1. INTRODUCTION
The object of the specific presentation is to provide general information about the Karpenissi Athletic Training Centre, regarding its position, accessibility, facilities, natural characteristics, and potential development. 2. OVERVIEW OF THE ATHLETIC TRAINING CENTRE
2.1. POSITION
The Athletic Centre is positioned 5 km east of the city centre of Karpenissi, 900m above sea level, inside one of the most beautiful - in terms of natural beautyareas of Greece. The area is also called “the Switzerland of Greece”, situated among mountains and dense fir-forests, intersected by a verdant torrent and a country road.
Indicated by UNESCO to be the cleanest region of Europe, with zero environmental pollution, and having one of the 5 cleanest ecosystems on earth, the specific area is considered to have the ideal conditions for the natural strenthening and training of the athletes, as they are determined by the needs of each of the sports. Those natural characteristics are making the the area one of the most popular attractions for athletic training on high-altitude.
The Karpenissi Athletic Centre’s modern facilities are making it one of the most complete training centres of Greece and a very competitive one comparing with equivalent European ones. The construction of the facilities were brought to completion on 2002 for the needs of the Olympic Games of Athens 2004.

2.2. ACCESSIBILITY
The Athletic Training Centre is positioned on the road connecting the city of Karpenissi with the city of Lamia. It is at a distance of 295km from Athens, 370km from Thessaloniki and 75 km from Lamia.

2.3. EXISTING FACILITIES
The total area of the Athletic Training Centre of Karpenissi equals to 211000 square metres. Its facilities make it one of the most complete athletic centres of Europe, having the capacity to host a great variety of sport events. The national teams of soccer and basketball, track and field champions and olympic medalists, are only a few of the users of the perfectly organized outdoor and building facilities of the Athletic Centre. The facilities are listed and explained in detail below.
