SUSHI POP-UP RESTAURANT Year: Spring 2019 Professor: Juan Roldan

6

A Sushi Pop-up Restaurant located in the ground floor of the Mirdif City Centre in Dubai. The project is inspired from the Japanese curtain called ‘Noren’; fabrics that genearlly act as partitions in rooms. In this space, these fabrics are emphasized with a noren installation, with its heavy usage in the entrance, that later gets elevated in the dining area to create a light atmosphere. The dining area features concave booths and a sliding table that is part of the kitchen counter, to provide a private dining experience.

S33 CHAIR / BOOK CONTAINER HYBRID Year: Fall 2018 Professor: Maria Isabel Oliver

12

After the analysis and understanding of the formal aspects, material components, and assembly pieces of the chair, S33, by Mart Stam, a ‘book container’ is developed, that stores and displays around 50 books.

18

The project comprises of a gallery space containing exhibition and work space, reading area, office, bathroom, kitchenette and stair. The space showcases a varying density of metal tubes that are derived from the horizontal and vertical beams and pipes present in the existing space. A system of grid is generated using the extension of the module created from the S33 Chair, which act as both, platforms for exhibiting three-dimensional peices and as book containers. The idea of having primary materials such as plastic sheets and metal tubes, like the corrugated and concrete walls in the exisiting space is enhanced.

The project is located in the Sharjah Art Foundation. The brief was to provide a space for an artist, for instance, Jean Michel Basquiat, a highly admired American painter chosen here, to work, rest and exhibit in the gallery within the space. Public space that features the exhibition and cafe embraces double height, whereas, the private space that houses the artist’s studio is given a standard room height. The difference in height allows for the entry of skylight. The courtyard features the contemplation space which is bounded by vertical louvres that play with the transparency/privacy of this semi-public space. The exhibition space accomodates the artist’s masterpieces on the art rack pull out storage panels.

ACCOR HOTELS INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION DESIGN SUITE SO / CLUB Year: 2018 Mentor: Maria Isabel Oliver

38

The brief of the competition was to design a Junior Suite for the Sofitel Hotels that centers around a world-famous fashion designer in order to create a space that reflects the designer’s work. Michael Cinco, a Filipino fashion designer based in Dubai, is world renowned for his exquisite couture gowns. With his intricate craftsmanship and detailed juxtapositions of fabric and Swarovski crystals, Cinco has created a name for himself in the world of luxury fashion. Cinco describes his style as feminine, romantic, with a dream-like flair to it, with clothes that simply ooze luxury and timelessness. 39

CASE STUDY: BAKER D. CHIRICO Designed by March Studio Year: Fall 2018 Professor: Maria Isabel Oliver

48

The analysis of the interior space of the bakery, Baker D. Chirico, located in Carlton, Australia is done through the means of a conceptual exploded axonometry. Moreover, a diagram that explains the use of vertical and horizontal elements in the space, such as the plywood shelving unit depicts the concept of linearity in the narrow space, as revealed in the floor plan.

ORIGINAL CHAIR

1/6 SCALE MODEL OF ORIGINAL

The Drop Chair was originally produced alongside the Swan and Egg chairs for the interior of Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, designed by Danish designerand architect, Arne Jacobsen. Jacobsen took his inspiration from the human forms and contours of the body. In this way, he humanized technologyand the Drop Chair for the hotel represents a clever combinationof art and industry. The shell is made pf ABS plastic with nylon as reinforcement inside. The base consists of four legs in powder coated steel tubes in colors matching the shell, with leg ferrules of black synthetic material.

FLOOR LAMP Year: Spring 2018 Professor: Dr. Igor Peraza

60

The lamp is created using a hybrid of paper origami and cardboard intersections. the sharp folds of the paper enhance the shade and shade created within the origami and how the cardboard peices intersect each other allow for light to infiltrate out. The source of light being the tiny LED light bulbs creates some areas of strong light intensity and some less intense, thus producing an illusion of movement of light.
