactions: congested nose, hives, dizziness, weakness, cramps, arthritis, depression, increased sensitivity to chemicals, skin infections, rash, hives
• Musculoskeletal problems: muscle weakness, night leg pain, muscle stiffness, slow reaction time, poor coordination, poor motor skills
•G astrointestinal problems: gas, bloating, abdominal • Central nervous system problems: headaches, sinus pain, ulcers, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, spastic headaches, tension headaches, migraines, rapid colon blood sugar changes •R espiratory problems: frequent sore throat, mouth or canker sores, sinus infections, bronchial infections, chronic cough, asthma
• Genital/urinary problems: yeast infections, itching or burning of vagina or prostate, urinary burning, frequent urination, PMS
•C ardiovascular problems: palpitations and rapid pulse (Candida does not directly cause this, but affects the hormones that govern the cardiovascular system)
5. STRESS Stress (physical, mental, or emotional stress) can increase fat storage hormones by raising cortisol levels. While we cannot change all the stressors, many people do not realize that often, our bodies are producing extra cortisol because of a stressful event that happened as far back as childhood. You see, the brain wires to a stressful pattern until you break that pattern. At Elevated Health, we use a special technology to help rebalance the brain and lower cortisol levels, naturally. It is called Brain Tap, and it can provide some pretty amazing results. It helps the brain eliminate harmful, stressful patterns. Stress is an inevitable part of life, but there are ways your body can cope with stress without detrimental effects to your health. When both physical and mental stress occur, the body puts the adrenal glands into overdrive. They then release adrenaline and cortisol. The release of adrenaline decreases GLA (gamma linolenic acids), which affects the production of eicosanoids (hormones controlling the release of fat). Adrenaline also causes the body to retain fluid, which can add to weight gain.

Here are some signs that can indicate ADRENAL EXHAUSTION: • Inability to tolerate much exercise
• The need for caffeine
• Feeling worse after exercising
• Sweet and salt cravings
• Water retention
• Ability to relieve depression by eating.
• Symptoms of low blood sugar Cortisol has many negative effects on the body. Cortisol raises blood sugar, which releases insulin. Elevated levels of insulin cause the production of bad eicosanoids, which slows the process of fat burning. Cortisol can also increase the body’s tendency to burn protein instead of fat. Cortisol tells the body to make more Neuropeptide Y (NPY), which is what the body sends to the hypothalamus when it senses that the body needs energy. The NPY comes with a message of, “eat more carbohydrates.” If this signal is ignored, the hypothalamus releases Galanin, the hormone that regulates your desire for fat and carbohydrates. Cortisol levels increase when a person is anticipating a stressful event—when concentrating too hard on a deadline, when experiencing an upsetting situation, or when strenuously exercising for more than 40 minutes. There are several components that can help the body cope with stress more effectively, such as: magnesium, calcium, potassium, zinc, probiotics, vitamin c, and vitamin b complexes. There are also several plants that are labeled as “adaptogens” that help the body handle stress more efficiently. Some of these include: Kava Kava, St. John’s Wort, Ginseng, Club Moss, and different mushrooms such as chaga. Making sure you have adequate nutrients is the best thing you can do to handle stress. Deep breathing techniques, and Self-Mastery Technology available at Elevated Health (explained in the Ninth Weight Loss Discovery) are also excellent tools for handling stress.
6. BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS The food we consume eventually turns into sugar. The key is figuring out which foods take longer to turn into sugar. This is the idea that the glycemic index was formulated around. It is important to know, though, that just because a food has a low glycemic index, does not necessarily mean that it will support long-term health or weight loss. Disorders that can stem from high sugar intake are diabetes, hypoglycemia, syndrome X, insulin resistance, and unexplained weight gain. According to the American Diabetes Association, 30.3 million American adults suffer from diabetes. Of that 30.3 million, 23.1 million were diagnosed and around 7.2 million were undiagnosed. 25% of the population is insulin resistant. The Symptom Assessment utilized by Elevated Health can identify if you are one of the many who are pre-diabetic. Diabetes was number six in the leading causes of death in America, and many are likely to be unreported with diabetes as the cause of death. It is said that someone with diabetes has two times the chance of early death than someone without diabetes.

