What to Know When Purchasing LED Bulbs and Fixtures
Provided by Teche Electric Supply
LED bulbs are available in different kelvin temperatures, the Kelvin temperature can change the look of a room. For the areas in your home that are meant for relaxing and you don’t need the spot light on you (living and bed rooms)you may want a warm or soft white light 2700k to 3000k. When you need to be able to see the difference between your black and blue shoes, sorting laundry, (closets, utility room, work shop and garage) you may want to use cool to bright white 3500k to 4100k.
To determine what wattage you need use the LED conversion from incandescent to LED wattage on the bulb packaging. If your fixture recommends a 60 watt incandescent bulb then you would need a 6-8 watt LED bulb.
If you are converting from incandescent to LED and you have a dimmer switch, you will need to convert your current dimmer to a LED dimmer. Incandescent dimmers are meant to dim the higher wattage incandescent bulbs and are not capable to dim the lower wattage LED bulbs.
