COVER FEATURE & INTERVIEW WITH KIM SOBCZAK

Kim Sobczak is a Professional Model, Dancer, and Esthetician based in Arizona. We had the honor of interviewing her and learning about her journey.

INDULGE: Who or what inspired you to pursue such a competitive career as a model?

KIM: I started modeling at the ripe age of 18. I started going to raves at age 15 and through that experience I met a photographer in the Sex Industry. I realized at 18 I was ready to explore my exhibitionist side. So, at 18 I modeled for a rave porn inspired website. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t part money motivated, but more so I was rebelling and navigating life as a free spirit. Breaking through the norms of society. I never really did fit in. I was always different and stood out whether that was good or bad. I started as an exotic dancer at 18 and the photography and dancing just intertwined. I met a lot of photographers through the strip club scene.

INDULGE: Can you share some highlights from your boudoir modeling career and any memorable experiences you’ve had?

KIM: I’ve worked with quite a few photographers back then and I have a lot of photos from those experiences. I think it’s cool to be able to look back on my younger years and really appreciate my beauty then in a way I didn’t at the time.

I think being confident in your shoots is important because it shows up in your pictures. It shows up through your eyes.

I love to seduce. I love to tease. I transfer that into my photos and tease the camera lens.

INDULGE: How do you approach posing and expressing emotions in your boudoir shoots to create a comfortable and intimate atmosphere?

KIM: Feeling sexy while you’re being photographed sometimes can be hard. You have to almost get lost in the experience. Forget about what you know and immerse yourself in the moment. I had to get comfortable at a young age being naked on a stage in front of strangers, but one thing I was always good at was the art of seduction. I love to seduce. I love to tease. I transfer that into my photos and tease the camera lens. Posing and knowing my body angles was learned through the art of dancing.

INDULGE: Modeling often involves working with diverse teams of photographers, makeup artists, and stylists. How do you collaborate and communicate effectively to bring a vision to life?

KIM: Personally, I have never used stylists. I was passionate about makeup and modeling at a young age and so that came to me naturally. So I’ve always used my own talents and skills in that regard.

INDULGE: What challenges have you encountered in the modeling industry, and how did you overcome them?

KIM: Challenges through this industry is definitely judgment from people. Whether that’s loved ones, friends or strangers. Everyone is always going to have an opinion of your life. It’s important to not take those opinions to heart. At this point in my life I know who I am and I don’t identify with my careers. I’ve overcome so much in my life I cherish all the details, good or bad. They have molded and evolved my existence.

INDULGE: How do you maintain a professional boundary during intimate photo sessions, ensuring a respectful working environment?

KIM: Boundaries are definitely important and if I’m feeling uncomfortable with someone or something I will just speak up and say it.

INDULGE: Have you worked with different photographers, and if so, how do you adapt to their unique shooting styles and preferences?

KIM: Every photographer is unique and different and you don’t always vibe with everyone. You have to zen out in your comfort zone when you find it. Sometimes it takes a little time to ease in and shake off the awkwardness of being in front of a camera.

INDULGE: Can you discuss the importance of body positivity and self-confidence in boudoir modeling, both for yourself and the clients you work with?

KIM: Body positivity is crucial to taking good photos. It’s going to shine through. Of course, a great photographer is going to bring it out more. I’ve worked with certain photographers that brought out a softness I never knew I had in me with my image.

INDULGE: How do you handle requests for specific poses or styles that you may not be comfortable with, and how do you communicate your boundaries effectively?

KIM: I’m Confident in my body now more than ever. Through the gym I’ve learned to change what I didn’t like and love myself even if I couldn’t change it. Of course I’m still critical at times, but I feel that’s part of human existence.

I’m pretty open minded at my age and life experience. I’ll speak up if something doesn’t sit right with me, but typically I will try anything 3 times. (Lol)

INDULGE: In your opinion, what makes boudoir photography truly captivating, and how do you contribute to achieving that as a model?

KIM: I think the female form is beautiful. Graceful. It’s Art. I’ve always loved watching other women dance. I always joke and say half the reason I’m a stripper is just to watch! I think women just know their bodies. They have more body awareness and sensuality. I love being sensual. I think nude photography requires vulnerability and that in itself is beautiful and unique. For someone to truly embrace their sexuality is raw. I love deep, real experiences.

INDULGE: How do you stay updated on industry trends and continuously improve your skills as a model?

KIM: Coming back to me being a dancer, I am surrounded by many different women. KIM: Also, many women who also do boudoir photography. So, being around that helps me see what’s trending. But, I pay attention mostly to what is flattering most on my body. Of course, social media always helps.

INDULGE: Can you share any advice for aspiring models looking to establish themselves in the industry?

KIM: I think anyone who is curious about getting into the industry has to be mentally prepared for potential outcomes. Not everyone is going to see eye-to-eye with you. You have to be ok with not being accepted. With being judged by loved ones. With criticism and let’s face it, the internet is full of bullies these days. You just have to know your worth and not take anyone’s opinions of your life to heart. At the end of the day, people see from their own life experiences and realities. As long as you know who you are, none of that matters.

INDULGE: As a professional model, how do you utilize social media and other platforms to enhance your visibility and connect with your audience?

KIM: As much as I dislike the fakeness and superficiality of social media, it’s necessary to stay relevant. If you want to be seen this is the new way of the world to do so. I use Instagram, Facebook, Fetlife, Snapchat and sprinkles of Reddit or Twitter (X.com) to capture attention. I’m no celebrity. I value authenticity. It’s just part of the world these days, so if you want to make it with this scene, you have to go with the flow of it.

INDULGE: How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance while pursuing a career that demands a hectic schedule?

KIM: To maintain a healthy balance in life I have to make sure I’m giving myself downtime. I work 2 jobs, operate an OnlyFans, go to the gym 4/5 days a week and also started dating. I practice a lot of self care and wellness rituals. Cold plunge daily, journaling, lifting, music, grounding, taking care of my wellness through healthy nutrition, and meditation are all part of my routine.

INDULGE: What does a typical day in your week look like?

KIM: A typical day consists of me waking up at 6 am, gathering my daily supplements, celery juicing and grounding naked while saying some positive affirmations in the morning sunshine. I then cold plunge for 5 mins, shower and get ready to hit the gym before my esthetician job, which is men’s waxing. After work I love to relax with my kitty or go on a date and enjoy that persons company.

The weekends, I dance and that is a bit more hectic staying up until 3 am. It’s definitely a balance I’ve created between the Yin and Yang.

INDULGE: A little off subject… but I feel that music can often play a big role in our lives. What 5 albums or artists have made you who you are today?

KIM: Music has been a big part of my life from starting raves at 15 to always being around music as a dancer. Some favorite artists are Zhu, hippie sabotage, TOOL, Deftones, and anything that I can feel deeply. Moving and dancing helps me feel free and let go of worry. It’s been healing for my life.

INDULGE: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?

KIM: I’m also pursuing a side project through selling my photography online. I have a client helping with the website building. I’ve sold about 10 prints of photos I’ve personally taken, of my erotic art. Working on that project was so passion driven and healing in my journey, to be able to sell it to people who have the same vision as me, is a dream. When it’s finally done I’ll have the link to buy my artwork on my instagram and other platforms.

INDULGE: Kim, thank you so much for sitting down with us!