Of those with diabetes, heart attack and stroke account for about 65% of deaths. The risk of stroke is two to four times higher when diabetes is prevalent. About 73% of adults with diabetes have high blood pressure. Diabetes is the leading cause for new blindness within the United States. Diabetes is also the leading cause of kidney failure, accounting for 44% of new cases in 2002. About 60-70% of people with diabetes have mild to severe forms of nervous system damage, causing pain in the feet and hands, poor digestion, and other various nerve problems. More than 60% of non-traumatic lower limb amputations occur in those with diabetes. The glycemic index ranges from 0-100. High foods are 71-100, these include: honey, glucose syrup, soda, fruit juices, carrot juice, Gatorade, carrots, parsnips, baked potatoes, white bread and white rice. Medium foods range from 56-70. These are best eaten in moderation, in balance with fiber, protein, and good fats. These medium foods include: oranges, brown rice, whole grain bread, green beans, beets, sweet potatoes, and sweet peas. Low foods range from 21-55. It is best to eat low and ultra-low glycemic index foods. Low foods include: cherries, plums, lentils, kidney beans, and lima beans. Ultra-low foods range from 0-20. These foods include: nuts, almonds, peanuts, roasted soy, some berries, tomatoes, turkey, chicken, fish, eggs, and tofu. Most vegetables have a low or ultra-low glycemic index. Solution 4’s Nutritional Shake is a great source of low glycemic food.
7. ACCOUNTABILITY If you could have lost the weight on your own, you would have! It makes a world of difference when there is a doctor and full support staff checking on you and waiting for a report from you. How many children would read a book that was assigned if they knew there would be no test or grade given? Not many. It is the same idea with any obstacle in life; especially weight loss. At first, it can be difficult to resist the toxic foods that are so easy to grab. However, soon into the Cleanse at Elevated Health you will realize how amazing you feel! The weight will drop because your body’s functions will be working more efficiently. You will have more energy, you will feel restored after a great night’s sleep and your sex drive will increase, along with a myriad of other benefits. It is fascinating what accountability can do for a person attempting to reach a goal they have tried to reach for years. If you are sick and tired of being overweight, out of energy, and suffering from numerous other symptoms— accountability might be exactly what you need.
8. HOW TO GET IN – AND STAY IN – FAT-BURNING MODE Here are the steps you must take to keep your body in fat-burning mode. Eat healthy, whole foods—mostly plants—and eat them consistently. This keeps the metabolism burning. It also causes cortisol to release, which uses up DHEA. DHEA is a fat burning hormone. A healthy snack should be eaten about every two hours.

Avoid refined sugars and refined grains. These foods trigger the fat making and storing hormone, insulin. When insulin levels increase, fat is blocked from being used as fuel. Although both have significant problems, high fructose corn syrup has been shown to cause even more weight gain than refined white sugar. Control emotional eating. Experts claim that 75% of overeating is caused by emotions. Comfort food releases “feel good” chemicals, and can cause an addictive relationship. Boredom, loneliness, stress, and low self-esteem are just a few of the emotions that can cause overeating. Overeating causes the adrenals to release cortisol, and the cortisol uses up DHEA. Overeating increases fat storing hormones, insulin and blood sugar levels. To break the patterns of emotional eating, you can develop alternative activities, such as: walking, jogging, reading, taking a warm bath, breathing exercising, playing cards, doing housework, doing yard work, or any other pleasurable activity to reprogram your cravings for healthier options. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol causes an increase in insulin, weight gain, and liver damage. Alcohol stresses the body, and reduces fat-burning by a third. Alcohol inhibits lipid oxidation, which means it is harder to burn fat. Avoid consumption of caffeine. Caffeine can cause you to eat more throughout the day. To decrease overeating, caffeine intake should be decreased. Caffeine raises heart rate, blood sugar, and stimulates the body to increase body fat storage, which makes you crave sweet, high-calorie foods. In addition to all of this, caffeine can cause the release of cortisol. With this comes a lowered immune system, slow thinking, blood sugar imbalances, increase in fat making hormones, increase in blood pressure, weakened muscle and bones, and increased fat in the stomach area. Exercise - anaerobic and aerobic. First, please understand if your body is out of balance, certain exercise will likely do you more harm than good. It will just be another stressor to your body causing a release of cortisol- a powerful fat storage hormone! Talk about self sabotage! When your’re ready, we’ll customize the perfect plan for you, in fact with our exercise plans you can burn 400% more fat in less time! Control your stress. All types of stress can cause weight gain. When cortisol is released for prolonged periods of time (chronic stress) it can cause weight gain and other problems such as: a slow metabolism, the need for salty, sugary, fatty foods, elevated blood sugar levels, mood swings, and fatigue. We have Solution 4 blends that can help you deal with stress. Get adequate sleep. Studies have shown that too little and even too much sleep can cause weight gain. A great tip is to get to bed between 9 and 10 PM. By going to bed earlier, you can reach REM sleep by midnight, when growth hormone is released for up to two hours. Growth hormone is a fat burning hormone. Getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night is critical. Avoid eating or drinking no later than 6 pm to ensure a solid night’s sleep. Also avoid the bright blue light of your phone, television, and bright light bulbs.

Get the appropriate levels of protein. There are a lot of diets that recommend high protein to help you lose weight. How much do we really need? What foods contain it? The right levels and source of protein can trigger fat burning levels. The more active you are, the more protein you will need. Protein is made up from 20 building blocks called amino acids. The body makes 11 of these amino acids, and the other 9 must be supplemented. There are two different types of protein–complete and incomplete. Animal and soy protein sources are complete with all nine amino acids contained within. Fruits and vegetables are incomplete, often missing one or two amino acids. By eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, a person can get all nine amino acids without going to an animal or soy source. Animal proteins tend to be full of steroids, hormones, antibiotics, and bad fat. Proteins are the essential building blocks for cellular reproduction. Hair, bones, skin, and organs all need protein. Solution 4’s Nutritional Shake, available at Elevated Health, is an excellent source of whey protein; and is also lactose and dairy free (the casein and lactose have been removed). Did we mention they also taste great?
9. YOUR MINDSET Your thoughts have much more to do with weight loss than you may realize. We are discovering more about how our thoughts impact our immediate surroundings and the universe around us. It is for this same reason you need to keep positive thoughts towards your weight loss goals. If you keep thinking you’re going to fail, you will. If you know you’re going to succeed, you will. There is a breakthrough technology that can change the way you think. It is referred to as Self-Mastery Technology or SMT. It utilizes light and sound technology to bring a person to a brainwave state of deep relaxation or sleep, and then re-teaches good health habits. Light technology utilizes a phenomenon known as “the flicker effect,” which is a state of consciousness reached when certain speeds of flickering lights are witnessed. The Self-Mastery Technology uses glasses with LED lights flickering at certain speeds to achieve the desired states of consciousness. Sound technology utilizes “binaural beats,” which are two different beats of the same tone but different pitch. One is introduced to the left ear, and one to the right. The two beats meeting in the brain creates a “beating” type rhythm, that your brain syncs up with. Depending on which state is trying to be achieved, different binaural beats will be used, and the brain will go to that desired state when listening. Elevated Health provides SMT recordings specific to the goal you are trying to achieve. SMT sessions are implemented into each weight loss program.
10. SUPPLEMENTS We should have put this as number 1 in our list, as sustained weight loss without proper supplementation is virtually impossible. People should be able to receive their nutrients through the healthy foods they consume. Unfortunately many of the fruits and vegetables grown today have inadequate nutrients. The nutrients a plant contains come from the soil it grows in. Since food is produced in such massive quantities, the soil does not have time to replenish itself.

Luckily, we have access to a plethora of supplements and vitamins. These nutrients need to be supplemented for as long as you want to stay healthy. Unfortunately, all supplements are not created equally. In fact, in the United States, the Food and Drug Administration allows up to 50% filler in supplements—which could be anything from cellulose to the floor sweepings. At Elevated Health, we use a line of supplementation formulated by Dr. Linda Nelson, a naturopath who has been helping patients for over 30 years. She did most of her initial studying in Asia—specifically Japan. The supplementation she formulates is packed to Japanese standards, with less than 1% filler guaranteed. They do not use any plants that have been contaminated, and quarantine them two different times before it finally goes into the vegetable capsule. The supplements work synergistically, meaning you can take any combination of them together without negative side effects. Here are some of the Solution 4 supplementation available through Elevated Health: Antioxidant: Free radicals are a harmful by-product of calories being turned into energy. Free radicals can damage our cells, causing premature aging, ( wrinkles, vericose veins etc) but antioxidants work to block that damage. Solution 4’s Antioxidant utilizes astaxanthin, an extremely powerful antioxidant, along with other plants that contain antioxidants and cleansing properties. Appetite Appeaser: This blend of herbs has been put together to balance blood sugar levels, which reduces hunger pangs. It raises natural energy levels in the body, and helps to reduce nervous tension. It also promotes cleansing of the body and metabolism of dangerous fats that otherwise adhere to the heart and other vital organs. Body Purifier: This supplement aids in cleansing the body and bloodstream of toxins, as well as eliminating mucus/congestion, removing harmful food additives and environmental chemicals, cleansing the lymphatic system, and destroying parasites in the digestive system. It is important to note here that about 70% of Americans have parasites in their digestive tract. Ever travel abroad? This could be you... Cellulite Cleanse: This supplement contains a blend of herbs that work together as a mild diuretic to soften and break down cellulite, which are toxins that become trapped in the connective tissues of the body. Cellulite Cleanse also supports the body’s natural cleansing systems to aid in the elimination of toxins. This supplement can be used in conjunction with detoxification of the body and detoxifying body wraps (available at Elevated Health) to maximize the reduction of cellulite. DHEA: DHEA has been found to be the single most effective component of anti-aging. New studies are showing that it is a breakthrough component of weight loss as well. DHEA levels in the body start to dwindle at the age of 40, bringing in the onset of age-related issues. DHEA levels also begin to dwindle when a person suffers from an autoimmune disorder, such as Candida. These issues can be greatly reduced by supplying your body with adequate levels of DHEA in supplement form. Digestive Enzyme Blend: Digestive enzymes are what break down our food after consumption. This blend utilizes natural digestive enzymes, similar to those found in raw food. This supplement is a preventative tool, assisting digestion and alleviating gastrointestinal discomfort, and is especially helpful for acid reflux. 801-447-1249 | ElevatedHealthUtah.com
17
Evening Primrose Oil: This supplement provides essential Omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are converted by the body into a hormone-like substance called prostaglandin. Prostaglandin works to positively affect every organ of the body, especially the heart, skin, and immune system. With these Omega-6 fatty acids in the diet, the body has overall better health and is able to properly fight disease. Fiber Blend: This blend utilizes both soluble and insoluble fiber. The soluble fiber works to ease digestion, while the insoluble fiber works as a sponge in cleaning out the digestive system. One added benefit of fiber is that it can make you feel fuller without the added calories. This supplement helps you to overcome constipation, stimulate the action of the intestines, and lowers cholesterol levels in the body. Flaxseed Oil: The flax seed provides Omega-3 fatty acids, which are extremely beneficial to the heart, and can help protect against heart disease and high blood pressure. Studies have also shown that flax seed can help slow the division of tumorous cells, and is also an excellent preventative measure to take against breast, colon, prostate, and skin cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids also reduce inflammation. Herbal Stress Relief: This blend utilizes all natural herbs that are renowned for their tranquil effects. It offers natural relief from stress, and can help a person to relax. Valerian root, Passionflower, Hops flowers, and chamomile flowers are four of the herbs utilized in this blend. Hormone Balance: This supplement is designed to be the most complete hormone stabilizer for both men and women. This supplement is a natural alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy, which has many downsides and risks. This natural blend simply gives your body the substances that it needs to create its own hormone balance. Intestinal Cleanser: This supplement is the second component of the complete detoxification kit. This herbal tonic works to remove built up encrustation in the colon. It is also a safe laxative—it increases circulation to the bowels, lubricates the intestines, relieves gas from the intestines, expels works from the intestines, improves the function of both the stomach and liver, and is a powerful anti-inflammatory for joints and the gastrointestinal tract. Joint and Muscle Relief: This supplement works to re-establish the chemical balance in the body’s tissues as well as increasing joint lubrication. It can relieve pain and inflammation around the joints. It offers relief from arthritis, stiffness of the joints, swollen joints, as well as muscular aches and pains. Liquid Calcium: Many calcium supplements are not easily absorbed in the body. Solution 4 has formulated this calcium into a soluble liquid gel form, which is much easier for the body to absorb. Calcium provides strength to teeth and bones as well as promoting cellular function—as calcium is in every cell in the body. It works together with magnesium to support cardiovascular health. This supplement provides the essential 1000-2000 mg of calcium that we need each day, and is free from yeast, corn, wheat, milk, sugar, starch, preservatives, soy, and artificial colors.

Multivitamin/Multimineral: This is the perfect combination of vitamins and minerals needed daily. The difference in this supplement from others is the chelation—the process by which mineral substances are changed into their digestible form. Many people take a multivitamin daily, though their body rarely absorbs the nutrients from it. Probiotic Blend: This is a blend of friendly microbes that help control bad bacteria and yeast. Many things we do kill off these good microbes, including taking antibiotics. This blend helps to maintain a healthy immune system, healthy intestinal activity, and healthy skin. This formula also helps to stop bad breath, gas, and bloating. Salmon Oil: Salmon Oil provides essential Omega-3 fatty acids. The difference from salmon oil and flaxseed oil is that salmon oil provides three different fatty acids, while flaxseed oil only provides one. Typically, a healthy liver can convert this one fatty acid from flaxseed into the other two. In salmon oil, the salmon has already done this process for us in its own liver. Salmon oil provides the same benefits that flaxseed oil does, but is typically recommended for anyone with liver damage. Thyroid/Adrenal Support: This blend is designed to support the health of both the thyroid and adrenals. As described in a previous chapter, proper function of these glands are essential for weight loss and general well-being. Wild Yam Cream: This is a transdermal cream formulated with all natural ingredients to help maintain a balance of estrogen and testosterone within the body. This offers many plant precursors that give the body what it needs to create its own balanced environment of estrogen and testosterone. It can help to relieve night sweats, hot flashes, and menopausal symptoms. Vitamin D: This supplement offers an easily absorbed form of Vitamin D in liquid-gel form. Vitamin D offers many benefits such as the strengthening of bones, lowering the risk of disease and infection, and boosting the immune system. Nutritional Shake: This delicious shake offers daily nutrients and is a perfectly balanced form of protein that makes it the ideal “on the-go meal. It tastes great, and comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and orange cream. It is an excellent way to give children the nutrients they need without making them swallow a pill. It is lactose, gluten, and soy free. It is also yeast and sugar free (with an all-natural sugar substitute) which makes it the perfect snack for a person trying to eradicate Candida from their body.
